[Q] USB Microphone? - Xoom General

Hello...I am excited to get the xoom. One thing that would make my day, and life as a voice dude, would be the ability to plug a USB mic into it and record using an audio program. I understand some cool audio apps are out or about to be out. Has any one tried a blue mic or really any type of USB microphone? Can it even be done?
Thanks

A USB microphone would be very cool, indeed.
I've seen lots of microphones that plug into an iPod's headphone jack, like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/VC-00300-VeriCorder-Mini-Mic/dp/B001Q964QI/
I checked with Vericorder, though, and they said this:
"No, the Motorola Droid headphone jack pinout is different from the Apple style, with the mic and ground connections reversed on the 4 pin TRSS configuration."
I wonder if if the Xoom even has a mic connection on its headphone port?

Yes, the headphone jack does appear to have microphone abilities. I just plugged in a standard wired headset, hit voice search and stuffed the xoom under a pile of heavy blankets. It picked up a fairly complex sentence perfectly.
Not the most scientific test, but a test none the less...
While its not USB, but I suppose you could look at using a regular hard-wired, high end mic with an adapter.

Headphone adapter disables internal mic.

When I plug my heaphones in, it seems that the internal microphone on my Tilt gets disabled. That is with my headphones plugged in, no one can hear me on the phone.
Is it possible to talk on the phone without having to uplug the headphones?
Nope.... plugging in headphones assumes you have headphones with a built in hands free mic, like what are supplied with the phone - its possible to get an inline mic so that you can use your own phones though.
Thanks
Thanks, my phone did not come with such headphones. So I am using a headphone adapter and a pair of earbuds. Has anyone seen any headphone adapters with a mic built in?
I want to be able to plug it to my car's stereo's aux in, hear people through the speakers and talk at the same time Short of splicing the cable and soldering on a mic, can such adapters be purchased anywhere? Anyone seen one?
Wow Just saw one!
Just saw one on the top banner Exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunatley they are out of stock. Would also be cool if it had an extension for the charger....

Record from head phone jack?

My wife is fifteen weeks pregnant and we just found the heart beat with a at home fetal doppler.
I have the male to male connector cable, is there any program that will allow me to record from the head set jack like a microphone?
Want to send the babies heart beat to family
Thanks!

Nope, it's a headphone jack for headphones... output only..

Except for the fact that it is a dual way allowing for in line microphones meaning input as well. However, finding a cable that has the correct connecting pins may be very difficult.
Edit - if it were me, I would simply play the heartbeat over a speaker (your stereo?) and use the microphone of the phone to record that. Or, record it into your computer using the mic-in jack.
Not sure if it is the same jack type, but the iPhone's standard earbuds have a mic built into them also, you just plug it in and have sound/mic in the buds?
Just a thought. I haven't tried it because I am at work and my iphone buds are at home.

scheme elettric microphone and speakers

Hello!
I enabled the aux input of my car radio and wire a cable jacks.
the problem is that when I get a call from my htc hd2, the sound is heard from the speakers but does not work the microphone for conversation because the hd2 course off the microphone of the device active because the headset with microphone.
Is there any way to wire the cable jack (4 pins) and attach a microphone to the cable itself? Some might suggest a scheme electricity?
thanks!
:sorry my bad english
In theory it should work as long as you can get the components and wire the cable correctly. whether or not your mouth would be too far from the microphone might be an issue,
Unfortunately, if I connect the phone jack, hd2 excludes the microphon base to activate the headset that is built, then the conversation can not happen, but I feel he did not hear anything
should understand how the microphone is connected to the headphone series

Depending on where your phone is, you could use a regular 3.5 mm male to male extension going from your radio to the phone. I have mine set up like that and the mic on the phone itself is powerful enough to pick up your voice. I ran a 10ft cable(3.5 mm male to male) from the radio, under the instrument panel, up the side of the door in the molding of the windshield to the sunvisor where my phone is clipped to the visor by the clip on the case. It works fine but you have to adjust the volume between your phone and the radio to find the best combination to avoid major feedback so the caller doesn't hear his own voice echoing in the background. I can't post links yet but if you go to youtube and search "iphone handsfree iphone in car setup" you will see how I did my iphone but I now have the same setup with the Hd2.

keep built-in mic active when 3.5 mm jack is plugged

Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if it's possible to have built-in mic active when a cable is plugged into the 3.5 mmjack. For example...I connect the hd2 to the car stereo and if I get a call i need to disconnect the cable because the built-in mic is inactive.

Mine works when I plug mine into my car with a standard 3.5mm stereo cable.
Does the cable you're using have 1 or 2 black stripes on the plug?
i agree, this feature was one of the most pleasant surprises for me with the HD2.
on my kaiser, i used a special HTC headset that had an inline microphone (which i snapped on to my shirt collar) and this headset allowed me to plug in a standard 3.5mm stereo jack, which my car audio was plugged in to. this was the best solution at the time for the kaiser that allowed me to keep all cables connected and be able to use the car's speakers and have a working microphone all at once.
but with the HD2...WOW!!! i plugged in my car stereo's 3.5mm stereo jack straight into the HD2 and put on some music and started driving. a call came in while driving and i just pressed answer because i was still used to my kaiser set up (i had owned the HD2 for less than 24 hours at this point so wasn't quite used to it yet).
i started hearing the other party and i started speaking. and the other party could hear me. and THEN it hit me...i was like, holy hell!!!...what am i speaking in to? how come the other party can hear me?
great features, great phone!

I think it has two stripes since it's a stereo jack. I'm not sure but i think initialy I was able to speak in the car with the leo plugged into the stereo. May be some app I've installed later changed something?!?
the built in mic will stay active unless u have a cable with 4 connections (3 rings on the plug), a regular stereo cable has 2 rings. I've been using this type of setup for a couple of years with my previous phone, a.k.a. iphone. The mic is pretty sensitive and can pick up your voice rather well. I have my hd2 clipped to my sunvisor for easy access and routed the wiring inside the windshield molding down under the dashboard to the stereo and it works pretty good.

Using External Mic with Exhibit 4G

I am trying to adapt an external dynamic microphone for use with my Exhibit 4G (there is no forum section for this phone and I believe it is similar to the Epic 4G). I bought a 3.5mm PRRS plug with three discrete shielded stripped end cables (White=Left Audio, Yellow=Right Audio, Red=Mic), a PRS inline jack, and a female XLR mic connector.
Using the PRRS pinout of P=Left Audio, R1=Right Audio, R2=Ground, and S=Mic, I soldered the shields of White and Yellow to the sleeve of the PRS jack, White to the pin and Yellow to the ring. My stereo headphones work perfectly with this arrangement.
I then soldered the shield of Red to ground of the XLR and Red to audio. I then successfully tested all connections from the PRRS plug to the PRS jack and the XLR connector with an ohmmeter.
When everything is connected, the headphones still work the same but the phone doesn't "hear" the external mic or disable the internal mic like it does with the headset that came with the phone.
What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?
Thanks!
I don't see you getting much help here, but maybe I'm wrong.
