Power off trick - Droid Incredible General

I was pressing random buttons on my phone when it suddenly turned off. I was pressing Power + Vol Down + Trackpad at the time when it turned off. I booted up the phone and reproduced the same results again.
Did I just discover this or does everyone know?

That's the easy way to turn off the phone.

Hey, I'm new to the site and relatively new to Android. I had a Nexus One for a while, got rid of it due to not having a decent way to sync music to the phone and got an i*hone. Had that for about a year and just got rid of it since I was tired of living in the walled garden and got an HTC Incredible.
Also, my phone just froze up on me and I used this trick to shut it down and then restart it. Way easier than having to pull the battery and then restart. Thanks for the tip!!

Welcome to the site! I'm sure that you'll love the Incredible much more than the iPhony
I didn't know that it worked during a freeze also. I guess I'll do that instead of a battery pull the next time I press the "freeze for 5 minutes" button in Dev Tools on accident.

It boots the phone into a mode where no apps besides system apps boot up, so u vs unistall any apps that prevent the phone from booting like set CPU if you overclock to high

Fastboot question after root

Can we enable fastboot after the phone is rooted? I know it had to be off during rooting but I haven't seen anything about being able to turn it back on after. The phone does come on really fast with it on and really do miss it..hope it can be turned back on after root

I don't see why not. All it is is a kind of hibernate state(forgive the windows speek).
That's what I was thinking but thought there would be something more to it since it had to be off to root it

Think it just had to be off for root since the process involved full restarts/shutdowns & with it enabled the phone would've gone into "hibernate" vs full shutdown.
Should be fine to re-enable now that you have perm root.

You didn't have to turn it off if you choose restart. Fastboot was for when you hit power off, it didn't actually power off. Restarting goes through an actual restart. Rooted 3 phones now, 2 of them I left fast boot on.

Screen Off While Charging

For starters I have CM6 RC2 running on my Aria.
Second, I have searched the forum and found things that either confuse me or are not quite what I'm looking for. Hopefully you guys can help.
What I'm wanting to know is this; when I power down my phone and then plug it in to charge, the screen comes on with the boot menu. (Little Androids on skateboards, all that.)
Is there a way to have it simply be off, screen and all, while charging? Thanks in advance.

Leave the phone on and the screen will timeout be blank during charging. If you power off your phone and then plug it in to charge, you will get screen of your recovery app. The original charging icon was a part of the standard HTC recovery app. Since you replaced it with another recovery app when you rooted your machine, that is what shows when you are charging your phone.
I don't have Tasker yet, but does anyone know if you can set up a Task that will shut down the phone when it reaches 100% charge?
I belive Tasker can do that for you. Here is a related post in Tasker's support forum. http://groups.google.com/group/task...2aec9051?lnk=gst&q=shut+down#a18968812aec9051
Tasker is worth every penny and more. Lurk in that forum for a few days.

Help please!

I dropped me Epic today and cant get it to power on. I took it to the sprint repair shop and some how they can power it up and I'm not sure how they do it? I need to power it on so I can fix the problem. I am running Anonymous rom i3 so it has a funny problem when powered down and plugged in....kinda freezes on charging screen. I also cant boot into recovery and cant get into download mode. The sprint store was able to power it on twice but wont help anymore because I voided warranty by changing software lol. I need to figure out if there is an alternate way to power on besides the power button? Keyboard maybe? Any input would be helpful!
Turn off, the power button + 1 key on the keyboard.

Why don't u ask the sprint repair dude how he got it to turn on?

Well I didn't see my neighbor but my buddies wife is also a tech at the same store. I told her what's going on I'm waiting for an answer. Hopefully I'll have an answer for you tonight.
Also u should look into the jig or what ever is called it just plugs in to ur USB port and it jumps it into download mode. Ill look for a video for u. Give me a second.

She thinks it's your battery. Especially since it won't charge when your phone is off. She said if you go to the store with just the battery and tell it's only lasting an hour or two they should give you a new one without much trouble. That's the only way to make sure.

If all else fails I will try. The not charging thing I believe is a common bug on Anonymous i3 rom?
Just recently I have had the exact same problem. I am getting ready to bring it to Sprint tomorrow. I have reloaded factory EC05 on it to make sure it wasn't a software problem and it still happens. Here is how I am able to currently power up my phone.
With the power completely down and the battery out, plug your phone in (either AC or USB, doesn't matter).
Press the power button once. The empty battery icon will appear for a few seconds then disappear.
Press the power button again. While the empty battery icon is shown, plug in the battery. It should recognize the battery, at which point you should be able to hold in the power button for a second to get it to turn on.
That is how I can get mine to work. By any chance, do you use an extended battery? This problem started for me about 2-3 weeks after I started using an extended battery.

Automatic power on after battery pull or normal power off.

im very confused...
im currently running ARHD 5.2 (was on leedroid before but didnt notice it then) and whenever i power off my phone or pull the battery after a few seconds it will power on again without me pressing any buttons.
the phone itself works fine but its just a bit annoying as i cant turn the phone off.
any ideas?
Thanks
Nathan

I had tha issue with Honeysense. I believe it is not ROM based issue.
It was so hard to get into recovery mode and it was only thing I needed because my phone was in endless loop during the boot. I can tell that I needed an third arm to put battery in, pres power button and vol down and put battery cover in place
I am having this exact same problem, have been having it for awhile but it wasn't too bad as I don't turn my phone off... This would be awesome to fix
Using ARHD 5.2.1
Not Rom issue as it happens on every Rom for me

It's not there; but if you want you can download the Snapdragon Battery Guru app and that may offer some additional savings.
Why would you consider this a 'huge feature'? Do you often run your phone almost completely out of battery? I think the feature sounds stupid too be honest... Plug the dang thing in...

In defense of some others here, I think it's a very useful feature. Unlike yourself (assuming) my work and overall lifestyle don't allow me to plug my phone in whenever I need to. I quite often run my battery down to nothing. Being able to use the phone for just texts and calls (and manual email), and save some battery life, is extremely beneficial for me with needing to stay in contact with work at all times.
tl;dr stupid to you, highly beneficial for some people.

Not just missing in the USA, also not on my UK EE phone. Very annoying, had so many problems with EE, still don't even have mobile data access, can only use with wifi.
I'm at a place 30km far from home no charger available and I still need juice to keep My phone alive dang I have it!!! Remember this is useful as if you don't even use your phone it will disable all apps and can save you more juice [emoji6]
If you aren't running 1.54.xxx.x you won't have it. Simple as.
