Hi,
Does anyone else have this problem where the active sync keeps showing as running even though the phone is not connected? even if I close it, it keeps on coming back...
I tried a programe call activesync killer but it didn't work.
Thanks any help.
set up a fake server in AS to sync with, then set sync frequency to manual.
This is a well documented "feature" of WM.

I had the same problem but it dissapeared after a hard reset that I did yesterday. Today it came back, and it seems like the problem occurs after adding a Exchange Server in ActiveSync. Sorry, but I have no clue of how to fix this.
i have this happen to me too. My X1a is only 2 days old and i havent synced it at all to my comp yet. but i always see active sync turning on... more annoying than anything. Does anyone know if this drains the battery?

Edit, Sorry it does delay it but eventually getss called again from othe microsoft apps, so it will enevitably pop up again: Darn it...
I know I'm not alone with this and I think it's getting ignored because most people don't have the problem.
Even after the MR, I'm still having 100% Awake problems.
Yesterday I did the following.
1. Flashed back to stock rom.
2. Allowed the phone to perform the OTA MR update
3. Updated PRL and Profile.
4. Rooted phone using asroot2 process.
5. Installed Optimized/Zipaligned Apps found in this forum.
I then installed a random selection of my preferred apps. I did not log into any of the social networks on the phone itself. Facebook, Twidroid, Peep, Seemic are all on the phone but either not logged into or not set to update automatically. GPS is on, bt and wifi are not.
The only widgets I'm running is the normal clock/weather, big calendar, music player, and gps/wifi/bt toggles. Everything else is shortcuts and such. I'm using Gmail app for my mail, the stock messaging app for sms, and the stock browser. I'm syncing with Google for mail, contacts, and calendar. I have no other email accounts set up.
This was the 3rd time going through this process. The phone lasts roughly 24 hours with great low awake times, then suddenly starts climbing. A reboot will of course reset it so it shows 100% awake.
Things I've tried.
Installed Spare Parts and sorted by all sorts of things. Android System seems to be the biggest offender. Real vague.
Installed the Terminal app and tried to run top. Nothing seems to be taking up an abnormal amount of CPU but I don't know how accurate this thing is.
Obviously I've tried this 3 times and attempted to keep all widgets and other things that constantly update away from use but it doesn't stop.
I have shied away from task killers seeing how that's the normal reaction in this forum, that they're bad and I'm not sure they are a good idea.
My buddy has the exact same phone, way more widgets and things running, and his has been running for days without ever going over 25% Awake. We've went through all of our setting and installed apps and widgets etc, and cannot find a good reason for this.
I'm hoping to get some recognition for the problem. Maybe if others have the problem, we can try to see if we can come up with a fix.
Suggestions
Check the apps you have installed, some of the ones i liked say they 'keep the phone from sleeping' during installing. Just because you aren't running an app doesn't mean it's not running in the background. I would suggest you uninstall ALL external apps and test your phone for 24 hours after a full charge and see if that is the problem.
Another problem i had was i never gave my battery the proper charge when i bought the phone. I got much better performance from my batter by running it down to where it would not turn on then completely charged it without interruption. I repeated this 3 times in a row and my battery lasts much longer now.
I would also suggest to flash your phone with the fresh ROM .6b After doing this my phone was amazingly fast and excellent sleep times.
Currently Pulled Status:
After 48:15:00 Up Time Only Awake Time 13:01:00 (27%)
I'm aware of that app thing but I will say that I haven't installed any apps to speak of today. The only thing I installed today was a widget for turning the ringer off but I uninstalled that. Of course, that *could* be the problem.
Other than that, I haven't installed any apps today so you'd think that anything that would cause 100% Awake would have happened yesterday as well. Granted, that's an assumption and something best proven so tonight I will flash to stock + the OTA MR and leave it alone. We'll see if the phone with zero apps installed in basically stock form flips to 100% awake tomorrow or not.
I tried Fresh yesterday and it made no difference. Granted, I put it on top of a phone that already was at 100% Awake but still. I also don't care for what's installed/removed on the rom either. I would love to have my stock rom + rooted + removed apps + optimized apps and call it a day. I can hope right?
I was having the same problem as you...
I did a factory data reset after I applied the MR.
Then rooted
Then installed fresh .6
my phone has been sleeping like a baby ever since (over 1 week now).
Hope that helps...

I tried Fresh .6b but it didn't help. Granted, I applied it after the 100% awake problem hit. I don't really care for Fresh though.. but I might try it after I do a few experiments.
Bah.. I gave up on the experiment idea and went ahead and did this.
Flashed to stock
OTA MR upgrade
Rooted
Flashed Fresh .06 ROM
Flashed Optimized/Zipaligned apps
Only apps installed are Seesmic, SMS Backup & Restore, and Call Logs Backup & Restore.
I will leave it at that for now. It will get a full charge tonight and hopefully I'll see more than a 24 hour run of good idle time.
I can say that sms problem is also persists.
And i found out that i have SMS problem only when there is 0 in incoming number. If sender have number without ZERO - it works just fine.
Nice fix from sprint -) I think they do not test it at all

Could be a total coincidence but I was texting someone with a zero in their number when my awake time started climbing. But I had also been texting all morning with another person with a zero in their number and it waited until around 3:30 to start acting up.

make sure you look for the following
settings>applications>deveolopment
(uncheck stay awake)
if this is checked, your phone WILL NOT SLEEP when plugged in.
to avoid any silliness make you check the awake time when it is NOT plugged in.
...Just sayin

I understood your message, but i STILL have SMS problem on 2 HERO after MR update. Thats a pitty
Well folks, I thought I had the problem licked but last night it came back. On Monday morning, I did the following:
1) RUU back to stock
2) applied voice mail and MR update
3) rooted phone and applied optimized apk & clear screen mod
It was working so well until last night when I was playing with the wireless and wired tether apps. After I *uninstalled* those apps, the phone would not go back to sleep. I'm getting sick of this but will not be resetting my phone. Hopefully an update will come out soon to resolve this.
Yesterday I decided I didn't care for the Fresh .6 rom and went back to my experiment idea.
I flashed the stock RUU back onto it, let it do the OTA update for the firmware, and then installed only Handcent and Seesmic to keep from using the stock SMS/twitter clients just in case.
I signed into Google for my Gmail, contacts, and calendar and left all the update settings alone. I turned on GPS satellites, and I signed into the Facebook integration on the phone so I could get the photos/bdays/status updates in People.
That's all I did. No rooting, no additions, nothing. I removed all widgets except for the clock/weather and the big calendar. Everything else was deleted, I only have the 6 shortcuts on the first home screen.
I went to bed with between 1:15-1:30 awake time. I woke to 4:45 wake time and climbing. Sometime around 5am it stopped being idle and is now climbing steadily toward 100% awake time. Obviously I wasn't using the phone, I received no phone calls or text messages, and it was charging.
This is frustrating.

Yes I ignored it because it did not pertain to the issue at hand. If you had read my entire post, you would see that it had, on all previous times, went from idle to 100% awake while off the charger. Last night was the first time it ever went awake in the middle of the night and it only happened 3 hours before I woke up meaning that it had been on the charger for 5 hours previous without being awake.
Also, that option isn't even checked by default. The only way it would be checked is if you were too stupid to read the text next to it. Needless to say, mine is not checked.
So no, never once in the time of having his phone has that setting been turned on. This issue is not related to your post in the least.

well just for ****s and grins.... retest with it not being plugged in. just to rule out even the remote possibility of that being the issue.
EDIT: also if you are really hard set on figureing out what is causeing it do a stock RUU, then update it.... then don't touch it... at all, no market apps, no enableing anything.... then test
if good, then add a variable.... use scientific method of figureing out what is wrong. Don't just test with a random set of variables and hoping someone might guess at what might be the issue.
from the information you gave.... my money is on the charger causeing it. I may be just totally wrong, but my track record is being right most of the time with this type of troubleshooting.... but if you want a second opinoin... by all means... and a tip of the hat to you sir

I'd say you're wrong because I'm not experiencing the issue at all.
Since the OP's phone and my own are similarly modded, I'm thinking that it has something to do with his own personal info (contacts, calendar, etc.)... because I have NO issues.
I use HTC Peep to update/view Twitter.
I use Handcent for SMS/MMS.
In contrast to the OP's phone, my phone has a ton of stuff installed (25 free apps from the Market, last I checked)... yet my awake times are consistently <30%.

Except, again.. of the 4 times I've reloaded this and had the 100% awake time, only once has it happened on the charger. So I find that theory a bit weak. I suppose it could be, but still.. seems a bit odd that, for instance, it would wait until 3:30 in the afternoon (7 + hours after coming off the charger) to act up.
I'm currently stock + 2 apps which should eliminate the supposed leak with the SMS that some people still claim is happening. But I will flash the stock RUU and then the OTA MR and leave it alone. I'm still going to use the functions of the phone though. I see no reason why syncing with Google or facebook or using peep should matter since those are on the phone from the get-go and intended to be used. I'm sure everyone on here who has no problems at all has a lot more things turned on than I do right now.
For instance, X99Percent and I have compared settings. He has WAY more widgets running, WAY more programs installed, and is signed into all the social networks. Yet he can use his phone for days with normal idle time. I might make it 24 hours, or in the case of yesterday, about 14 hours, before going to 100% awake.
I'm convinced it has a lot more to do with something wrong with the phone itself or a software bug than anything else. And if you notice, I'm not alone in this problem, there's others complaining about it on here and on PPCGeeks.
I discussed this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713392&page=7
If you are an Exchange Push user on Froyo experiencing significant battery drain and frequent if not constant 3G connection I found that you must turn Push Off and then back On.
This resolved the rapid battery drain and constant 3G connection issue I experienced. Just for your information.
I think this was a result of the Update rather than Fresh Install, it accompanied many settings I had to re-do.
Exchange - I take it back. Resetting exchange did not fix my issue. On Eclair, the push email would not keep the network always connected. On Froyo exchange push is running the CPU at 20% constantly and keeping 3G connection going.
Not sure how to stop that, but it only occurs when I turn on Push. And this definitely was not here before. Thanks to this my battery goes from Full to gone in a few hours. I have since turned off push email.

This happened periodically on Eclair for me as well - just "clear data" for the email app and set the exchange server up again. Seems to fix it when it creeps up from time to time.
On a side note battery life w/push on Froyo has been better so far. With 2 push accounts I am now losing < 1% / hr when sitting idle (overnight). On Eclair it was just shy of 2% so this was a nice improvement.
I have now done a full factory restore and reinput the Exchange Push account information.
It is still at 17% CPU usage and keeps the 3G connection on constantly.
This simply did not happen before, and is draining my battery rapidly.
Update:
As if to prove my point again, once I set the email from Push to Pull every 15 minutes the CPU load dropped down to 0% and the 3G connection stopped cycling. Not sure why this is happening. Is anyone else noticing that Push keeps 3G constantly active and phone runs really hot?
SO FRUSTRATED!
Please someone else tell me they are experiencing this with Froyo Exchange.
I am not able to stop exchange from cycling 3G and Email runs a huge CPU percentage and the phone heats up continually until the battery dies.
Is anyone else on exchange seeing this problem????
Hello All -
I know I continue to post on this but I am really hoping some of you that are smarter than me can help me out.
On 2.1 - Exchange would get can email, my 3G arrows would cycle, the email would show up. That is all.
On 2.2 - Exchange does not get email, 3G arrows ALWAYS cycle and the cpu is running constantly. The phone last night was over 100 degrees.
To experiment, I installed Touchdown. Exchange works perfectly. No 3G or CPU issues. It does not constantly sync.
A few items I noticed:
1) SyncManager for Email is the culprit and causing the problems
2) My corporate email is ActiveSync or MS Exchange 2007
3) I have read elsewhere that this is Exchange constantly trying to check the server and it gets stuck in a loop.
Please friends, this is going to cause me to have to give up my phone. I dont want that. I want my native Exchange to work. Any ideas at all?
I'm having another issue (and it's being tracked on android official support board)..
Whenever I use PUSH for exchange, it works fine. Yeah it keeps connection alive, but doesn't really use the battery that much.
However, if I switch from PUSH to some interval (5, 10 minutes, etc), sync manager gets stuck. It'll eat up 50% CPU CONSTANTLY until battery is dead. Switching back to PUSH fixes it immediately.
Google assigned an engineer to this problem, but nothing yet.

Hmm.. strange, I can't find it now.. Last time I checked it, first 2.2 was released.
Maybe it's fixed and closed now? I've enabled 10-minute sync in my exchange, I'll see if it still gets stuck in FRF82.
I wonder if any smart network Dev out there can tell us why SyncManager is getting stuck trying to work with our Exchange Servers?
Ok Friends Help me out with this.

After much hassle I think my issue now has to do with my IT having self-signed certificates rather than purchasing them. This means they would have to update it to work with whatever Froyo did in exchange security. I think this is why it works initially then goes into a loop of OpenSSL attempts.
This is my only guessing from half-truths and limited understanding of the series of tubes.
I would really appreciate anyone out that understands this stuff chiming in on what is going on?
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9455
got a google code issue going in case anyone else runs up against this openssl infinite loop.
I am having both issues. When I use push, the phone stays warm and the battery drains in a few hours. If I switch from push to poll, no improvement - but if I reboot with poll setting, it works fine.
My company uses Active Sync with Exchange 2003 and I doubt we would use self-signed certs.
By the way I am running 2.2 on a G1 with Cyanogen ROM.
I have a funny issue with my exchange. When i get a new mail, i get a notification on my N1. But even after i have read that email on my PC.The notification doesnt go away .... and when i check my phone after some time i think i have recieved a new email but its only notification of old one .... is there a workaround for that guys ?
Cheers
Nice thread hijack
I have an Exchange 2010 server setup with a non-trusted cert from CAcert.org and don't have that issue using Push on Froyo.
I assume you enabled the option "Accept all SSL certificates" when configuring the account?
I did in fact "accept all" and I have been working with many google developers as of last week to figure out what is going on.
It is not actually IT, it seems it is an OS issue as more and more people are seeing this issue come up.
P.S. to the notification comment above, that is normal. dont hijack my thread.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on here about reception issues. My 3G goes in and out , from 4 bars to 1 and even zero bars at times while the phone is staying in the exact spot. does anyone thing this is a hardware or software issue?
The lock screen totally lags. it's almost ridiculous I have about 4 frames for the entire animation of it sliding left to right
I can't figure out a way to make the SMS limit per conversation over 1000. The phone keeps deleting my texts =( Is there a way around this I'm missing ...?
Love the phone it just seems like there's a few REALLY silly stupid problems with it .
Edit:
My voice search just will not search my contacts... I noticed it will only find contacts which are synced with Google, however even though i have my options to sync my contacts. i still only have 5/173 of my contacts synced.
For some silly reason there is ONE person ( that i know of) who's facebook profile was not downloaded into my phonebook . I only care for the picture ID .. but it's odd every one else (whom i know of) was downloaded other than him, spoke to him there's nothing special about his profile.
Edit 2:
Has anyone noticed a clicking sound which sometimes happens whenever the camera is opened? It sounds as if something near the camera is physically clicking
any other droid 2 owners have these problems?
You're totally right about the 3G going in and out. I'm in my basement and when I'm on a call, it actually drops. Last night I called my g/f back from my house phone, and the bars jumped from 1 back to 4. Sometimes I get that 1X instead of 3G.
The phone totally has potential, I just hope a root comes out soon and we have a lot of room to play with. I came off the Motorola Cliq to the Droid 2 and honestly, even with my Cliq rooted, it seems way superior to the quality I'm getting on the Droid 2.
Let alone that the service provider is Verizon, the service should be the best... The only good thing I can say about the phone is that I'm able to watch flash videos off the web, and the new games coming out are actually playable without lag. Other than that, Tethering without root is like having PDAnet on my phone. I use EasyTether right now and it's not much faster that PDAnet. I also hope when root drops, j_r0dd from modmymobile gets his hands on it, I missed my white on black theme and I prefer the Droid X bootanimation on my start up.
have you tried the manual update to 2.2.20? I experienced the signal bug having my reception drop to 1x while it was 3g a minute before and the phone wasn't moved, but after i did the manual update to 2.2.20 by going to system -> software update i haven't seen it since.
With the unlock screen, I at first noticed lag but after reading motorolas recommendations on how a smartphone is like a computer and it should be shut off / rebooted occasionally, i did shut down a couple times and the phone is very smooth now and the unlock animation is perfect.
try shutting down the phone and unplugging the battery for a little and then put the battery back in and let it boot up. I believe the phone uses some kind of cache system that loads up frequently used items on startup, maybe that is why its smooth now.

The update did nothing for me =/... I've rebooted countless times, still nothing , the next thing that really aggravates is the text message limit... smart phones are supposed to have practically unlimited sms/phone book storage. I still can't find a way around it .
Biggest problems are the reception issues, considering it's most probably a hardware issue and no update will fix it=(

I don't know what to say, it was laggy when i first got the phone and after a few shutdowns and restarts over a couple days and a shutdown battery pull for 10 minutes and a reboot and its been perfect ever since. seems like you don't know what your doing.
Bull****. The slider to answer calls is smooth. The lockscreen is not and rebooting it does not fix it. Post a video so I can believe you. I even reset the phone and it didn't help.

I've had my Droid 2 since the release day, my first Verizon phone. I have to agree with the lock screen lag, but I have noticed something interesting with the reception issues. I'm new to verizon so I don't know if this happens with other verizon android phones but when I first wake the phone up from sleep I have one to no bars then 5-10 seconds later I usually have 4-5 bars. It seems as if the cdma radio/software goes into a type of power save mode durring sleep to save on battery power. If this is the case I can imagine the issue could be something to do the the power save mode hanging when the system wakes up, also power save mode could be a little too sensitive.
Now my inferences are completely unfounded in any knowledge other than my observations, and some basic knowledge of porting android to my old Att Tilt. If there is someone out there who knows more please correct me as I would love to stand corrected.

Yup same here, the slider to answer calls is fine. I've come to a conclusion its just a buggy OS moto prepared quickly. Let's hope for a real update soon.

My 3G as of now seems to have fixed itself this morning . Has this happened for anyone else ?
after doing the 2.20 update my signal problems were all fixed and the phone works increible!!!
yes there is a little clicking sound when you go to the camera. If you look into the camera lends as you open the camera app you can see it sorta move a tiny bit so there might be some protectivething over the camera lens somewhere inside there but that is just a guess.

your asking for a lot right now. I'm not 100% sure what yours looks like but my animation at first was choppy. I noticed it the first couple times I used my phone. However after a few shutdowns and battery pulls the lock screen seems to be pretty smooth and it follows my finger with no lag.
I have also removed all the Motorola widgets from my home screens, not sure if that had something to do with it.
The 2.2.0 update did nothing whatsoever to fix my signal issues. Still getting wide variations in coverage and signal (1bar 1x RTT to 1 bar 3g to 3-4 bars 3g all from the same spot in multiple areas)
Have you tried using another launcher like launcher pro, it fixed the lag with my unlock screen, I think the blur uses up too much memory.

The update did nothing to fix my signal issues. I don't have a problem with lag except in the gallery.
I called customer server to complain about the reception problems. The rep I talked to said Verizon is aware of the reception problems, but they aren't sure if it's the phone or the network.
He said there are other people in my area complaining of reception problems that don't have the Droid 2. He also mentioned something about areas that were mostly Alltel that are having problems. He did something on his end that is suppose to block some kind of signal having to do with Alltel and had me run the PRL update again, he said it could take up to 2 days for me to notice a difference if that was the problem.
I was also told to log each dropped call by dialing ### send.
I noticed something odd, yesterday I did a factory reset, after rooting. When I started to set everthing up I turned off the battery manager in settings, and since then it appears if all my reception issues have disappeared.

Is that something you can configure after a factory reset without root?
Yeah, if you go to settings, battery manager, battery mode, and set it to performance. Let me know if you notice anything different.

Ah, I've always been running mine in performance mode. Did a factory reset last night and still nothing. This is really getting frustrating.
To all in this thread,
I forgive those who are ignorant and just don't know. However, if you are purposely ignorant then please stop posting.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on here about reception issues. My 3G goes in and out , from 4 bars to 1 and even zero bars at times while the phone is staying in the exact spot. does anyone thing this is a hardware or software issue?

3G only shows and lights up if data transfer is occurring or if you have no 1X signal. The signal bars jump because the radio is not always transferring data (over 3G) and therefore you see it grab the signal (0-1 bars) then get full signal (3-4 bars depending on coverage of course) and once finished, bye bye.
This saves you battery. It is truly a SMARTphone. It also keeps bandwidth available to those also using a Motorola D2 and wondering the same thing.

The lock screen totally lags. it's almost ridiculous I have about 4 frames for the entire animation of it sliding left to right

I noticed this as well. Could be too much going on since you just turned your screen back on and apps are trying to update for you. Kind of like how you quickly pull your pants back up as your g/f is walking in the door and you act like nothing happened, but you were totally going to town.

I can't figure out a way to make the SMS limit per conversation over 1000. The phone keeps deleting my texts =( Is there a way around this I'm missing ...?

If there isn't a setting in the Text Messaging application then no. Possible solutions are to look for an app or keep hanging around here.

Love the phone it just seems like there's a few REALLY silly stupid problems with it .

It's only stupid until you get used to it. Then it's annoying. Then it's silly. Then you'll find a way to get around the issues or an update will fix them.

Try another Voice app or sync all your contacts with Google.

For some silly reason there is ONE person ( that i know of) who's facebook profile was not downloaded into my phonebook . I only care for the picture ID .. but it's odd every one else (whom i know of) was downloaded other than him, spoke to him there's nothing special about his profile.

Facebook syncing has issues - sometimes really weird issues. It's a problem across all phone OS's.

the phone has a mechanical shutter. hence the amazing pictures. it IS physically clicking. it's pretty sweet.
I had a problem with the stock EMail app.
It stuck at 100% CPU load, the phones back was hot and the battery lost ~70% in half an hour.
I can't understand how this could happen, the app is set to check both my EMail accounts every hour and there has been nothing out of the ordinary (no big attachements or so on).
Anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? Should I use a 3rd party app for EMails?
the same problem

It happened to me three days ago Using OS Monitor, I only showed 34% usage, but this time, Android System Monitor acknowledged 100% usage, but was unable to account for where it was being used. where did you see it stucks at 100 % , it sometimes shows wrong , ;
you can also check ur email mobile or 3rd party app or reboot ur device you can also fallow these steps , maybe it helps you.
go into "Settings...Voice input and output", and, if the Eyes Free TTS engine available, the default TTS is not set and check the box to have the native TTS as the default, and checked the box for "Always use my settings".
I saw it in the Samsung Task Manager. I think it showed correct because also the phone's back became very hot.
But, fortunately, this never happened again until now. The battery life is terrible after all, but the EMail app seems to be fine
I have a similar problem if I'm not using the standard Samsung keyboard.
It's a bit of a pain in the arse as I have to remember to swap keyboards if I decide I need to reply to something. If I forget the phone locks up and the battery drains very quickly.
I've seen other posts with same problem. Wouldn't be so awkward if the standard keyboard wasn't so useless.
I binned the stock samsung email app, and use the 2.3.4 vanilla email app
I'm having major problems with the Mail app too - consistently high CPU usage, short battery life, back of phone warm to touch and Mail showing as the top battery hog (& CPU hog in Watchdog). Not impressed!
High CPU usage and email app gets stuck
I have the same issue. When I am in the email app it just gets stuck. This is crazy. I switched out from a HTC EVO 4g to Samsung Galaxy so I could have more ROM. I hope I don't regret it. Tell me if you find a solution.
I had the same issue on my SGS II and now my Note. I finally figured out it started after I installed Viber. I uninstalled Viber and the issue went away.
Does anyone else with this issue have Viber installed?
I had this problem only once yesterday - picked up my phone to answer a call and it was very hot. I can't think it was a co-incidence that earlier that day I had enabled Contacts sync with Exchange. Whatever the issue was it has gone away by itself. The only other factor worth mentioning is I was in a supermarket with Free WiFi - but it only works after you click through their homepage. Previously I seen this cause background apps using data to constantly stall due to the HTTP redirect they encounter.
