Hi,
Does anyone else have this problem where the active sync keeps showing as running even though the phone is not connected? even if I close it, it keeps on coming back...
I tried a programe call activesync killer but it didn't work.
Thanks any help.
set up a fake server in AS to sync with, then set sync frequency to manual.
This is a well documented "feature" of WM.

I had the same problem but it dissapeared after a hard reset that I did yesterday. Today it came back, and it seems like the problem occurs after adding a Exchange Server in ActiveSync. Sorry, but I have no clue of how to fix this.
i have this happen to me too. My X1a is only 2 days old and i havent synced it at all to my comp yet. but i always see active sync turning on... more annoying than anything. Does anyone know if this drains the battery?

I now have the push email up and running but I can't seem to get my device to wakeup when I have new mail. I have to keep turning it on to see if I got new mail or not. This can be very annoying. Is there any way around this?
I have looked in notifications and under "new email message" I have it selected to display on screen and vibrate. What else do I need to change?
Hi DanITman,
I've got the same problem here.
With my HP6340 this works perfectly so when I bought the wizard I expected the same, but not.
Seems to me that active sync can’t wake up the wizard even if you change the registry to wake up WLAN after standby.
So if there is someone else who could help as that would be much appreciated.

I have no problem getting mail while in sleep mode. I just want it to notify me when I do receive mail by waking up and vibrating. Or stay in sleep mode and just vibrate. I would be happy with that. I just think that the push email is useless unless I get notified when an email comes in so I can respond promtly. I'm glad to see others are having the same problem and hopefully a fix will come out soon.
So if I understand you correctly your device can receive e-mail when it's in standby?
Do you use GPRS or WLAN for push e-mail?
I think you might have checked notification under sounds in the settings screen?

I use GPRS/EDGE for all of my email. ActiveSync works fine in sleep mode. However, when mail does arrive I don't know it until I turn my device back on manually, making the whole push email thing useless because i still have to check to see if I have received new mail or not. Under notifications I have it set to vibrate and show on screen when new email arrives (which it does) but only if its not in sleep mode or once I turn the device on manually it will begin to vibrate to tell me new mail has arrived.
Sorry can't help you with this one mate.
But you’re right, why no notification when your device is in standby.
Seems to me that there is no difference i notification between receiving an SMS or E-mail when you use push e-mail.
Maybe a bug in the test rom?
We will se when there is an official one.
Same issue here. Was never an issue using the old psuedo-push sms system with the old ROM.
Anybody know what the effect of never going into full standby mode would be on the battery? In other words, the screen backlight off but never in standby?

I have never been able to get this to work even when I had ActiveSync set to sync every 5 minutes with the old ROM. It wasn't a problem if you used the old SMS push system because the sms would wake the device up. I was hopeing it was my fault and I was missing a setting but it seems its happening to everyone. Its a pain in the ass.
I did some testing and found out that I can get it to play a sound in standby mode when I have a new email but it won't vibrate. Since my device is only syncing when told too by the server I am going to see if I can get it to vibrate at the end of an activesync and that could possible work.
Setting ActiveSync to vibrate after its finished doesn't work either. Even when the device is on
I was hoping that the "Wake Up to Full Power Mode" tweak in Tweaks2k2 might solve this one, but alas no go. Bummer.

Thanks for trying that. I think MS needs to get this figured out if they want these devices to be BlackBerry killers. Push email is useless if I don't know that I have email the minute it comes in.
this may not help, but it's worth a try......
i put my Wizard (with the new Rom) into a car cradle which is always powered..........therefore the unit is always on.........if the current program on screen is Inbox, then new email coming in does not sound the notification sound.......
if Inbox is running in the background or not at all, then i get the notification sound.......
so........ i tried at home both methods and even when switched off, Inbox needs to be running in the background and not the current program for the sound to notify in an off/standby state
but........ i do get sound notification in standby as long as it is running in the background (ie, when you switch it on, Today screen or Phone or any other app is the 1st thing that greets you)
i regularly get the sound going off through the evening whilst in standby mode....
I know it doesn't solve you problem, but Goodlink got it right.
I will get sound and vib while the unit is in stand-by.
you would thing MS would be able to do the same...
I assume its a glitch that will be fixed soon. Does anyone know where in the registry notifications are kept? I would like to do some searching to see what I can find.
Same problem...
I have the very same problem. Had it before the AKU2 ROM and still have it now. I have taken to using MortSaver and never putting the device in standby...battery doesn't seem affected. Still, rather have this working like it's supposed to out of the box...hope someone can find a solution!

Thanks. I am going to try this -- do you know if the program, which I assume is running in the background all the time, has any impact on device performance?
I have the Cingular 8125 and I love it, but I also have the same problem. I have Goodlink installed and if my device is sleeping it will not vibrate when emails come in. It will make the sound but no vibration. I am currently using Mortsaver for now to keep the device running with the screen off, so that I can feel the vibration and know that I have received an email.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Can anyone verify if this has been fixed in the new Kjam ROM. I don't want to upgrade until this gets fixed. The qtek test ROM is working really well.

I still can't believe that MS has screwed this seemingly fundamental feature up.
In any event, the workaround I am trying at the moment involves the new version of AEPButtons plus. Using this program, I set a double click PIE button action to turn the screen off. In settings, I have unchecked the "Turn Device off after" button so the device never goes to sleep. When I holster or put down my K-jam, I double click the PIE button to turn off the screen and save battery life/prevent accidental key presses. Since the device never truly goes to sleep, the email notifications still come and I get the vibrate telling me an email has arrived. At night or when I don't want notifications, I press the power button. It's not a perfect solution, but it seems to work OK and I don't seem to be missing as many emails coming in.
Hi all
I have a (see subject LOL) since a day or 2.
I was playing a game (bejeweled) on my machine when suddenly the game starting to be slow (it happens sometime if I don't reset my device for a few days and then everything is fine after a soft reset, so I decided to soft reset my device.
After that, it restarted and all then stayed on the windows logo (the one just before windows come up).
I waited and waited and waited, nothing. So I decided to hard reset my baby (it's no problem to me since I had not installed any special progs).
Set up OK, install of carrier options OK, set up of M$ exchange OK but THEN, as I was trying to sync my calendar with my exchange server, it stays hanging at "Synchronizing" (ONLY at the calendar section) and can stay like this forever, and when I soft reset, it hangs again on the windows logo. (for the record, if I ONLY sync my contacts, everything is fine).
I tried everything, by that I mean different RADIO, different versions of WM6 (all of them actually. NOTHING helps.
I KNOW for a fact that it goes wrong at the sync of my calender cause I took the problem from zero (that is hard reset, ISP settings and then sync) so I'm sure of where the problem occurs.
I also check the exchange server to make sure my calendar wasn't "too" full, that's not the case.
The only thing I have NOT tried yet is if it goes OK on WM5.
I NEVER had that problem before, just since 2 or 3 days.
Anyone any Idea??
Thnx
This may have absolutely nothing to do with your problem but - a long time ago I read some posts where folks had problems syncing when items in the calendar had notes attached at the pc end - for some reason these notes became corrupted and huge in size when the attempt was made to sync with device. As I say probably not your problem if you do not attach notes to calendar entries.
mike
thnx mikechannon, but indeed I do not have any notes in my calendar, never had AND I do not sync with my PC, only with exchange.Thnx for the tip anyway.
BTW, I just put another ROM on it now (RUU_HER_CINGULAR_2.06.502.3_1.34.00.10_SPL1.04.exe) witch is a WM5 ROM and I have exactly the same problem. After a sync with the exchange server I'm back on the Windows Mobile Splash screen and it's stays there, so it's NOT a WM version related problem.

I have the same problem, which started today. My XDA Exec seemed to be frozen, so I soft reset, now it's stuck on the Windows Mobile splash screen.
I've got data I need to get from the device, so don't want to hard reset (sounds like that wouldn't help anyway).
Can't think what has caused it.
- I upgraded to Radio 1.15 the other day, but it has been working fine.
- I changed my connection to GSM only, 2 days ago to try and stop the Disconnect problems on 3G/GSM, but that has been working OK.
I've tried removing the battery & SIM but no joy.
I'm running Helmi 1.1, and have been for months.
Can anyone help?
Hi all
In the meand time I had my baby sent back to HTC (BTW, they did NOT look for the SuoerCID what so ever, My guarenty is still intact ;-)), they looked at it and sent it back to me. I don't know what they've done but the problem is still here.
I tried (just to be shure) to sync with my desktop and THAT works fine so I would think it's a server related thing.
However, I deleted a lot of things on the server but the problem remain so now I don't sync with the server.
Today I will install the new Black V2.0 and try it again.
I'll let u guys know.

I had problems getting my tytn to sync with my SBS running exchange 2003 SP2. It was due to SP2 adding HTTP compression which screwed syncing to some mobile devices. Sometimes i would get error 0x8503001A and sometimes it would just lock up! Check out this link for a fix, well, it fixed my problems anyway
http://groups.google.com.au/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync/msg/b629960d45049f88?hl=en&
May also be worth having a look at http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php for more error code info. I know you dont get an arror code, but something may shed some light for you!
@JamesAub
Thnx m8 for ur reply but I'm using the free mail2web exchange server witch use do be fine until (Iguess) too many people started to use it LOL. Then it stopped working.
I just install Black 2.0 and tried right away, the prob is still here so I'm 99,99% sure that the prob is on the server side.
I'll try to make a new account to see what happens.

I have a support message from mail2web, that there server experienced some delay problems. I changed my mail2web exchange to my work exchange server and all problems dissapeared.
Today I checked the mail2web box again and it seems to be working for now.
Good luck!
Well just to say how gooooooood the Black V2.0 is, I'm able now to reset my device when the exchange server hangs and it does NOT stay on the windows splash anymore. The problem is however still not resolved. I sync slowly the one after the other and I'm able to sync my contacts fully and see them. When it gets to my calender, it is syncked BUT when I want to open my calendar I just get the wheel forever. At least I konw now I can test without having to hard reset.
BLACK EDITION V2.0 ROCKS! THE BEST. you can pass the word ;-)
Hello,
I just migrated from a 8125 to the 8525. One of the first things I did was upgrade to the latest (official) ATTWM5 Rom.
Something that the 8525 is doing that the 8125 did not do is staying asleep. From time to time when I put the phone (or it goes) into standby mode the phone will wakeup, and the screen comes back on.
Sometimes it does it when I get new a new message, otherwise it wakes back up for no apparent reason.
Is this a known bug or an isolated issue?
Thanks

It may be the Active Sync auto connecting (or trying to) problem. If you do not use direct push e-mail then you could try the fake server procedure here:

Thanks for the reply Mike.
But the thing is, Active Sync always ran on my Wizard (8125) when the phone was in standby/sleep mode. Even upon getting a message on the Wizard the phone would beep, and or vibrate but it would not wake up (come on).
I had a total of 2 8125's and both behaved the same way.
This being my first 8525 I can't compare this behavior to another.
I've also basically have the 8525 setup the same as my 8125 with much of the same programs installed.
BigTex.
mine is doing the same too. I format the whole phone and didn't install any applications just in case they wanna sync or something and yet still the screen doesn't wanna go to sleep. Keep on coming up every 15 mins or so which is very annoying and wasting my battery. I will try to sync thing and hope it fixes my problem.
My TYTN also does it... but it is so rare (less than once a month) I
haven't searched for a solution.
I have read that it might be caused by the ir port: the default
functionality is to accept incoming connections (in Settings > Connections
> Beam > accept all incoming beams). Light falling on the ir window
might trigger the device into thinking there is ir activity. If
this is the case, disabling this function might be a solution...
Jörg
my ir is turned off. so it can't be the problem. Plus I found out that if i don't accept all incoming beams, even if somebody else wanna send me something through bluetooth, my phone doesn't accept anything. So I have to turn on that feature to accept from bluetooth. I think it's weird.

Took a look at the settings on the IR port and it is off (not checked).

Try setting Active Sync to manual otherwise it will run by itself (unseen) in the background.
The person who posted above with a very regular switch on every 15 mins sounds more like a push mail setting.

But what I am saying is I shouldn't have to do that. On my 8125 Active Sync was set to sync "As items arrive" during peak times. Just like on the 8525.
I set the AS to only sync manually at night (11p-7a) and best I can tell it doesn't wake up. So I concur it is something to do with AS but why is the 8525 behaving differently then the 8125? I know it's a different phone, but both are running the same OS (WM5).
ok. i tried that activesync to manual and then my phone is still turning on the screen by itself. It's very annoying. Now I don't have any applications at all. Active sync is set to manual already. no 3G is connected. what else can I do? should I just reflash the firmware again?

One of the option while setting email is to check email at every 5 minutes. if this is check (if you have email) then uncheck and see if that solved the problem.

The only email account I have on the phone is my Active Sync Exchange account that's been discussed earlier in the thread.
One thing I observed today. I still have my AS set to sync as items arrive and while I'm still having the issue, it doesn't seem to "wake up" every time.
Strange.
My 8525 does this too. I just set the profiles so that when the phone is off charger, the screen shuts off in 1 minute. For the nightime I set the screen to shut off in 30 seconds.
In the car (the car profile) it is set for 2 minutes.
That way this turning on uses as little battery as possible. i live in Providence, RI and think this might have something to do with switching from 3G to Edge - based on which signal is stronger.
OH! Yeah! You have to get phonealarm from PocketMax to do the profiles thing
see before i upgraded the firmware, i dont have that problem. so now i just took a chance and upgraded to WM6. no more screen problem.

Hey guys,
Despite the fact that I have installed this latest rom (1.66), I'm still having the sms problem. They dont get stuck or anything, they just never arrive, and this happens alot, which is really frustrating.
Since no one is still complaining about it, I'm wondering if the problem only hasn't been fixed in the dutch release of this rom.
I did notice, theres also a minor sms update, which says its for 1.66 and lower. But this update has been released before the rom was released.
I'm not sure if this will fix my problem, and since it can't be uninstalled, I'd like to know your experiences with this.
Thanks

Not saying that it isn't the device, but have you tried another phone to see if they arrive on that?
I had similar issues with my old Nokia E90, and it turned out to be a network issue (they had to remove a corrupt message from the server)

Yes, I have tried my old Nokia N95 also, which went well. Messages just sometimes do, and sometimes dont arrive. Resetting doesn't change anything, neither does it make not-yet-sent messages, be sent.
Steef have you solved your issue already?I had this issue on rom 1.48 dutch as well, after x applying the htc fix it happens rarely now.very annoying that htc does not seem to be able to fix this issue.
since my sent sms would be sent if I soft reset my device if the problem appears, I guess your problem may be of different cause. I have read that a hard reset fixes the problem for some people.
I would like to know when and how you fix your issue...
Hey, has anyone else had this HTC Sense:remote process eating up the whole entire phone?
I restarted my phone for the first time after 3 weeks and then I get this always displaying. I had to kill the HTC dashboard something process to get rid of it, but it still caused some knock on affects to the cell standby process.
I then looked at the log files and it was saying a lot of null pointer exception with cloud syncing errors. Are HTC doing something to HTCSense.com possibly?
The only way I solve this is to disable HTC sync completely (which is fine as the dashboard doesn't even work) and then it is fine. Just wanted to know if anyone else having this issue.
Also what I have notice now, my cell standby is eating more of my battery up then it use to after I restarted my phone. I use to switch of data wifi before I sleep and it only drain 3% of my battery, now I am getting 10% which I know isn't right.. Anyway else getting this problem?
Deleting htcsense.com account gives your phone a horseload of energy.. atleast it did for me..
Don't ask me why we have to do this, I just made it on recommendations..

It's because it brings the processor to 100% and it also consumes ALOT of power ..
Yea I agree... on the 1.32 version HTC sync was alright. Whenever it sync-ed it was short and finished within 10 seconds. On the 1.72 version the sync icon is always on, or last a good 5 minutes before it stops.
I have disable it completely for now... hoepfully in the gingerbread update they would have finally fix this as it is gett really annoying... but yea the cell standby has been good as well and now it has return to 3-4% drainage overnight.

figured that too. what I meant was that I have no idea what exactly causes the major CPU-load..
Yea same, when I looked in the logs, it kept coming up with error in connection to Sync Server... and it looked like it was just looping. But I don't know... something very very wrong in HTC Sync LOL
