hello all. so i have a rooted mytouch 4g that im loving but having issues with. i permarooted it with Visionary and everything works great but when i try to boot my phone in recovery, it goes to a black screen with an exclamation point and i have to pull the battery. I also tried it through Rom Manager to do a backup and it gets the same screen. any ideas would be of great help. thanks in advance!
Seems to be stock recovery, with rom manager flash clock work recovery
Some times rom manager doesn't like to flash recovery on our phone. Theres an option after you enable advanced features to delete recovery before flaashing. Use that. May help. If not, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905
^^ That should help.
thanks im gonna try that and see where it gets me! i did do my research before doing this and re read everything but i guess im still not quite too learned yet ha.
tried after enabling advanced mode and it didnt help so when i get home and have a computer available ill try the adb way and see if that helps. seems pointless to have a rooted phone if i cant flash a rom onto it haha. hopefully i can fix this!

Sounds like CW didn't install right. Many users have found that flashing CW twice or even 3 times seems to clear the issue up.
Try that.
so i got s-off and then tried installing CW 2 or 3 times like you said and hey it worked great! did and nandroid backup and all so im back in business! thanks so so so much for the help

Glad I was able to help. Seems CW needs to be flashed more than once in order to 'take' and install correctly on some devices. Anyway, glad you're up and runnin.
so i did the dumbest thing a couple days ago..I rooted my mytouch 4g & rooted a couple of others as well,so im not new at it lol...so i have been running iced glacier 1.0.1 ever since i bought the phone 6 months ago,rom was great no issues i loved it,then i wanted to try cm7 since it a an RC and was gonna be stable for daily use, well i did the proper steps by doing a nandroid backup from clockwork recovery 2.x.x(cnt remember the number) then rebooted the phone everything went well, then went to clockwork again flashed 3.0.0.5 went to reboot into recovery, wiped data, wiped cache, wiped delvik cache everything went smooth then installed cm7 rc1 then installed GAPPS,rebooted & everything was working smooth for about 10 min then every app was force closing, tried going to clockwork and it just kept force closing,i couldnt do nothing on the phone then it started rebooting on its own,i had no other choice but to pull the battery out, started the phone and and it just kept bootlooping on the cm7 boot so again pulled the battery out and went to clockwork recovery wiped everything again(data, cache, delvik cache) so i went to go back to lovely iced glacier everything installed and rebooted the phone was on it for like 5 mins and phone just kept force closing again so pulled battery out again and now clockwork wont mount /system or /data.... i tried to wiped data but just freezes and then says error, thats all it keeps saying when i try anythng error, error, error im so mad that it wont even accept the pd15 file....sorry for long explanation but i couldnt find direct info lol....im using the mytouch 4g,perm rooted with s=off using gfree method, coming frm iced glacier, went to cm7 got stuck now im completly stuck all together..does anyone knw a way to fix this issue?????
Try to use the pd15xxxwhatever .img in the hboot
since you used gfree your s will still be off.

I too am having this issue and it really is pissing me off, I was s-off on the eng bootloader .85 and used the gfree method. I was on gorillas rom cwm 2....and decided to use the thunderbolt rom using cwm 3.06. I may have been on it for 5 minutes then my phone just turned off and went into boot loops. When i went into cwm I got an error on mounting. I then downloaded the PD15IMG zip and when I hit volume up to update it fails on the first one showing bootloader fail, so im stuck not being able to do anything.

Main issue with me was that my sd card got erased somehow and that part7backup file deleted and I have no way in gettin it back cause my computer got wiped while gettin repaired,so I just called tmobile and they snt me a replacement,i just got tired of tryin to fix it,i should of stayed on iced glacier lol...
Tried using that pd15 in hboot reconizes the file but then says update fail, cant do nothing after that..my sd card erased somehow and computer got wiped while gettin repaired..
Well you said you backed up with 2.x.x then flashed with 3.0.0.5? Why didn't you just flash cwm 3.0.0.6? And on the off chance that its the actual recovery you could push a new recovery via adb

I wanted to install cwr 3.0.0.6 but I was running cm7 and the phone just kept force closing wouldnt allow me to do anythin, then when I go into recovery it shows all errors so I couldnt dwnload, install,or flash...thanks for everyones input & advise,i appreciate it but I already got my replacement, now I knw not to do the same mistake twice lol...
I'm currently using the wildfire. I rooted it and installed rom manager.
I did backup my rom (CWRv3.2.0) and installed the wildpuzzle rom (Newest one).
But i think forgot to wipe off the data. After installing the rom, it booted fine but it says that my phone memory was low.
I waited for a very long time but it does not respond. Hence, i thought something was wrong and tried to go to cwr and did a factory reset.
But now it gives me a black screen after the htc logo.
And after 10 to20 minutes and it still does not respond. I went back and did a restore(before the wildpuzzle rom I've installed)and it came out that my phone cannot boot and stucked in a loop. (after 2 turns it went back to cwr)
I'm scared that i might bricked my phone.
Help please! Much appreciated!
When you do a Factory Reset in Clockworkmod, you need to flash a ROM again. Also, if you read the thread completely, WildPuzzle 2.3.2 does NOT work. It was released untested by danne (as he stated), and, various tests by users show it didnt boot.
EDIT: And if you are talking about Android 2.2 Sense ROM's, you will need to flash it using Clockworkmod 2.x. They are not supported on 3.x
So do i have to flash a new rom like CyanogenMod ? Sorry, I'm a complete noob at these. Edit: Its the Wildpuzzle 2.2 froyo v0.8 rom.

Yeah flash the CyanogenMod 7 ROM. But before you install this ROM please make sure to Wipe the data, Clear cache partition and also to clear dalvik cache and then proceed to install the CM7 ROM
Yes! Thanks a lot! Flashed Cm7 Nightly Builds 2.3.4. Running perfectly
EDIT: Wifi does not connect lol, stucked on locating ip address.
good morning everyone!!
here is todays challenge...
i was able to get OMFGB 1.3 nightly on my phones yesterday. YAY!!!
but when i started to restore my apps and app data. Some of the apps restored just fine...others...not so much. I got an error while restoring about parcing (i didnt spell that correctly). so i let TiBa do its thing...when it was done i started getting FCs with my Music Beta App.
FCs were coming from everywhere...calendar...facebook...
so i went into recovery (via power button) got into recovery, wipe data (only), and then reflashed OMFGB 1.3 nightly. and i rebooted...and got stuck at the GALAXY S and CYANOGENmod boot screen...
so what i did was plug it into my computer so i can do a adb reboot recovery...and well...now command says it can find my device...actually it says there are no devices...
can someone please help me out??
thanks in advance!!
(ps i'll be on for the next hour...)
ok here is my plan of attack...
i'm going to flash back to stock using this unbricking method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391).
then i'll flash CWM4 recovery and try again...
what do u guys/gals think?
Hi,
I am having an issue with my phone where the phone keeps on boot looping. I have read the brick guide and I tried the solutions in there but I am still stuck with a boot loop.I managed to install clockwork and cm 7.2 on the phone but it still boot loops and it has the good emmc chip as well. I also flashed the pd15img in hboot it doesn't return any errors and still loops. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mine boot loops with just about every ICS rom except (so far) the new chameleon one. It does the thing where if I get an incoming text when I try to check it it restarts the phone, and after a few days it boot loops permanently. What I mean by that is I'll try to use the phone and it's in the rom's splash screen just looping and looping and doesn't stop until I turn off the phone.. So when that happens I have to hold the volume down, turn the phone on, and wait until the boot menu comes up.. Then go into recovery and wipe data, cache, dalvik, and flash a new rom and gapps. It really sucks because I love PACman rom's and they boot loop the most.
Oh also my phone kept not booting once because my back button got stuck down.. So check your buttons too? Hopefully something there helps. I'm still trying to find out why PACman rom's hate me! Good luck!
Everybody please read the op in the developer's roms they all tell you to wipe cache/dalvik this what I do when I install any rom I throws out all the bugs and gets the rom moving normally

That's not it.. I wipe my data, cache, and dalvik cache 3x before flashing a new ROM. I think the problem may have something to do with the kernel the devs are using because both Pacman and evervolv roms do it the worst, and I noticed Pacman is using evervolv's kernel. chameleons ROM doesn't restart or boot loop on me at all..
I had same problem. I installed 4EXT recovery and formatted everything ext 4 +full wipe. Then installed a different kernel other than stock. That solved all issues.

Had success with factory data reset
Hello. I had the boot loop problem and tried everything (even the wierd twisting thing which worked for others, not me). I ended up fixing the problem by using the factory data reset solution. This is done by holding the power and volume up button until the screen lights up with options. Then select the factory data reset option.
THIS WILL WIPE OUT EVERYTHING except whats on your SD card. So you'll have to redownload all your favortie apps. But i actually liked that new phone feeling after the reset. Hope this helps someone.
