hello all. so i have a rooted mytouch 4g that im loving but having issues with. i permarooted it with Visionary and everything works great but when i try to boot my phone in recovery, it goes to a black screen with an exclamation point and i have to pull the battery. I also tried it through Rom Manager to do a backup and it gets the same screen. any ideas would be of great help. thanks in advance!
Seems to be stock recovery, with rom manager flash clock work recovery
Some times rom manager doesn't like to flash recovery on our phone. Theres an option after you enable advanced features to delete recovery before flaashing. Use that. May help. If not, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905
^^ That should help.
thanks im gonna try that and see where it gets me! i did do my research before doing this and re read everything but i guess im still not quite too learned yet ha.
tried after enabling advanced mode and it didnt help so when i get home and have a computer available ill try the adb way and see if that helps. seems pointless to have a rooted phone if i cant flash a rom onto it haha. hopefully i can fix this!

Sounds like CW didn't install right. Many users have found that flashing CW twice or even 3 times seems to clear the issue up.
Try that.
so i got s-off and then tried installing CW 2 or 3 times like you said and hey it worked great! did and nandroid backup and all so im back in business! thanks so so so much for the help

Glad I was able to help. Seems CW needs to be flashed more than once in order to 'take' and install correctly on some devices. Anyway, glad you're up and runnin.

I have doen this too, Clockworkmod replaces Amon's, just reflash amons and it will come back.
Thanks,
I got it working again, but just wondering how would I used this recovery manager if I wanted to ?
I dont think it was properly flashing its own recovery image.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Using Clockwork turns my phone into an Iphone 4?
Jking, does it bring anything to the plate that anons does not? and if so does anyone know if there is a way to manually flash the recovery image from them onto the phone, because if I use it, it just make my phone sit at the skate board screen?

It does have some pretty nice features, but it could cause a brick in the future.
I used it about a month before i had any problems with it.
I wasn't able to flash or restore any nands i had made, it would just spit out error after error. I even tried flashing the ROOT rom and that didn't help either. then when i tried rebooting it just never turned on again and I had to get the phone replaced. On other phones it works great, but on the eris its no good.
I would suggest stay with RA unless you're willing to risk your phone and money.
Cool,
I was just interested in the update rom feature for the Eris, but oh well if its that dangerous >.<
Thanks!
Quick question T2noob, I just noticed your post on the blog for clockwork recovery where you ever able to get past this error.
"The recovery for for the eris 1.8.1.1 isn't working, I tried to reboot into recovery but it never boots, it just stays at the android skateboard screen. If you need anything, testing, info on the phone, ect you can email me at XXXXXXXX"
Yea You need to flash RA then Clockwork thats how he had me fix it, but like i said don't use Clockwork recovery just take a look at this thread im not the only one
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687272
I find it really odd that so many people have trouble with clockwork. Been using it to flash ROMs for months with no issues. Hopefully don't have any in the future!
i've used clockwork mod for 3 weeks now without any problems. also have rom manager installed, same author. i absolutely love both apps. i came from a v3 leak and couldn't get amon recovery to load on my phone, this worked like a charm first time. also i read in the forums that amons recovery is no longer supported by the author unlike clockwork mod which the author updates frequently.

that thread you linked too only has you and the op posting in it. in fact i read that thread before i installed it and thought to myself that 2 people aren't enough to convince me it causes any more problems than amon's. personally i only used clockwork because that is what i could get loaded on my phone and have loved it since. also its been updated like 4 times since May when that link was started. so if it bricks my phone so what it just a phone and everythings backed up in triplicate anyways. be a nice excuse to get me a new toy.
I also believe the op's problem is that he used rom manager to flash amons recovery. now its my understanding that doing that removes clockwork mod recovery and replaces it with amon's. so he actually had a problem with amon's recovery and not clockwork mod recovery. i think the problems occur when people use rom manager to falsh a different recovery instead of clockwork mod which it is made to work with. just my ramblings here.

take it as a grain of salt, if you come into the irc there are devs there that had this happen to them and can tell you what exactly happens. And I used ClockWork for about a month before i got the brick so...do as you like with this information.
well there are a lot of people running clockwork mod without problems. i went to the cyanogen forums looking for who was running cm6, like the op, and there are just as many people using clockwork as amon's. and there were a few reports of nandroid recovery failures using amon's in cm6 as the reason why they switched to clockwork.

I heard that clock work is a great recovery on other devices, but on the eris it's not good the irc devs also worked with the guy who makes the recovery email him if you like he will tell you he had gotten complaints about on the eris. And there isn't an official cm6 for the eris so the people you talked to were running it for other devices. Like I said a grain of salt.

Well I would like to test it out but the recovery image it drops over anons does not seem to work anyone have any moderately detailed instructions on to how to get it to work?
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
I didn't want this to be my first post and I've been holding out for a couple of days now, but here goes.
When the CM6.0 zip installation finishes, I tell clockwork to Reboot Now.
When it reboots, I get the white screen with green HTC letters. I do not ever get to the screen with the black writing on it. It then proceeds to the cyanogen mod boot screen with the swirling circle, but that's all it ever does. It will stay in the "boot loop" forever if I let it. The phone never progresses past that point.
I am able to do a nandroid recovery back to before the CM6 ROM and everything is OK, but its not FROYO nor is it rooted. I followed the instructions from here //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730002
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Are you connected to the PC when you reboot?
No, I've tried twice and both times I was unplugged.
Let me run down some quick troubleshooting answers
I used CyanogenMod-6.0.0-liberty-signed.zip
I have the Android USB Drivers
I installed HTC Sync, but uninstalled to leave the drivers.
HBOOT is good
Clockwork installed like clockwork.
I did not install the Android SDK, I didn't think this mattered since I had the drivers from the Sync install.
Your best bet is to hop in the IRC and ask for help. http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#liberatedAria
I'll have to get on when I get off of work. Thanks for the linkage and taking a look at my issue!
OK, so the guys over on the IRC helped me out....very quickly I might add. I didn't want to start a new thread for this very reason...super simple fix!
My issue was that I did not perform a wipe through clockwork before installing cm6.zip.
According to Yoshiofthewire and jznomoney, the cyanogen boot loader will loop if the old HTC files are still on there. Performing the wipe through clockwork and reflashing did the trick!
Thanks to you all! now to set the rest of the phone up. Amazing resource!

No problem. I was gonna suggest that you didn't wipe, but I wasn't sure without being able to talk to you. Figured it was faster to send you to IRC. Glad everything is working. Enjoy.
Everytime i tell it too boot into recovery it just shows the little android guy with a triangle and exclamation and then reboots. I've installed bootstrap and run clockwork recovery. What am i doing wrong? last time i did this and was able to manually go into recovery but when i flashed a rom i just got stuck at motorola bootscreen and had to use sbf. Please enlighten me someone.
Ok.. i tried skipping clockwork and just booted into recovery through bootstrap.. Works. I try and flash a rom and the orange bar comes up and says it's installing. The bar never fully goes across but it says the installation is complete. When i try and reboot to try the rom i get stuck at the boot screen. Any ideas what is going on?

are you using 2.2? what ROM? you need to run the bootstrap once for it to work, and it will say clockworkmod installed is version 2.5.0.7 in ROMManager thats the bootstrapped version of clockwork mod.
then download the ROM, and don't touch anything after you hit the ok button on the screen that asks to backup current ROM and wipe user data. just let it work.
The system info says 2.1update1. I did as you described. I just used bootstrap to boot to recovery and tried flashing a rom and it does the same thing. Just sits at the motorola bootscreen. I'm gunna try my nandroid recovery to go back to the rooted stock rom.. I really don't know what to do from here though because neither way is working for me.
Also, my clockworkMod Recovery is v2.5.0.6 not .7. Maybe this is the issue? when i used rom recovery it said i had the most recent version. I'm Nandroiding right now which seems to be working.

ok. Thanks. Maybe this is the problem? I'm trying to flash a 2.2 rom and currently have 2.1 on my phone? So i've already done sbf back to 2.1 once last night. I'm assuming this procedure is pretty much the same. I'm guessing i will have to reroot my phone. Can i use the same method as 2.1 or is there another method for the droid x with 2.2? Thanks for the help!

well.. Now i have 2.2 on my phone but no root. adb can't find my phone.. WTF
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Was finally able to get it all working. Now I have a working 2.2 custom Rom and can proceed with flashing this thing to cricket. Kinda sucks because I'm doing all this for a friend and using this phone I've kinda come to the conclusion that its a better made phone than my evo. Colors look better on the lcd, camera takes better pictures and the aluminum case is certainly nice too. Only drawback I see is the dev. Much more development for the evo, but then again it is an older phone.

I like my DX and it does have a few advantages over the EVO (e.g. battery life and build quality). However, I would gladly trade it for an EVO, since that device has 4G access, a front camera, cyanogenmod support, more accessible bootloader, etc.
Search function is down but I did go through a few pages of threads looking for what was going on and no luck but I apologize if this has been solved somewhere else.
First off I would rate my rooting know-how as beginner to intermediate. I've jailbroken/unlocked multiple iPhones awhile back and have rooted/flashed roms on a cliq, mts, my3g, and this mt4g before.
I recently returned my current mt4g back to stock rom and unrooted. I do not think I turned s back on but I should have double checked before.
I currently have root and flashed clockwork and am trying to flash CM7 (I had ran it before on this phone as well). I have an issue right now where I cannot get into clockwork recovery as it will just sit at the mytouch logo forever and if I try and volume up and power into recovery all I get is 3 vibrations and a flashing amber light.
I can boot into the stock (but rooted) rom.
Any ideas? I feel like my recovery is broken or something but this goes beyond what I know. Any help would be great and any information you need I'll be happy to provide.
myTouch 4G, rooted, s (probably) off, stock rom, clockwork says i'm on 3.0.2.4
After reading that, I'm not fully convinced you actually have root and S-OFF. If you're sure you do, download ROM Manager from the Market and use that to install a fresh copy of CWM recovery. Also make sure the "fast boot" option is turned off somewhere under Settings. At that point, there should be nothing preventing you from getting into recovery if you have perm root.
I've got ROM Manager and it has SU permissions and I have the latest recovery flashed but I am still stuck on mytouch logo or the 3 vibrations/amber light when I try to get to recovery. If I reboot there is still no problem getting SU in terminal emulator or ROM manager or anything.
Fast boot is off as well. Thanks for the help so far.
Any ideas?
I don't often boot into recovery manually since most custom ROMs have an enhanced reboot menu with a recovery option, but if memory serves, I believe the key press combination is actually Power + Volume Down, not up like you mentioned in your OP. Give that a try.
Man I am really crazy. Here I am a tmo rep and also a novice modder and I'm hitting power + volume up.
Worked like a charm.. Now just to figure out why clockwork is sitting at the mytouch screen when trying to install CM7.
Thanks for the fresh set of eyes!

After flashing CM7, the phone hangs at the myTouch screen when attempting the first boot?
From ROM Manager if I try to flash CM7 from there it goes to the mytouch screen and hangs before anything else happens.

What if you select the "boot into recovery" option in ROM Manager? Does the phone reboot into CWM recovery? (you should see the main CWM menu in orange text)

So you don't have a good installation of CWM. Open ROM Manager again and re-flash a fresh recovery. I think there's an option to wipe your existing recovery beforehand, so if you see that, select it. You need to get a working recovery image before you can do much else.
Deleted current recovery and I confirm my model again and it takes a total of 5 seconds. Trying to reboot into recovery again after and I still hang at MT4G.
I hate it when you know something you need to do but you've been working on it so long you can't come up with new ideas.
Thanks again for the help.
Sorry multipost since it didn't register on my computer the first time for some reason
Yeah sorry man, I've never heard of a situation where CWM stubbornly refuses to install. If you have the engineering bootloader, you could manually flash it that way, but that's my only other idea.
Alright well thanks for all the help man, I'll dig around and pick up tomorrow.
I ended up looking for the recovery myself on the SD card and deleted it and then it flashed no problem. Thanks again for the help

Sure, glad you figured it out.
Hi guys,
Okay title might be a little exaggerated haha but...
Recently broke my hand and one handed computing really sucks. So i grabbed my transformer from the closet that I hadn't used in months. It was acting pretty weird, very slow, and just unpleasant to use. I had previously had it rooted and had a kernal and rom on it, but wanted to revert to stock and try ICS. I really forgot how to do everything so I tried to use this guide:
http://theunlockr.com/2011/11/28/how-to-unroot-and-remove-cwm-recovery-on-asus-transformer/
Downloaded both files. and tried to get into clockwork but kept getting a big ! mark. Gooogled around and found that I could download recovery instller from the market. That got me to be able to get into recovery... I did notive that I couldn't get out of recovery and had to do cold boots to get past it. Still tried it though. When I finally got to uploading those files I still couldn't get ouit of recovery and cold booting just freezes.
Can someone PLEASE help me. I really want to be able to use the comptuter without suffering.
I just want to get it working and hopefully get to ICS.
Would not might using a custom rom if there is a stable ICS release u guys recommend.
If someone can step by step me i would be extremely grateful.
Thanks alot.

How did yo install cwm recovery? You mentioned RecoveryInstaller, I hope you didn't use Acer Recovery Installer.
The RecoveryInstaller for the TF is not available on the market. you have a link to the one you use?
or did yo use ROM Manager to install CWM, what version of CWM do you have, ect.
yea i used rom manager sorry
and i think it was 5.5.0.4 cwm
the exact thing happened to me, do you know if your tf is compatible with nvflash?
This *might* help

The problem is I am stuck in the CWM.
