I couldn't help myself and bought a new T8185 a few weeks ago and i'm in love with this phone. I have it on ATT in new york. Now i hate myself for not having any patience and now the newer model is out. A few questions now about the euro t8185 HD2 in america now that the t9193 is out.
1. Is the hardware the same as the original t8185?
2. Is the t8185 now able to be flashed with a new ROM enabling it to use 850mhz 3g/hspa in the u.s. i.e. 3g on att?
p.s. sorry if its a noob question, im new to the world of HTC and win mo, but i did not see any other articles regarding this situation. thanks for your help.
1) Yes, the hardware* is the same inside and out.
2) AFAIK, 3G radio is hardware dependent. You can flash all the different radios you want, but unless the hardware has that specific frequency, you wont be getting any 850mhz 3G. Meaning, the Euro (t8185) version will not receive AT&T 3G/UMTS because it doesn't have the correct radio hardware.
* except for the radio.

1. NO
2. NO
Keep in mind:
t8185 designed for EU market but compatible gsm with usa ATT for partial functionality.
t9193 designed for AU/Asian market but compatible gsm & maybe 3g WITH USA att, but ROM dependent to accomplish that. You won't get stable 3g WITH telstra rom, but need customized rom.
t9193 hardware is NOT compatible for T-Mobile, at least no released model I know of yet.
HTC HD2 coming to T-Mobile, supposedly in March 2010. (probably a different htc model number)
Rumors are HTC HD2 coming to Sprint ( possibly android os model) & Verizon (as wm os) sometime in future. att...who knows?
Radio rom upgrades can sometimes improve your experience, but only within the limits of your hardware.
ROM upgrades cannot change the hardware compatibitity for a given signal. You must change chip inside the device for that.
ROM upgardes or customizing rom can improve your experience with your given hardware signal compatibility. (e.g. bug fix that improves signal problem)
Hold on to your t8185 until usa versions of the htc HD2 hit the market. Then, you'll have options. (e.g. change phone or change providers or both)
If htc HD2 is really a big hit in usa, then expect most providers to have it or a hardware variation of it, later this year.
Hello Everyone,
Anyone know the model number for the USA T-Mobile Version?
Thank you ,
Monnie
thanks for the info devilduck, i can't switch contracts till mid 2011 so i really wanted 3g with my current provider, at&t. Guess i'll just have to switch to 9193 eventually.
And to monnie, i dont think they have the model number out just yet.
OK I have done some searching around on this topic and I'm finding a lot of mixed information. I'm currently on the Rogers network here in Canada and I managed to get my hands on an HD2 for next to nothing. So I jumped on the chance to have a "boot whatever the heck you want phone". However, while initially researching the phone I only quickly looked over the supported frequencies for the phone to ensure that I could use in on Rogers. Of course it will work as a phone just fine, however, it will not support 3g....apparently.
Started searching about for a way to change the phones frequency and some are saying it is possible to flash another radio for say the European version and some are saying that's not possible. I'm inclined to think it is not possible and that it is a hardware limitation. I figure that this is the best place to look for some real answers. Anyone have some insight into this matter? Oh and if it is a hardware issue and it can be changed....I'm not afraid to take the whole phone apart to try it. Ive done my share of tear downs on other phones....just for the heck of it.
Thanks in advance
only the telstra model will give you 3g on rogers.
hardware, and not changeable
yes you can change the radio (if youhave a tmous ((t mobile us)) then you need to be REAL careful which radio you flash) but changing radio has no effect on the bands.
this forum is for the regular hd2, the tmous (if that's what you have) can be found here

If you have the T-Mobile US version then you can use it on Wind Mobile here in Canada. This is what I'm doing and everything works great, including the 3g. I've loaded Android on it and I absolutely love my HD2!

I actually bought a Telstra (Montreal Fido user) because we don't have Wind here... Telstra works great. Got it off ebay from a nice aussie fellow. I wanted the Tmous one for the extra ROM space, but hey... As long as Android runs on it, I'm more than happy!
Welcome to the HD2 community.
Hi any rom with froyo for my G3L
Thanks

check out the threads in general section
The regular I5800 europe roms work fine.
Actually, the European versions do cause problems. Since the 3G frequencies are different in Europe and America, an European ROM will not fit snuggly into the American versions of the phone. At worst, you'll never get 3G coverage and will be stuck on Edge or just G, in the best case scenario it will work, but since the phone has to be calculating a number of redundant transmission packets, you battery life will be affected. The only way to really make the problems go away is for an American based company to release a firmware on froyo... which is ridiculously easy if you're looking from the point of view of the developer, because the only thing that has to be changed are the antenna frequencies in the drivers (easily done with the base code and the right tools).
The saddest thing is the superior i9000 (Galaxy S) already has Froyo firmwares in America, Asia and Europe; the inferior i5500 (Galaxy 5) already has Froyo firmwares in America, Asia and Europe. However, for some reason companies have not taken interest in the Galaxy 3. I bought mine in Brazil and have been using it in Argentina, which thank god has SOME european frequency antennas, which means I do get 3G sometimes. However, my battery drains way faster in an European Eclair or Froyo than it did in the American Eclair.
i don't know dude... but when i flashed froyo (kyrillos custom rom) i get everything... even the 3g... and it works like a charm. with the command *#2263# it shows all GSM bands.. even the 850 band.
i have a I5800L flashed with XXJPM (european rom) and no issues what so ever.
try a custom rom . Indroid is very good and fast
Anyone with more insight or experience? Not sure if I should bother picking a 5800L, if I can't run a stable version of Froyo.
Docnus: So zero issues using Kyrillos?
I'm using Kryrillos v3.0, no problems.
Quick & stable. GPS, WI-FI, 3g works fine.
Still confused?
Hi,
Could some one please tell me, what is difference between Firmware Froyo, Honeycomb and Rom's I5800XWJPD,I5801ZHJPF,JPM,Kyrillos,..etc.
Currently using Samsung Galaxy 3 GTi5801, and its very slow.
I need desperate upgrade. Please someone guide me, am newbie to this hole android OS.
Thanks
Hi
I just wondered if it was possible to install the baseband-N_01.77.36p radio on a Neutrino rom on a UK model Atrix??
I would love to have some radio that this was suppose to have in the first place?
Surely there's someone who has installed this?

What are you on about...?
Firstly, the UK model is NOT 4G, and will not achieve the so called AT&T 4G speeds. Yes it supports HSPA+ (Which ATT call 4G) but its not the same class as theirs.
Second of all, why do you want to install an AT&T radio on a non AT&T phone? There are plenty of radios for your phone.
It should work, but I don't see the point, also, you may get a false 3G reading i.e your signal will always be 1 bar.
im using an atrix on Everything Everywhere in the UK using N_01.100.00R with no issues, works very well for me.

Me too, but radio performance is weaker on my Atrix than my HTC Hero! In the same place connected to the same cell. Better radio performance would be a real improvement to this h/s.
What's the stock radio in the UK 2.3.4 build?
hi everyone ...
just got my galaxy siii and loving it... wondering which development forum is for the Canadian bell phone SGH-1747m ...
thanx

there isn't one so far but there is a thread that may be of interest to you:fingers-crossed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735482
Bell version is the same as AT&T regarding the hardware so it should be in the same forum.
Evantually everyone will realize that every SGH-I747M is the same and everything that works for one will work for the others. I have the first Galaxy S I9000m and I've flashed so much I9000 stuff you wouldn't believe it.
As long as the model number is the same the hardware is the same and you don't have to worry about carrier.
The only thing that will change is the modem software will be configured differently from carrier to carrier but as long as it's the same model number (I747M) it means the antenna inside is the same so you would still be able to connect even if you flashed an AT&T modem but reception might be little different.
I can't wait to get my hand on a GS 3. I should get it this week end.
