Hello Motorola! - Atrix 4G General

After AT&T somehow letting me have 2 upgrades within 5 months I am now the owner of the Motorola Atrix. I was getting tired of my Captivate due to its sluggishness and random shutdowns, but hell the upgrade to it was free in October. Anywho, this Atrix FLIES compared to the Captivate.
Bla bla bla.....
- Toast

Yeah!! You too!!!? I got my Captivate 4 months ago and just got a free Atrix a week ago!! I almost sort of like ATT. I've had them since they were pac-bell. As long as you don't have an apple product, you can scum them for service costs and free equipment left and right.
They've gotten better at tracking lately, but nothing a nice girl in the sales department can't help but overlook.
I don't feel bad, they scum us out of decent phones, service, and bloat crap 24-7

Now you need to tell me how you got it for free! Lol. I had to pay the $199 + $18 upgrade fee.
What's funny is this Captivate is still under warranty and the rep at the AT&T store said on the third phone after a straight exchange is usually a choice of your own, so maybe I'll see if there is another free Android phone lol.
Too bad also to see DG leaving the Atrix behind.

Htc hd2 -- $48.88

Sick to my stomach

amazon
Amazon price: $49.99 (with new service plan)
I would have done this, except I couldn't add a line through amazon.
I wonder if the outright purchase price has dropped any? At this pricing it would have been worthwhile for me to renew my contract and get roped into the $30 a month data plan.
I outright purchased my HD2 since over the course of the 2 years that my contract would have been extended, the extra $10 a month for the data would have eaten up the savings of getting the HD2 subsidized.
Just the cost of being an early adopter
What the hell.

It's quite sad really. Majority of the people who get the HD2 in the USA are not people who know what Windows Mobile is, and for the most part, get frustrated when they treat it as a phone, instead of a personal computer (SENSE's imperfections is partly to blame for this, which is why I never recommend SENSE to people). I can honestly vouch that the majority of people who got this phone got it because the screen is bigger than the iPhone (and that it is supposed to be T-Mobile's iPhone). That's about it.
Because of this, I"m pretty sure TMobile is experiencing so many returns/complaints from people who have little to know knowledge about Windows Mobile. Therefore, I'm getting the feeling that T-Mobile is starting to think that it's not worth it and is deciding to just push the stock out ASAP (lock whoever they can for the next 2 years), or what's left of it, keep a couple of thousand in stock for return/repair/warranty issues, and call it quits soon (which might lend proof to the upcoming rumor that T-Mobile is ending HD2 soon in July).
It's really sad, because the T-Mobile's HD2 is one of the most solid phones I have ever held in my hand which no cracks, crease, or squeaks. It is a hardware marvel in so many respects it puts a lot of other phones to shame.
Windows Mobile is an OS that is for a very niche market, because it requires a certain finesse and tolerance that a majority of users simply do not have (I give credit to Apple for making a device that works well for the features that it has). Windows Mobile phones are part phone, part personal computer, and part software-gadgetry-hobby for the tech enthusiast.

as above said, its probably because it is becoming a headache for them. I bet they've had hundreds of returns because people have come here, flashed the wrong thing and bricked it, plus thousands more who simply dont get the phone, and have no clue how to start to understand it.
As a line of phones its probably somewhere between a great moneymaker and a support nightmare for tmo.
Sheesh, cut the price I paid in HALF! The nerve....
($99 from Wirefly at release)
As for why, well, I noticed a lot of HD2 commercials from HTC leading up to the release of Evo, then haven't seen any HD2 ones at all after that. Understandable for HTC, but bad for TMO, and it's affiliates. Perhaps lower prices are trying to pull the interest back to the "older" phone.
I got mine at launch at wal-mart - it was $149, so this is a $100 price drop
Shame those of us who paid 350+ can't get some of that cash back lol.
Not to mention that the resale values on eBay will DIVE when we want to sell ours in a year and possibly upgrade. Prices people are paying for used Nexus One's and Apple 3G's is insane! Fortunately paid about 75 in May through Letstalk.com with a coupon so I can definately get that back in a year. At the time Tmobile was charging 199 with a new service agreement. Their return rate must have been like a tidal wave. Amazing that a month ago people couldn't even get this phone as it was constantly on backorder! Guess a software/radio upgrade from Tmobile is now going to be out of the question?!!!
Agree that is a great phone with some minor software flaws but the hardware has been flawless. Look over at the EVO forum and many are have issues with screen delams, bleeding of backlight, badly grounded screens that repond even when touching the kickstand. My HD2 has been perfect - no flexing, dead pixels or button problems.
hd2
i didnt even pay for mine yet. tmobile billed me 130 and i have to pay two payments of 25 bucks so 200 total but they credited me 50 so it was only 150 now i havent had a fone in about month cuz i thought id be paying 25 extra for 6 months and now the fone is cheaper then i got it for with an extra 50, i think im going to call them and try to get my price adjusted !! its going for a third of what i am supposed to pay i might threaten to leave tmobile again or something
just be happy you all got it so much cheaper than the rest of the world to start with. An extra 100 dollars is chicken feed.
Lawl. I would love that the HD2 gets discontinued. It'll make us remaining T-Mobile HD2 owners stand like the few and the proud.

HA! That's what I think as well! It'll be like the "Hard to get your hands on" phone.
Really? The Few, The Proud, The HD2 Owner.
It's still just a phone at the end of the day. I just hope that I will now be able to pick up a second HD2 cheap to experiment with when an Android port becomes available.

I paid $450 the first week of April for mine. But I don't have a contract to worry about and I am still using my t-zones service for $5.99 a month. So still worth it to me.

Atrix for $199 or wait for a different phone?

Hi, I am new around here. Been lurking around for a little while.
I recently lost my iPhone 3Gs so I have been looking around to replace it with an Android phone bc I am kinda bored of iOS.
I dont have an upgrade til at the end of the year so I decided to call the customer relations and see if they can work out something for me. I remember reading in a "how much did you get your atrix for?" thread where the guy said he was leaving unless they gave him a killer deal and got his for $130 +$180 in credit and no renewal of contract which is hard for me to believe. I tried and the best they gave me was $199 with extension.
I am having a hard time deciding whether to move to verizon or t-mobile but they dont have any phones that i am interested in at the moment although it seems like there will be some interesting phones on the way soon.
but I need a smartphone again ASAP bc the 'dumbphone' is makin me feel dumb.
Would it be worth it to try to hustle them a bit more for a better deal or just move on to a different network? I thought they'd give me a better deal since i been with them for a decade now but i do think $199 for the atrix is still pretty reasonable. It is just that I can always use a better deal.
Sorry if this thread is pointless but any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
$199 for an Atrix off-contract is a killer price considering that you can still take your business elsewhere and get at least $400 on ebay for the Atrix if you decide to move.
that's a great deal! go for it, you'll love the atrix
awesome deal
worst case u can still sell it on craigslist for 450+ and u are not in a contract
Honestly... I'd hold off for another month or so and wait for the SGS2. The atrix is a good phone. I jumped on this bandwagon a little early and regret it; I'm waiting for the SGS2 international (I-9100) and jumping ship as soon as it's out.
Don't get me wrong though - if you're not a tinkerer then this is a great phone. And coming from an iphone I assume you don't care about the phone being locked up seeing as how that's Apples M.O. It could be a good phone for you but personally, I want to customize it more than I'm currently able to.

Isn't the SGS2 International like $950 off contract lol.
Yep that's a great deal!!!
It is great phone and hopefully in couple months or sooner the boot loader will get crack which im hopping for it because that will unlock tons more enjoyment from it and with the docks imagine what you can do with those. And even Motorola might even release something or unlock the boot loader when they see sales going down because everyone wants too unlock the full potential of this device!!
I got the atrix laptop dock also which is pretty nice but it just needs a bit more speed.

So I read this as, $199 for a 2 year contract (EXTENSION)..
That's the same as everyone else.. How is that a good deal?
you can get atrix for 119 in costco.

i was about to say the same thing
i was about to say the same thing. bought it few days ago for $120. The good thing is if I dont like the phone I can return it within 90 days without any charges and if something good comes by then (lets say Iphone 5,6 or whtever)..all I have to pay is the difference which is $80...
the price is with contract extension so basically the same price anyone can get. I just said that they would give me the contract/upgrade price now instead of waiting until the end of the year when I will be "eligible" for an upgrade. My bad for the misunderstanding. I'm not sure if I will be able to get the costco price since I can't get it for $199 even from the corporate store. As far as i know, AT&T will only allow me to get it at a discounted price through the customer relations department.
I guess I'll try if I can have the customer relations put a note on my account so that any at&t carrier can see my eligibility.
Hell, you should just buy it outright for the price; if you don't like it you can just sell it for 400+.
The phone is great though, I only took mine back because of the locked bootloader, the galaxy s 2 is coming out, and I just got bored with it.
Amazon's web store has it for $149. You'll lose your unlimited data plan if you have one, but I read that if you badger them enough they'll give it back to you.
That's what I'm going to try anyway!
do you mean if you get it from amazon?
Yes, they force you to change your data plan. Last night I found out you can also get that price at Radioshack, but I don't know if the data plan hassle remains.

I bought mines from radioshack and yes i was forced to convert to one of their new DATA plans, After the changes were done i called up at&t to have my unlimited databack. They submitted a case to their so called "BUFU dept" and they switched my unlimited back in 3 days.
Keep in mind i called before the changes and confirmed that they will put back my data plan
Got mine at Radio Shack for $149. No hassle at all with data plan or setup. Took less time than it typically does at an ATT store.

This phone is available from Amazonwireless for $0.01 with a contract

Seriously just found it today (after reading an article that says its $50 on there), I gave it a shot and if you do a new VZW contract or do it as an upgrade the phone is $0.01 . Of course I STILL can't get it because my upgrade isn't for another month and no matter how much I ask VZW to do it early they won't (my Motorola Droid's keyboard is literally falling off as the glue holding the keys on melts from the heat of the processor, I tried gluing back on with no luck it melted away).
I'm sure this deal will still be around then but I'm getting antsy, and picking my keys up off the ground is annoying.

On a side note, the earliest that VZW will let you upgrade early is 1 week before your upgrade date.
Try and ask them that if they can hold the offer price for you when you upgrade in a month.
My carrier had an offer that saved 380~ dollars plus the savings from contracts, and it only lasted a week. Good thing my brother and I got ourselves brand new phones each
My courier let's you upgrade 4months in advance if you threaten to cancel the contract and resign with another company. Maybe that's what you should do.
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.
Spoke to them today and they are giving me an early upgrade (good news) but I need to do it at the VZW store (bad news). VZW currently has it for $99 which is still a good deal (and I will probably get a $30 credit bringing it to $69) but to get it for a penny would be better. I'm going to call Amazon in the AM to see if they can see it on my account and do it for me, otherwise I'll head to the store and see what I can do. Considering how annoying the keypad screwing up on my droid is I may just eat the cost to have it a month earlier than planned.
Just to give an epilogue to this story, Amazon would not do the early upgrade (I don't blame them, it wasn't their authorization). Went to the VZW store, paid $150 with a $50 mail in rebate, no new every 2 credit (would have had to wait till Sept) so I lost $30 there, then sold my OG Droid to a recycler for $61 so my net cost is $39.
If I had waited I would have gotten the phone for a penny and made back the phone recycle cost (however I noticed those fluctuate a lot so who knows if I would have gotten $61 in a month, It was $80 2 months ago!). So really my net cost could be more, but my old phone was pissing me off to no end, so the price and the fact I'm having a blast with this phone already made it worth it.
PS I almost walked away from the deal because of the difference in price but realized in a month I don't even know if this phone will be available. They literally had 1 in the store, covered in dust and the Verizon guy said hes never even had anyone ask about the phone let alone buy it.
I bought my XP from Amazonwireless for $50, renewed my 2 year contract several months ahead of time
Amazon wouldn't let me do the purchase until I called VZW and told them I wanted a new phone and would get it through Amazon. My contact/every 2 wasn't over until 10/15/2011 or so. I called VZW, they lifted the resitriction and I purchased the phone from Amazon for $50. All I told Verizon was that I was going to get a new phone and renew my contract, I guess it helps that I'm a 10+ year customer.
Then I sold my OG Droid with GPA15 on ebay for $120.

Hmm I've been with them for 10+ yrs as well, but they wouldn't budge on that. You must be more persuasive than me. Ohh well, for $39 I can't complain.
true, a deal is a deal
They did this for me when I purchased my Droid from Amazon a few years ago also. I'm not aggressive or anything when I call, I just bring up a few facts (never late, long time, renewing) and they cut me some slack.

Ok cool well at least now I know for next time I will definitely try this approach, I don't recall that i specifically mentioned that I wanted to buy through Amazon. Well anyway I have 2 years until I can do anything about it, but I will definitely try it then. Hopefully we have the "Play2" by then...

Bought the Vibrant on or near release date? ETF is now 100 dollars.

Just thought I'd poke my head in and let you guys know that if you bought the Vibrant on the release date, today is the day you can terminate your contract and pay a 100 dollar ETF as opposed to a 200 dollar ETF.
I switched to Verizon last month for a number of different reasons. I moved to a different part of the country and my service with T-Mobile here was beyond terrible. I wasn't happy with how T-Mobile/Samsung, or a combination of the two, completely abandoned this device 7 months after the fact. It went beyond not getting the latest version of Android, there are some pretty annoying bugs that never got fixed. After getting shafted by T-Mobile on a number of different devices, it was becoming clear that they don't have the resources to support even their "flagship" smartphones (my T-Mobile MDA never got the updates it deserved either). The G1 was the only device that really got any love for awhile after release, and that was because it's a Google Experience device. Also, it became clear during the proposed merger that customer support just didn't care anymore. But I'm getting way off track here...
Anyway, just letting you all know. 100 dollars may still be too much for you guys to justify walking away, but I'm quite happy in doing so. I'd also like to say thank you to the absolutely wonderful and amazing development community we've had for this device. Without you, this device would be garbage. I mean it. Thanks again for your continued support.
unfortunately i still have 6 more months...thanks for the heads up though.
If it's 6 months or less etf drops to $100. More than 6 months is $200
It's about $120 with tax.

Terrible experience with Tmobile trying to upgrade to GS2

I've been a loyal Tmobile customer for over 10 years, even before they became Tmobile. However, after the terrible customer service experience I've been having with them the past few days over trying to purchasing a GS2 I have decided to brake my contact and move to a different carrier.
They have been giving me the run around and wrong information. I've had enough of their bs!
This is what they have been telling me each time I have called to purchase one. Keep in mind I haven't purchased a Tmobile phone in over 5 years.
(paraphrasing here)
Call #1 They said yes I "qualify for a full upgrade discount" and they have the white GS2 "in stock".
Call #2 , 4 days later, It's my paydays and ready to purchase..."no sorry we don't have any in stock". I said ok nevermind. I'm now thinking I 'll just buy an iphone 4 from craigslist and jailbrake/unlock it. She then puts me on hold. Different rep answers and says "yes we do have some in stock". I order one and again specifically (because I thought they were just trying to keep me happy) say "I want a white samsung galaxy s2". The guys says "no problem, I have that noted."
Call #3, 4 days later they ship me a black GS2. I called and told them the mistake. The rep said I was given the wrong information and that the white GS2 is on "back order". She was very apologetic and said they would ship out a white one asap. I said fine, i'll ship it back and wait out for the white one since I have already been charged $340 for the white one.
Call #4, 5 days later I called to confirm if they received the phone back. They said yes and when I asked when the white would be shipped she said I "don't qualify for a discounted white gs2" and that I could only purchase the black one for the $340 I was charged. I of course was furious because I had been told that I do since I haven't even purchased a phone from them in years. On top of that I haven't found a different price for a white GS2 either from Tmobile.
That was it for me. I asked for a refund and as soon as I get credited back I'm cancelling my service with Tmobile.
I'm moving on to AT&T and getting that sexy Samsung Note!
Awesome story

Really sucks you went through that man.. I feel your pain..
Just really hope you don't go with an Iphone.. Don't get me wrong, its a decent phone, but a decent phone for a 3-4 year old platform..
There is absolutely no competition anymore, the tiny screens, the none existent 4g, the lack of freedom, the list just goes on.
Good luck with whatever you choose.. If you're really leaving I saw go to Verizon and get the Nexus!

I've been an avid fan of the jailbraking community. It's nice what you can do with a jailbroken iphone. However, since I'm with Tmobile I don't ever get a chance to browse 3g/4g speeds. That's probably the main reason why I'm moving away from the iphone and into android/rooting community.
I was leaning on getting the GS2 but today I went to the AT&T store and was blown away by the Samsung Note. I'm getting one Wednesday.
yup. my wife ordered me one as a surprise/gift and they sent an amaze. two months later i finally got my sgs2, $400 on a 2 year contract... if my wife wasn't making me stay with tmob, i would pay the etf and get a galaxy nexus tomorrow.
Damn y are you guys paying so much with a contact? I was only 14 months into my contract when I called the loyalty department, told em att made me an offer I couldn't refuse which included paying my termination fees and asked what they were willing to do to keep me. I ended up with bogo free gs2's for $249+ tax waived the upgrade fees, shipping cost (express shipped), and activation costs.

there customer service may not be perfect but when calling in if the reg cs agent says thru can't do anything or basically tells you no...tell em you want to speak with loyalty department. I have yet to get off the phone without getting my way. Also when speaking with em don't ask for something, you tell em this is what is going to happen, they say O we can't do that simply ask, well fine what's my termination costs? That will get ball rolling.

If you qualified for an upgrade you could get the phone through Amazon or Best Buy. Guess is too late for that.
Sent from my SGH-T989
loyalty/retention department is your best friend
when you call 611 or whatever to call tmobile and the automated system says "what can i help you with today.. you can say etc etc"
SAY: CANCEL or RETENTION
they will transfer you to that department right away. I always talk to the reps there, because they're basically the reps who has been with the company longer and has more power over everything. They are basically supervisors (not really but could be?) to the regular reps, that means their own supervisors even have more power lol.
But anyways, any problems you guys have.. talk to these guys first because they have more access to "the system" than the regular reps, such as discounts and ****.
like bobby said he got a bogo free for $249 free everything.. this is their regular deal.. in fact it's not a deal at all. usually when you're almost 1.5 years into your contract, you're allowed early upgrade.
why is it not a deal? because... the standard upgrade price ranges from free-250 (depends if there are any promotions) so they could've just beautify and you're actually paying the regular upgrade price of $125 per phone (look into it, a lot of people either get the phone free or around $125 when upgrading). Or the phone is $249 and they credit you the $250 "credit" you get when you sign a extension to your contract and that goes into buying your phone.
Anyways! retention! thats who you have to call, I usually jump in and ask the rep whats the best they can do for me. If they say anything lower than $250 credit. that's BS. I have seen people get free phone + $250 credit. you can tell the rep that's what another rep has offered just "30 mins ago" they will try to match it, if not, hang up and call again, talk to another rep.
You know what I ended up getting $250 credit + $10 off every month of my contract. IT is usually one or the other because $10x24 = $240. And yes I have access to $10 2gb plans and $20 5 gb plans as well.
sorry for the ramble but hope this helps people save money on dealing with tmobile reps

13 months into my contract I called and upgraded 2 lines, both got SGS2 for $279 with a $50 mail in rebate. Of course when you deal with t-mobile it's a flip of a coin on getting someone who actually wants to help you. I have hung up and called back several times until I get someone who is helpful and speaks English that i can understand.
As an employee I'm hella disappointed so many people are abusing the retention department in this fashion. And to the op, why didn't u just upgrade in store??? 340 is way more than it is in store so u didn't get a deal...

Ive been with tmobile before it was ever tmobile and my bill is $325+ tax every month which I don't call abusing anything.

They will bend you over any chance they get, so for anyone to stick it to them for a change its well deserved.

My two cents......... I've also been with t mobile for over 12 years. Went thru the same thing as the op, with one exception i was just trying to get a sgs2. Didn't care what color it was. i was told i had to order one and that it wouldn't come till April (this was at the beginning of march) at a price of 340 dollars .
long story short, got mad, cancelled my order with t mobile and told them i was talking my business elsewhere. they told me no one in my market had this phone, and going thru them would be the fastest way to put this phone in my hands----WRONG. an hour later and only 160 dollars spent i had the phone. TARGET had 10 in stock at half the price.

In addition, the reason why i think op didmt buy the phone in the store is because he wanted the white one
