Tether in infrastructure mode? - Vibrant General

Is there any war to tether my vibrant in infrastructure mode? I'm trying wireless tether app and it appears to only be working in adhoc mode. My nook color can't see it.
How cash I tether in infrastructure mode?
I'm running stock/rooted 2.2 and changing rom isn't an option.

Well, the Mobile AP mod thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756804
But as you may or may not have noticed, it only has 2.1 options. I guess you could try asking? Alternatively, since flashing a rom isn't really an option, you could try flashing just the files contained in the 2.1 MobileAP mod but pulled from a custom 2.2 ROM since you are rooted.
Or... you could USB tether and set up your computer to bridge the android modem and your wireless card. If you're really desperate...

The 2.2 stock build has a wireless ap app but if you use it at extent t-mobile will charge $14/month for it. Wireless tether for root 3.0 beta utilizes the mobile ap app to start the soft ap for infrastructure but doesn't route traffic through the mobile ap app. I believe it also can't be detected by t-mobile if used this way. You need the stock froyo build or a custom rom with the mobile ap app in it. also you need to choose captivate as the profile in wireless tether for root. google wireless tether for root for the beta download

nacron,
That worked great.
It does say mobileap started. Are we sure that tmobilevl won't detect and bill for it?
Is there a thread that discusses using wifi tether experimental in this way?

[Q] Restore to Stock Recovery

I installed OneClick Root + Clockworkmod Recovery on a coworkers phone (actually, 3 coworker, plus myself). One of them has the official Sprint HotSpot ($30 per month), and when I installed Wireless Tether for Root, she said it crawled in comparison (apparently she had two laptops, two other phones, and an iTouch connected to the Sprint Hotspot and two of them were watching video... on 3G...impressive.
So, now I've removed Wireless Tether for Root and she's going to return to the $30 per month service. However, when any device is connected to the Sprint Hotspot app, they won't connect to the internet. I imagine this has something to do with root, so I'd like to restore back to stock recovery (and that way Sprint can fix the problem instead of me trying to deal with it).
So the question is..... is there any way to flash back to stock recovery / no root, WITHOUT clearing out all of her data, apps, etc?
Thanks!
You can use odin to flash back to stock DI18 with no root.

If you are on stock rom why dont u use mobile ap? Its just as fast as sprint mobile hotspot and works on 1x/3g/4g all quickly. I agree wireless tether does crawl. Thats why im on mobile ap and stock rom til the mobile ap gets working on Froyo Deodexed roms.
Look in my signature for mobile ap link. I love it im able to stream netflix on my ipod touch with it and browse on my computer and phone all at the same time and still blazing on all speeds.

I've not used Oden before, I've seen the term but not actually sure what it is?? All of our phones are running the last leak of Froyo (the one that was supposedly official, then turned out to be a leak).
If I go the Odin route, will it clear out all of her data and apps?

I'll check that out. Is it an actual hotspot instead of Ad-Hoc mode?
Yes using Odin will make it like it was a brand new phone. It removes everything. Root, clockwork, apps, data. The only thing it doesn't touch is the sd card

Alright, is there any way to get it back to Stock Recovery without wiping the whole phone back to factory
Anybody know?
As far as I know there is no uninstaller for clockwork. The only way I know is Odin but it wipes everything. I think that might be your only option but I might be wrong. I haven't seen any other way to uninstall clockwork. You can run a root uninstaller but that won't get rid of clockwork.
This thread has an option for uninstalling clockwork recovery. Haven't tried it myself.

You should be able to restore stock recovery by making a tar file containing just recovery.bin from SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 and flashing that with Odin.
You can definitely restore stock recovery by extracting recovery.bin, putting it on your sdcard, grabbing a copy of "redbend_ua" (i.e., from the one click zip) and doing the following with adb:
Code:
adb push redbend_ua /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su # Press "Allow" at the on-screen prompt.
/data/local/tmp/redbend_ua restore /sdcard/recovery.bin /dev/block/bml8
But this won't fix your problem. "Rooting" likely didn't cause the problem either, especially if all you did was install wireless-tether afterwards.
Did you try power-cycling the phone since using wireless-tether and trying the Sprint hotspot app again?

[Q] Htc Evo Shift wireless tether

I'm kinda new to this but I rooted an Htc Evo using a program called "Shift Root & Recovery" after which I tried using wireless tether and it says the kernal is not compatible and then said there is no root. I was just wondering if anyone has maybe had this issue. I checked the bootloader and it says s-off as well as it did install the superuser app. Please help, Thanks
Check if you have root by using something like Titanium Backup and if so then try switching kernels with Kernel Manager, but make sure it's for the ROM.
If it was the Sprint wireless tether it won't work unless you pay or use the hack. But I think you have to be running a non stock rom for the hack to work. You can try using wireless tether for root users, it's free. You can get it from the market.

Gingerbread to Froyo

Will the monster .340 zip from TBH allow me to revert to Froyo after the OTA? I'm using wireless tether (I know, shut it) to TETHER TO MY XOOM instead of bluetooth. The bluetooth connection is just too unreliable. I get disconnects, hung downloads, slow innernets (lol), etc. So I use wireless tether. If the official GB doesn't solve my bluetooth tether woes, will this work? I've noticed it updates pretty much everything during the install, including the kernel.
if you dont get help here, go here
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/
It depends on whether or not the bootloader version is changed. If it is, well we're stuck on gb
To answer your question: no. I've tried and you just bootloop even with wipes and what not. Sbf is the only way (so far) to revert from gb to froyo.

I'm using the SBF-like-update.zip from TBH. I've used this on numerous occasions to go from .588 to stock. I just wasn't sure if it will work with the OTA. I believe the zip contains the boot logo, boot animation, kernel, mbm, cdrom, and software version.
Oh my bad I thought you were talking about maderstcok... But you won't be able to flash a zip on the ota until it's rooted.

[Q] VZW Droid X OTA 2.3.3 Root Issue

I recently had a droid x on froyo running z4root with no problems. Unfortunately, one of my kids allowed the OTA upgrade to complete which brought me to 2.3.3.
After searching around, I was able to find PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.06 and execute to root the phone. I did the one click exploit and the "XP" exploit (since I had root previously and the OTA completed without uninstalling root)
I *think* it's rooted since anytime I execute Barnacle Wifi it is granted superuser permissions. However, as soon as it launches, it drops NAT and the 3g Mobile hotspot App automatically runs and I'm brought to the VZW Mobile Broadband page. Even after I shut down the Barnacle app, any data service fails because of this Mobile BB page. A simple reboot clears the problem
Is there a way to shut 3g Mobile Hotspot app down? Did I miss a step executing root? I ran a shell and was able to "su".
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Rob

This isn't an issue with your root. Verizon blocks tethering on Gingerbread roms.

Bummer. Any work arounds?
Thanks to WUG, check this page out, Droid x teather bootstrap patch info you have to download the bootstrap for the x and install a .zip while in the bootstrap, that installs a patch and the wifi teather app. Now when i launch the wifi teather app the vzw hotspot icon briefly pops up, does nothing, and i can connect to the wifiteather network w/o any problems. Just to be clear, you must be rooted to do this. FYI, the DroidX Does support infrastructure mode so for those of you that have devices that do not support Ad-Hock this is for you(example: HP Touchpad). Hope this helps! If it does, consider clicking the thanks!
Hope this helped!

[Q] Wi-Fi Hotspot Missing

I'm on stock MDL and used CF Auto Root to get root access, have TWRP installed through goo manger. Was watching video to install hotspot mod, found that my Wi-Fi hotspot is missing in the settings menu.

Have you done the Hotspot mod yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950
I took the MDL Odexed version. Is working for me. That's what I'm online with right now, actually. I rooted the same way as you did and also run TWRP.
I don't know the video, but same as you guys, stock MDL, TWRP, flashed via TWRP, works great here.

You got the Wi-Fi hotspot in menu under strings after you flashed the mod or you had it before. I DON'T HAVE WI-FI HOTSPOT IN MENU UNDER SETTINGS. See the pic attached, there is no Wi-Fi hotspot under settings.

I do not know if I had it before I did the above mod or not. I didn't check for it until afterwards. Sorry.
You could pull down the "Hotspot Toggle Widget" from the play store. I use that to toggle mine on and off so I don't have to go into settings each time. Might tell you if it exists or is working?

I'm having the exact same scenario. I hope we can figure this one out . I even flashed the full deadened rom on top to see if it would show up, but it is still gone.
any solution?
I just went from MDL to MF9 (stock rooted on both). When I had the stock MDL and MF9 on the phone in the process, I checked for HotSpot. It was NOT in the settings menu until after I did the mod to enable it. It worked fine in MDL after adding it, and it's working fine in MF9 now that I've added/run the mod.

In this thread post #199 has the solution to get the Wi-Fi hotspot under main menu. I got mine back after changing the value.
