I'm on stock MDL and used CF Auto Root to get root access, have TWRP installed through goo manger. Was watching video to install hotspot mod, found that my Wi-Fi hotspot is missing in the settings menu.

Have you done the Hotspot mod yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256950
I took the MDL Odexed version. Is working for me. That's what I'm online with right now, actually. I rooted the same way as you did and also run TWRP.
I don't know the video, but same as you guys, stock MDL, TWRP, flashed via TWRP, works great here.

You got the Wi-Fi hotspot in menu under strings after you flashed the mod or you had it before. I DON'T HAVE WI-FI HOTSPOT IN MENU UNDER SETTINGS. See the pic attached, there is no Wi-Fi hotspot under settings.

I do not know if I had it before I did the above mod or not. I didn't check for it until afterwards. Sorry.
You could pull down the "Hotspot Toggle Widget" from the play store. I use that to toggle mine on and off so I don't have to go into settings each time. Might tell you if it exists or is working?

I'm having the exact same scenario. I hope we can figure this one out . I even flashed the full deadened rom on top to see if it would show up, but it is still gone.
any solution?
I just went from MDL to MF9 (stock rooted on both). When I had the stock MDL and MF9 on the phone in the process, I checked for HotSpot. It was NOT in the settings menu until after I did the mod to enable it. It worked fine in MDL after adding it, and it's working fine in MF9 now that I've added/run the mod.

In this thread post #199 has the solution to get the Wi-Fi hotspot under main menu. I got mine back after changing the value.

You might try installing superSU from Google Play and switch granting root access to this app in the SU settings.
Is Superuser set to "Prompt" in the settings?

Are your rooted apps actually working fully?
Guess you could try going to Settings > Apps and clear data on superuser before rebooting.

Sounds like you've become unrooted.
Try re-rooting again?
Are you running stock? If so, did this problem appeared after upgrading to 4.2.2? System Updates usually-if not always- break root. Just download Root Checker from the Play Store to check if you still have root access, if not then you must root it again
Hello,
I own a S4 I337M I had it rooted and then proceed to install CM 10.1.3 I had no problems then. Yesterday I got a notification that CM 10.2 was available after I installed it using OTA I lost the ability to turn on the wifi and the 3g.
I had CDW so I wiped my phone and reinstalled 10.2, when I opened titanium it suggested me to try superSU I installed it but when I opened it I got an error saying something about the binary files.
I chose to flash the binary files and now I cannot access to CDW and it seems like I lost root, everything else seems to work good but I would like to have my phone rooted if this cannot be achieved on CM 10.2 I would like to install CDW and go back to 10.1.3.
I tried to root my phone again using ODIN like the first time but it didn't work.
Do you know if there's a way to regain root access or at least to install CDW again?
Thanks in advance.
Never mind.
I was able to put back CDW with Odin and restore the backup of CM 10.1.3.

Phone was upgraded to 4.3. I rooted it, then tried to enable the hotspot, after following a tutorial (One I am now guessing was outdated) it will no longer load past that screen. I've tried wiping the data and cache and also flashing a new mk2 to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like it was an outdated hotspot mod.. restore a nanoid if possible.. If not flash the stock rom that's floating around it someone's repository and start over..
Sorry i cant dig it up for you I'm on my mobile
Side note: if you have a root browser in recovery you could see if the mod backed up the originals and just reinstate them.
System》framework. There should be the 2 files there services.jar. and another I can't remember atm. If the mod backed them up you should see .bak or .old added to them

How would I go about attempting to restore a nanoid? Yeah I am guessing it was oudated. I changed the services and the other one, but I dont have a root browser in recovery. I am taking a look for the stock rom right now.
Found it. Downloading it, will post back with how it goes after flashing it. Thanks for the help so far. School internet is slow so it may be an hour or more to download.

Oh, I will give that a try, thanks again. This stock rom is taking a while to download though.
It booted up, just set everything back up. Now to root it again and try what you said for the tethering. Thanks again!
Make a backup in recovery first before you go mucking around.

Or go download a NAE rom and install it, or there is a thread that people have posted their Nandroid backups of the full rom to keep your root.

Not quite true. You CAN install an OTA if you are rooted, though you WILL lose root and so have to re-root afterwards. Yes, the OTA MAY fail, that's true, but that's usually only the case if you're running an older version of SuperSU that had an issue that's since been fixed.
The trick that messes people up and will cause a failure (though almost definitely not a bricked phone) is you can't have actually made any changes to system files in any way. That obviously means you can't have edited any system files, used any tweaks or mods, etc. It ALSO means you can't have disabled apps using something like Titantium... if you can't disable an app via the standard system app manager but you do through Titantium then that will cause the OTA to fail.
I know this all because I've installed the last three OTAs with root with no issues, but I'm very careful about all of the above because I was burned a few times in the past until I learned

Same problem here, I flashed 4.4 to my phone via ODEN, then did an autoroot. Installing / updating apps works fine. After doing the hotspot mod, any apps that are updated or downloaded will crash when you try to open them.
Hope there is a fix soon
Yeah I know I still haven't figured it out other than I just have to pull the files out n repush the stock files to update apps
Hopefully soon

I had this same issue with NAE hotspot files. CFautoroot worked fine... phone is cool until I installed the hotspot mod files. Every app that updated would become inop with the unfortunately this POS app has crashed and now I going to give you the middle finger etc..etc.... All the apps had the same details in the error report. Had to Reflash NAE because it got so bad I couldn't get to file explore to replace the modded service files. I was applying the hot spot mod by replacing the files using a file explore app.
I installed TWRP to try the recommended method of installing by flashing the .zip through recovery and havn't had a single issue since
Stock 4.4.2 (NAE)
rooted with CFautoroot
TWRP installed through goomanager

you have to download goomanager in the play store first and watch this video how to install TWRP
video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBQTx8FmTtk
Hotspot mod files - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2653666
and then get the zip file for the hotspot mod and put it onto your external sd and go to recovery mode and hit install and then find
your file on your sdcard and swip to install.
Remember to always create a nandriod backup first before flashing the mod!
Hope that helps!

Ok, my apologies, but were the past couple posts directed to the main issue? I got a lil thrown off, but assuming liek everyone else, I am no longer able to open newly installed apps. I can get as far as installing them. But when i try to open them, it force closes " Unfortunately, BlahBlah has stopped ". This be resolved or still a wondering issue?
Resolved by flashing the mod thru twrp recovery basically use Odin and put the twrp tar in pda n flash that and after that is done put the hot spot zip file on your sdcard Then go into recovery n hit install find the zip file and let it install

Hi s4 users.
I would like to add support for sph-l720 to my app. I can enable hotspot if a user with root can give me file from
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
Please be from stock rom fresh after a profile update.
Also indicate exact model from getprop or a look in build.prop
pm me link or come post it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159
Thanks in advance for anyone who takes a moment of their time for me.

The NAE hotspot has problems if you try to copy the hack in with a file explorer. If you want it to work with no problems you need to flash it with a custom recovery.
