How to install android on htc hd 2 (q) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello,
First of all im new and I im from the Netherlands so my English isnt very good. I know there topics about how to isntall android on htc hd 2, but why is there serieus not 1 normal topic on the internet how to install simple android. Im not joking , they all complicated why isnt there a simple easy step for step guide to install android. Im 1000% sure there easier ways to write a guide. And no im not hating, but for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
Its a really bad guide for beginners how to install android. Step 1 ''download a build of your choise'' isnt that wrong to begin with...?
Dont you need to first what SPL is on your device, 2. how much flash card ram your htc hd 2 is. 3 how to active sync with your mobile.
All those things dont come in the guides.
And im not saying i know it all better but there is not 1 guide without a link to that topic, and then go to that topic, and then link to other topic..
Its so confusing, why is not a guide with: 1 first check this bla bla bla 2. download this file 3. download this file ect. and not with links to other topics.
Anyway now i come to my point because i need some help.
First off all i got active sync connection ( so thats good!)
Then i checked my SPL version: 14200000
And then i check my flash ram : 512mb
Till so far i understand it. I looked some tutorials over the internet, and the one say: first intall radio bla bla, other say install first rom.
But can someone help me in simple steps by typing your own steps what to do now. And then i mean with simple download links and not link to topics.
And the android i want: doesnt matter, it must easy to install and internet must work, i dont need the newest. Mabye i want dual boot if isnt hard
O yea and i want to install in on a 2gb sd card ( IS THAT OK)???
And please dont link me to other tutorials, they all begin with check your flash , nand ect. I dont know what that all is, and yea u can link me to a description of those words but then i still dont understand.
I hope you guys just wanna help. Feel free to ask things to me.
Thanks!
EDIT:
i found a simple reaction of someone:
Basically all you do is;
Download the build you want to use...
Extract the "Android" folder....
Place that on your SD card........
Run "clrcad".... (nothing will happen)
Run "haret".....(goodness will happen)
Wait......
Wait some more.....
Android..................
Each Rom thread contains instructions on setting it up......
Search, Read, Enjoy

Look that already way better then all the other weird topics, but im not sure to follow these steps because the steps dont look that perfect. How can he say only 5 things to do when other topics says 15 things you have to do.?? I dont know if its that easy to install android with those 5 small steps.

Okay so first you need to update your SPL to HSPL 2.08.
I know you said no links to threads or anything but this one is needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
You'll find everything you need to know and what you'll need to flash in that thread.
When you're opening the file and about to flash the HSPL make sure you choose 2.08.HSPL from the drop down menu.
After you have HSPL you need to update your radio.
This is the one everybody uses and it's the most up-to-date and stable.
http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F
This is the most up-to-date one that everybody uses. Download that file and extract it then run the RomUpdateUtilty on your PC while your phone is on HSPL 2.08 (volume down then power on).
After that you need to install MAGLDR v1.13. You install this the same way you install the radio.
Scroll down to download the v1.13 version and just click on it.
Once this is installed, while booting, hold the power on button down and you'll go to a black screen with options. Use the volume buttons to go down to .5 USB flasher.
Then from there you can either flash a ROM or flash CWM.
I can't really choose a ROM for you as I don't know... do you know how to partition an SD card to have a FAT32 and Ext3/4 partition?

Ok thank you, but still dont understand.
I need to go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
And then...HSPL2 , HSPL3 HSPL4? or do you mean the : HSPL2_RUN.zip ?
So..
1. Download HSPL2_RUN.zip (
2. Connect mobile to pc with active sync
3.Run the program and then choose .. ? 2.08.HSPL ??
4. Then you download: http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F
5. Extract in on your pc.
6. Connect mobile to pc while its on HSLP 2.08 mode
7. then run RomUpdateUtilty
8. then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618 and download MAGLDR v1.13
9. Connect mobile to pc, run MAGLDR v1.13 while the mobile is on HSLP 2.08 mode
Once its installed and your still on HSLP 2.08 mode what then?
''you'll go to a black screen with options. Use the volume buttons to go down to .5 USB flasher''??
10. Rom install, hows will go that?
And i dont know ''SD card to have a FAT32 and Ext3/4 partition?''
+ its a 2 gb card
I just need a rom: where most of things work: internet + android market
------------
Look this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976992 !! I dont what this happen to me, i need to 100% sure that the way im doing is safe.
Is there anything so far that i missed or didnt do ?

1. Download HSPL2_RUN.zip ( You're best off downloading HSPL4. They all have the little menu where you'll select 2.08.HSPL
2. Connect mobile to pc with active sync
3.Run the program and then choose .. ? 2.08.HSPL ??
4. Then you download: http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F

I wrote some things in bold. Do that much where you get to MAGLDR and I'll look for a ROM. I have a stock gingerbread one on my PC but can't upload it. I'll look around for a ROM. Most are gonna say "low internal storage" though.
Here's a clear guide on how to partition your SD card for a Ext3 partition. What the Ext3 partition does is puts all your apps/data in a partition on your SD instead of on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
Use an Ext3 partition instead of a Ext2 partition though.

Thanks again man! Till my step 9 i understand it all. How the rom ect must go you still must help me out.
Also: I got a 2gb card, is that ok or must ist be 4gb card.
This is very important what i need to know:
''Look this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976992 !! I dont what this happen to me, i need to 100% sure that the way im doing is safe.
Is there anything so far that i missed or didnt do ?''
I dont want to brick my mobile just like that topic starter guy. On my mobile it doesnt have in silver letters T mobile. My ring up and hang up buttons arent colored either.
So thats good.
Are they other things i didnt checked out?

No you won't brick your phone like he did. He flashed the wrong stock ROM which has an incompatible radio for his TMO phone. Us with the European HD2 are lucky, we can flash any radio.
Once you do it the way I said, you shouldn't have any problems.
2GB card is fine, if you don't plan on having tons of music, apps, videos etc.
Also, just make sure when flashing the HSPL you don't choose 2.08.0000. You have to choose 2.08.HSPL.

Ok , you see what i did those easy steps what do when is way easier for someone to follow. But i understand till 9, what then to do.
I only going to start this progress till i 100% understand what to do, i need to know the steps first.

What don't you understand about 9?

You'll see a screen like this when you install magldr and hold the power on button.
{

No, i mean i unsterstand it inclusive 9. So i undstand 9.

If you're afraid of bricking your phone or if you don't will to try something on your own, don't flash your phone and do not even comme back to xda again. You're lucky enough that some nice guy is willing to guide you...

Basically after step 9 all you have to do is flash an Android ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929324
There's a big list of all the ROM's available. I'm just looking for one that doesn't involve Clockwork Mod.

Don't say that, he'll be afraid he's going to brick it then! ;p

So i all have to is step 10 and install a rom. Can u help me to find out a good rom for me, i dont need to be newest. Internet must, android market must work and there must be as much working as it can be.
Can u also how explain me how to install it?
-------------------------
( i just formatted my SD card, with the tutorial you gave me, ) but when i go to Disk 2 where my sd card is. You had to delete something, i had nothing to delete.
Then i clikced on create. Option Primary and Fat ( 2gb card) and clicked OK then Apply. It now says its a FAT sd card. ( SO NOT FAT32..)
Thats all i did, im done now ?
----------------------------
Is this how step 10 must go:
I am then on end of step 9, black screen and click usb flasher. From there>>
10. Ensure "Automatically adjust backlight" is NOT checked (how can i do this when im on the black screen or must i do this before i begin with this all)
11.Visit GameSquare by clicking this link and scroll to the bottom of that page, look for the "Download" link at the bottom. Save the file (currently it is named "HD2Froyo_V2.1.7z") to your computer.
12. Then copy the file i just downloaded on the SD card(root), and unzip it on your sd card
13 Put the sd card in your mobile and for to File Explorer> storagecard>android
14. then click on CLRCAD.exe (it won't respond, but then it's not supposed to, click it anyway), then click haret.exe
And then your done!??
But what does this mean, I cant use windows mobile anymore, and is this steps correct?

So there is one very good Sense ROM that you flash by DAF. It's called prj's Clean Desire - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897191.

You don't need to them steps. That's for booting Android from the SD card.
Use the ROM which Raven_raven linked to, it's a starter and everything works.
That's after you have the black Magldr screen, you go to USB flasher and flash the .exe found in the folder that you downloaded and unzipped.
That's your last step, then you're done.

But i still dont know if my SD card is correct, i use 2gb card. And in the sd tutorial it says i must make it fat, and NOT fat 32.
So is that ok?

With the ROM raven linked to you don't need an Ext3 partition. I think that tutorial is slightly out-dated. You're best off making a FAT32 than a FAT/FAT16.

.. i cant make a fat32 on a 2gb card. Thats says the tutorial u gave me..
But can i start now or can i not start? I got now a Fat 2gb card.

Do you have a Ext3 partition on it too? If you do, you're best off going in to Minitool, right clicking the Ext partition and clicking delete. Then the FAT partition, right click on it and click resize and drag it all the way up. Don't forget to click apply.
Then you're ready. Make sure you download the ROM Raven linked to.

[ROM][WWE][Nov.17.2010] T WM w ANDROID COOKED IN! BlueTopia 1.0.3 by cmylxgo

ANDROID THE EASY WAY v3
My UltraLite ROM with the following Android Built In (Screens in Post 2):
Desire Sense - BlueTopia v1.0.3, by cmylxgo.
FAST, STABLE, COOL as Heck! Thank you cmylxgo for allowing me to cook your fantastic builds into my ROMs. If you like this version of Android, please take the time to thank cmylxgo in his thread.
Booting into Android is controlled by My Android AutoBoot MortScript.
This ROM is for people who want to run Android on their HD2, but maybe don't know where to start. I've spent many hours getting this all working together and working out the bugs so you don't have to. Just run my AutoFlash file, Wait 20-25 minutes, and you will be running Android on your HD2. No worries about where to copy things, or what Radio works with what ROM.
IT JUST WORKS!!!
(As well as Android CAN work on an HD2)
The Windows Portion of this ROM is based on latest T-Mobile 3.14 with almost everything removed, and Radio 2.15.50.14. Not really worth booting into WM as it's VERY stripped down, and it's just used to load Haret to get Android going.
If you want to Flash this ROM, then change the Android build to another, you may, by replacing the Android Folders on your SD Card with your desired Build.
Please read all below before starting. Warning, this will erase all your data and your current ROM. Please backup your DATA First! You can always flash back to your prefered ROM if you don't want to keep this.
Watch the Videos or Follow the 7 Steps Below.
Step 1. Download: Download all files listed here.
a. HardSPL3 Required. If you already have HardSPL3 flashed, you can skip this.
b. Task29 provided by doloop.zip Required.
c. AutoFlash SuperSport - BlueTopia 1.0.3 by cmylxgo - Radio - Hasterin Kernel 8.5.1 v3 Required.
Grab All 4 Parts. Sorry so LARGE!! It's the only way to include everything. MediaFire allows Multiple downloads at a time, so if you have a fast Connection, grab all 4 pieces at once. Mirrors at bottom of this post.
Step 2. Unpack Files: Unzip Task 29 and HardSPL3.
Step 3. Prepare SD Card: Clean old Android and any Android helper folders OFF SD Card ie: Android, Media, FilesToBeDeleted, etc. Recommended - For best results, backup your card, then re-format FAT32.
Step 4. Insert SD Card: Be sure your SD Card is re-installed in your HD2 if not already.
Step 5. HardSPL3: If needed, Flash HardSPL3: Run HSPL3_PKG.exe that you extracted earlier, or be sure you’ve already done it in the past. Follow the instructions found HERE if you don’t know how to install it. This will take about 3 mins.
Step 6. Task29: Run Task29 provided by doloop.exe that you extracted earlier. This should be done before ANY Flash, not only this one. If running Windows Vista or 7, you must Right Click and Run as Administrator. Be sure your phone is connected by USB before running and follow the instructions. It’s just like flashing a ROM. When it reaches 95%, press and HOLD the Volume Down button until it reboots into Bootloader Mode (Red, Green, Blue Screen). This will take about 2 mins.
Step 7. Flash My ROM: Be sure your SD Card is installed in your HD2, then Flash your phone with my ROM. Be sure your phone is connected by USB then enter Bootloader Mode (Red, Green, Blue Screen) by Holding Down the Volume Down button while turning on phone. Run the file "AutoFlash SuperSport - BlueTopia 1.0.3 by cmylxgo - Radio - Hasterin Kernel 8.5.1.part1.exe", the one with My Icon. Follow the Instructions until your phone Reboots. This will take about 9 1/2 mins. Windows will Automatically Reboot a couple more times. Please Wait for Android to start loading. Do NOT touch anything during this step.
Step 8. Wait while Android Starts: Android will now start initializing. You will see the Green hTC logo. Allow Android to set up the Data Space. This takes a LONG time! Be VERY Patient. Up to 10 mins the first time (Mine was 8 mins, Future boots after the first time boot quickly). It will sit on the HTC logo for a LONG time, then blank screen, then final boot. When you see the Slide Down to Unlock Screen, Android is running!!! Complete the Android Setup, then do a final Reboot to finish setting all the programs. To Reboot Android, press and hold the Red Hangup/Power button, then select Reboot, then Select Normal and OK.
That's It, Enjoy!
Installation Video:
How to Prepare for and then Flash My ROM with Android Included
To Play Larger, Click the Video During Playback to open in YouTube.
TIPS:
To Sync Android with your PC, you can use your Google Account, or HTC Sync. HTC Sync allows Photo and Music Sync along with APP Installations.
If you want to prevent the phone from booting into Android, press cancel when prompted just after phone starts up. It will be in WM on a white screen. You only have 6 seconds before AutoBooting into Android Happens.
To Flash another ROM, enter Bootloader - Hold down the Volume Down button while powering on your phone, then Flash your prefered ROM. You can run another Windows Mobile ROM and keep the Android Build on your SD Card if you prefer. Just flash another ROM, then browse your SD Card to the Android Folder, then run CLRCAD.exe, then haret.exe.
Installation Timing Table:
Start Flash
00:00
WM Flash Complete after
9 Minutes 20 Seconds
2 Reboots - LET THE PHONE DO THIS. DO NOT Manually Reboot your phone.
Moving Android to SD Card. Looks like nothing is happening, but it is. Be SURE to wait for this.
3 Minutes
Reboot to Green hTC - Also let the phone do this. DO NOT Manually Reboot the phone.
Green hTC Turns Off after (Important, This is where the Data File is being created, wait for this)
7 Minutes 30 Seconds
Droid Sound and Blue Logo after
30 Seconds
Android Lock Screen after
1 Minute 30 Seconds
DONE! Unlock and finish setting up accounts, etc... NOW you can Manually Reboot one more time.
This is how long everything takes on My HD2. Your's might be slightly different, but it should be within a minute or two for each step. Different SD Cards MIGHT effect the time taken. If something seems to be too long, give it an additional 1-2 minutes for each step, then try again.

Manilla ROM Upgrade.
This ROM is an upgrade for the ROM posted on the first page. This ROM will replace the ROM on the First post. If you have not flashed the ROM on the first page, you will not get Android with this Upgrade.
What this ROM will do:
This is a Fully Capable Sense ROM with extras included, Swype, IME Keyboard, etc. It's based off the latest T-Mobile v3.14 Release ROM. It does not include the Radio or Android. I HIGHLY recommend using THIS RADIO for use with Android.
You can also use this ROM if you want to run another Android Build. As long as you've installed the Android build into the 'Android' folder on your SD Card and CLRCAD.exe and haret.exe are both in that folder, it will boot as before.
DOWNLOAD NOW
Grab BOTH parts and run the first part. After Flashing this ROM, do a Soft Reset, then wait for it to automatically reboot twice! It's now ready for Android.

This particular build was not up yesterday. It's a new Android Build. If you like what you have, you can stay with it. Check out the Android Build Link above to decide what you want to do.
PS: For anyone who has not already downloaded this, Please wait! I'm uploading an update. Nothing major, so if you've already got it, it's fine. Just differences in how it copies the Android files over to SD and how it boots up. I'll post new links when complete.
i will probably reflash being that there was quite a bit more added to the android rom plus some fixes to things, how often will you be updating yours to keep up with the android rom? sorry for the noob question now but how would i go about reflashing after having ur other one installed, just reformat the sd card fat 32 and do it or do i need to use task 29 again?

Actually, if all you want to do is update the Android Build and you are happy with the Windows Mobile portion, you can just download the new Android Build from cmylxgo's thread and replace it on your SD Card. I recommend reformatting your SD Card, but you can just delete all the old Android folders if you want. Remember, you will loose all your Android settings, etc.
I have heard about a program called Titanium Backup that is supposed to backup/restore programs and settings, but I have not used it yet. Try a search for it if interested. It's also in the Android Marketplace, I believe.
PS: The ROM cooked into My Release today is BlueTopia 1.0.2. cmylxgo released BlackTopia 1.0.3 today. Be sure to get the one you want.
for the android folders that get deleated, in the root menu of the sd card is it just the folder that says android and then all the folders inside of it, or are there other folders in the root of the sd card?
YouTube Installation Video
I just uploaded an HD Quality video to YouTube with Instructions on how to Install this ROM. It's at the bottom of Post #1 or on the YouTube site HERE.
It may be a few minutes before it becomes live, and a couple more before it's HD Quality. I JUST uploaded it.

Definately that folder and everything inside, but there may also be other folders.
On my SD Card, I would delete the Following
.android_secure
.footprints
Android
LOST.DIR
media
rosie_scroll
rssreader
Each build is a little different. Also depends on any apps installed.

What Internet Provider are you with? Im on ATT, and I need to install a patch to get it working correctly... Not sure if it would help you or not. Once you install it, you can't uninstall it. You'd need to load Android again to remove it.
The developer of the Android Build says the patch is for anyone that's not strictly on T-Mobile, so I don't know who all it would help. You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820696 attached to the first post at the bottom. It's called Topia.Series.NON-TMOUS.Patch.rar and installation instructions are also on the bottom of first post.

If you are VERY conservative, it will go a day, 8-12 hours. But, the way I use it (Ride it like a Race Horse), I can kill the battery in a couple hours. Lot's of Email, Internet, Youtube, Games, etc... Android is a new toy for me, so I use it hard.
still having a pretty bad issue with the touch screen not working all the timo, have to keep locking and unlocing the phone until it comes back. any thoughts?
The problem i had was that after i did everything i think i interupted the last part of the syncronisation, so when it was in stock mode it didnt boot android. If u will ahve this problem just restart the last part of the instalation(Just run the "AutoFlash SuperSport Android BlueTopia 6" wich has the superman mark =) and dont interupt anything, Let it work and after a while it should boot android , It is working perfectly and is realy nice to have android. It kicks WM6.5 sence ass

It sounds like files didn't finish copying to your SD Card.
After the Flash started, did you tell the phone to reset at any point during setup? The phone will do all the reboots for you until Android Starts. If you reset the phone at the wrong time, it might have prevented all the Android files from copying to your SD Card.
Try flashing again, and don't touch until the Android Lock Screen Appears.
I installed the previous build of this ROM and love it - using the 0.6 version of BlueTopia. I have a few minor issues, but nothing serious. Is there any compelling reason to update to the new Android build? I ask becuase I have all my settings etc and dont really want to start over just for the sake of installing an update.

I think if it's working for you and you are happy, stick with it. The updates are mostly theme updates and fixes for things that don't work. If yours works I'd leave it. 0.6 is still a GREAT build.
touch screen
I'm having same issue with touch screen haven't been able to get mines working for hrs now how are u getting yours to come back
BTW mine is on the lock screen that u have to slide down
I would recommend removing the battery and reboot. See if it clears up. If not, might need to start from Task29.

Can't change from WP7 to android

Hey guys, I have been goosechasing all over the internet for the past 6 hours trying to figure out how to fix this issue, but due to the fact that files are taken down here and there, and guides are out dated, I have gotten nowhere. I can't flash the MIUI 2.2.10 rom to my HD2. Here are the steps I've taken:
1. Downloaded MAGLDR 1.13, Stock WinMo 6.5 rom from T-Mobiles website, downloaded all sort of HD2 recoveries, and lastly the MIUI rom
2. Flashed back to WinMo 6.5 through executing the "T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1.exe" which is the stock rom through MAGLDR
3. Was not able to boot into MAGLDR WinMo 6.5 booted up. I held down the Power Button all the way through the boot, nothing. Tried several times, and then I flashed MAGLDR again. This gave me the error: "SD Kernel Open Failed" or something to that effect, but then it booted into MAGLDR. I decided to continue the next step of

Question: Which section you are original from, wm6, android nand, android sd or wp7? Installed wm6 rom correctly!
- Flash Stock WinMo 6.5 build
- Install HSP 2.08
- Task 29 & Radio 2.15.50...
- Install Magldr
- Partition your NAND (with HD2 toolkit or with the DAF.exe included in the recovery files)
- Boot into CWM and install zip from sd card
I missed any mention of HSPL in your previous comments, but the above stated should work just fine.
Remember that you have to rework your sd card, as far as I know WP7 does strange things to the sd card, so you would have to revert that as well.
Never used WP7 on my phone, but I don´t see why the above mentioned procedure shouldn´t work, the links to some of the files needed are in my signature.
When you do get into MAGLDR.
1.) Go to USB flasher and flash the CWM.. (Clockwork Recovery Mod) (you might want to right click DAF.exe and run as administrator)
2.) After reboot the phone should go into MAGLDR and thereafter scroll to option AD recovery and press "call"
3.) You have entered CWM. Now, format your SD card and then mount your SD card.
4.) Copy the MiUI zip file from computer to phone..
5.) Go to install Zip from sd card and install MIUI.
You're done..

I'm not being sarcastic or anything but ...
Why are you posting this in the development forum?
Why are you even posting it in the WP7 section while your question is totally concerning Android? (because you were on WM6.5)
Why were you trying to mount /system or /cache ? you don't have a rom installed yet !
From the CWM menu, select "install zip from sdcard" and choose your MIUI-rom.zip file and select yes, and now it will flash your rom. Make sure you have had the correct partitions set beforehand .

I posted because i need an answer ASAP and that was the forum with the most recent active posts. Sorry, I'm in the wrong on that one. I flashed the rom and everything, but then it just reboots back into CWM everytime, it won't boot into the room, more specifically, it boots into MAGLDR which automatically boots into CWM. I have HSPL 2.08 installed already. I haven't repartitioned anything. How do i do that?

Guys, give the guy a break. He's already admitted that he was wrong.
Back on topic, I recommend using the HD2 toolkit by ksubedi (Thanks to him)
Just follow this guide written by me : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16528026&postcount=7 (Very short and straight-to-the-point with no blabber guide)
Modify step 8 with the rom you are to install as well as step 10 with the required partition size (can be obtained from the thread of your rom).
Good luck.

After instaling Task 29 with Radio 2.15.50.14 windows won't run.It say green HTC and don't startup.
Thanks a lot for **** up my phone ...
What i can do ?
download radio '2.15.50', the 'nand toolkit' and 'paranoidandroid' rom from android NAND section. (You can change later, i'm just keeping it simple.)
phone into bootloader (voldown and power)
connect USB
when the word 'serial' changes to 'USB' on phone screen, ,
run hspl4.exe and choose 2.08.hspl NOT 2.08.0000, it MUST be 2.08.hspl ONLY.
when phone reboots, hold voldown to return to bootloader
serial changes to --> USB
install the radio (either run the customRUU.exe that came with teh radio,
OR
in the nand tookit, at the bottom left ''browse|install RUU'' choose browse and find the radio file you downloaded (RUU_Signed.nbh probably) then click install RUU
when phone reboots, quickly hold voldown to return to bootlaoder
when serial --> USB
in the NAND tookit click 'install magldr'
when phone reboots, don't touch it, it will start the magldr menu. if it doesn't,. you probably skipped the radio step.
In the magldr menu choose USB flasher
in the nand toolkit at the top left make sure 'magldr repart' is selected, then below that click the 150 MB
below that type 5 in the cache size box
then in the bottom left click 'repartition'.
when phone reboots let it load the magldr menu,
choose option 8 - AD recovery - this will start clockworkmod
in the clockwork mod menu choose mounts and storage - mount sd card-
copy the paranoid android rom.zip (dont unzip it) to your sd card
(you can also do this through a card reader if you have one)
still in clockwork mod, press end to step back untill you see the 'install zip from sd ', select that, then 'choose zip from sd' , , find where you copied the rom to, select it, sit back, let it install, then choose reboot system now.
done.
zzz i'm newbie,it looks a bit hard....
Can u support me via Team viwer pls? ...ofc if u have time..
It can't be more simple.. You can also use HD2 Toolkit thread (with screenshots). Link in my signature.

listen and read this CAREFULLY. In order to install android on your internal memory ie. NAND installation, you have to follow these steps,
1. Install HSPL 2.08
2. Install Radio 2.15
3. Install MAGLDR or clK ( BOOTLOADERS )
4. Install CWM(clockworkmod recovery)
5. Install the Rom via CWM
6. Voila
You can google how to do this. Flashing means installing(if you dont know)
This is a very simple guide which takes you through all the above steps and all files are available for download. READ READ and READ somemore

Sometimes you may run into strange problems when you install the ROM.
Therefore, my recommendation is after installing CWM do:
- Partition your HD2 (using HD2 Tool) 170 Mb (Custom) and 5 Mb Cache
- Copy your ROM to the SD Card (Using USB Mount in CWM)
- Flash your ROM using Choose ZIP from SD Card
- Waitn till it has finished
- FLASH YOUR ROM A SECOND TIME (This may solve written data to Bad Blocks)
- Do not reboot but go to Advanged in CWM and do Error Report
- Copy Recovery.log to your PC Using USB Mount and check this with your favourite Wordprocessor (eg. MS-Word) and look for errors
- if there are errors, try flash again of go back and create a bigger partition (5 Mb Increments will work)
- if OK, then reboot type your SIM/PIN ans leave the phone alone for 5 nimutes at least (all sorts of homekeeping going on)
- Log on using your Google account and after you finish, let the phone finish all synchronisations (may take 10 minutes)
- Then fix your Google Play and start installing apps.
Worked for me

During the partitioning process is when CWM is installed, , partitioning wipes / resets the recovery partition, and loads cwm into it, so partitioning 'after' installing cwm is nonsensical.
I assume what you're essentially pointing out is that you have to select a partition size when installing CWM anyway so you may as well do it right the first time, right? Just wanted to clarify to anyone who was unsure of what this meant.
Sent from my NexusHD2 using XDA
yea. for most users, 'partitioning' and 'installing cwm' are the same step. Certainly for magldr, , , perhaps cLK is a little different, but i suspect anyone that knows how to apply cwm without repartitioning, how-to lists don't apply to. Anyone that needs a list, however, could do without teh confusaion of figuring out how to apply cwm and THEN partition.

Htc hd2 noob!

Hi all. I feel such a pain for this because to the people who know what they are doing its probably as easy as pie. But I simply don't have a clue do here goes nothing lol...
So I bought a used htc hd2. And I dont like the Windows OS. I Want to change it to android and Thought it would be easy I have tryed watching endless videos and searching for "how to" guides but the things I am doing just wont work. I would really be grateful if somebody could give me help :fingers-crossed:
Please fire away with questions and I will try answer the best I can.
Thank you for reading even if you cant help
From what I know you need to get hspl 2.08 and then flash magldr and then clockwork mod recovery and Then android
rocking out with my android powered ics sense-ation XE B-)
Thanks for the reply, I Have already tryed to download the HSPL and fell at the first hurdle... I think I am right that I need the HSPL before I flash anything? but when I downloaded the HSPL4 put the phone into mode were there is the red green blue and white screen (sorry dont know the correct term for it) and at the bottom I seen in a video where it says "serial" it is supposed to change to "usb" when connected to my computer? Well this didnt happen for me... SOOO, Im LOST!!
There are some windows mobile builds with built in Android. I would look out for them. It would make things a lot easier till your able to get an idea of whats going on. There is a site called http://www.cellphonerepair.net/ The one in VA when I called a few years ago said they could root my phone and install Android on it for $50. There is also a guy on facebook that can do it but charges a arm and a leg. I guess if your really pressed and want it really bad you could always go that route. I would watch the video's though on youtube. In fact watch them a couple times before trying to do anything. Here's a good nand how to while this one might be better if you want a sd build. There are also how to guide's available on ebay for purchase that range from just a dollar or two all the way to about $20. I think having a look at this would be your best bet. There is also a section for "easy android" that may shed some light on some of your questions you may run into. Maybe you might find looking at the youtube video's and reading a little more informative and then feel a little more confident in giving it another go. I know I had to do it that way and I already had a lot of experience from rooting and installing android on the touch pro 2.
Hi, I wouldnt really mind paying for it to be done properly but Im from the UK not US so I dont think that link would be much use. Thanks anyway.

Just a note to point out that hspl4 can install 2.08.0000 2.08.hspl 2.10.0000 2.10.hspl 3.03.0000 and 3.03.hspl, so simply "flashing hspl4" is a bit of an open statemnt with no facts.
My point is that magldr will ONLY work if you chose 2.08.hspl, anything else and magldr wont start.
Hi again, I need some more help if anyone can understand my nooby efforts of explaining what I am up to Gettin tired of the same screen now and beginning to want to through the phone off the wall. I have getting to what I think from watchin endless amounts of videos the end of the process. But I am lost on how to get the actual android rom onto the phone. Currently this is were I am up to...

This is were I am up to I have tryed to download android roms but dont think I am going the right way about storing them on my computer so they can be put onto the phone? I might be totaly wrong. PLEASEE HELLPP!
have you flashed cwm(clockwork, cwm, cwr, recovery - its called many things)
cos you cant flash teh rom from magldr itself.
so, assuming you havent, , first pick a rom, , for example typhoon. It requires a 150meg partition, , it says so in post 1 or 2, , all roms will tell you this, its important. Dont just think 'oh ill set it to 400meg and then all roms will fit', because you lose any unused space.
SO, from teh magldr screen, choose 'usb flasher', , , , get and run the nand toolkit, , on teh left chooser 150, in cache set to 5, then click magldr repartition.. This will install cwm AND set up teh partitions.
Reboot
in magldr choose 8 - ad recovery
this will start cwm
(put your rom.zip onto the sd card, anywhere, , if you have a card reader use that, if you dont, in cwm choose mounts - mount sd card - dont use teh magldr mass storage option cos it doesnt work)
then, in cwm choose install zip from sd card - choose zip - browse to teh zip file,
done.
When putting the Android ROM of your choice on your SD card it should be in a zip file and look something kind of like this:
H:\typhoonROM.zip it shouldn't be in a folder like H:\hd2roms\typhoonROM.zip
This is the default location when I plug in my SD card to my computer but yours could be E:\, G:\, J:\ etc..

Yep (it shouldn't be unzipped by the way). Now just follow this guide from installing CWM onwards and you should be good to go, assuming you have done everything to this point correctly (HSPL2.08, Radio 2.xx.50.xx, MAGLDR). Note that you will have to adjust the step where it says to flash the correct partition size to the one required for your ROM of choice. The easiest way is probably to use the HD2 Toolkit rather than flashing one of the ones provided, but if you want to you can download one of the CWMs at the bottom of the guide I linked and edit the flash.cfg.

I personally use 7Zip instead (it's easier and it's free) so I don't quite know, but in 7Zip you don't need to re-compress the contents or anything. That guide is indeed very good and detailed, and to check if you have the right radio, just reboot the device. In the bottom right of the screen (or maybe bottom left, you'll be able to tell when you see it) there's some text. The line next to the R is your radio version. It should be 2.xx.50.xx for you to proceed. If not, then you need to change it.

no because even if you did unzip it, the original zip will still be there and intact wherever you downloaded it to. (unless you chose 'open' instead of 'save' when you clicked the download link, which would be an incredibly stupid thing to do, you have no idea what a file is, and your AV software stands a much better chance of catching baddies when you save them rather than open them directly from the web.)

It should be 2.xx.50.xx for you to proceed. If not, then you need to change it.

When I reboot it goes straight to the aMAGLDR menu... :S and there isint anything in the bottom cornors
Ok android is now onto my phone but when I turn on it doesnt go to the menu it goes onto a HTC screen then followed by a black screen with android in blue/white moving writing... but this is as far as it goes :| whats happend now!!

[Q] Oh, I GIVE UP!!

Sorry for having no perseverance but for the last 3 days solid I have been trying to upgrade my basic Win 6.5 hd2 to either Win7 or Android without success - my eyes are hurting, really.
I bricked the phone initially but realised that was my own fault by not following instructions but I rectified the problem and reinstalled the original 6,5 rom from htc.
Back to square one.
I now have managed to get the phone to MAGLDR v1.3 and it's menu shows up whenever I switch the phone on but that's as far as I've got.
The problem I seem to find is that all the easy guides I have visited give a link to the win7 rom and when I click the link I am bombarded with adverts , flashing do-dah's etc, etc to download some advert stuff and also some messages saying the file is no longer available.
I know the xda site encourages noobs to search the site for the answers but all I've found are loads and loads of complicated techno jargon that a noob can't understand.
So, can some kind person please, pretty please, give me a dummies guide to upgrade my standard hd2 to either w7 or android?
Sincerely,
Jenifer.
From MAGDLR to Android OS
Once you managed to install MAGDLR, you're not far from the finish. I will show you my way of installing Andorid OS in HD2. I'm assuming you use Windows, you have an SD card, cable to connect your phone to computer, HSPL 2.08 and radio 2.15.
First, what you will need is HD2 Toolkit windows application, which includes all features to easily manipulate your HD2. So basically it's all-in-one application regarding to HD2 capabilities.
1. a) Download it from here and b) install it.
http://www.filehosting.org/file/details/327686/HD2ToolKit4.2.0.1.zip
Secondly, you will need to install ClockWorkMod into your HD2. To perform this operation, use HD2 Toolkit you just installed. ClockWorkMod enables you to easily install android ROMs, backup and restore them, and other features.
2. This step will re-partition the system size and simultaneously will install ClockWorkMod. a) So open HD2 Toolkit, and select "Repartition MAGDLR" in the first section. b) In the left box choose "Custom". c) Below, type 5, into the cache size box. Keep in mind that different ROMs need different partition size and cache size, but most of them will fit in 180 mb partition size.
c) click the button "Repartition", and the dialog to set the partition size will show, type there 180 mb, and click OK. d) click OK in the next dialog as well, which warns you that all data will be deleted in your phone.
e) DFT Android Flasher dialog will show, click next. Follow instructions, from DFT dialog:
>>Installation Instructions:
1) Connect Your Phone To PC
2) Power Off Your Phone
3) Hold "Power" Button On Your Phone Until You Get To The MAGLDR Menu
4) Use Volume Keys To Navigate To USB FLASHER And Press The Green Button To Choose It
5) Press Next Below
Note: You will loose all the data from your phone!!!<<
Then, you will see some codes running, it indicates that something is going on
Then the device will reboot itself. To verify that ClockWorkMod (CWM) is installed correctly into your HD2, let's try to boot into it. First go into MAGDLR menu and choose "AD Recovery". If you see something similar as here http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/image28.png, you're good to go into the final step.
3. Final step. Choose an Android ROM, you would like to install in your HD2. From my experiences, I highly recommend one of below.
1.) Paranoid Android Jellybean from Xylograph, updated yesterday.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1817793
Download link for MAGDLR: http://d-h.st/unP
2) Gingerbread Xtreme Edition from pongster
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918899
Download link for MAGDLR: http://hyperdroid.calibur.info/index.php?file=c89e2a242464a8910379418dc5930006
If you want something beautiful, customizable, and new, go for first recommendation.
If you want something super fast, simple and very stable go for the second recommendation.
According to my measurement, when the ROM contains installed around 30 applications, an average operation (for example launching viber, or a game) take 2.3 seconds in the first ROM, while the second ROM takes 1.6 seconds.
a) Once you made up your mind download one of the mentioned above ROM, or any other of your desire, but don't forget to choose a ROM which does not exceed the 180 partition size, and to choose the MAGDLR version of ROM, (not CLK).
The downloaded file, will come as ZIP format. b) Copy this file into your SD card. c) Then boot into CWM (AD Recovery) we installed previously, and choose "install Zip from SD card". d) Select "choose zip from sdcard" e) Select the zip containing ROM you previously copied into SD card
f) if any dialog comes up, choose NAND installation, click next/finish if needed, wait for the installation, and reboot the device.
First boot will take a while, mostly 10 minutes.
PS: I recalled all this steps mainly from memory, so I might have forgotten something. For any help feel free to ask.

Check your spam folder. I would post the direct link, but I can't because XDA stupid rules:

Before taking you to upload page, the download should start.
Anyway, search in google "HD2ToolKit4.2.0.1.zip zippyshare" , and click in the website zippyshare (second in my search result), download it from there.
If for some reason you still can't download it, send me a private message with your email.
try the links below, it might help
Hi, thank you, I got the file from zippy. Installed everything re your instructions to the point where my phone has the screen with some blue text and a top hat and cmm based recovery v 5.0.2.6
The final installation seems complicated - if you can spare the time could you walk me through it?
Many thanks
Jenifer
P.S. And thanks to MENGFEI for your advice also.

Final step is the easiest. Right now your HD2 does not have a operating system to run. So, you should choose a ROM (Firmware) to flash/install into HD2. Whatever ROM you seems to like from screenshots download and install it. Whenever you change your mind, you do not have to start from the beginning, but just repeat this final step with a different ROM.
I've tried I guess hundred of ROMs, and from my subjective judgment, I recommended my two favorite ROMs.
To make it even simpler, let's start with Jellybean Paranoid Android ROM, as an example, then whenever you would like to try a different ROM, follow the same instructions.
So in details, what you'll have to do is:
1. Download Android Jellybean 4.1 (Paranoid Android ported from Xylograph) from here http*:*//d-h.st/unP (remove 2 stars)
The file is "PA_leo_beta_v2.15_div2a.zip". This is the ROM.
2. Flash it.
a) Turn off your phone.
b) Remove your SD card
c) Copy the ROM (PA_leo_beta_v2.15_div2a.zip) inside the root SD card.
d) Put the SD card in the phone.
e) Boot into MAGDLR.
f) Using volume down, choose "AD Recovery" to go to the screen with top hat.
(Choose it pressing "answer button", first hard button, next to home)
g) Using volume down, go to "install zip from sdcard", then press answer button
h) In the next menu press again the answer button to select "choose zip from sdcard"
i) Using volume down and up, locate the ROM (PA_leo_beta_v2.15_div2a.zip)
j) Press answer button
k) Press again answer button
l) The installer will show, press touchscreen "Next"
m) Select using touch screen "install to NAND"
n) Press Next
o) I guess you should wait here for installation
p) At the end of installation press Finish.
q) The device will reboot itself, and the after the HTC Screen, you will see Android booting.
r) It will take several minutes, then set up your Android preferences.
Good luck.

Hi, I have downloaded and unzipped the file and I have now a folder on my desktop with 4 folders inside it - sdcard/kernel/METS-INF/system.
Erm, 'flash it'? Not exactly sure what that means. (told you I am a noob)
c) How do I copy the rom into sd card - do I put it into a card reader then plug into pc?
Thanks for your patience.

I didn't say you have to unzip it. Copy the whole file "PA_leo_beta_v2.15_div2a.zip" to SD card. I wouldn't skip an important step as unzipping if it would have been required, so just follow my steps precisely.

My bad, ignore that line. I just wanted to summarize all these steps with a name.
The whole process from a) to r) is the flashing (installation of ROM).

Great. To tell the truth I don't know what it means, so I leave it unchecked.
If you want to run Windows 7 here's a video how to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ7nJ4hSbHc&feature=youtube_gdata_player and for Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833
I still love my Hd2. Running so smooth I just set this up a week ago because my files got corrupted.

Well, at last, thanks to your help finaly got android installed. Seems to be working ok however, I have started to recharge the battery and when I switch the set off it immediately restarts without me touching any buttons. Also, whilst in camera mode a message says 'please insert sd card'
and the settings at the top screen says my sd card corrupted reformat y/n .
Other than that I will give it a try and report back.
P.S. the sd card is the 2 gig standard one that came with the phone.
Cheers
Jenifer.
hi Jeny,
for your SD card, it's really small in capacity & not much to move around & even the 4g i'm using for testing is sometimes not enough. Since SD cards are really cheap nowadays you can get an 8g or 16g card since HD2 supports up to 32g & some can even run those 64g ones.
this tutorial I made is really for the new users to this phone & I made as easy to follow, hope you can get your working coz this is one amazing dev phone!

imcn, there is a much easier, quicker, safer way of getting android onto hd2,its called sd or now native sd,no pissing about with mgldr etc.
also gives you the option to still have winmo 6·5 still on the phone and instantly available if you need to actualy have a guaranteed working phone.
i dont care what folk try and claim for our hd2,just remember, all the hardware was built to run winmo 6·5,not android and phone still runs best using 6·5,see what your battery life is like with android on your phone and if your in a dodgy signal area dont expect much more than 4 hours battery life even with a big mugen battery, android has crap radio software that appears to be about a 5 year step BACKWARD its one of the many major problems android has especialy on an old phone/cpu like ours.
android is fun to play with but somebody should have asked you first if you need a working phone at all times if you do then its much safer to go the sd card way,if you have spare phone as daily phone then fine go the mgldr way.
have tried both ways lots of times, will stick with simple sd card way for now.

Hi, thanks for your post. Would you like to expand on the sd only method? - it sounds interesting.
As for the few things I mentioned above earlier, that's all the problems that I have encountered having tested the phone all day. I don't get a great signal anyway because of my location and there doesn't appear to be any weaker signal running Android. Battery life is much the same - wasn't great with Win 6.5 if I was using the set a lot.
The handset has been very smooth and quick to respond since the upgrade( blackmatrix64 guidance) so, apart from the 'damaged sd card' thing, I am very pleased with the results so far.
I will invest in a bigger sd card tomorrow.
MENGFEI - I will read up on the info you have posted. Thanks
