Was wondering which recovery everyone likes and why. Been using Ra since my G1 and I love it. (searched around for one of these and didnt see it. Mods delete if there was already one of these polls)
Amon all the way

So...since this brought up...I see that some ROMs don't work with some recoveries? Is that correct? I swear it seems some ROMs only work with clockwork...but then I read all over that clockwork is buggy...or doesn't seem to work for everyone...or something.
I was thinking Amon Ra was the way to go.
I'll follow the answers to this one as well.

Thats true. As far as I know, there have been issues with Clockwork not wiping correctly(I know someone like that)and causing bootloops after flashing. I dont know of any roms that dont work with Ra, but I believe Rom Manager will only work with Clockwork.
Clockwork since it is compatible with ROM Manager.
Clockwork since it has a back option in the menus. It's also updated frequently.
I've been running clock on the evo. I tried putting amon in but I guess I'm too stupid cause when I tried following the directions, I borked the phone good and it took me awhile to get everything back into working order. I could flash it now with rom manager but I'm kinda afraid after the last fiasco.

I've found that using both have worked for me the best. If I'm running Fresh Rom I will use Amon Ra's but I'll use clockwork for cm6. Its so easy to jump back and forth between recoveries using rom manager its never really an issue. Either way both developers are awesome and their recoveries both have good things to offer
anyway to switch back to Amon? not feelin the Clockwork im too use to it...

i was wondering the same thing exactly!! So a few days ago i asked the question on the Cyanogen forums... I got a lot of good responses and summarized the comments on the first post... check it out here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2562-best-recovery-for-evo-to-use-with-cm6/
I haven't had one single problem with clockwork recovery.
I like the recovery originally included with toastcfl's root found here. it's very similar to Armon's (don't know if things have to be signed or not), but you use the power button to go back instead of the double-press volume (which I find annoying to do).
I just don't like clockwork as much as the other two, that's just the way it is.
Using Amon Ra because I think it's the only recovery fully compatible with DamageControl.
Not sure of the actual "differences" between it and Clockwork - can anyone clarify?

I'm using clockwork with Damage Control I've had zero problems so far.
I hate Amon recovery... always have to move my ROM downloads to the root of the SD card... forget it 90% of the time and have to reboot to fix it... and that doesn't work so well if I borked my ROM.
I use Clockwork and have zero issues unless I'm trying to autoflash theme updates and such so I have to do those manually. Otherwise no complaints. And no signing issues with Clockwork either.
Amon_RA's recovery FTW!
Well, since rooting 24 hours ago, I've been using Clockwork via recovery boot (not through ROM Manager) and it's worked flawlessly so far. Backed up my rooted stock setup, flashed Fresh, DC, CM6, and then back to Fresh, wiped between every flash, and I've had no problems. Even flashed some Fresh Tweaks in the recovery boot. I actually flashed Amon Ra to see how I liked it . . . and I didn't. Mostly just navigating was a pain with the volume up+down thing, everything else seems like a wash. My only question is whether the Dalvik cache is really being wiped by Clockwork, since it takes half a second to complete when I select the option. I'm going to test it in a few minutes here.
Going to give Baked Snack a run for a while, we'll see how that holds up.
I have wondered that for awhile, silver. It may sound stupid but at least a confirmation in the log messages below would be nice.

Okay, I decided to test. Fired up ADB and booted into recovery from Android. Mounted /data and looked inside /data/dalvik-cache. There was a long list of .dex files. Then I unmounted /data and used the Clockwork menu to wipe the Dalvik-cache (this option is located under the "advanced" menu, NOT just the "wipe cache" option). Re-mounted /data and looked inside . . . and the dalvik-cache directory was gone. It took *slightly* longer than normal when I actually hit the button to wipe it (more like .7 seconds instead of .5), but it does appear that my Clockwork v2.5.0.1 is wiping dalvik just fine. And, of course, when I rebooted back into Android (rooted .6 stock at the moment) it took a long time to boot at the 4G screen, as the cache was being rebuilt. Once I was back in, I checked the /data directory again and dalvik-cache was back and full of .dex files again.
So there. No more speculating, just science.
And if you're ever worried about it, you can just use ADB to wipe the dalvik-cache yourself:
Code:
adb shell
mount /data
rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/*
Then you can use the Clockwork menu to wipe everything else and flash your ROM. These three commands actually just delete everything inside the dalvik-cache directory, whereas Clockwork appears to remove the directory entirely. Doesn't really matter either way, the system will replace the directory if it gets deleted.
Mmm . . . terminal code.
Apologies for the double post but I'm dying to get my wildfire back working.
Rooted it yesterday with unrevoked, attempted to add the Openfire ROM this morning with everything going fine untill the reboot. I'm now stuck on the white HTC screen and have been for the last hour. Any help would be great, cheers.
did u do nandriod back up first
Sent from my Archos5 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I backed up the stock firmware I already had manually, before it prompted on the flash.
did you do a full wipe before flashing the rom?
No i didn't, thought it would be safer incase something went wrong?
run your restore then I couldn't get it to work either
Sent from my Archos5 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
if you did a nandroid backup of your stock rom then you should be fine to wipe, since you did not wipe and flashed the new rom over your stock rom, apps and settings will conflict, therefore not work...
Right I see, I'm currently going through what I'm guessing is the restore....recovery - Nandroid, I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.
Nope I seem to be getting nowhere here, can someone point me in the direction of the restore?
you didn't do nandroid backup did you haha, you'll have to install an RUU file to return to stock rom, or just do a full wipe and flash a new rom like openfire or wildpuzzle.
Where can I find the RUU file and how do I access my SD card? USB won't let me get to it, I'm guessing the phone is in charge mode?
go into recovery - partitons menu - mount sd card (or somthing like that) to open your memory card
Spot on, I'm on downloading an ruu file now, going to load it up with a stock rom then try flashing it again, but wiping it this time.
Infact how do I do a full wipe? I'm after the easiest way to get the phone booting up so I can flash it properly?
Anyone?
I'm still no further than I was three hours ago!
EDIT:
BREAKTHROUGH!!! =D
Restored it to before I flashed it incorrectly. Nearly threw the phone across the room in excitement.
go into clockwork recovery and click the title "wipe data/factory reset" and then flash the ROM you want to use.. to install a ROM:
- "install zip from sdcard"
- "Choose zip from sdcard"
- "click the zipfile"
- "yes"
- "reboot"
and if you want to install RUU dont ask me never done that

From the HBOOT screen go to recovery, then nandroid, restore, and to the appropriate time/date.
I've still had no luck with actually flashing the phone though. Back to Android 2.1 for me.
I'm 99% percent sure you have the OC issue some ppl incl myself on here have - try reinstalling openfire if thats what you wanna use - and then go to wildpuzzle thread - dl 0050 and flash it. If i'm correct phone will be fine and use openfire - but will NOT be overclockable. I wish Jacob had my phone or got hold of a phone w that problem...
I had problems with the Wildpuzzle 8.0.11 ROM, it would just sit there (did a ADB logcat on it, but I've lost the actual log... sorry! ) ignoring a duplicate entry (yeah, I did a full wipe . Removed WP and put on the latest OpenFire ROM... omg... what a difference to the stock ROM! Soooo much faster, even before I overclocked it.
I'd say, if you have boot issues with WP give OpenFire a go. Certainly worked a treat on my Wildfire.
Hi guys,
I've tried using unrevoked 3.3 on my wildfire, with android 2.1, didn't work - so I tried 3.2 and I got the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1 on there, I can boot into that now,
But still not knowing how to root it,
Can someone give me some advice from here, I get the "Internal error" message and can't go any further, but I assume you can manually do it, since I've got the clockworkmod recovery on there,
Toby =)

if you have clockworkmod recovery then that means you rooted it, just put a custom rom onto your sd card, boot into recovery and install zip from sd card. do a nandroid backup of your rom first.
When I try using Titanium Backup, I get a failed message...

Nope, you should be fine.
Thank you, I'll let you know how it goes, is Wildpuzzle rom trustworthy? It's been around for awhile right? =)
Yeah wildpuzzle is good, I used to use it.
I had abit of a freak out, I wiped my phone then couldn't load any custom rom =( But now its loading, hoping it works...
I don't know if the rom is loading or not, the screen with the android symbol coming out of the box showed up now and white backgroud with the "HTC quietly brilliant" animation seems to be sitting there forever,
I installed the SUnAaBh v1.1** rom from sc card,
Does this seem right?
First boot takes 10 to 15 min.
You should have done a nandroid backup of your stock rom first, oh well.
If it doesn't boot, do a full wipe, wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache in recovery and flash again.
After like 2 or 3 minutes, the screen goes black then the HTC logo screen comes back on and loads again, makes me think its in a loop and no installed right =\
Do a full wipe and try flash again. If it doesn't work, try a different rom.
Yeah, I did a back up with nandroid then moved the files to my computer incase, they was in a folder called orangeworkmod folder?,
Wipe cache?

Yes, you should wipe data and cache before installing a new rom. They are all there in recovery.
Okay, yeah - its all good, was just taking time, does wildpuzzle rom have overclocking feature, or is that a application?
Hey MT4G guru's i need your assistance.
1st off im an Evo user..rooted and all so im not to shabby at doing this. 2nd I rooted her phone using visionary.
So on to the problem. I tried to flash her a theme. I nandrioded (backup) first as usual. The theme which ended up being a full ROM--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929101
It flashed successfully but when i rebooted it gets stuck at the white MT4G screen and stays there forever.
**I can still get into the bootloader & recovery.**
Tried to restore...NO LUCK. It restores, I reboot then the Same white screen.
Tried to factory reset, dalvik & cache wipe..... NO LUCK
Tried Update.zip Nothing!!!
Even tried pd15img in the bootloader. NOTHING!! It doesnt even recognize it!!
Guys i even looked into odin which i found out it isnt needed on phones with recovery.
Hate to sound like a noob but Help!!!!
...A fixed phone will result in 30,000 "thanks" button presses.....cause shes pissed to say the least....
Edit: Ok i believe i found the problem. I had clockwork 2.5.1.2 instead of 3 on her phone. Ok so now that i found the problem how do i fix it??
go to this link http://goo.gl/K0xTy and follow the instructions. you are flashing a cm7 rom and for this phone requires a different recovery. Then flash your rom
Flash cm6 first it will boot with 2.5
twiztid
If you made a nandroid backup, which you always should do before flashing a new rom, you can restore it using clockwork 2.5.1.2. If you don't have a backup you can do two things. You can use fastboot to flash clockwork recovery v3.0.0.5 to the phone then reboot into recovery and successfully flash CM7. If you don't know how to use fastboot then you can use the existing recovery to flash a froyo based rom on the phone. Either iced glacier or CM6 will flash ok. Perform a full wipe before you flash. Once you have a froyo rom working you can follow TrueBlue_Drew's thread about getting clockwork 3 on the phone without issue. I'm on my phone so I can't provide the link but it is in the mt4g development section. It is in a sticky called Resource Bible. In the OP, scroll until you see the header Recoveries and choose the link called Easiest way to install clockwork 3.0.0.5 by TrueBlue_Drew. Follow his instructions and you'll be able to switch between clockwork versions with no hassle. Of course, once you have clockwork 3 working you can flash CM7.
EDIT: Drew replied before I finished writing so follow his link once you are able to boot successfully.

hello everyone,
few days ago i pruchased a new kingston 16g card, and follow the resource bible tried to restore my cell back to stock. i format the sdcard, insert to the slot, and then follow the steps "stock nandroid retore" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845756
everything worked fine, i am sure it was completed, but at the very last step to reboot my phone, it stuck at "mytouch 4g" boot screen, cant reboot into the system, bricked i think? so i tried another thread by using PD15IMG, finally i can back to normal and a clean stock status.
(my phone is s-off, permrooted, oc1.5g)now my question is, why can't i success the nandroid restore? did i do anything wrong or do i need some more roms/files/images on my new sdcard? after this i even tried to backup my own nandroid backups and then run restore via rom manager, but i still got the same results, can't completed nandroid restore, always stuck at mytouch 4g boot screen
sorry for my really bad English, hope u guys can understand me... i just need an answer/method/guide that i can try some more new roms/oc kernels in the future without worry bricking my phone. dont really wnat to go over and over again the PD15IMG, i got scared though...
Thank you for ur help!
You probably flashed recovery version 3.0.0.5 in which you cannot restore your stock ROM with. If you don't have another ROM, you should install a gingerbread ROM such as CM7 and then flash the 3.0.0.6 recovery available in the development thread. Don't worry, your phone is not bricked. If you can turn it on and get into recovery or hboot, it can always be fixed.
I think your problem is that you had the wrong recovery. Flash Drew's 3.0.0.6 zip file to get that recovery and then pick 3.0.0.5 in more recoveries in Rom Manager. Also do your nandroids and restore in Recovery. I never go thru rom manager, it just works better that way for me.
really thank you both for the quick response
i just followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681 ,looks like i completed all the steps, but when i reboot and open rom manger, it still shows current/latest recovery:clockworkmod 3.0.0.5, so idk whether i did it right or not?
anyways, later on i might try either my won nandroid backup/recovery or the stockclean recovery again, then we will know the results...
i really appreciate for ur help!
Yes, when you open up all recoveries in Rom Manager it will still show as 3.0.0.5. If you followed the steps correctly when you flash that one and open up recovery, it will actually be 3.0.0.6 which will show at the top. This version allows you to switch between froyo (2.x) and gingerbread (3.x) based ROMs.

In clckworkmod it will always show 3.0.0.5. Flash the 3.0.0.5 in more recoveries. Then when you go in recovery it will read 3.0.0.6 sounds confusing but its not once you got it. Happy flashing!
