Hey MT4G guru's i need your assistance.
1st off im an Evo user..rooted and all so im not to shabby at doing this. 2nd I rooted her phone using visionary.
So on to the problem. I tried to flash her a theme. I nandrioded (backup) first as usual. The theme which ended up being a full ROM--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929101
It flashed successfully but when i rebooted it gets stuck at the white MT4G screen and stays there forever.
**I can still get into the bootloader & recovery.**
Tried to restore...NO LUCK. It restores, I reboot then the Same white screen.
Tried to factory reset, dalvik & cache wipe..... NO LUCK
Tried Update.zip Nothing!!!
Even tried pd15img in the bootloader. NOTHING!! It doesnt even recognize it!!
Guys i even looked into odin which i found out it isnt needed on phones with recovery.
Hate to sound like a noob but Help!!!!
...A fixed phone will result in 30,000 "thanks" button presses.....cause shes pissed to say the least....
Edit: Ok i believe i found the problem. I had clockwork 2.5.1.2 instead of 3 on her phone. Ok so now that i found the problem how do i fix it??
go to this link http://goo.gl/K0xTy and follow the instructions. you are flashing a cm7 rom and for this phone requires a different recovery. Then flash your rom
Flash cm6 first it will boot with 2.5
twiztid
If you made a nandroid backup, which you always should do before flashing a new rom, you can restore it using clockwork 2.5.1.2. If you don't have a backup you can do two things. You can use fastboot to flash clockwork recovery v3.0.0.5 to the phone then reboot into recovery and successfully flash CM7. If you don't know how to use fastboot then you can use the existing recovery to flash a froyo based rom on the phone. Either iced glacier or CM6 will flash ok. Perform a full wipe before you flash. Once you have a froyo rom working you can follow TrueBlue_Drew's thread about getting clockwork 3 on the phone without issue. I'm on my phone so I can't provide the link but it is in the mt4g development section. It is in a sticky called Resource Bible. In the OP, scroll until you see the header Recoveries and choose the link called Easiest way to install clockwork 3.0.0.5 by TrueBlue_Drew. Follow his instructions and you'll be able to switch between clockwork versions with no hassle. Of course, once you have clockwork 3 working you can flash CM7.
EDIT: Drew replied before I finished writing so follow his link once you are able to boot successfully.

Hey All,
I think I have bricked my Lil Bro's Wildfire it only boots to HBOOT. I can get into psfmod recovery but when I flash any new ROMS it boots straight back to HBOOT/Fastboot menu.
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance
Edit 1: Just in case anyone is having this problem you can find the RUU files here http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Buzz
They haven't worked for me but that doesn't mean they wont for you.
Edit 2: I managed to fix this fault by using the update.zip included in a pack named r1-buzz-root.zip (Google it and you should find it pretty easy). Just flash it using any Recovery tool i.e Clockwork Mod or psfmod.
Thanks to all who tried to help me.
Did you tryed to flash a RUU Rom already?
Download one @ shipped roms.
Just tried one and got an error. Customer ID fail.
what did you do with your phone before it "bricked"??
Had you flashed anything?! .. or tried to root?..or anything else?!
Did the phone work well with the original stock rom?
The phone worked fine. I used Unrevoked to flash psfmod to the phone and the first rom seemed to take. I noticed the touch screen was unresponsive so tried to restore a nandriod backup. Then the phone just started looping back to HBOOT.

i have searched for psfmod, and found ... it's a play station 3 hack utility?!
..and it seems .. it doesn't supports Wildfire :/
http://www.ps3-hacks.com/2010/10/14...eedom-recovery-mod-for-select-android-phones/
..am i right!?
is it possible to wipe factory sets, and cache ... or anything in recovery?
The psfmod recovery installed was for Wildfire. It's on thier download page. I don't understand why I can flash ROMS but once it's finished it just boots HBOOT/Fastboot.
heres the story, i finally had rooted my phone last night with unrevoked3.3. i was running froyo on a 3 day old evo.i was following a thread explaining how to do this on this forum...very detailed, btw.i installed wireless tethering, went from clockwork to aman ra recovery ect. i had made a backup when i still has clockword. after i changed to aman ra and everything was good, i did another back up with aman ra and when the phone went to reboot it froze. i had a pc36img on the sd card bc i was reading tons of threads trying to figure out wtf happend, bc i couldnt boot back into the system, but i could boot into aman ra recovery. after tinkering all night now i can even boot into aman ra bc i had placed a pc36img file on the sd card and it updated something. all i get now is the red exclamation point when trying to go into recovery. ive also tried the ruu to revert back to stock, but i get error 170 cant locate usb...any ideas??? any feedback would be appreciated
i still have the clockwork recovery i had made btw, dont know if that helps
you just have to reinstall the recovery. there is a guide for rooting and its under there. the method I used is in my sig, but just follow the loading recovery part. And read his FAQs there is something stating that if you got the red exclamation then it shows you how to fix it.
ughhh, ive been doing some more reading and i cant find how to flash aman ra1.8.0 back on my phone w/o. i went into the menu and when the disk imagige comes out w the exclamation point i press vol up and power and it takes me to another screena dn asks for a update.zip. im guessing this would be the aman ra 1.8.0 but i cant find it in a zip file. i do have the aman ra 1.8.0, am i supposed to make a zip file with it?
You can flash it via rom manager in the app market.
follow the broken recovery in the first post here [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Don't Be a Hater Edition - Upd. 01.01.11 and you will be back on track
ok...so i flashed with the recovery thing. i can get into the recovery menu now!!!!! omg thanks guys!!
ok so i tried to load from a zip file 3.4.0.1 fresh rom. and it goes through almost the whole thing then it kicks back and doesnt finish. i also tried to use the ruu to go back to factory to start over, no luck ther either. it syas cant find usb.... ideas??....i have read tons of post and i know u guys are busy and youve probably answered these questions a million times, but i cant find the answers yet...
wow, i didnt think this was going to bite me in the a$$ like this lol. i might be a noob on android related things but thats definately not the case with other pc related things. i mean, i mod xboxes, wiis, mess with iphones, ect...u name it....yet here i am 24 hrs later its like rd 7 trying not to end up with a really expensive paperwight. my next step right now is to try and use the ruu to see if i could flash the fone to a factory rom....any of u guys wanna throw some logs onto this fire??
welllll, i got ruu to work and heres what i did. in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6855542&postcount=1 i read something about loading fastboot. i had already had removed the htc sync app from my pc. i enabled fastboot and on my pc the fone showed up as "my htc"...it never did that before...i tried running ruu and it worked!!! it flashed my fone to a stock froyo and im still with s-off. now i dont know whats different now, i guess ill find out soon...thanks to the quick responses from some of you! ill post back bc im going to try and install clockworkmod to see if i could load a backup that i did before converting it to amon ra.
as an end to my story, hopefully this can help other people....i rerooted using revoked3.3, i installed rom manager and clockworkmod again, and was able to restore the backup i had made with rom manager before changingi the restore to amon ra!!!!! all is back to normal, 4g is running, now, onto removing the bloatware.....sighhhhhh what a relief!

calm down take a breather us XDA users got your back, OK take out the battery and put it back in then go to the Hboot ( hold power and volume down) then once you get to the Hboot Settings use volume down to get to RECOVERY (i think its the third one) then once you get into Clockwork Recovery scroll down to (Backup and Restore) click then press (Restore) and then choose your Restore file it usually Year-month-day hope i helped you donate pls if i did
BE SURE TO KEEP THE CHARGER IN!!
p.s. if it turns off while its restoring even with the charger in let it boot into recovery mode and let it charge up a bit
incase you still need help gtalk me [email protected]
and p.s. CWM 3.0.0.5 is for gingerbread only
Certain roms require certain versions of clockworkmod. I don't know if this also applies to restoring from backups, though. Which type of rom did you flash?
If he flashed the add on 3.0.0.5 has ext3/ext4 support. Should be able to flash froyo and TB Rome.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
3.0.0.6 supports ext3/ex4 3.0.0.5 only does Gingerbread
Edit: I'm being a dumbass yea what he said was right I'm overly tired and I have to explain to her why I was being a dumbass and trying to flash through fastboot but what I don't understand is why its still stuck at the boot screen

Three options
Option one: (easiest)
Since you flashed 3.0.0.5 you must flash a Gingerbread ROM, (Which you can download from here ). Make sure to flash the G/apps after you flash the ROM.
Option two:
you can flash a 2.x.x.x Recovery image, or flash 3.0.0.6 via script or manually do it via the HBoot.
Option three:
Flash the PD15IMG and start over from ground one.
thank you so much for the advice and help. i could bang my head on the wall for trying to load gorillasens. i shouldve left it alone. once i get home from work i will give it a try again.

Ah. i think i see what happened. You rooted your phone. downloaded Clockwork Rom Manager, then flashed a recovery image (which was version 3.x). then tried to flash a 2.2 ROM.
Okay. so what.....
a common mistake but one that can be avoided by doing a little research.
Clockwork's 3.0.0.5 recovery image is only compatible with Gingerbread (2.3) based ROMs.
Clockwork's 2.x recovery image are only compatible with FroYo (2.2) based ROMs.
gorilla is 2.2 So it's not cannot be flashed by the recovery image you are using.
if that is correct then the text in the recovery image should be orange in color. If that is correct.....If i were in your shoes i'd load CM7 w/ the GAPPS > download CWRM from the markert > scroll to the bottom (all clockwork recoveries) and flash the newest 2.x. then boot into recovery / make sure the text is GREEN, not ORANGE, wipe then flash your GorillaSense.
Can you cite a source, because I've also heard people claim that Clockwork 3 is backwards compatible, but there was no evidence either way...?
How would you go about switching from a 2.2 ROM to a 2.3 ROM? Do you have to backup with CWM 2, then install CWM 3 to install the new ROM? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me...?

3.0.0.5 is not backwards compatible, which is the official 3.x that you download via the Application. 3.0.0.6 which is "beta" flashed via the HBoot is backwards compatible.
It's seriously jacked if you ask me.
to go from lets say CM6 > CM7 one would do a nandroid backup of CM6, then go to CWRM flash the 3.0.0.5 recovery image > boot into recovery and flash the CM7.
now to get back to a 2.2 ROM you have to scroll to the bottom of CWRM app's and flash a 2.x version of the recovery then do your nandroid restore, flash the 2.2 recovery image.
From what i've heard once 3.0.0.6 is finished you can use that for everything.
What a pain...
I'm real sketchy about the Clockwork 3 recoveries for the Nexus, because they've been screwing up partitions (mine included). Has there been any problems with Clockwork 3 on the Glacier?

I haven't had any problems with mine. The only problem that was noted was the 3.0.0.5 prior to the official release wouldn't do Nandroid Backups directly from the application. Some were reporting it work work from the recovery image, but mine never did.
and i have a feeling the reason it's screwing with Partitions is this (CM7/CW3.x) is a Ext4 set up. And CM6/CW2.x is a Ext3 set up.
but since it went official the only problem i've seen is people flashing the the wrong recovery for the wrong ROM. People are flashing 3.x because 3 is higher than 2 so they think it's an upgrade and have no clue on the who/what/when/wheres and whys of what its for.
The partition thing is different for the Nexus, because they are cross compatible to a certain degree. I rolled back to CWM 2, but I can still flash CM7 no probs...
It's interesting to note the differences between the two platforms though (Nexus vs Glacier).

Yea between Google's way of doing thing and HTC, but i'm sure the chip-set has something to do with that. and with the sexy nexi only having 512Mb of memory the factor of tricking the phone to use the SD card has something to do with it i'm sure.
i have the 3.x recovery and i can flash iceglacier which is a 2.2 rom with out any issues. what i can't do is restore my backup from my other phone onto this replacement i just got. i made the backup with the 3.x recovery but i just keep getting stuck at the mytouch bootup screen... gonna try flashing the 2.x recovery and see if it lets me do the restore.
hey there everyone. just giving an update.......phone is still messed up. we tried putting gingerbread on and no go....tried flashing to PD15IMG and starting over. no go, it kept saying that "main version older <bad>" the phone wont go past the htc screen. im going on day 3 and no phone. *sigh* open for more advice. should i just buy another phone?

Thank you
Thank goodness someone had this problem
I just ran into the same issue. whew good thing xda is here!!! Thanks fellas
hello everyone,
few days ago i pruchased a new kingston 16g card, and follow the resource bible tried to restore my cell back to stock. i format the sdcard, insert to the slot, and then follow the steps "stock nandroid retore" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845756
everything worked fine, i am sure it was completed, but at the very last step to reboot my phone, it stuck at "mytouch 4g" boot screen, cant reboot into the system, bricked i think? so i tried another thread by using PD15IMG, finally i can back to normal and a clean stock status.
(my phone is s-off, permrooted, oc1.5g)now my question is, why can't i success the nandroid restore? did i do anything wrong or do i need some more roms/files/images on my new sdcard? after this i even tried to backup my own nandroid backups and then run restore via rom manager, but i still got the same results, can't completed nandroid restore, always stuck at mytouch 4g boot screen
sorry for my really bad English, hope u guys can understand me... i just need an answer/method/guide that i can try some more new roms/oc kernels in the future without worry bricking my phone. dont really wnat to go over and over again the PD15IMG, i got scared though...
Thank you for ur help!
You probably flashed recovery version 3.0.0.5 in which you cannot restore your stock ROM with. If you don't have another ROM, you should install a gingerbread ROM such as CM7 and then flash the 3.0.0.6 recovery available in the development thread. Don't worry, your phone is not bricked. If you can turn it on and get into recovery or hboot, it can always be fixed.
I think your problem is that you had the wrong recovery. Flash Drew's 3.0.0.6 zip file to get that recovery and then pick 3.0.0.5 in more recoveries in Rom Manager. Also do your nandroids and restore in Recovery. I never go thru rom manager, it just works better that way for me.
really thank you both for the quick response
i just followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681 ,looks like i completed all the steps, but when i reboot and open rom manger, it still shows current/latest recovery:clockworkmod 3.0.0.5, so idk whether i did it right or not?
anyways, later on i might try either my won nandroid backup/recovery or the stockclean recovery again, then we will know the results...
i really appreciate for ur help!
Yes, when you open up all recoveries in Rom Manager it will still show as 3.0.0.5. If you followed the steps correctly when you flash that one and open up recovery, it will actually be 3.0.0.6 which will show at the top. This version allows you to switch between froyo (2.x) and gingerbread (3.x) based ROMs.

In clckworkmod it will always show 3.0.0.5. Flash the 3.0.0.5 in more recoveries. Then when you go in recovery it will read 3.0.0.6 sounds confusing but its not once you got it. Happy flashing!
one more question
since my software information shows 2.2.1 version, am i on froyo or gingerbread? sry for the stupid question...just cuz i wanna flash an OC kernel but don't know which one should i pick? stock kernel or CM7-Gingerbread kernel? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876848

Search function is down but I did go through a few pages of threads looking for what was going on and no luck but I apologize if this has been solved somewhere else.
First off I would rate my rooting know-how as beginner to intermediate. I've jailbroken/unlocked multiple iPhones awhile back and have rooted/flashed roms on a cliq, mts, my3g, and this mt4g before.
I recently returned my current mt4g back to stock rom and unrooted. I do not think I turned s back on but I should have double checked before.
I currently have root and flashed clockwork and am trying to flash CM7 (I had ran it before on this phone as well). I have an issue right now where I cannot get into clockwork recovery as it will just sit at the mytouch logo forever and if I try and volume up and power into recovery all I get is 3 vibrations and a flashing amber light.
I can boot into the stock (but rooted) rom.
Any ideas? I feel like my recovery is broken or something but this goes beyond what I know. Any help would be great and any information you need I'll be happy to provide.
myTouch 4G, rooted, s (probably) off, stock rom, clockwork says i'm on 3.0.2.4
After reading that, I'm not fully convinced you actually have root and S-OFF. If you're sure you do, download ROM Manager from the Market and use that to install a fresh copy of CWM recovery. Also make sure the "fast boot" option is turned off somewhere under Settings. At that point, there should be nothing preventing you from getting into recovery if you have perm root.
I've got ROM Manager and it has SU permissions and I have the latest recovery flashed but I am still stuck on mytouch logo or the 3 vibrations/amber light when I try to get to recovery. If I reboot there is still no problem getting SU in terminal emulator or ROM manager or anything.
Fast boot is off as well. Thanks for the help so far.
Any ideas?
I don't often boot into recovery manually since most custom ROMs have an enhanced reboot menu with a recovery option, but if memory serves, I believe the key press combination is actually Power + Volume Down, not up like you mentioned in your OP. Give that a try.
Man I am really crazy. Here I am a tmo rep and also a novice modder and I'm hitting power + volume up.
Worked like a charm.. Now just to figure out why clockwork is sitting at the mytouch screen when trying to install CM7.
Thanks for the fresh set of eyes!

After flashing CM7, the phone hangs at the myTouch screen when attempting the first boot?
From ROM Manager if I try to flash CM7 from there it goes to the mytouch screen and hangs before anything else happens.

What if you select the "boot into recovery" option in ROM Manager? Does the phone reboot into CWM recovery? (you should see the main CWM menu in orange text)
Boot into recovery takes me to MT4G logo and hangs.

So you don't have a good installation of CWM. Open ROM Manager again and re-flash a fresh recovery. I think there's an option to wipe your existing recovery beforehand, so if you see that, select it. You need to get a working recovery image before you can do much else.
Deleted current recovery and I confirm my model again and it takes a total of 5 seconds. Trying to reboot into recovery again after and I still hang at MT4G.
I hate it when you know something you need to do but you've been working on it so long you can't come up with new ideas.
Thanks again for the help.
Sorry multipost since it didn't register on my computer the first time for some reason
Yeah sorry man, I've never heard of a situation where CWM stubbornly refuses to install. If you have the engineering bootloader, you could manually flash it that way, but that's my only other idea.
Alright well thanks for all the help man, I'll dig around and pick up tomorrow.
I ended up looking for the recovery myself on the SD card and deleted it and then it flashed no problem. Thanks again for the help
