I mean I know its not a true port but if its easy as the article suggests then why have we not seen at least a semi functioning port yet.
I would attempt to do this myself but before trying to setup everything on my end in order to follow those directions is this something worthwhile?
I believe that reobeet has tried this, but to no avail

Here are the top ways to screw up your Streak. If you are a non techie, pls read this!
1. Installing apps/apk's that are not meant for your Streak. This i think is the most common issue. Check the thread on apps list to ensure its safe. When in doubt, read the info or Check with others
2. Playing around with Rom. (installing 2.1 if you don't have a clue what you're doing) If you don't know how then don't do it. If you are game to test out new rom, read the step by step instruction CAREFULLY, if in doubt still DON'T do it.
3. Rooting. Falshing a boot.img This is highly risky if you don't know what it changes
When any of the above happens and nothing seems to work right, the most likely thing to do is do a hard reset.
The good news is after hard reset your phone might work again!
this is kinda redundant info since we are very lucky with the streak as right now there is no way to permanently damage your streak. unlike other devices which totally brick when a flash goes wrong.
Only number 3 has any chance of screwing up your streak, and even so, it would be a very easy fix.
Hello Im new to the forums
So I was trying to root my evo but i ended up messing it up. It wouldn't read the usb cable or charge and would also not read my SD card. I ended up being able to make it read my SD card but i still haven't been able to resolve the USB issue. I have searched several threads but all those methods of fixing the usb issue require your EVO to be rooted which mine is not.
does anyone know of a way to fix it without being rooted?
and i can't root my phone because it won't read the USB cable while the phone is booted up into android only in fastboot
bump.............

Trying to follow your problem so I'm assuming that your cable is defective. The OEM (HTC) cable provided with my Evo was defective and I had to torque the cable back at the neck of the connector to get it to work but sometimes it would still disconnect. I just bought another cable from eBay and problem solved, I had it in two days and it was cheap.
well i don't think the cable is defective because i can still connect it to the computer in fastboot and run adb commands thru the fastboot
is there a way to run the usb fix through fastboot usb from adb in the command prompt? i read the thread in which it shows the commands needed to fix the usb not reading but it requires super user and i was wondering if you can run that through fastboot instead
the cable isnt defective, you bricked your phone by rooting it incorrectly.
It's actually really hard to brick a phone. Your phone does not energize when it's bricked, hence the name.
You actually don't need a computer to root your phone so the whole USB cable doesn't have to be an issue. I read a post a while back by XDA users that rooted their phones without a computer and then found this on YouTube. I have NOT tried this but it appears plausible.
HTC EVO 4G from Sprint - How to Root and Unlock Nand Protection - Full Root No PC or ADB.
You have to understand that it's really difficult to give you solutions without knowing most of the parameters of your technical challenge. I don't think your phone is bricked but a defective phone is possible hence its irregular behavior--and I mean defective before you purchased it. But persist with this and you'll find that you'll learn a lot in the process. Good luck.

I wish I could help you more but I've never encountered this problem. Try this thread? This user seems to be having a similar issue.. (going to read thread myself).
I was just wondering if there is a fallback if something is messed up during the root process or installing kernals or ROMs or other fun stuff? nandroids, SBF files etc..?
I want to root my TF, but ive been trying to figure out if I were to be stuck god forbid something happens...
any insight would be appreciated!
i would like to know this ass wel. I have had a lot of custom roms etc. At my glaxy S, and if something went wrong, i would just flash it back to stock using odin. Is there something like that for the transforner?
check out the thread "transformer secure key found" thread in the dev section. i'm not gonna pretend i know how the whole thing works exactly, but it seems now the we have the key to the TFs flashing mechanism, all that's needed is a tool to use it, and that can be used as an unbricker of sorts.
so you want to go the super safe route before rooting, you might want to watch the progress of that thread.
I don't need a signature.
I have seen on the TF IRC channel #asus-transformer that the developer RaYmaN intends to release "unbrick" software and instructions this weekend. He has at least two successful TF "unbricks" with his nvflash software already. He is also the developer associated with the "transformer secure key found".
Tab boots to "welcome" screen but does not register touches, leaving me unable to move forward. Ready for the long story?
I am helping a friend who bought this tab from a third party. When he received it, the previous owner stated that they did a factory reset back to Honeycomb but he noticed that it did in fact still have ICS on it. Probably OTA'd when the previous owner did the reset. Tab worked fine for about two weeks until one day he came home and the lockscreen would not register touches. That's where I come in.
I did the "erase, wipe" (booting while switching the screen rotation back and forth.) Tab wiped and brought me to the "Welcome" screen where you select country and language and still does not register touches. I have tried blackthund3r's flash and manager tools, as well as multiple guides to recover from what I have seen referred to as "flu." The main problem I have is that I cannot get a valid UID. Using USBDeview gives me an 11 digit serial but it returns as invalid when plugged into DotNetDetector and I am unable to use SDB because the non working touchscreen has left me unable to enable USB debugging.
Any suggestions, help, advice, on things I can try? I am really stumped and would like to help my friend/conquer this problem. Thanks for anyone who has taken the time to read this/offer help.

Get ready for some Ubuntu... Here is the guide that will get you a valid sbk. My nephew just brought his tab to me after forgetting his password. So I was in the same boat as far as UID/SBK. This is gonna take a while so put some time aside.

As sure as I am reading yoru reply the damn thing just started working. I was able to get to USB debugging and via ADB I was able to pull the UID; which was the same as the one I got from USBDeview btw. Still an 11 digit code. The only thing I can guess is that it has a faulty touchscreen, or maybe the battery was just too low to register touches? Thanks for your reply though. Always nice to be able to rely on the folks at XDA.
That is too cool. The other way is a learning experience to be sure. Enjoy.

I have now realized that the touchscreen does work but is very glitchy and have found that lots of people have had problems with the OTA ICS update. Any suggestions on a good custom ROM for this tab? It isn't mine so I have not been following this section. Would like something close to stock ICS but with fixes that resolve the problems associated with OTA.

First check in Settings>About Tablet>Build Version - this will tell you what rom you are currently running -
Then, if you can, download and install Acer Recovery Installer
This tells you what bootloader and recovery is installed.
The glitches you speak of and the 11 digit uid point to an ICS Rom and unpatched HC bootloader - updating to the new BL often fixes these weird glitches BUT if you flash a custom rom as well, you'll be running sweet!!!
If you wanna stay close to Stock then I'd recommend ezterrys one here comes pre-rooted and busy box installed - and if you want to you can install his Over clocked kernel too.... plus its well maintained and supported
there are many tools and guides around to help you...the ones in my sig for instance the cpuid one has a lot of general info in it too re bootloaders, sbk and flash tools.
If you have any q just ask, there's always someone round willing to help...good luck!!
Well a friend and I have been trying to root my LG Optimus L9 P769 and my Acer A500 for the last few days. I finally found and APX file that after puting it on my internal storage of the phone, going to file manager and opening it followed the instructions and it was rooted. I mentioned all that because I was wondering if there was a way to do it on the A500 that simple. I have tried SuperOneClick and it tells me
: Device missing drivers :USB\VID_0502&PID_3325&M1_01:
it then will ask me if I want to force it on to the device and when clicking yes its says : unknown error ( 0xe000024b) :
Has this happend to anyone. The tablet has ICS on it so im guessing that someone may have done this before?? I am pretty new to this as the cell phone was my first time rooting anything. Im sorry for the poor explanation but Im a mechanic not a computer wiz I can fix your car not your laptop.
I just tried this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593
This didn't help when I clicked on the Runit.win as administrator and it says NO ROOT missing MEMPODROID ....................
Lastly I have tried IconiaRoot 1.3 goes through its process the says something went wrong you are not root. I guess I'll just give up. the person I bought this from probably messed something up.
So out o 98 people not one person has something they can tell me about what might be happening to my tablet.... nice

Sometimes, you just have to read and understand things. To be honest, I think most folks confused this with an LG issue which is why they didn't answer.
Not to mention, the threads are polluted with how to do it (read the stickies). Also, it's august. People go on vacation, have families, jobs, etc.
You want to root ICS I suppose. So let me explain things.
a. Memp... or whatever they called it, doesn't work. Being able to look at the /system is a lot different than having full RW access. Need to understand what root and system RW is. Root only means you can see it.
b. The apk root method, was only good prior to HC 3.2. When 3.2 came around, all bets were off.
Couple this in with a horribly locked bootloader, and it makes things difficult.
So, in answer to the root issue, you need to NVFlash the unlocked bootloader. (instructions in the Dev thread stickies). This is mandatory.
Then you either need to install a pre-rooted rom (flash a CWM or TRWP). Or, you can fastboot a unsecured kernel and continue with your stock rom. (fastboot available after NVFlashing skirlax_cz unlocked bootloader)
There are tools available in the Dev forum stickies. But for me, I prefer the manual method.
And this is how you get full root access for the 50x on ICS.
