[SOLVED] EC05 and Exchange ActiveSync account working?

I just updated to EC05 from stock DI18 using the update.zip file. Update worked fine and everything is working great. The only issue I am having so far is getting email/calendar from my work's exchange server. I can set it up as I usualy do with no problem but when it is suppose to sync it does nothing and no errors appear. I removed and re-added account a couple of times with the same outcome. Anyone got EC05 syncing with exchange server with no issues?
SOLVED: Once I did wipe/reset in factory recovery BEFORE applying update.zip - the issue with not being able to accept security policy got resolved and sync is working fine now.

No problems here with a very picky exchange server here. I know when I do set it up though it asks that I accept this security setting saying the exchange server can wipe my phone. Kinda like the blackberry control when attached to exchange.

Yes - I usualy get this warning as well, but after this update it did not come up when I setup the account. I was surprised and removed and re-added it again and the warning did not show up. I suspect this is why it is not syncing since I did not accept this security policy but it never prompted me to do it!

I had same problem before, took a while to pinpoint problem. Exchange let you have up to 10 mobile devices, if you keep reconnect your phone it treat it as new device, eventually you hit the limit. Go to exchange webbased outlook and there under settings you can see list of mobile devices. Delte old ones. May be not your case, but was mine and took a while to trace it. This version working fine with exchange

Thanks for the advice. It is a bit different in my case since the actual email server is hosted by notifylink servers (we use it as a bridge to retrieve Oracle Beehive email). It suppose to work exact same way as exchange interface and it worked on previous ROM versions with no issues. I just searched high and low in my notifylink control pannel and I can see my phone registered only once... so I am really puzzled. I will continue pocking around. Thanks.

I just had a client call into our support line that's using an Epic with the update that's been pushed out. His account wasn't syncing. I had to have him remove the account and re-configure it. It seems to work after that, though. I don't know, could be an isolated incident.

Thanks. The bad news is that I have done this several times (including re-booting in between) and it didn't help. However, I did resolve it!! My issue was due to the fact that exchange security policy that should come up when account is configured (about remote wipe, passowrd, and all that) for some reason was not being displayed so the sync icon would show up quickly and go away with nothing being synced. So device administrator was not being setup for that account for some reason (usualy you can see it in Settings -> Location and Security -> Select device adminitrators). I had nothing there and no way to accept the security policy. I tried reflashing several times with the same result. Each flash process was first to ODIN to stock DI18 then apply the update.zip from the SD card and everything worked great except that damn exchange mail. So the last flash I did - before I flashed update.zip I picked wipe user data/restore to factory in recovery BEFORE applying update.zip. So the new process was: ODIN to factory DI18, go back to recovery and wipe/reset 3 times, then apply update.zip. After that, I've setup exchange account and bingo, I got the familiar security pop-up to accept. Everything is working great now and no issues anymore. I was getting frustrated because I like the update but I need my work email... so I almost flashed back to EB13 and gave up. So anyone with the same issue, just wipe/reset before update and should be good to go.

My Epic connected to the Exchange server just fine. But it is having some strange behavior. If I send a new message, no problem. If I reply to a message that was sent to me, the new lines are replaced with <br> tags and no new lines. This didn't happen in EB13.
Anyone else seeing this?

I'm syncing with a hosted Exchange 2010 server (outlook.com). I had to change the server address from m.outlook.com to the actual pod*****.outlook.com address, but after that it's working perfectly with my DX on GB.

We have Exchange 2003. Tried everything.

I lose synch whenever my ROM changes.
The first time, I deleted my corp account, and recreated it...that worked.
The second time, I re-entered just my password and the last field had changed the name, not sure why...but fixed that and it resynched after both of those.

It stopped working for me too, but I haven't tried inputting the actual outlook exchange address. We always used m.mycompanyname.com.

Apparently Motorola knows about the problem. I just did a simple google search on my pop up about not being able to provision for my device. So much for "enhanced activesync" lol:

Another e/ee here received the OTA update from Verizon and it ruined her corp sync too. So it has nothing to do with root.
I think there is some issue with pulling the certificate.

I think you are right about the issue having to do with pulling a certificate.
In my case, first OTA install failed, then Verizon folks had me flash back to 2.2, wiping my existing settings.
After the rollback, I was able to install the OTA to get to 2.3 successfully, but now I am not able to setup corporate sync on the phone. All correct settings gets me an error message saying "Login to the server failed, please try again."
One thing I notice is that on the 2.2 Corporate Sync settings, it asks for:
"domain/username" in one textbox
where on the 2.3 settings page, the username and domain are entered on separate textboxes.
Maybe that has nothing to do with anything, but it was something I noticed.
I'll update if I find anything about this issue.

Call was disconnected with VZ, Moto, and I'm too mad/tired to go through the hassle again. Boo.

Droid X - Activesync issues after GB Update
So this is really strange, and I'm truly frustrated. The Mobile device policy in our Exchange 2007 environment will not allow the Corporate Mail application on our DXs provision with the server... unless we check the Allow Simple Passwords option in the policy itself. Then the device is provisioned properly and email, calendar and contacts sync.
This is not optimal as we have a strict Policy for passwords and using a simple password violates that.

I feel your pain Edge... same for me.. doesn't allow for simple passwords. So now I am receiving the provisioning error. I called Verizon lastnight... they forwarded me to motorola and they said for me to send a document stating the settings my company needs to change.. what a joke. I am furious. I don't want third party software to download email... Although my HTC Eris sucked because of the speed.. the company HTC supported my email. Every time there was an upgrade it continued to work.

still busted. Tried several things with my company's outside tech support.
Exchange 2003. Factory reset of phone (twice). Even pulled the SD card after the second factory reset. I manually added certificates. Tried Touchdown. turned SSL on, turned off.
tried all kinds of domain settings. Tried stuff on server side. Still nothing.
Now I'm getting error messages with Gmail.

Our certificate expires in August so the IT guy went ahead and updated it. When turning on account, I left off the domain name and checked SSL. Worked immediately after that. Good luck.

FWIW, i just upgraded to p3droid's rooted GB (performed a full data reset in the process). Setting up my corporate sync was painless (worked first try) and it works flawlessly. Our IT guy is sharp and knows how to configure and maintain our Exchange server with all the latest updates and such. If anyone is having issues with Corporate Sync, I'll bet a dollar that it's a problem with your Exchange Server and not GB.

Exchange support on any android platform is usually from a mis-maintained Exchange server, but it just seems that motorola is extra messed up with their support. I know how my Exchange server is set up and I still have a hard time getting full functionality out of my DX and my corporate email account. At my work I depend on calender support because it's the main means of communication between our IT staff as to who is going to in the office at what point. As of right now, I'm using my work phone to keep up with work which is... Normal? I dunno, but I just know I'll have to float until I can get my hands on a decent root and ROM for the OTA update. I've tried using P3droid's patched version and out of the six times I've tried it, I've either gotten into a boot loop or I've lost all data connectivity- weird.

I had lots of weirdness with GB too when I upgraded (twice) using P3droid's update. I SBFed back to .340 and then did a Factory Data Reset just prior to booting into Clockworkmod's Recovery to do the upgrade. Haven't had one lick of problems since. Give that a try.

Exchange email security.

I tried to set up an account to my Exchange email at work using the default email app on my TF101. When I set up an account it requires that I enable all of these security settings on the tab like having a PIN and encrypting data. I don't want to do all of that. I realize that this is something set up by my Exchange administrator but I am not sure they even did it knowingly and anyway I don't want to have to deal with it to check email.
Does anyone know how to bypass this? Searches of these forums and the web show that there are some modded email apks for other platforms that let you bypass the security settings. I have not seen any such mods for ICS on the TF101.

I do not believe the stock email is able to handle the security settings from an exchange server. You need to look at other programs like Moxier Mail or TouchDown.

+1 for touch down. Works great but it is $20

Enhanced email is another option. I got it from free app of the day by Amazon. At first, it did not work on android 3.0+, but it works fine now. It gives you the option to ignore security policies.
Alternatively, if you decompile the email.apk, I believe you can force a variable so that the email app always tells the exchange server you have sufficient security enabled (I'm not exactly sure where must be changed).

I couldn't agree more. Do the trial first to see if you like it. I don't recommend bypassing the security. You can unknowingly pass a virus through your corporate exchange. Hopefully, one day, they will resolve this issue in the Android exchange client.

When setting up exchange servers in the past, the default exchange policy is to have those features enabled. Even if those are DISABLED, the tablet will still ask to create the partnership. I believe this is so it can be wiped remotely. It seems ICS just tells you it is going to do all of those things as a generic warning. I have noticed this is only on ICS though. If you click ok, it shouldn't ask you to create a PIN or anything if it isn't actually required. We currently only have exchange 2010 in production in a test environment, so I have yet to look for the setting to disable this feature entirely. Hope this helps you understand how it works at least a little.

ICS Problem with Exchange 2007 accounts

maybe someone of you is able to help, or at least enlighten me about the cause of this:
since i use ICS on my note (about for 2 weeks, starting with stunner) i have REALLY BIG problems with one of my exchange accounts, the one which is running on a hosted exchange 2007 (second account with my corporate exchange 2010 is fine)! so until today i hoped that the "official ICS" for the note won't show this behavior, but now with a total clean install of the today released LPY and therefore OFFICIAL SAMSUNG ICS rom, the problem persists!

95 out of 100 trys to connect to my exchange account fails with a message telling me that there is a security error (if needed i can provide some screenshots) telling me that either my username and/or password is incorrect! this makes it almost impossible even to simply add the account. and, on the rare occasions (which SOMETIMES can be triggered through a connection change between wifi and 3g) when the phone is able to connect (and sync), it stops after a few minutes again with the same error.
i re-added the account numerous times, tried everything which came through my mind (change password, enabled and disabled sec features) and trust me, i know what i'm doing here. i configure exchange accounts since almost 10 years from now!

to sum it up:
google developers are recognizing the problem (it seems to exist since android 3+ to some extent) but are unable to provide a solution until now. it seems to be a problem with an EAS policy refresh, which fails and therefore closes (or does not even open) the connection! a guy suggested to disable these policy refresh in the EX2007 config, but this would only be possible if you are the admin of this server (and i doubt that it would make sense, security-wise, too)!
another theory says this mess is due to implementation errors in the connection layer, which directly affects wifi and 3g connection behavior...
i guess that this problem would now get's more imminent, as this security error wasn't occurring at gingerbread. and now more and more people with smartphones will migrate to ICS!
what do you think?
does anybody else experience this? or am i one of the few unlucky bastards?

This seems to be the case on all TW based roms, no matter if GB or ICS at least for me. It syncs fine with Hotmail service but not with my company's 2003 server so there has to be some incompatibility there. When disabling all syncs and re-enabling them it started syncing. Just had to wait for about 30 minutes to get all info synced.
E: On AOSP based (CM9, AOKP) everything works as it should right from the beginning without the extra hassle.

I'm working properly in Galaxy Note, from KKA to LPY, with Exchange 2007 SP3.
Syncing is correct in my case.

Samsungs version of ICS (or Gingerbread) doesn't communicate with Lotus Notes traveler active sync. Cyanogen 9 (ICS) is working out of the box. In Gingerbread the Traveler App is working but in Samsungs version of ICS the widgets dont work.

after fiddling around this WE i think there would be no other solution as reverting back to GB (which would suck, and therefore is no real option), or to change to a hoster with exchange 2010!
every client i tried shows the same behavior, if i'm able to establish a connection it won't last long till the security error reappears! this renders my account almost useless...
i will update this post if something changes!

TIP: Adding Exchange/Hotmail support to GMail

If anyone is interested, the Exchange service on the G4 (at least the T-Mobile version) can be disabled via the apps menu and Google Exchange services can be installed.
This will allow you to use the GMail app with Exchange enabled hosts, like Hotmail/Outlook.com and retain push mail, contact and calendar sync.
Recommended steps:
If you have any accounts using email and exchange, remove them first.
Open Settings/General/Apps/All
Tap on Exchange (The LG one with the blue icon)
Force stop
Disable the Exchange Service
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point)
Install Google Exchange Services
(Restarting your phone is recommended at this point as well)
Open GMail and you will have Exchange as an option when you add an account.

This is gold to me.

Works fine here so far. I just wish you could disable the remote administration requiring your device to use a PIN. I'd love to use Smart Lock.

It's important that you remove any old exchange accounts in email first, then force close the LG exchange service and disable it. If you don't disable it, then GMail will get stuck syncing.

I haven't tried it again yet my life is crazy with a 3 yr old and twins I've been using stock g4 email app. I'll try it this week and report back thanks. Tmo version

Just waiting on root so I can keep my damn unlock screen without having to put in an 8 character password with numbers and special characters every time I want to unlock my phone.
I might just bite the bullet and buy touchdown for $20 because I heard it doesn't need to apply the permissions to your whole phone but just the app.

This. I have used Smart Lock on my N5 with no problems even though we are required to have a PIN. Fired up the G4 and immediately noticed once I setup email Smart Lock was grey and can't be used. I thought that by switching to Gmail for my Exchange email I could get around that only to find Gmail doesn't have Exchange support on this phone (until I found this thread).
Has anyone that has followed the instructions at the top been able to get Smart Lock working when Gmail is used for Exchange email? Or does Touchdown get around this?
I am going to test this out tonight - can't goof around too much while on the job!!

Outlook bypasses the security requirement, but it appears to only sync email, not calendars or contacts. You get prompted that Exchange wants you to accept these changes, but you have an option to deny them.

I'll have to look at that new outlook app closer then. It prompted me for the security permissions to wipe phone, pin, and all that crap so I exited out.
Touchdown is supposed to be all one contained environment so I don't think it syncs with the default apps. I could be wrong as I have never tried it since I always got a PIN bypasser working on my old phones. It is free for a month so try it out! I don't care about contacts and it would be nice to have calendar but I'm not heartbroken over it. What I would like to know is if you still get a notification of new mail. Yeah that request seems to be standard whenever you setup Outlook, regardless of app. It was when it came to the lock screen settings, it allowed me to dismiss it.

I just tried the Outlook app and it required far less permissions then adding an exchange email through the android/lg settings. The regular settings wanted pretty much everything. Wipe, disable camera, password type, password length, password expiration, encrypt phone, disable sd card, etc etc. It had everything and probably because my company just checked everything. Now the question is if it would really do any of those things probably not because that it a further settings in Exchange but it just wants to be able to do all that.
The Outlook just wanted password rules, unlock attempts, lock screen, and encrypt phone. It asked to encrypt and I said no and phone still works. I was able to keep pattern lock screen but it disabled everything else besides pin and password. The Outlook app does not integrate well with Android so everything is contained in it's own app. I don't think it does notifications either since I sent an email and waited a good 10 minutes. My phone never went off but I open the app the email shows up but never as a notification.
So maybe the Outlook app will get you by for the time being.

Hrm - I'm on an LG G4 (EU H815 model, unlocked). No Google Exchange Services visible or available in the Play Store ...
I also have an old Galaxy S3 running 5.1.1 (PacMan rom) - that has Gmail with Exchange working just fine. It has the same version of Gmail as on the G4, but also has "Exchange Services" running. I can't find any other information on that though.
[EDIT] I just checked the link in the OP which looks like the latest apk, but the button for Play Store doesn't work - URL doesn't exist.
Quick question - I haven't disabled LG Exchange on the G4 yet - when I do it says that the app will be hidden from then on. What if one wants to re-enable it - will it still be visible on the Apps menu ?

Yes, just go to your apps in settings and it will be under 'disabled'.

Just switched things over, and Gmail Exchange is working nicely now

Have you been able to figure this out? I have coworkers on a N6, N5, and a HTC One (M7), who all have our Corporate E-mail linked to their phone via either gmail or the htc e-mail app. They can all access their respective Smart Lock settings. On my phone, its grayed out.

Confused on what this does? Just lets you add a second exchange account to gmail? Are emails mixed together or do they remain separated? I like having my Email and Gmail in 2 different apps. I also like the LG email app.
