[Q]Cleanest 2.2.1 ROM that is fully functional - EVO 4G General

I posted yesterday about my girlfriend's EVO freezing up on her after i rooted and her pictures randomly disappearing. I want to install a new ROM on her phone to see if the issues will go away but I need help on choosing the best FroYo ROM that is fully functional. Particularly one that is clean of bloat and is pretty fast. I've searched around but haven't found anything that is as basic as what I'm looking for. I only see her on weekends so if something goes wrong I wont be there to fix it for her so that is the reason I need the best functioning ROM with the least issues.
P.S. I own a Fascinate so please bare with me I'm not familiar with EVO ROMs, Kernels etc...

If you want clean and simple. Frost Rom.
If you want more to a ROM you willl have to look through each thread as there are a ton of great roms...Mik, Warm, Calk, Azrael, Fresh...etc

best is just an opinion
my sense rom choice is Miks rom's
or CM6 CM7 is having gps troubles

CM7 gps issue is easily solved by doing dialing ##gpsclrx# in a sense rom to reset the gps.
My answer to the op, my opinion cleanest Rom that's fully functional is Cm7 nightly 6 or higher, of course they're 2.3.2 and nightly 11 is 2.3.3 not 2.2.1 like was asked.

yes but thats not 100%

I would try MikFroy 4.2 if you like it plain. Also EViO 2, Ava, Azrael, Stock Turbo, Fresh and Sprint Lovers.

Wimax doesn't work on RC1, but became functional starting on like Nightly 6, I think.

If you download any nightly from build 6 and up, Wimax is implemented and working, I am currently running Nightly #11, Wimax works, GPS works(I had to use ##gpsclrx#), worked for me, but as they said doesn't work for everyone.
So basically If you want to load CM7 on her phone
1. Download the latest nightly http://mirror.kanged.net/nightly/supersonic/cm_supersonic_full-11.zip
2. Download gingerbread gapps http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip
3. download mslreader from the market, and write the number down.
4. open the dialer and type ##44772579# (this may or may not make your gps work on gingerbread, but it doesn't hurt to do it anyway)
5. Input the msl number that you wrote down
6. the phone will reboot, let it come all the way back up
7. Reboot to recovery
8. (Do this step twice to be safe) Wipe Data, Cache, and Dalvik-Cache(located under advanced for clockworkmod)
9. Flash CM7
10. Flash Gapps before booting into CM7 (found this has had the most success for me)
11. Enjoy Gingerbread with MOAR GEEEEEE's

whats the fastest wildfire rom at the minute? sense or no sense doesnt really matter? like cyanogen or something, my phone is really slow at the minute which is really annoying me
wild puzzle, put an overclocked kernal on and use SetCPU to overclock, that might speed your phone up a bit.
Thats what i would do.

It is probably a kernel issue. Try reusing HCDR.Kernel v4.1 from it's specific thread. Apart from that, you can try Openfire ROM as well, which is a completely vanilla AOSP build.
cold it be that rom manager didnt wipe properly? iv just manualy gone through and wiped everything and it hasnt crashed on me yet,
i thought the kernel would be flashed fresh from cm7?

Yes, it is always recommended to wipe it manually through the Recovery Menu. You have to wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and /system for best results before installing a new ROM.
As for the kernel, yes, it is included by default in CM7, but it is v4.2. Using v4.2 has caused some stability issues for some members, and, in that case, it is recommended to revert back to kernel v4.1
yeh thanks for that info, was a kernel issue i hope, all been goin good so far
strange, cause the only difference between 4.1 and 4.2 is the wifi driver.

Cm6 and Cm7 is a bit not very stable for me, have to reboot one or two times a day. Maybe I'll switch to other.
you are doing it wrong, cm7 is really stable. I m using nightly 19 for weeks without any problems.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Don't think so, do a wipe data, system, darkvik cache, flash #53, boot in, first time ADW FC. reboot, flash 4.1 kernel, boot again, ADW FC again
I can reproduce it everytime, lol
I used CM the last two weeks..
Yesterday I went to the new CM7 Rc1 then i moved to Openfire..
it's very stable and fast, even without setCPU.. i've just backup all my apps and it is wonderful..
The last cyanogen seems to be quite slow sometimes..

[Q] Cons of installing Roms

Specifically Ice Glacier and CM6 and 7.
I know the Pros but I searched all over the place and can't find some Cons. I know CM6 doesn't allow access to front facing camera. Is this true for 7 and Ice Glacier?
What other things might not work?
TIA
P.S. I am rooted. I just don't have the guts to Flash a rom yet.

I am running cm7 nightly #37 I think and the only thing that I am noticing is that my ringtones dont stick after I do a reboot. Other than that I use Tango and the front facing cam does work. I dont see any other things that are not working. I have been running this only for a couple days and maybe not seeing other things not working. All in all the rom is fast and I am loving some gingerbread!! Do a nandroid backup so you can always go back if you want.
There are zero cons to installing ROMs. CM7 is just fantastic.

Froyo vs Gingerbread, I think, but don't quote that as I don't run a CM ROM.
With any ROM you will roll the dice on what will/won't work for you. I have had absolutely zero issues using the Ice Glacier ROM in my sig. However, if you read recent posts in the thread for it, some people still experience issues with things like WiFi, slowdowns, battery drain, etc. Not all silicone is created equal. Just backup your current stuff and flash something to see how it works on your phone. Doesn't run well, has some issues? Pick a new ROM or restore backup.
cm 7 is based on Gingerbread -- Android 2.3. Numerous changes, Google for them.
Big con to any ROM...bricked phone through user error, user stupidity, user ignorance... Take your pick. The risk is low but it exists. Manage and mitigate it through careful study and a firm grasp of the procedures to be used.

It is extremely difficult to permanently brick your phone. The only way I know how to do it is to flash the wrong kind of radio, which you normally don't even have to worry about flashing.
Let's see... there's a thread in this very subforum where someone damaged the partition table of their internal flash drive, and lost /system, and could find no way to recover:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952272
The root cause may have been from pulling the battery at an inopportune moment, and the OP gave up before exhausting all options, but the phone is logically bricked.
Hardly any unless you're not careful with instructions. CM7 RC1 is fantastic.
Does anyone see problems with 4G coverage with a newer rom, or is HSDPA not a concern?

The stock ROM and those based on it do not differentiate between 3G and any faster network. All are indicated with an "H". CM displays UMTS as "3G".
HTC Glacier CM7 41
Only cons are you void your warranty and you could screw something up if you aren't careful. Playing around in non-userspace is only for the well-informed.
Arguably, you could consider it a con that your ROM isn't officially signed by the manufacturer/carrier and that it's not "official," but I don't see it that way. A good dev team like Cyanogen's is probably just as good, if not better, and they can roll out updates much much faster. Nightly, in fact
FWIW, I was one of the few who did experience problems when flashing (CM7 in my case). Each time I flashed, I would lose more and more functionality on the physical buttons on the front of the camera.
- First flash, "back" starts acting flaky (doesn't work sometimes, sometimes requires long-press to work).
- Second flash (to try to fix the problem), back button no longer works, "menu" is now flaky.
- Third flash, menu is gone. Somewhere in there the genius button also stopped working.
ClockworkMod Recovery's key test showed that the system wasn't even seeing the keypresses. Sounds like a hardware problem, I know, but the changes noted occurred only when I flashed. Also, when I reflashed with the stock MT4G ROM, I got the menu button back (but not the back button).
All that said, a) I searched high and low and couldn't find any reports of anything similar, and b) TMo switched the phone out with a new one with no questions asked.
It's not all user error, and it's not all hardware. It's a combination, and like others have said you have to try it out to see. If you read enough threads on this forum, you will find negatives about everything. Do the research so you know what not to do, and the rest is up to trial and error. The variables around which people judge ROMs are so complex that the vast majority of information is opinion. Just make sure you give any ROM a couple of days before you really form your own.
Biggest cons for me when I first started flashing ROMs on my old MT3G was that sometimes stuff wouldn't work. Wifi issues or GPS might be buggy or battery drain. 9/10 issues can be fixed with a reboot or just wait for the next nightly to arrive.
I love flashing ROMs. I'm on CM7 RC1 and before that was Nightly #35. I had my MT4G for 7hrs before it was rooted and CM7 on it.
You're already rooted and most of the time thats when people break their ****. So get Clockwork Mod and Nand backup, flash and rock out!!!!!!
Most of the "danger" is in the actual rooting process, flashing ROMs and mods can at most cause an inconvenience.
Any time the radio firmware or hboot (bootloader) is flashed or modified, that is where the danger of a true bricked device that can not be fixed occurs.

Current State of Functionality of EI22 Roms

There's no clear thread on the overall state of the EI22 roms.
so I figured I'd make one given i wasted 3 hours of my life I won't get back testing these.
Testing Methodology:
I updated to EI22 by using ODIN to flash the EI22 repack by noobnl.
Then I booted to CWM and flashed the EC05toEI22 modem.zip
On Installing each rom I followed these steps:
1. Flashed rom 2. Wiped Data/Factory Reset 3x. 3. Flashed rom again. 4. Sacrified a Goat to the Samsung Gods.
On testing/verifying GPS functionality I would make sure it would lock. Reboot the phone. check for a lock again. and play with toggling on and off the GPS seeing if I could make it crash.
On testing/verifying WIFI/3G/4G was performed with Speedtest to confirm data connection.
turning it off. turning it on again. and reverifying with speedtest.
1. noobnl's Pre-Rooted DEODEX EI22 Repack w/ EC05 Modem.
WORKING: DATA/3G/4G/GPS/WIFI
Not Working: Nothing I could find.
2. [ACS] ICS V2
WORKING: DATA/3G/4G/WIFI
NOT WORKING: **GPS**
Notes: Best Looking Rom, also heavily modified for performance but GPS no worky.
3. ERA's LegendaryROM EI22 Beta 3 Rom.
Working: DATA/3G/4G/GPS/WIFI
Not Working: Nothing I could find.
Notes: Fairly plain rom aesthetically, modified quite a bit for performance.
but it has full functionality.
This will be updated as I flash other roms. Please feel free to add your own experiences.
Glad I'm not the only one with the gps issue on the ICS rom. Might just pull his themed apps and put them in the ERA rom until I have mine done.

I've been wanting to do this for quite some time now actually. I love all the creativity of the ROMs and kernels coming down the pipe now, but I really don't like relying or waiting on others. I'd much rather do it myself. Only trouble is, even though I learn quickly, I have no real programming experience. I may have to just jump in though, as this is fascinating as hell to me.

[INFO] Preferred Setup for Vibrant

I have recently came into the Vibrant community, coming from the MyTouch 4G community, and all I can say is that this phone is so much better, except the 4G portion.
For the past 3 days, I have been flashing over and over, different ROMs, kernels, etc. I just wanted to post the best setup that I believe is the fastest and most stable for this phone:
ROM - CyanogenMod 7.1.0.1
KERNEL - 2.6.35.14 EB-Streamline
GPS FIX - Yet Another GPS Fix (YAGF) Version 2
RECOVERY - ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7
BOOTLOADER - Gingerbread Bootloader

ROM- ICS PASSION
Kernel - Streamline - eugene373's
Bootloader: GB
Thats the best i've had.
Not only does it give the best GPS and battery life, its also the newest firmware, which I love the new UI.
I get around a day of battery life on light - medium-wise moderate usage, and GPS works all day long for me, there are infact some issues, it is BETA Like Mute/unmute issue, which I think is the ONLY major issue left.

Is this an actual ICS 4.0.3 ROM, or is it just a modified Gingerbread ROM to look like it? Because I've looked at many other threads for ICS development, and there are very few that operate at a level this one claims. Actually, I just installed Passion 10.6, and it uses Trebuchet 0.1 launcher, not the stock launcher.....but, this ROM is amazing, my new daily driver. My new setup:
ROM: ICS Passion v10.6
KERNEL: 3.0.15-ICUP ICS-Streamline
RECOVERY: ClockworkMod 5.5.0.2
BOOTLOADER: Gingerbread Bootloader

Mine's a little different:
ROM: ICS Passion v10.6
KERNEL: 3.0.8_ICS_Passion-Vibrant-g0143457-dirty
RECOVERY: ClockworkMod 5.5.0.2
BOOTLOADER: Gingerbread Bootloader
Just flashed to v10.6, but my last v10 flash lasted me over 2 days on battery! This ROM is amazing!

After rooting your phone

Hello,
I have few questions to ask here in the community regarding rom and kernels.
1. Which Rom do you guys recommend that works without any problems (beside cyanogenmod)?
2. If Cyanogenmod which one do you recommend stable or nightly?
3. Which Kernel should i use after rooting my phone that works correctly and has no problems?
Please share with me some of your thoughts and opinions.

1. If you want a 100% working rom with a lot of support go with classic and mikg
2. I don't use cyanogenmod
3.you could stick with stock or try out one of the lionfish kernels. I recommend you use stock voltage one for now

Mikg make sure you download full wipe version http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012
classic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312414

never tried classic, but mikeG is 100% great rom, i need to try out new kernals myself
Myn's Warm series have always been very smooth and stable for me. I'm not going to give you a link, you can find it yourself in the Dev section.
Energy 2/6/12 rom is awesome... nice and smooth pretty much bug free. can be a bit hefty on the internal storage, but with dt a2sd and dalvik on sd card its not bad.

I second this. Wife wanted an iPhone, I wasn't having that. She got an Evo and complained since day one....until this build of MIUI. She is overjoyed now. I've flashed a lot of stuff on mine and am very happy with the look and feel. Much better than any Sense based ROM I have tried by far and doesn't look like any other Android build without heavy customization. Just runs nicely out out of the box.
Doesn't have 4g but I never turned it on anyway.
