Hello,
I have few questions to ask here in the community regarding rom and kernels.
1. Which Rom do you guys recommend that works without any problems (beside cyanogenmod)?
2. If Cyanogenmod which one do you recommend stable or nightly?
3. Which Kernel should i use after rooting my phone that works correctly and has no problems?
Please share with me some of your thoughts and opinions.

1. If you want a 100% working rom with a lot of support go with classic and mikg
2. I don't use cyanogenmod
3.you could stick with stock or try out one of the lionfish kernels. I recommend you use stock voltage one for now

never tried classic, but mikeG is 100% great rom, i need to try out new kernals myself
Myn's Warm series have always been very smooth and stable for me. I'm not going to give you a link, you can find it yourself in the Dev section.
Energy 2/6/12 rom is awesome... nice and smooth pretty much bug free. can be a bit hefty on the internal storage, but with dt a2sd and dalvik on sd card its not bad.

I second this. Wife wanted an iPhone, I wasn't having that. She got an Evo and complained since day one....until this build of MIUI. She is overjoyed now. I've flashed a lot of stuff on mine and am very happy with the look and feel. Much better than any Sense based ROM I have tried by far and doesn't look like any other Android build without heavy customization. Just runs nicely out out of the box.
Doesn't have 4g but I never turned it on anyway.

Ok I rooted last night and it's much easier than I thought! I'm not savvy with modifying stuff but it went pretty much without a hitch!
I have a few questions that I did search for but I didn't come up with any results that answer them... maybe I didn't word my phrases correctly...
I am using Ava froyo and like it, however cyanogen sounds cool with no sense and all. But I'm reading that it's AOSP. I know that means android open source, but can I still install it?
Also, what's the difference between 6.1 and 6.1 nightly?
Sorry for being such a NOOB but hey... I'ma noob!
Yes you can install it and the difference between 6.1 and 6.1 nightly is he comes out with a nightly every few days or weeks(this is tested by beta testers) that has bug fixes taken care of new features and things that he wasnt able to get to work before like 4G. Hope this helps!
[EDIT] Also if you decide to flash cyanogens rom it will replace the rom you are running which is Ava Froyo. I have also never been a fan of AOSP roms because I love Sense but I am sure they are faster due to the fact that sense is not incorrporated in the ROM. I have also heard that cyanogens is going to have some pretty kick ass features on his next rom like HDMI out unlocked.

So which would you recommend? The most recent nightly? Or do I install the regular one and then the nightly?
Also, I do understand that it will replace Ava froyo. I've been following the noob root guide to the letter! Lol
Thank you Adam
the most recent nightly (12/17) its the best until cm7 starts
nightly link http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?type=nightly&device=supersonic
and don't forget to flash gapps after the rom http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed.zip
if u wanna give a non aosp rom a shot, try mikfroyo 4.1 with netarchy's 4.2.2 kernal...very, very fast and smooth, plus ya got the 4g and hdmi out if that matters to you, you can also flash calkulins remove sense zip
I heard for newer hardware aosp has some camera and 4g issues and etc? correct?

Not a problem. I am also very new to this stuff and have alot of noobish questions. Everyone here (for the most part) are very helpful, so if I can pass it on I will!
Ok I was browsing the forums and saw my post was back up near the top. Just thought I'd update... I am now using the latest Cyanogen with gapps and am absolutely loving it. I can't say it enough, it's just amazing!
It's so customizable, so... excellent!
I'm testing out battery life, which is important to me, and so far it seems to be great!!
I wish I had done this sooner!!

Isnt this **** a blast! Your battery life is going to be amazing compared to stock!
All that matters to me is speed, stability and battery life.
I have been running Darkys 9.2 for a long time now, but the battery life is getting to be very poor, so looking to try out something new.
Appart from the battery life if has been rock solid to date.
Any advice is welcome

In my opinion, there isn't a perfect rom in this world which matches your description. However, if I were to choose one, I would choose Cyanogenmod 7. It is currently on Nightly, but it is stable enough for daily usage. Battery life is not that good, but its speed complements it, combined with loads of customisations available.
I hope that helps, mate

So why not flash stock odexed JVQ without any modifactions?
Try s.u.f.a.ce rom .Its a base rom with addons I installed the base and manually extracted and installed what I wanted from the addons. Almost a build your own without being a developer. Fastest rom ive tried with best battery because its light

Ive tried a bunch, I only flashed this ROM cuz Sam ported a theme I liked ended up liking the ROM since its a barebones ROM
Other then that ROM Id go with just a stock JVQ, Ive always fallen back to the stock ROMs after not liking something about the customs I installed
Thanks guys will give s.u.r.f.a.c.e a shot!
Just out of interest, does it have a lagfix like Darkys rom?
Cyanogen's battery issues are keeping me away from it for now.
I have it on my wife's wildfire and its a completely new animal since I flashed it.

F1 Galaxy S2 V6
no battery drain and smooth with galaxianEE2.4 kernel
GingerReal 7.1.4 , Semaphore 1.3.3. kernel, works briliant-e.
Search: Android Development topic
Stock is the best...
In the past weeks i tested several roms and kernels.
Roms: GingerReal 7.1.4, Surface 2.1, Juwe 5.2, CM7, Darky 10.2
Kernel: Speedmod, Galaxian, Semaphore
For me the best pair is Darkys Rom with the semaphore kernel on EXT4.
I never had such a smooth, speedy and long battery usage on any rom/kernel.
Hi, I'm fairly new to the whole rooting Android and custom roms but I've got the basics down. I'm just wanting to know some good custom roms that are pretty much stock roms but with extras in the menus and everything like CM7, also any good rooting apps, etc.

Lot of people from florida for some reason. I can suggest a CM7 or if you want, a sense 3.0 rom. You really just have to go through the roms yourself and find one that you like personally.
I'm currently using CM 7.1 but have tried OMGB, MiKG, Fresh, and most of them I've just reverted back to the stock because certain main features don't work well etc. I've also tried a few not listed on Rom Manager by Clockwork Mod but half of them don't install properly or just work great on the EVO.
A tidbit of advice: Get rid of rom manager, if you want I can link you to my thread where I have a script to flash Amon_ra for you and everything. Rom manager and CWM are terrible on the Evo. So if you want that let me know.
Anyway, there will be bugs and you might just like AOSP in which case, stick with CM7 (I use 7.0.3.1 just because of the battery drain issues I heard about from CM7.1
Alright, let me get that link and I'll check it out.
link is here
ROM Manager and CWM work just fine on my EVO. I've never had a problem with a ROM or backup or anything with either of them. I don't use ROM Manager to flash new ROMs, but I do use it to download MIUI updates. Don't necessarily take one person's opinion as a definite. Don't use ROM Manager to install ROMs though, that will most likely give you problems. Do it the old-fashioned way.

Yes, but only after 1.8.19, which I just upgraded to...I was sticking with 1.8.5 for a while b/c it was very stable on my phone. But yes, you can upgrade now without using ROM Manager.
You can't go wrong with deck rom

So I'm finally a proud owner of an HD2 (again..) Anyway... The rom I bought the phone with isn't the most stable from what I can tell, "BOYPPC_SENSE 3.0 STOCK V7 0.5 OCTOBER". Or at least it's just not fit to my standards..So I'd like to know whats the best ROM to use, for every day use? I was thinking of CM7, since I've always loved the quality ROMs produced by them, but I'm just not sure..
ALSO...Before I brick my HD2 (again), can someone give me the STEP BY STEP instructions on how to install whatever ROM through my SD card? I do NOT want to ruin a phone again so I'm taking major precautions.. Please just dont link me to a thread and say "here".. I just want some instructions from a fellow XDA and HD2 owner as myself.. Thanks guys..Rep to whoever helps me out with this
do you have mgldr or clk in your phone?

Pretty much all aosp gingerbread ROM's without sense are stable and fast. They can be used as daily builds with almost all features working flawlessly. CM7 builds give much more customization and options, but often are not as stable. For the best battery life I would suggest a gingerbread build with noting on it (no CM7 or sense)

try it yourself... mileage will vary. Recalibrate your battery too.
Sucks there is only 1 GB kernel (non CM7/Miui) that has working GPS..and its showing its age. Only thing holding me back.
Wish Cmenard wold share his knowledge to the other devs to get gps working.
Which one is that? Does simply stock have functional GPS?

cmenards JVP Bullet GB voodoo kernel is the only non CM7/Miui GB Kernel that has gps working.
shall I try simply stock with bullet kernel

Why isnt this in vibrant bible
Isn't simply stock relatively new? I think the vibrant Bible isn't quite as up too date as it used too be. Let us know how it worlds out. I've been curious about that combo myself. I'm on CM7 with streamline and GPS could be a bit more reliable. Wish they could add GPS to talon kernel.
