Hi,
I have recently made a RotoBackup of my Tab.
It is rooted by superoneclick on stock firmware.
During a scan of my PC by Kaspersky, it found a Trojan in the backup data.rfs files .
Do you think it is a false-positive coming from rooting the tab ? Can someone check on his backups ?
Regards
What is the name of the trojan found? Did you google it to find out any details about it? Is the found trojan an android trojan?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
It is Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.g considered as Trojan by Kaspersky.
His type is intrusion on distant devices.
it is located in /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage
I googled and it seems to be coming from z4root, that I installed but never used.
Can that be the reason for removal of z4root from android market ?
Nahh no reason to report this, i suspect this is reported by the AV due to the fact that root is obtained through using an exploit... I dont think you haveto worry about this....

My problem was that I would download SuperOneClick and it would not give me actual root. The SuperUser icon was in my app drawer but if I tried to use any apps that required root access they wouldnt let me. When I opened Super Manager and clicked "Enable Root Access" a popup would come up and it would say something like "Your ROOT image will not work" or something like that.
The problem was this:
I found out that I had downloaded the most recent version of SuperOneClick. This version will not give root if you had the official 2.2. update. You needed to download the 1.5.5 version.
I hope this will help anyone who made the same mistake as me.
anybody? im freaking out since no one else has had this problem.
Try enable USB debugging
Settings > Applications > USB Debugging > Enable.
You should repost the OP with the solution in case someone else has the problem, if not people will search in vain.

good idea. Ill do it now.
Thanks alecjake, I am on ka6 and have heard there were issues with the latest SuperOneClick. Odd that an older version can root froyo but the newer version can't. Very helpful advice.

Not helpful at all. Did you even read the OP? Trying to get that post count higher with meaningless drivel?

One thing you also want to do, is after using superoneclick is to reboot. That way root actually works.

I also have problems with rooting my andriod, I ran Titanium Backup but it required root access to work, so I downloaded z4root and universal root apk, it says that my phone is rooted but still Titanium Backup cant detect any root access.
Also my Link2sd App(app2sd alike) also requires root, I think I rooted my phone but still doesn't work. A noob like me really need your help guys.. thanks in advance..
BTW i am running 1.6 andriod firmware.
Easiest way I've found is to use AIO Vibrant Toolbox. I'm on my phone so I can't link it but just go to the development section and look for the post with the program name in the thread title. It's super easy to root with it. Just follow the included directions!

1.6? do you have a t959 vibrant? if you do, you need to get to stock 2.1 JFD, then you can follow these instructions:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/605-guide-root-odin-clean-metamorph-swype-tricks-ninja-apps-everything/
or go with the AIO toolbox which is more user friendly
Apologies if there are similar threads.
I am looking for an 'easy way' to root my GALAXY Tab. I have used the android z4root application but it didn't successfully root my device and just hung for a while and did nothing.
I would like to know if there is another way to root the device. I want to have root so that I can slightly overclock the CPU, for now I am not majorly interested in custom ROMS as I know there still in early stages of development.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks peeps!
Same here. Z4root crashes on my device with latest firmware
I installed the tools with OCLF one click lag fix then ran z4root. You can also install busy box with Titanium before you get root.

Thanks, but is there no tutorial on XDA that explains in detail how you can go about rooting your device. I've not be able to find anything with the search tool...?
With z4root being so easy and available on so many devices, alot of the tutorials with adb push (or what ever) or how to manually root have disappeared with few exceptions. Now it seems people find work arounds to Get z4root to work as the alternative is more difficult. It took a very long time to root on my SGT. On my DroidX it took three times to work and root.
And to the poster above about OCLF. I did the Install ext2Tools. The OneClickLagFixv2.2+ became available. When I run the OCLF 2.2+ I get an error with code: Could not mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 onto /dbdata/rfsdata: mount: device or resource Busy.
I rooted with z4root first and then VZW Tab bootstraper by Koush CWM which converted to EXT4, then I ran OCLF EXT2Tools. Would this be an issue? Sorry I'm a bit new to SGT.
And I don't mean to hijack thread. Tia

Check the sticky in the tab dev section
Thankyou! Found it in the reference Bible. That is a very nice sticky and should keep me busy.

Im hesitant about rooting my phone or not. If I root my phone, I think the bad guys could stole my information or do bad things to my device.
Or maybe when some app for example root explorer needs admin rights android will ask for them (like windows 7)?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Rooting a phone gives you 'administrative' rights similar to on a PC, it gives you more control over the phone and allows access to system files which would usually be hidden if you was not rooted.
Rooting is easy and is reversible. it is not dangerous and quite a lot of apps require root access.

Yes you will be prompted by the superuser app.
Thanks. But if you are not root when you buy sgs, why can you install new apps that if im correct go to the data folder (root required)?

When you first buy your phone you CAN'T install Apps that require root access... you need to root your phone first.
Most Apps don't require root as they aren't installed in the Ram but on the internal SD card. This is the same Ram vs flash memory arrangement that has been used with mobile devices since the Palm Pilot.

I am not sure I understand this or its right or wrong. Am just confused about this
However to the OP question. Installing from the market/app isn't the same as you copying the file yourself. So your question is pointless. If a process/app/mechanism already has access to it, like the market what is has to do with you not being rooted in the beginning?
The bad guys that came with the rooting of my phone, made my phone 10 times faster and smoother..
So I love those little bad guys!
rooting is the first step to a new world... welcome
I've never posted on any forum (anywhere) before, so feel free to correct my etiquette.
I am trying to root my DroidX. When I downloaded z4mod to my PC, Windows Security Essentials found "Exploit:Unix/Lotoor". I checked to remove the threat and noticed that it left the file "z4root.1.3.0.apk" on my computer so I transfered it to my Droids sd card. I then used Astro File Manager to install it. When I went to run z4mod, AVG says the App com.z4mod.z4root is malicious. I suspect that it is based on its root access, but never the less I'm a noobie and unsure if I should proceed?
Most rooting software will come up as a virus. Mostly they come up is trojans. So you'll probably fine. I would stick with superoneclick for rooting. I did it with my x. If you need any other help I have Posts about restoring and rooting and roms just search z4cell in google first link. Sorry I cant post links being a noob to this site.
Thanks a bunch!

I have found a way to easily unroot galaxy tab by simple apk without any loss for data or the need to flash stock rom again, the apk is gingerbreak, install it and choose unroot and wait for it to reboot, and now you are unrooted with one click
Note : this app is not mine it is for a famous developer and i got it from android apps forum and tested it

Not readily a guide. Should probably be in the apps section.
Can't wait to see what happens when someone uses it. My tab came with stock honeycomb not gingerbread so waiting to see just what happens.

The biggest reason to wait is I don't need to unroot my tab.
But if I did it would probably only be for warranty coverage where I would want the software to match the actual stock version it came with, maybe a later version due to ota updates, but wouldn't use this and risk them asking me why my tab has older software on it than it was shipped with. They'd surely realize I could have only accomplish that by rooting and unrooting thus voiding my warranty and them knowing it.
Could probably wait for the updates to be pushed, but it would take me less time to unroot manually using the correct version to begin with.
Probably a great app for those needing it for some specific reason.
Just personally of little use. No offense.
