GFree - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi all,
I need to get hold of Gfree 0.2 and Gfree verify 0.1 to root & s-off a friend's phone, but the site http://www.thinkthinkdo.com has been down all day.
Could someone upload them for me please?
Thanks!

Is there a thread discussing gfree? I tried to run it to get a full permanent radio S-OFF on my Desire Z (which was already perm-rooted using the old Visionary method) but it hasn't worked.

That is what I followed last night to get S-OFF, ROOT and SIM-UNLOCK. Worked perfectly. You need to have permroot first tho, then i think this method re-roots it with another method.

Yeah, that's what I followed. I've got normal permroot, but the last gfree bit didn't seem to work.

all of the how to's are exactly the same. just different information in each one.
I unrooted my phone and followed This Walk-though and it worked perfectly. no if/ands/buts about it.
If that seems to complicated you can always follow The Unlockr's method it's REALLY simple and easy to follow.

G2: is there a one click perm root?

Is there something like unrEVOked out? I really like how easy it is to root on a EVO and how any unexperienced person can root there phone without much hassle.
HTC seriously ramped up the security on the Vision (G2 and Desire Z). It's not a one-click thing to root, sorry. But it's not hard if you follow the instructions carefully.

Also: don't be tempted by visionary. It has a very high chance of failure aka bricking your phone!!!

Nope there are none. Well you can easily prem root your phone with s-off pretty easily without adb. You should read android development section. i used the old way of getting s-off cause its the fastest way... but if you want the safest way gfree method will do.
Follow the guide on the WIKI of XDA. It's simple and easy. I got it and it's my first time rooting anything. Just read everything carefully and good luck!
Also, if it makes you feel any better, I also read that the method posted on the WIKI page results in very few bricked devices (if any at all for that matter!). Go for it!
Does anyone know what version of ADB/SU should be used to Root the new Desire Z OTA Update? And if this is possible wo Downgrade? I see the Wiki is not too updated

Any version of adb.

If you are talking about the 1.72 OTA then you can use psneuter to get root, rage won't work at that level. That assumes you already have used gfree at a previous version to get radio S-OFF. Otherwise you have to downgrade.

its okay if you want TEMP
Easy enough to do if you take your time, and well worth it. I had never used ADB before but following along slowly got it to work (took a while to figure out to move all the files I wanted to 'push' into the adb directory!); and although I lost all my games progress (the horror of having to start Angry Birds over again!), I got back all my texts etc. from Google after moving back up to 1.72. There are backup programs in the market that should backup your apps if you want also.
Well worth it if you need root for MarketEnabler like I did; ClockworkMod is nice too for backing up.

Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886023 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
Once you have got s-off and you upgrade again to 1.72 follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10574813&postcount=329 (read from post 301 if you have changed your recovery image) to re-root.
You could always write a script to make it automatic, bundle it with the neccesary files, and share it.

Q: gfree and rage root

I'm thinking about rooting my gf's glacier and have read the wiki regarding the methods to use, it appears similar to the G2 visionary plus gfree method,i however used the gfree and rage exploit instead so I was wondering could I do the same with the glacier? Its not covered in the wiki so I'm reluctant to do so, any help is appreciated!

This is best method for rooting ones MyTouchHD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
They are rooted slightly differently. The files are not exactly the same.
I would definitely use the above link. A week ago I had no idea what rooting was, and I used that link and followed the directions to the T. It was a great walk through and it worked perfectly.
thanks for the replies guys! i will just go ahead and stick to what the wiki says, and as for the link mentioned above is that the preferred method?
I don't know if it is the preferred method by everyone, but it definitely is for me, since it worked great. I followed the instructions in the link neidlinger posted to a tee, and it worked exactly as stated. I had a factory fresh Glacier with 2.2.1 on it and this method worked perfect. I now have permanent root and with no issues whatsoever.
after more reading it appears i can use the gfree + rage method! but it is known as the cyanogenmod way when it comes to this phone.
question, i rooted my mt4g i think before that thread was published so i used visionary to get temp and perm root.
is my device rooted the same as this method? i know i dont have the sim unlocked like my G2 is via using the gfree but is it still just as good?
i just installed cyanogenmod 7nightly 8 on it and it seems to be running ok. i havent played with it tho as it is not my primary device anymore (went to a G2).
if so, can Gfree root still be done? can i still do the gfree method on the phone with a terminal emulator like i did on the G2 because i cannot get ADB to install or recognize a phone on my computer at all.

If you read the title in the thread it explains that you should still do it and why. Also you can check out my adb thread in the dev section or in my signature for a easy 5 minute setup. There is a video too. And yes you can do it with terminal emulator too.

[Q] Visionary root with bad emmc? (Not Noob)

Hey guys I'm back from the MT4GS forums on behalf of my bro,
So he's visiting from college, and he wanted me to root his phone. So I checked his emmc before I started and he had the bad one
well I know there is no thought of even using gfree (what i used). So could I use Visionary or maybe even Revolutionary?
I have a bad chip and when I tried to root with visonary using the root. Sh method it didn't work I Don know it mite work for u depends if not your best bet is the gfree method and hope he has a good bad emmc

"Not noob" and your post don't go well together.
Visionary is a method of achieving temp-root under 2.2.1. Doesn't work under 2.3.4.
Gfree or root.sh are methods for achieving perm-root. They also don't work under 2.3.4.
When rooting "bad" chip, root.sh method will not work with >99% probability. You can only root "bad" chip with gfree.
If you read some more ("recently discovered dangers" thread in Development, and another zillion of threads in General and Q&A with the same annoying questions), you'll discover that gfree ISN'T the cause of failure for "bad" chips.
To use gfree, you'll most probably need to downgrade. Read the relevant thread in G2 section. Link - in Glacier Wiki, under "Root", "Gingerbread".
btw I was able to Root my Bro's MT4G with visionary r14 on the perm root option and It is still working fine today....
Perm root on visionary does not work unless you're S-Off.
With the "bad chip" there is no way to get S-Off without gfree.

[Q] Is there any way to root 2.3.4?

By the way 2.3.4 is Gingerbread, I have a MyTouch 4G, and I have the stock ROM from T-Mobile update on it. My question is, is there anyway to root 2.3.4?
[Not Edited, but thought I should add] If there is no way to root 2.3.4, I will downgrade to 2.3.3. (If someone wants to help me with that, please, I will be glad)
Giving everyone a thanks just for commenting. Thanks in advance.

Fine, guy. I did research, just wanted to see if there is any current ways, because everything I read is from 2011 about Gingerbread not having any roots for 2.3.4. Guest ill just downgrade, thank you anyways.
And you downgrade to 2.2.1....we didn't receive a 2.3.3 update.

you must downgrade to 2.2.1 froyo
there are "methods" to root from 2.3.4 but all don't work or will brick your phone.
most of them are the one click methods which you should avoid anyway.
downgrading only takes a sec just follow this thread to downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
then this one to root

After doing that, how do you get back to 2.3.4 without losing root privileges?
You install custom recovery and flash a pre-rooted 2.3.4 ROM.
There's always an option to remove HBOOT from the 2.3.4 PD15IMG.ZIP and flash it through HBOOT, and then install a custom recovery and flash su.zip in it. But it's a bit more complicated.

download a custom gingerbread rom
here is one that's pretty popular;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504718
If you are S-Off
Grab Froyo 2.2.1 zip from this forum. Make sure it is called PD15IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sdcard
Shut phone off & boot into HBoot (vol down + pwr button)
Have it load the PD15IMG.zip file and once its done your phone will be back to running Froyo.
Now grab Visionary+ & root.rar (from this forum) & a terminal emulator & a file explorer.
Put visonary+.apk on your sdcard and run it via file explorer for temp root
Extract root.sh to /sdcard/root
now load up terminal emulator and type:
su
cd /sdcard/root
sh root.sh
Let it run (takes a minute sometimes)
Once that is done go back to Visionary+ and "Perm root" reboot and you should have perm root.
Now just Clockword Rom manager and you can flash whatever ICS rom you want. (running CM9-unofficial personally)
I wish i could remove a thanks.
This will only work if the phone has a good eMMC chipset. If they have a bad one. it will not work.
