but any droid operating system whether it be froyo or gingerbread
my 3g/data doesn't work but have no probs with wifi or making calls
no internet or market apps obviously.
Please help !
i have all kinds of trouble with most non sense builds with the apn settings not working until i manually edit them.

settings - wireless and network - mobile networks - access point names
in there are one, some or many APN's (acess point names)
Its a full page to explain everything, just find out what your settings are, and have a play, and a damned good read on here. after you make a change, press start and choose save, else it wont change till you soft reset. sometimes it seems not to change anyway till you reset.
if you are testing mms and a pic gets stuck on 'sending', , they generally never go, even when you finally get the settings right, so ditch it and send another.

Does anyone how to change the name of the phone?
For instance, in WinMo, I could change it to "Ferret's Phone" and other devices and (home) network would see it as that. With the Android builds, it shows as "android-(string of number)". I've tried looking through all the settings, but I couldn't find anything.
You can change the name in your Bluetooth settings there it has phone name.

AH! I never use BlueTooth, and esp didn't bother with it sense it wasn't working in Froyo.
And just tried it. WiFi router still sees it as "android-(string of numbers). Didn't work. :/
I have searched around and I couldn't find anyone that has mentioned this before. If you really want the JI6 and don't want to use Kies and when you hit the "software update button" it shows "no firmware" I found a way to force it.
*****JI6 bricks a lot of phones. rooted or unrooted... so be careful! I would unroot and remove any lagfixes just to be safe. **DUMMY PROOF INSTRUCTIONS!**
If you already have launcher pro:
1) goto your homescreen.
2) menu key, add.
3) hit shortcuts and then activities.
4) scroll down to device management
5) select "com.wssyncmldm.wssAppDmUiMain" and hit ok
6) this will put a shortcut on your homescreen that will say device management with blue and red arrows.
7) open that shortcut up and hit software update.
if you don't have launcher pro or don't know what it is.
1) goto the market.
2) search "Launcher Pro" or "Federico Carnales"
3) look for a yellow icon with a house on it.
4) install that.
5) once installed hit your homekey. select launcherpro but don't select use as default until you fall in love with launcherpro ;]
6) then, follow the steps above

however i was messing around in the settings of that shortcut... and it apears that you can mess with the DM server connection settings and you can mess with a bunch of stuff... so maybe if you change the APN to whatever carrier you are using it would work??
Try it. follow my steps above. goto settings then DM connection settings and edit the network profile apn settings.

I tried this on my vibrant and it tels me there is no update available. I have followed the instructions to a T, so I am wondering if anyone has had trouble getting this to work?

It works :]
This might lead to other cool stuff down the road as well... there are some really cool settings in that shortcut. you can change it to "lab" and "production" profile... so maybe we can get a leaked froyo a little early??

yes!!!!!!!! I got the Update and good to go now. It took more than one try. Just keep trying to get the Update. Make sure you have 3G. It seemed to work when i had 3G

Same thing here! I am completely new on this.
What's launcher pro? I have the American Vibrant but I am using in Germany. Would it work?
This worked for me. Good post. Downloaded Launcher Pro from the market (Free), and then followed these directions. Immediately my 3G arrows were working overtime, and withing 3min I had the OTA available message.

the wssappdmuimain is the first shortcut. Just select it and say ok. It should place a shortcut on your home screen that says device management with a blue and red arrow. Then open that shortcut and hit software update.
Maybe in blind but where is the activities shortcut?

Followed intructions to the T. I would suggest doing it over WIFI.
I click on the shortcut and received the update in less than 2 mins.
Installation over WIFI took 4 mins. Hung at the S screen for 3 mins.
Kept all setting and apps, everything works. GPS locked onto 8 out of 12 sats in less than 10 seconds.
3g signal is increased, wifi signal seems to be increased as well..

The list is alphabetical... so... yeah. right under Daily briefing and DataCreate...

Well didnt work for me . I hit software update... the same arrow appear on the top of my phone but they disappeared like in 3 secs! Nothing happened afterwards.
As I have said, does anyone has idea if this would work being overseas? I have the American version, because I bought in NY on Craiglist... But right now I am in Germany.

Try this. homescreen > menu key > settings > wireless and network > mobile networks > access point names
What does it say? whatever is selected and if your data is working... write down that APN.
THEN. if you still have the device management shortcut on your homescreen. go into that. select settings then network profile then for the APN change it to whatever you are currently using for your german carrier.
let me know if this works. if it does not and you need to revert the settings the tmobile apn is: epc.tmobile.com

Most common fix for that is to make sure that your apn settings are correct for your network.
Can't get online with wifi... boot to windows mobile phone, disable wifi and reboot to Android... you should then be able to enable without "error " in either settings of through a widget (a least that's what I found after tearing hair out.
Once there, I found myself with a perfect Android( build until camera works on HD builds, at which point I'll probably change to one of them).

So my MT4G does not want to show my number under about phone, i sometimes use Tikl but now i cant. Does any one know how to fix this maybe an app so i can set my number?
i also had this problem on my mytouch 3g slide but after installing a ROM i had the optiong to set my number, Maybe one of the current ROMS for the MT4G have this option? if yes please tell me.

I know its not a big deal but it still helps to use certain apps.

Sure it does when the app uses your # to link to your know contacts with the app so u don't have to register with yet another user name and password. Idk what rom your running, but go into call settings and additional,settings and put your # there
I am currently running stock, i know about that additional information but it doesn't seem to be there in the stock ROM :S, that is why i was asking if it is there with any of the other ROMs such as glacier or cm6/7
Cm6 and 7 does bro. I didn't have to do it on stock. Shrug

Someone already mentioned this and i already knew about it but the stock ROM does not have this option

Hello,ive succesfully installed a custom android romof my choice and everything works great.Until i reveived a pic from somebody.When i open it,its blurry and cant see the pic barely,is there a fix for this?I tried searching the forums,but it gave me a message saying,search the forums in 20-30 minutes.Passed those mins and still the same message.Anybody?

the first method(link)did not work,and i have no custom user agent in handcent,i still have the same problem,any other suggestions?

for the settings change, do it under the default messaging app. menu > settings > custom user-agent and then choose nokia n95. worked for me.
Doesn't work for me, either, though I changed to Nokia N95 :/
