Does anyone how to change the name of the phone?
For instance, in WinMo, I could change it to "Ferret's Phone" and other devices and (home) network would see it as that. With the Android builds, it shows as "android-(string of number)". I've tried looking through all the settings, but I couldn't find anything.
You can change the name in your Bluetooth settings there it has phone name.

AH! I never use BlueTooth, and esp didn't bother with it sense it wasn't working in Froyo.
And just tried it. WiFi router still sees it as "android-(string of numbers). Didn't work. :/

Most common fix for that is to make sure that your apn settings are correct for your network.
Can't get online with wifi... boot to windows mobile phone, disable wifi and reboot to Android... you should then be able to enable without "error " in either settings of through a widget (a least that's what I found after tearing hair out.
Once there, I found myself with a perfect Android( build until camera works on HD builds, at which point I'll probably change to one of them).

that it works
but any droid operating system whether it be froyo or gingerbread
my 3g/data doesn't work but have no probs with wifi or making calls
no internet or market apps obviously.

i have all kinds of trouble with most non sense builds with the apn settings not working until i manually edit them.

settings - wireless and network - mobile networks - access point names
in there are one, some or many APN's (acess point names)
Its a full page to explain everything, just find out what your settings are, and have a play, and a damned good read on here. after you make a change, press start and choose save, else it wont change till you soft reset. sometimes it seems not to change anyway till you reset.
if you are testing mms and a pic gets stuck on 'sending', , they generally never go, even when you finally get the settings right, so ditch it and send another.

I've had my wildfire now for around 8 months, ive had lot of different roms, radios and Kernels. if i'm being honest it got myself in a right mess with it all and i dont know what on my phone no more! I just need a little bit of help from someone showing me a good rom (i would like to use cm7) but what Kernel and radio to use with it.

CM7 comes with a nice kernel that is OCable from the start, so no need to flash a new one.
As for the radio, you should only re-flash it if GPS doesn't work. (http://rom.tat.tw/wildfire/wildpuzzlerom/radio/Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10.zip)

What is the issue. It works. Receiving APk files is some issue I think. If so rename apk to zip and transfer it to wildfire. Then use file manager on wildfire to rename it to apk again.
Also using "Bluetooth file transfer" application is good.

I am already using that app, it's just that I can't get my phone to send any file (whatever the extension is) to my MAC. If I go to 'Bluetooth devices', I get 'paired, but not connected' right underneath the paired device's name.

Maybe the issue with that Mac.
With that app, I can share my entire sdcard contents to PC over FTP.

Bluetooth pairing doesnt seem to work. Its stuff that you cant use third party apps for. Like headsets and streaming media over bluetooth.

Is there anyone out there who can please tell me how do I change my Galaxy S II's name so my wifi will register the customized name rather than just simply "unknown"? Everyone else's device has been renamed.
Well the one way you can do it is with Terminal Emulator on rooted phone.
su
busybox hostname "the name you want"
but this will probably reset on phone restart
alternatively you can write script to be run by Autostart (Root) on every bootup.

Not that I'm aware off
I connected the phone to my wi-fi, then went to the router's settings page, displayed the network map and changed the name of the phone on there. Not a perfect solution but better than nothing.

Well... I just found that if one connects it to Kies, we can change the device name like we do on Windows Explorer. Not sure if it will come up properly in the routers wifi summary.

So has anyone used this app since the 3.2 update? From what I can see, it has more capabilities to available then I seem to remember from before(though I could be wrong) and the sim slot can read sim cards now(at least it read my T-Mobile sim card). I did change my network in the settings to GSM/UTMS/EvDO/CDMA and in the phone information test area it now says GSM/CDMA Auto PRL just like my Nexus S does on T-Mobile, even after rebooting. Sadly I don't know if this even matters, or if all the changeable settings would allow the use of GSM. Nor do I know enough to attempt to make this work. Just thought I'd share my "findings", and if they are in fact useless I'm sorry for wasting peoples time.

Hold the volume up and down buttons as you turn the xoom on. You will see cold booting linux in the top left of the screen, followed by,more text like LTE off. Once the xoom is finished booting, in the app drawer there will be a Field Utils app with the Motorola logo. The codes will be 000000

using a wifi only model. the unit has the field utils app however the six zeroes (000000) do not work for the spc password.
Yeah i saw this in the app list but never knew what it was. Cant do anything with it and dont see the apk in the usual directories. Dont think wifi only version would be able to get the cell network working as type hardware for it should be missing. Maybe there is hardware somewhere and maybe some day there may be guide how to install it and get it working.

had the same issue myself, tried all 5's as some websites said it was, also nothing.

yes when i get into the radio part it runs tests and says "CANT FIND NONE" LOL.. however there is a screen test and program (or some such) test that the wifi unit could still benefit from..
would like to know the correct SPC to at least try the other tests...
