[Q] Installing Gingerbread - have I got this right? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I've been reading various threads, websites and guides all over the Internet but I'm really confused as to how to flash my HD2 to Android.
My mates flashed his using tytung's Gingerbread (found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060) and I want to do the same, cause his looks awesome.
However, there are loads of steps and i cannot find clarification on what exactly I need to do to install it and boot it from NAND.
I know I need MAGLDR installed, but then i need HardSPL installed before that, of which i need to change my SPL version 3.03 to another version (how do I do that?).
Then I really don't understand this clockwork or DFT method. I've tried looking everywhere but I can't find it.
I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times befiore but I'm a proper newb at this and I want to do it right.
Thanks in advance

I Know where you're coming from
About a month ago i was also a complete noob at this and technically still am so ill give you what i can from my view
1. When running HardSPL.exe it will change your SPL for you, running the program as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477 will ensure you get it right, Make sure you choose 2.08.HSPL on the selection screen
2. CWM vs DFT - im still learning on this one and at the moment i have stuck with DFT but i am gradually learning about CWM.
In all honesty if you have not read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948 do so, its what got me me up and running
Oh yes and most updates/flashes etc say you must be at at least 50% battery - this is true. In my opinion due to some threads i have read about Battery levels etc make sure its at 100% when you are flashing.

That's great thanks for your help!

Flashed my first android to hd2 few days ago, viewed alot of guides and videos in youyube and all went ok and it looks very cool...
Heres what i did:
1. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
(keep in mind that the guide is abit old u need to do just half of it, or just read to understand where everything is going...) and instal HSPL from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477 (just chech if parameters fit.
2. check if u got apropriate radio (use the one that is suggested in the nand flashing guide) (instal it as it says in the HSPL guide) all very easie just follow the guide
3. this step is where the guide for flashing nand wont help - in this step u instal CWM (clockworkmod recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898913 read the guide and whatch a video or two in youtube about it and all will be ok.
4. then u download a rom , for ex i use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958953 (ultimate droid)
i used the guide video in youtube (just write "clockworkmod hd2" and its the first video) its for the older version, so colours will be different dont worry about that...
thats it...
It was rly scary while i was flashing it but dont worriy just do it step by step, u wont regret it , android is rly better that WM, and the speed is amazing, battery too =)

And about CWM vs DFT, i was reading abit and if i got it right, CWM is alot easier and all new roms will use only cwm method, so i supose its a good thing u start right from it.

cant find the howto install android on hd2 thread

so what was it you flash hspl first? should i use a newer version or the 2.08 ok then do i flash the radio or clockworkmod? its just been so long sinced i switched from winmo to android i forgot how to do it lol thanks
It's still there. Link in my signature.
Basic steps
- 2.08.hspl
- Radio 2.08.50 (or higher 50)
- magldr 1.13
- if using cwm flash appropriate sized partition, or if daf then run from magldr.
That guide is the best! i've never done anything to my phone besies the t-mobile update and that was it. i was bored one day and decided to check into android hype. read the thread about 4 or 5 times and then tried.
everything went as planned and everything worked the first time. so i got to say thanks for making it so clear and easy to follow and understand.
im now on my third android build and loving it.

[Q] Updating NAND Android from MAGDLR to CLK

I would like to switch from MAGDLR to CLK for the sole purpose of charging my phone when it is off. Since I read that CLK is able to do this.
I would like to know how I would go about this since I thought about going with HD2 Tookit to ease the process a bit for me.
Located here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
Right now my phone has MAGDLR 1.13 on it with Coutella's release of Android. No CWM. I had it for quite some time and I have not really had too many issues with it though I would like to update to CyanogenMod 7 Gingerbread Rom. I'm leaning towards this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951
So what I'd like someone to help me out with is how I get this done. All this talk of repartitioning and recovering has confused me a bit but I think I have to:
1. Task 29 my phone
2. Repartition my phone to a 140mb or 150mb partition for the rom.
3. Then install CLK
4. Then flash the rom
Would that be the correct method of going about this and ending up with a working phone?

1. task29 (if you want to start with complete clean nand...)
2. the partitions are created by flashing clK (you have to choose the clk nbh file with enough space for your rom (in your case 140/5mb or 150/5 ))
3. install cwm recovery for clk
4. flash your rom with cwm
Thank you for the quick reply! Now, I never really used CWM so I am wondering would the toolkit help me install it or where would be a tutorial to install the mod into my phone?
don't know the toolkit.
really isn't hard though.
see mskips tuts (actually, for everything):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044830
good luck!
Thank you for the advice and the tutorial. I read through it and it doesn't seem to difficult but in the tutorial it mentions that CWM requires MAGLDR? This is true or is this just outdated info?
I also read through the CLK release notes and it mentions that it does not support rmnet and MAGLDR does. What would that missing functionality affect exactly?
After reading through the above tutorial, I read I need a specific radio version. Where would I go to check the Radio Version? It's not like WM6.
Lastly, after reading the release notes, the developer of CLK has a bit of a negative tone towards CLK and mentions that it really isn't any better than MAGLDR. So given that would anyone advise against CLK? I really would like to charge my phone while it is off and MAGLDR currently does not support that and I'm not sure if it will ever.

Hi,
The main difference between magldr and clk is the charging whilst it's off.
There are some complaints of data loss with clk,but this can be overcome with various wrappers.
Clk is native Android and has the advantage of being able to use ROM Manager too.
I personally find magldr easier to use,and have no use for charging when it's off,cos I have 2 batteries.
Magldr also has Tetris.
And now of course there is THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him).
Read the thread and see the advantages/disadvantages.
mate, you are thinking about it too much. pick one and go. give it a few days. if something is not working out, switch it. and to put your fears at rest, cwm can be used on magldr and clk. you have nothing to lose.
go and enjoy!
I may be! HAHA! I just want to understand everything before I take the plunge. This whole CLK memory loss thing concerns me so I might be sticking with MAGLDR, though I really wanted to charge my phone while it's off. Hopefully, someone will patch MAGLDR with that functionality. I'm not sure what the wrappers are but I suppose they are patches of sorts.
Also, would there be any way to preserve my memory of my phone like my contacts and stuff or do I have to erase them? I have most of my apps on my SD card so they should transfer over when I go to a cyanogenmod7 rom right?

when you start fresh, it starts fresh.
my contacts are synched via gmail; i suggest you do the same or some other 3rd party app.
apks are not preserved unless dl'd from a market. but if you dl Astro from market it can backup all of your installed apks (free app btw.) just reinstall from sdcard after starting fresh.
i do not know if a nand backup from magldr would work on clk. i wouldn't as issues may arise.
now just do it. install clk. it's okay. everything will be fine. backup before you do and if clk isn't for you, return to magldr and reinstall your nand backup and all be like it was a bad dream. go go go!
Ok, I gonna go ahead after just two more questions. I don't really use my data on my phone. I only really use it to send picture messaging. I run on AT&T so I can only get EDGE speeds but I do use wifi many times for a quick search on the internet. Now, if I flash CLK since it doesn't support RMNET would it somehow impact my usage?
Lastly, I've been reading up on tutorials and it might be an incorrect assumption but is CLK and CWM together when you flash CLK? Because I see no mention of installing CWM, the tutorials just access the CWM menu and flash the rom.

Hi,
I can't comment on on the quality of data or wi-fi that you will get. That is something you will see when it's installed.
If you use the toolkit, you will be firstly installing cLK.Then you will need to install a system partition for the ROM you intend to use.You choose the size according to the information on the [OP] of the ROM you want.During this process the system partition is created and CWM is installed.
So are you saying that the lack of RMNET can affect the performance and/or usage of Wifi and EDGE?

Hi,
I'm sorry I cannot comment fully on this.
I am just passing on observations from other users.
I,in fact have magldr, and have no such problems.
That's fine I was just wondering. I have MADLDR right now as well and it does not have any problems but I just want to be fully educated on CLK before I take the plunge. Also, I had another question in my previous post that you might be able to answer. Does CLK already have CWM incorporated into it because the tutorials I read on installing CLK takes no mention on installing CWM but rather it just boots into its menu.

Hi,
As I mentioned before, try THIS TOOL (Don't forget to thank him)
If you take the plunge and install cLK,follow the steps on the toolkit.
1.task 29
2.install cLK
3.System repartition according to the ROM you want to use.
This repartitioning installs CWM as well.
Well, I flashed my phone and everything works but I used a pdf tutorial from the rom's page and then just used the Toolkit to only install CLK and partition it. Anyways, now that everything is working how can I change the Phone's POST Screen. The very first one cause I have this stupid NRG screen when I used his roms and that one replaced my T-mobile one. I'd like to replace it regardless. How would I do this?
that's the splashscreen. you flash it like you did a rom on WM.
best thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895089
i have a couple too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12713124&postcount=3
congrats on getting everything working!
Ah great! Thanks for the info, just a few minutes ago I flashed a different splash screen and its all good now! Yeah thankfully, I didn't really encounter any hiccups when I was installing all this stuff. Just had to edit a .bat file for my fastboot since the guy who made the premade package did not update it with the newest CWM but I got it and changed it so it flashes CWM 4 for me.
Also, even though CLK doesn't have RMNET, it isn't affecting my wifi usage so that's a plus and I really do like CM7 especially the sleep animation when you go into or out of sleep. Thanks again for all your help guys!

[Q] -Specific- question about rooting.

Please, dear XDA'ers, take a little bit of time apart for a newbie at rooting. :l
I'm an Annoying Noob to you, as you probably already guessed. But I made this account, because I want to root my phone to Android gingerbread, with a -STABLE- sense (2.1+)3.0 UI.
So I had my eyes on THIS one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694
BUT! I'm REALLY a noob at rooting. I've tried HaRET rooting, with a Nexus android Rrom, well... That didn't go too well, because via my SD things would become veeeery slow after a while. So I NAND rooted my phone to Android Gingerbread 2.3.3. I'm quiete happy with it, but it's not really the HTC feeling I get when I look at the UI.
So I saw sense 3.0 and fell in love.
Well enough about that. I have an HTC HD 2, it's NAND rooted and it's European... ALL I want is a STABLE sense 3.0 rom... That works for my phone.
Now I was wondering, if I would instal it... Would it work properly for me? None of us are sure. So that's why I want to back-up my ROM. With Clockwork rom recovery tool... you know, from the market. Well I get a very annoying error every time I try to back-up my data. I did flash the app to it's most current version, but when I want to make a back-up, my phone just reboots... and does... basically, nothing.
I don't want to mess up my phone entirely. So what should I do first, dear XDA'ers? Please, I just don't want my data to get lost. I tried multiple tutorials but none seem to have the answer to my problem!
sense 2.1 and sense 3 roms aren't stable yet. they have graphic glitches and camcorder problems. but if you don't consider these problems you can live with it. i may recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075703 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124757. in order to prepare your phone for different nand roms you ca use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783.

I will try this, and if I can't figure it out I will come back to this thread and whine more.
In any case, I think it's appropriate to thank you, it's the least I can do.
btw i think your phone has hspl 2.08 and mgldr?!
rom manager dont work with magldr.
To make a backup boot into cwm manually:
hold power down while rebooting -> magldr screen should appear
Then navigate to ad recovery-> backup and restore..rest should be clear.
..i wonder, how you installed nand roms, without to know how to boot to recovery? oO

I just raped my phone I think. I had HSPL installed, and MAGLDR and I think some other stuff too, so I used the first rom the first poster linked, and I downloaden the two files it told me to download in the instructions... I installed the custom RUU from that first rom, and then my phone kinda died. It only said "HTC" in green, and it diidn't do anything. So I flashed it back to WinMob 6.5. Now I have WinMob 6.5 (rom 1.66 or something I think) and I'm not sure what to do next. I don't want to brick my phone and I don't want WinMob 6.5 either.
*Sigh* I wonder if I'll ever understand rooting.
So just to clarify, I have HSPL (I'm sure it's the correct one too.) And I have MAGLDR installed on my phone. And I don't get the instructions from said thread.
<_> My brain is molten.
if you have come until mgldr don't give up. download the nand tool kit i mentioned a few posts before.choose and download a simple rom for beginning (you may take tyweens typhoon) put it in your sd. after that you will take a few steps. don't be afraid, many people (including me) faced same problems.

Thing is, I don't want a simple rom... I'm stubborn like that, hehehe...
I want a sense 3.0 rom, but I'm not sure how to follow the instructions in the thread. It uses terms I've never heard from before...
Well, if there's a stable android 2.3.3/2.3.4 rom with sense 2.1, I'd consider that! Also, I hate the MAGLDR boot screen... you know, "Go go go!" I saw a rom with a very smooth and pretty boot screen... I'd try that too!
i just say if you can succeed to flash one, then you will learn the steps. after that you can try a different rom everyday,as i do

Yes, I have. I made a 2 gig EXT-4 partition. I just don't know what to do with it. I have Radio Leo installed, MAGLDR, HSPL... CWM and all that.
I tried flashing the two roms you suggested in your first post but they are stuck on the boot screen. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
have you made necessary cwm partitions using usb flasher and nand toolkit?
and how did you make a 2 gb ext4 partition

[Q]noob questions and noob help

hey guys i just got my htc hd2 and ive been playing with it lately but i cant seem to "crack the code" of this whole customization thing
i have been reading the guides and its been confusing and more confusing and more confusing now im completely lost cause i have no idea where the radio is coming from the custom rom or the file names that are mentioned in the guide. no doubt i feel dumb and retarded but a little help would be appreciated please and thank you.
i have htc hd2 t-mobile north america 1024 mb
i have installed hspl through the tool kit dont know if it worked or not i tried check it all looks the same to me. i dont know what to do next through the tool kit or the guides im trying to install cm7 nightly fingers crossed and still trying and phone isnt bricked. so any help would be great cause i have no understanding of what is going on at all like i am out, totally out of my mind trying to figure out the terms and procedures.
if anybody could point me to an extremely noob guide that would be great cause i read some and my brain is dead.
thanks alot appreciated to the max

You have to be careful when flashing the radio on a tmous model. This is where you can brick your phone. Do not use the radio that is used in the guide. I think it is not compatible Ruth the tmous hd2. Read here about it when you do not know what your doing. You should not start flashing before you understood everything what you do.
This is a step by step guide which you would have found when reading the stickies....
Sent from my HD2
alright...calm down. Before you want to embark on any customization, ensure you have the correct HSPL and a radio on your phone. First enter the bootloader. Check your current SPL version. It should read HSPL2.08 if you have flashed HSPL correctly. If its correct, download and flash Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14** (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787). If you want to flash any another radio, ensure it is a .50 version(x.xx.50.xx**) After flashing the radio, enter the bootloader and check if the HSPL and radio is correct before you move on. If you want to flash a custom WM rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534), please do. Ensure that the ROM is compatible with the TMOUS HD2 (compatibility will normally be stated in the first post). A complete and detailed guide on all of the above can be found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614).
I understand that you want CM7 on your phone. To play safe, i recommend that you stick with windows mobile and tinker with a SD Android build before you to venture into dual booting WP7 and android.
Download an Android SD build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735). I am using AmeriCan Android (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652). After extracting, copy the Android Folder into the root of your sd card. Boot into WM, navigate to the Android folder using the file explorer and tap 'clrcad' followed by 'haret'. Android will now boot(first boot will take some time).
Hope this helps and like what rauschkugl said, kindly do some research and reading first. Try the tutorials out and after you are comfortable with flashing, you can move on to WP7, NAND android and dual booting between Wp7 and SD Android: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17282874&postcount=3 (ignore step 1).
Gd luck flashing and enjoy!. Do ask if you are really unsure of something.

update i have installed my first nand cm7 rom feels awesome thanks alot everybody.
any good roms or suggestions for ones with good gps and battery life ?
did you install clockworkmod. if not you should do it because all new roms need it to be installed. i'm running ndt miui right now and for the last 5 month or something like that. tried a lot of roms but battery life on miui in comparison to cm7 was a lot better for me. it also has some nice features that cm doesn't have. but you should try it on your own.
i really can recommend the ndt roms from langthan. he gives great support in his threads and the roms are fast and stable.

to make a clean install you can begin from start (task 29, flash radio etc.)
but to be more practical, if you flash with the same nand partition size you can wipe data factory reset from ad recovery and you can flash new rom.
if they have different nand sizes then you just wipe data factory reset from recovery then apply new cwm partition using usb flasher, then flash new rom.
but all rom cookers recommend clean installation (including reformatting and repartitioning sd)

clockworkmod is for installing roms without the need of a pc. you can also backup your whole rom and restore it. so it is very usefull.
you would have to got to magldr to install it. then you can start cwm by selecting ad recovery in magldr. then cwm will start. if you want to install a rom now all you have to do is put the zip file of the rom to the root of your sd card and select install zip from sd in cwm menu. then chose your rom zip and your done. all new roms use cwm installable zips. so this is the only way to get able to use new roms.

[Q] whats the easiest way to install android

Hi, I have the hdc hd2 with spl 3.03.0000 xe, and radio 2.15.161.3.
You maybe able to tell by that that im new to this, but want to install android as i dont like windows 6.5. I've managed to install a stock windows rom with the information i've learned here. But now i need help.
I want to install froyo or gingerbread as ive used these before on other phones.
So what is the easies way to do it and wheres the best place to get the rom from.
Please try to make it as simple as possible, Thanks.
It depends, do you want NAND Android or are you happy with running SD Android? Basically, if you want SD Android it couldn't be simpler. Just go to the SD section, download a build, place the Android folder on the root of your SD card and hit CLRCAD then HARET in the file manager. If you want NAND Android it's still pretty straightforward. Follow this guide and you should be fine. If you find even this guide too complex try using the NAND Toolkit. If you can't use that, don't bother flashing NAND Android and stick with SD Android.
Have you tried using Google? <<< I'm flaming.
Why didn't you look for the Newbies' Guides that are floating everywhere? they will guide you from the moment you pay for your phone till you are welcomed with Android's welcome screen. <<<I'm trying to be nice.

Edit v1.1:
lol, I guess you're right, It's a double win . Furthermore, I just couldn't b.a. to look for a recent guide, I simply made a quick google about guides for hd2-android and this came up, didn't really check it
Next time, I'll be faster ..... and use bigger words

Muahahahaha, I win Also, you linked an outdated guide for the DFT Stock desire build, so I double win (if that's possible)
Thanks guys after more reading and searching i think i should go the nand root.
This means i need hspl on it it first and i can only install this if i have spl 1.42.0000. Mine says spl-3.03.0000. It also says installing a stock rom will roll this back. I've installed stock win rom yesterday and it didnt touch the spl.
Can i still install hspl with this or do i need it?
Is there a list of available roms on this site?

*sigh* did you read Marvlesz's post about Google? Download HSPL4 and use it to flash HSPL 2.08, no ROM downgrade is necessary. Basically after you've done that it's as simple as flashing MAGLDR, CWM and your ROM (and trust me, all of that won't take you more than 30 minutes at the very most).

Check your device manager did u see mobile device? and is it working?
if not try to Reinstall the WMDC driver?
I used to have this problem too after i reinstall the driver the phone will be detected again.
However if u still can't connect the phone to your PC (it's driver problem, i think).
Try task 29 Change to cLK for me it fixed everything. (using HD2 toolkit is easiest way)
Sorry for being a bit dumb here but stuck again.
I've downloaded 4 roms-
danik supersonic v1.0 lite
boxmax.s3.5v8.0.magldr
boxmax.s3.5v8.5.magldr
boxmax.s3.5.v8.5.haret.sd
unzipping the first 3 provide no DAF.exe or install.exe, so stuck there.
unzipped the last and copied to sd card and the phone just stalls on the htc quietly brilliant screen.
What can i try next?

Which guide did you follow? The one I posted or the one which Marvlesz posted? Use the one I posted because the one he posted is outdated. You install CWM then flash the ROM as a zip file. I really have no clue how somebody can find it so difficult to follow simple instructions: DOWNLOAD A NAND ROM, NOT AN SD ROM. You've said that you want a NAND ROM and then you try to flash an SD build? At least have some common sense, please. Unless you have a problem which cannot be solved by reading in the future I refuse to give any more help, because it appears to be hopeless
thanks again i've learned alot more tonight, got my first flash done just waiting for it to load. Last question before i leave you alone Is there a way to tell the difference between which mods are CWM and which wont work.

Basically all ROMs use CWM, other than the DFT Stock Desire ROM. For everything else, just download the MAGLDR version of the ROM if there is one (many ROMs automate MAGLDR/cLK), change your system partition to the required size and flash the ROM.
hi tried downloading 6 roms now
DFT_LEO_NAND_Android
BoxmaX.S3.5.v.8.5.Magldr
For.user.Nand.v8.x
BoxmaX.S3.5.v.8.5.Haret.SD
BoxmaX.S3.5.v.8.0.Magldr
DFT_LEO_MAGLDR113_DAF
Android_2.3.5_Danik_Supersonic_v.1.0_Lite
Put all of them on the memory card and it only recogognises the Danik one when i go to choose zip from sd card.
When i try to load that it goes through ok till i reboot then it freezes at the HTC screen.

Is that how you say thanks to those who were trying to help you ?
Follow this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16528026&postcount=7 شبر بـ شبر and you should have Android by the end of its steps.
(btw, post reported)
I've said thanks before for his help. Ive asked for the difference between mods and how to differenciate them, i cant work out out why only 1 out of 6 is recognised. And i've downloaded the magdlr versions as suggested.
Then he calls me f*cking stupid. Think i have every right to be p*ssed off.
What do you mean by "Difference between mods" ? All mods come in a .zip package that is flashed in CWM.
When you download something (any mod, rom, kernel or anything) off the NAND section (this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=928 ) it is going to be a flashable CWM. (Unless noted)
But when you download something off the SD section ( this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735) it is going to be ... well ... to be put on the sd without flashing.
Is this what you are asking for ?

Sorry, but I have every right to call you stupid too. I even posted DOWNLOAD A NAND ROM, and you go on and download ROMs from the SD section? It's frankly pathetic if you can't do that little reading, and if I were you I wouldn't bother flashing anything in the future. You're lucky you have a pretty much unbrickable device, because if you didn't I'm sure you would be sitting right there with a useless piece of hardware right now.
Thanks Marvlesz, thats got me sorted, the problem was when he said just download the "MAGLDR version", i thought anything with that in the name was the correct one. I'm not here to get into a slanging game so i'll just leave it that.
Thanks again.
