Please forgive me if im in the wrong category. It said 'general' so I figured.
So today I found out my dad will be switching us from Tmobile to Sprint. I was sad to hear that my Nexus One will no longer be my best friend, instead my dad chose to pick up the Epic 4g. We will be switching this Friday. I was a little upset because of the large rumored release of the Nexus S. And the fact that the Epic, according to the sprint Rep, was on 2.1 unlike my current 2.2.1 nexus.he said it will be updated around the holidays. I asked him if the updates will continue without being held back by the carrier, he said yes and that sprint hasn't held anything back yet. I was unsure if this was true or not, my dad gave me hardly anytime to do more research on sprint and their phones so I went off of things I already knew.
The Rep was nice, spoke to him over the phone, while my dad and brother were at the sprint store with him.
I don't think he could comprehend how a 16yo could know so much I asked him if we had 4g in south Carolina and he answered no. I asked an estimate of how long it will be until we get 4g he said 6 months. So that's $60 I will be paying for nothing. (Mandatory 10$ for 4g speeds). I also mentioned my custom roms and root, which he knew about but seemed confused when I ventured further into the topic ( I get excited when talking about Technology and tend to go overboard.) Anyways his main sale tactic was:
"you will get unlimited talk, text, web. isn't that cool?"
I'm upset that my phone will be "with Google" instead of "BY GOOGLE"
anyways I just felt like someone should know because I'm honestly sad to leave my nexus. And I treat it like my best friend. Sorry if you wasted time reading this.
If you have any advice about sprint, or the epic 4g. (I will begin looking at the epic forum soon) or anything else you want to add, please do.
I warned my dad if there is a set and confirmed release date for the rumored Nexus S and its on GSM. I will pounce on it like a cat.
Goodbye Nexus One. I had a good time with you. Your 1ghz snap dragon is great, you never lag, but I must move onto a faster hummingbird processor and 4g speeds. I will never sell you. And I will most likely buy a 'pay as you go plan' so I can still update your ROMS, and use you.
Love Branden
(God Im pathetic...)
Again sorry if you wasted time reading this.

The good news is Samsung will probably follow the same sales approach with the Nexus S (and/or Galaxy S2) as they did for the Galaxy S, as in slang it all over the world on every carrier possible. There may be light at the end of the tunnel.
ya the word is it may be available for multiple carriers so u may be safe. But you could of gotten the Evo since it is supported by several devs, even Cyanogen

Haven't seen or heard that at all. The only FCC filing, currently, is for TMO frequencies.
i know how u feel about ur nexus cuz i am a same and it's bad decision to move from tmo to sprint , sprint toooo expensive, but Google will not be slow, they will make nexus s for sprint, this what i am thinking and hoping to be true
I didn't want to move from Atmosphere, my Dads decision, but he doesn't listen. And the evo was my other choice

I'm currently on Sprint with a EVO 4G. With CM it comes pretty close to the Nexus One experience wise but sans the trackball and with a more satisfying size IMO.
That said, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a WiMax capable Nexus S on Sprint a month or three after. They already did it with the SGS/Epic 4G so you never know.

You should have 30 days to switch to other phones if you don't like the epic, my friend just got an evo and it's sick! If this happened to me,i would go for that instead, htc is way better than samsung with updates and rooting, plus touchwiz is kind of cheesy. Hope this helps, and enjoy any new phone you get.
I agree touchwiz is. And the guy seemed quite adament that it will be updated constantly, I know were getting the Epic for 99$ with 2yr contract
Anyone know the price of the Evo? If not I'll check online .

Updated constantly....can't help but laugh.
You should carry around your Nexus One and just use your Epic to tether your Nexus for data
Evo=CM6
Sgs =No CM6 EPIC FAIL
I know its hard leaving the n1 but you gotta make the right choice.
Evo FTW.....
The Epic is... epic. It's an amazing phone in terms of hardware, root it and wait for CyanogenMod to come out for it.
What is with your carriers. I think it is terrible that they do not work around a standard like 900/2100 GSM.

Well, in this case it doesn't matter what bands the phone uses, it's a different standard. GSM vs CDMA.
Dad can go to sprint you stay here.. problem solved.
I've had my Nexus One since April, and right now after seeing the new Nexus S (which is some-what disappointing in terms of upgraded hardware) I've decided it's time to move on. I'd like to sell before the Nexus S comes out since I believe the price of the Nexus One will decrease. I'm currently considering the following: G2, Nexus S, Captivate, Galaxy S i9000, and Mytouch 4G. The problem I'm having is deciding, see I would really love to have a front facing camera which would come in handy for me but, the phones that offer it don't work with AT&T 3G (except the i9000). So, I would like to get a captivate or i9000, but I'm not really fond of the i9000's design nor either's Touchwiz & Samsung's updates. I would really love a G2, since I could easily sell my Nexus and buy one with money to spare in some occasions and it's a very attractive device with great build quality (except for that hinge issue), but again, no AT&T 3G and no FFC. The Mytouch has the FFC, and is a nice phone and all but probably the ugliest thing EVER in my opinion. The Nexus S has everything I want (except for AT&T 3g) but, I would probably have to shell out $100-$200 to get it. So, what I need is advice. If you were in my situation, which would you choose? Thanks!

Still in a contract for another year :/
if i was in your situation i would not sell for a couple reasons
u will get STRESSED going back to edge. i mean its ridiculously slow coming for a 3g one
In a couple months they will be releasing some kick ass phones..wait patiently ..regardless the n1 is already depreciated
You will be trading one of the most customizables phones for some that you are not sure if it ll get the same support
IF you sign up for tmobile you buy one g2 and get 1 free (just got an email about that)

Get a Desire Z from bell canada, unlock it, and that's your G2 with AT&T 3g support.
The one I am impatiently waiting for is the Motorola Olympus for at&t. They say q1 of 2011, which is just when my warranty is running out for the n1.
the nexus one is still one of the best phones currently out there. my opinion at least. i hope to keep this phone another year before i get another itch. til then i hope my N1 doesn't get any scratches.
I'm looking at the desire Z also for the next phone. I'd like the price to come a bit first though. I haven't found it for less than 650 yet.
Wait a month 2 c whats new in 2011...
Went from a Nexus to a G2 then back to a Nexus to make some extra cash to get rid of the keyboard.
Currently I traded my Nexus for a new Mytouch 4G.
It is a very fast phone, solid build, decent camera, and its 4G, not to mention it has some nice novelties like front facing camera and a hard button for the camera and 720p recording out of the box.
Alot of people complain about the UI but i havent seen much slowdown or problems with it. It's a pleasure to use and i have yet to remove the battery bc it froze.
I went from a Galaxy S to the N1.
The screen is definitely a BIG step up from the N1, both in responsiveness and quality.
The phone itself though, frustrating. Good hardware potentially but crippled by bad implementation. Out of the box they are laggy and unstable. The GPS is basically useless for anything other than telling you where you are at that point. Start moving about, and its gone. Then its the going into a coma for no apparent reason.
The N1 is probably just about a more dependable device. Not sure I'd go for the SGS over an N1.
I would try to get a dual core phone with vanilla android. So I recommend that you wait.
my advice is it sucks but you have to just wait for an ATT 3G version to come out. just wait for a nexus S with att 3g is your only choice. the nexus one is still awesome enough to ride it out for a bit longer.

Well, see im stuck in a dilemma. I can either a. sell my nexus one on eBay right now for $450 (offer I just got) and add $for a Nexus S OR b. wait it out. The only thing i'm afraid of is that the nexus's value goes down and when NS comes out everyones gonna be selling and their gonna be a dime a dozen....
SO, what do you guys think I should do? I have until tomorrow to decide to sell...
Personal finances are different for everyone. If U need the bread now for an upgrade, then sell at the best price.
I say wait it out. The Nexus one is going to get Gingerbread soon and the value wont depreciate as fast as you're afraid it will. In a couple of months it will be on a very small list of phones running Gingerbread and people will be willing to pay top dollar for it.
I'm in the same boat. I can upgrade right now but there's nothing on AT&T compelling enough to make me switch. Hopefully CES will give me something to look forward to. That LG Star is actually looking surprisingly good, as is the Olympus, and I definitely want Tegra2 on my next phone.

I knocked my N1 into the toilet the other day. I took it out, dried it off, removed battery and sd/sim. Sealed it with rice in a tupperware for a couple of days. When I turned it on I was shocked. It worked! Just as good as new for a whole day. Problem is it hasn't worked since that day. Just get a flashing green and yellow charging light.
I called HTC and they gave me an estimate of $55 to $190 for repair. My dilemma is repair or replace.
I really like my wife's Nexus S and would really like to go to T-Mobile with her, but my N1 was ATT. Any suggestions?
IMO it depends on your contract with AT&T. If you're grandfathered in on unlimited data, I would stick with that. If you're not though, no reason not to switch for the Nexus S, it is the faster device and has a front facing camera.
I forgot to mention. I'm temporarily living in Brasil. I will be in the USA from May 10th to June 8th. That's my window for purchase or repair. Both of our phones are pure Google and stock. No contracts involved.

This would be my worst nightmare. Have you looked into any used N1's for sale on craigs list of flebay?
Try a Mytouch 4g
I have both an N1 and a MT4G. They are both about as fast, same size and weight, but the MT has FM radio and a front camera. The MT runs on 2.2.2 and I use Visionary and Titanium Pro to temproot and remove the TMo bloatware, and Juice Defender to increase battery life.
I had the N1 up to 2.3.3 but Visionary, Titanium and Juice Defender all don't work on 2.3.3, nor does trackball wake (which is desirable to avoid failure of the power switch). Green Power does about as much as Juice Defender to improve battery life and does work on 2.3.3, so I have put that on my N1. Nevertheless I can see no advantage to 2.3.3. for the N1 and went back to 2.2.2.
I like the Sense interface and some other features on the MT and with Visionary you can remove the more egregious bloatware. You can also use any of a number of GUI apps to make the MT have exactly the same GUI as the N1.
So it's a tossup between the N1 and MT4g; both can be made to have the same interface, both same size/weight/screen; but the MT has forward camera and FM radio. Also the MT can probably be bought relatively cheaply now, as phones with more advanced processors are on the way.
I like my setup on both my N1 and MT4g well enough that if/when there is ever an update to 2.3.3 for the MT I will decline it, as I have done for the N1--at least until a version of Visionary that will let me temproot the device appears.

Do you care about custom ROMs?
I really like the pure Google experience. I like to be able to upgrade as soon as new versions are released and be able to do it manually without waiting for the OTA. I also like a phone without having to deal with a lot of carrier issues. I really like what I hear about the Galaxy S ll but as I understand it only will be available with the Touch Wiz interface and you have to deal with carrier released updates for Android version updates. I really don't want to get involved with rooting and roms.
I enjoy reading about the different roms (and even considered rooting and using different roms at one time) but I'm able to all the customization I need with stuff available in the market or by 3rd party. I loved my N1. My only complaints were the lousy display and a little bit of the 3g issues. I guess the Nexus S solves those two issues.
I really value a lot of the opinions that are shared on this forum and would never consider anything other than Andriod. Just struggling to make a decision before next month.
can you give me youre broken nexus one please i will use it for my project, polishing the nexus one, ill just use the housing

If you are wanting a Nexus S, you can get an ATT compatible version. Negri Electronics sells an unlocked Nexus S for ATT 3G bands. Its $589, but that shouldn't bother anyone who was willing to put down $529 for a N1 back in the day, such as myself

Well thanks for all the suggestions. I picked up the Nexus S today and couldn't be happier. Just to add, I didn't realize T-Mobile is way cheaper than ATT and much nicer to deal with. It cost me $5 less total to two have Nexus S's on T-Mobile than it did just to have 1 Nexus One on ATT last year.

Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'm sure the majority of the people on the Atrix forum would recommend the Atrix. Just as the majority of the people on the Inspire forum would recommend the Inspire.
It's all about what you need, and what you want. We can't answer that for your friends.
I personally recommend waiting if possible. The Iphone 5 will be out soon, followed by some pretty rock solid android phones that will most likely top the iphone spec wise. Also, I would recommend giving Verizon a chance. Verizons network is much larger and now- much faster than ATT (4g LTE vs 3g+). I feel like I've been duped by Att by their claimes of offering 4g speeds, which led me to buy the Atrix on their network. The Atrix is a power house of a phone, but ATT has much catching up to do in terms of establishing a true 4g network.
If that isn't much of a concern, the Atrix is going for dirt cheap right now and is well worth it at this price point.
Just my two cents.

If you cant wait for the new Nexus or iPhone 5 (4s?) than go with the atrix. It kills anything right now. If it was me I would get the wife the iphone 4 since its simple, clean and pretty. Woman like that. Then get the atrix for yourself.
If they are not on a budget I would let them get 2 unlocked phones (Samsung galaxy S II) would be my choice.
If they must have a phone now I would recommend the Samsung infuse or the iPhone 4.
To be honest like another said, ill wait because once the summer is over more good phones like the iPhone 5 and many fantastic android phones are to come. Plus wp7 is also going to get better.

No question... [Samsung?] Nexus "Prime"... freaking Ice Cream Sandwich!!! All you have to do is wait till about November
Otherwise, if it has to been soon, I'd go Atrix or Samsung Attain (a/k/a Galaxy SII), which should be out this month.
If she doesn't want an iPhone, get her an Atrix. The infuse and inspire are already outdated specs.
I have an Atrix, my wife got the Inspire. Both of us are very happy with what we have. I wanted something more technologically advanced to tinker with, while she isn't interested in even having root, (although I will persuade her so I can "tinker" very soon)! She likes the extra screen real estate, and has had no issues other than when she mistakenly downloaded a new launcher and didn't know why her screens, icons, etc. were all messed up. I uninstalled the launcher and she was once again happy.
The Atrix feels just like my iPhone 3GS did in my hand, both weight and form, so I very comfortably made the change in that respect. I've learned a lot in the last few months about Android, and this is a lot more fun than iOS if you don't mind getting frustrated every now and then.
I would say if he wants to play with his phone and try all the possibilities there are, and will be, he should go with the Atrix, or wait until the next super innovation is released. If his wife is not so tech savvy, she should get something like the Inspire. Don't buy 2 Atrix if he plans on doing the modding to both phones would be my opinion, as it can be very time consuming sometimes getting back from a bricked condition, and he doesn't want twice the work. Screwing up is innevitable...........it will happen...........it will be more than once! LOL
iphone for the less technical and prestige conscious.
Atrix for those who like to tinker, wish they could tinker, enjoy falling into tinker zones.
As just a phone, any phone can work. This phone is a powerhouse. It's not just a phone. (Ha, they say that about all of them, nowadays.)
there is also the rumoured phone
the HTC Holiday and HTC Lead
Holiday could be the first AT&T LTE phone
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/23/htc-holiday-to-be-a-4-5-inch-behemoth-with-qhd-resolution-1-2gh/
Today I just got an unlocked G2 (a new rom needed to be flashed. It was stuck in a boot loop and they had no idea how easy it was to fix so traded my moto backflip and $25 for it)
I have AT&T. I'm running an miui rom and am really loving it. Plus I only like phones with a physical keyboard.
The only downside is I only have EDGE.
AT&T doesn't offer a high-end, dev friendly android phone with a physical keyboard.
My question is, is it worth having a 4G phone and only have EDGE?
I'm not sure if any phone is worth being stuck on edge.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Lol trust me I know. The only thing saving me is my wifi.
It's just the only phone out with a physical keyboard is the flipout, and that's not really booming in the dev community.
Do I have any other options?
Ya a couple years back I was using an unlocked iphone on tmobile, obviously was stuck with just edge. It was RIGHT at the precipice before edge became the mobile equivelant of dialup. I don't think there is any way in hell your gonna have a decent experience with just edge. Just take the huge profit you just made and flip it on craigslist for an Att phone.

I looked at the bell version and I don't have $400 for it, if I did I would go with that option.
I would just trade it for an att phone but I need a physical keyboard. (always had a keyboard on every phone to date starting with my sidekick 08)
I was looking toward the captivate but, I saw the a captivate with a custom rom vs a stock g2 in benchmarks, and the captivate wasn't ahead by much.
I'm stuck ):

Unless you can get a trade for 850mhz DZ I don't think you're going to want to stick with it. You're printing money at this point getting the G2 so cheap so might as well try to get a trade up for a phone you can use 3G on. EDGE Is so painful.
Sounds like you wanted the keyboard, but if you don't absolutely have to have it you can just sell the G2 and put that towards something else. The Nexus S is offered on AT&T on contract now as well if you need it cheap.

Yea I know. I just checked my upgrade status. I'm due in October so if I can tuff it out two more months, I should have more options for me. Thanks for the help guys!
Try to find a Canadian who is using BELL and wants to upgrade their phone service to Globalive. Globalive *requires* AWS band (won't work without), so any phone from bell will not work at all. Get them to do a straight up trade.
Personally though, I couldn't care less about mobile data, as long as it'll do email. I say you're better off with an HTC VISION on Edge than you are with an iTrash.
