Hey everyone,
Us Streak users have a bounty waiting for a dev to port over honeycomb for our device, it's up to $310! So if you're up to make $310 help us port over Honeycomb to the Dell Streak 7. The dev support for this device is really lacking
I know the source files for honeycomb for the xoom are there.. If there are no devs willing to do it can someone point me in the direction of how to port over a rom? I'm a programmer but never have done android or linux dev. I've always been a windows front end/back end developer

there's not much point in starting until the aosp code is out
I thought it would be out by now but.. hopefully it will be soon

Hi,
Well, now that we've (almost) got Froyo on our Galaxy 3s (i5800/i5801), do you think now would be a proper time to get something done to port CyanogenMod to it? I dunno why exactly it hasn't been done yet, looking at the popularity of the phone. We can request the CM developers/maintainers to port it or if someone is willing to do it themselves, that'll be good.

good idea - I've red today an article about the new release and improvements in it. Would be great
well ask this question cyanogen's forum. Hopefully they will take note.
Else one of us will have to take initiative and ask them for help
see here: hxxp://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6711-samsung-galaxy-3-gt-i5800/
Well, that thread's been there since the 12th of September, and I don't think anyone has noticed it yet. What I think we should do is that one of us should PM any of the mods on the CM Board, and then they'll do something about it.

Have you done this? Any replies? CyanogenMod would be really cool
Umm, I haven't approached them yet, I will soon, as soon as I get my phone. Till then anyone who's a member in the CM Forums should PM them.
Guys, please keep in mind that the cyanogen team can not do a port to a phone they do not own, so there are two possibilities,
start porting ourselves, like the Galaxy S comunity did
ask the devs if one would consider porting if he gets a "fundraised" SG3 and if so start a bounty...
We can try porting it ourselves. I'm in. I'll do as much as I can. I have some experience in coding. Anyone else who wants to help can join. I will search their wiki and ask them instructions on how to port CM to G3.
The fundraiser method can also be done, unfortunately, I can't donate much. If others can, then we can do something.
You can't port it yet: Samsung haven't yet deliver the source for 2.6.32 kernels. They suck.
Is it the same kernel used in Android 2.2? If that's so, we should have it soon. 2.2 on G3 is on its way, and it should be on Samsung OSP soon.
Can anyone tell. ..wat are bugs in leaked froyo for g3...???

Is reading the appropriate thread too much to ask? See Android development forum!
Okay, so I'm getting my phone tomorrow. Anyone volunteering for porting CM to our G3s? I will now ask them from instructions/guidelines on porting.
Im in.. ill do as much help as i can..

I could be of help. Lets start something
just wondering if any developers here are able to mod drivers if nvidia are open sourcing them.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Is nvidia going to release them? I doub it.
Anyway, if ndiviad does, take for sure that any developer will take them and do their best...
Corvus.
Why did you post this in the development section? The tittle suggests you were offering some drivers (you got me all excited). If we get any new drivers, then i am sure we will all take a look at them. Maybe posting this question in the general section would of been a better idea.
Take it easy
Edit: Thanks for moving willverduzco
Existing driver aint exactly brillant, hopefully honeycomb update from advent might help.
Advent will have another tablet in the making, a Ventana one. It makes no financial sense for DSG or for anyone to hire programmers good enough to bring HC to the Vega, since it is much more expensive than simply churning out a new tablet and, unlike creating said new model, it wil not bring any revenue. DSG must be cash-strapped as well if they've thrown the towel in Spain and other places.
In essence, we need a bounty. We could propose the idea in the other Harmony devices forums to make the bounty sweeter, and possibly to find someone with the skills.
Today I found that the 3.2 code went "public".
How about using this code to make a port to the vega? Is it useful or not?
The link is here
its apparently only certain parts of the code that are aosp, might still be useful for helping iron bugs out of vegacomb but not going to see a full aosp rom anytime soon.
thats my fairly uninformed understanding anyway
*actually just had a quick look at the link and it doesnt even look useful at all, the equivalent code was released for 3.0 and 3.1 so this will not help at all with our vega
Damn! I had the hope that this could give us some light for the vega port
Let just keep on trusting on vegacomb and all the great job done there
According to several members that have contacted DELL, the official Honeycomb OTA is supposed to roll out within 48 hours.
We'd love to have someone there w/ HC experience to help us tweak things out and get it flashed!

Hello fellow xda members,
I know many devs and community members are busy enjoying and developing for many new shiny phones and tablet, but today i turn and ask for your help.
There is a small community of DELL Streak 7 owners along with ONE DEV who are trying to bring some life and a lot of improvements into our small and pitiful tablet running Tegra2.
Our current Honeycomb 3.2 build is running off the XOOM dump. We have some features and errors that of course, because there is no native dump for the streak, are having problems fixing.
I come asking as a poor newb, because i really tried to learn how to learn to modify ROMs and i couldn't do it, for your support.
Our one and only dev right now is DJ_Steve (Click here for profile), who has done and continues to do a freaking amazing job. He has achieved what many thought was not possible; making honeycomb work for our small tablet.
If any of you guys out there have any time and ability to spare, we would REALLY appreciate your support and expertise.
DELL has said they would release a HC update, but as we know, so has every other android manufacturer; most lie.
So, I come representing many, and humbly ask, will you help us out?
If you feel as though you can, please do not hesitate to contact DJ_Steve or visit our small part of paradise, as our link is below.
******7/29 UPDATE*********
We would truly really appreciate the support of any and all developers who can contribute in any possible way.
If it's of any incentive, you can now get the DELL Streak 7 @ Staples for $200+Tax after you apply this $100 coupon:

kicking it up
Up again. We now have an additional dev onboard as well as some members who've started learning android rom compiling!
Please don't hesitate to post on our forums or contact me or dj_steve if you can help out

So we have it for the fascinate, the vibrant, the Nexus s and the galaxy s its self, where is ours? If we had Cyanogenmod all of this garbage about waiting for sprinsung to update our GB would be a non-issue. i have programming skills (java, python, c++, perl, bash, etc) and a lot of free time. Id be willing to put forth effort to get this out if some one were to decide to help out.
If OP really does have the knowledge to help out hes more than welcome to take a stab at it.. but be warned people have tried and tried but dont realise the level of development they are up against. the team working on it are very good, and if you think you have something to add.. then come to the cm7 epic irc channel and chit chat, but i wouldnt expect them to automatically assume you know what youre talking about...
Without GB source code, this is a dead end

Not at all. Without Gingerbread Source Code Developers are capable of writing drivers themselves, it is just a lot easier to work with Samsung's drivers.

Exactly...as everyone always asks "why do the other Galaxy S line of phones have CM7 but not us?" Well, since those models will probably never see official GB, the Devs in those communities took it upon themselves to build CM7 from scratch, from the bottom up. Just to point it out as well, they're Dev's are a lot higher in numbers compared to ours and therefore were able to split the work amongst themselves, which was still a challenge to say the least. We on the other hand, have a lot less Devs and us trying to follow the other Galaxy S communitie's footsteps would be impossible. The workload is just too much for our Devs. Luckily, we were the only US Galaxy S variant that will be receiving official GB, so, our Devs are waiting on Samsung to release source code, as this will make everything that much easier and smoother to complete CM7. I mean, why try and build from scratch when we have GB being released in a couple weeks? and just one last thing to clear up...everyone asks "why not just port a kernel or ROM from another Galaxy S phone?" Well, the Epic is the 'redheaded stepchild' of the Galaxy S family. Our hardware is different from the rest of the other variants. Decad3nce and the rest of the CM7 team have assured us that they've exhausted many different resources in attempts to get us CM7 before GB, but so far, they're still not near releasing a stable build.
Bottom line: GB source will help up immensely and is what we're currently waiting/looking forward to in order to advance with CM7 development.
*this is all common knowledge I have read/have been told by many high reguarded ppl within and around our community. If I'm wrong about something please point it out an correct me, just plz dnt start a flame war or anything of the like. I wrote this in hope of clearing up some questions/concerns. Also, feel free to add anything I might have missed*

Considering we have a team working on it, these threads aren't necessary. Making these threads just makes the Devs realize how ungrateful you people are. If I was them, I would've scrapped CM7 work a long time ago.

All of you are right.
Coming from someone who has a lot of experience developing BSPs for the Linux kernel, this is something that can take a lot of time.
Some of it can be reverse engineered, but a lot of it only exists in binary form. Unfortunately, the interfaces to the binary parts can change.
It's not quite as simple as knowing C/C++. You have to know how the hardware works, or at least similar experience to know what's going on and how to reverse engineer it.
