[Q] Cotulla WM 6.1 ROM Backup battery problem - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi,
Recently I have upgraded to cotulla's wm6.1 ROM. I have a JAM with 128 mb RAM. On my battery panel, I can see my Main (Li-ion) and Backup (NiMH) batteries. When I had WM2003, I can work until my main battery meter become completely 0 and the device will work on backup battery. But now, I am getting red warning light when my main battery meter become low, and the device turns off even if the backup battery is showing 100%. Does anybody know the reason for this?? Is anything wrong with the registry?? Pls reply to solve me the problem..
Thanks in advance...

Hard reset after battery been removed?

I just received my S100 and have played with it for a few days.
But today I had some problems with my bluetooth connection which i could not turn off so I removed the battery from the back to reset it. After i put it back i was presented with the installation instuction like when i turned it on the first time. In settings > battery it says that both are 100% full so my backup battery should take over or am i incorrect? Is this a hardware failure or im doing something wrong? Im glad i alraedy synced it with outlook so i could restore most of my data which was on the device.
Hope somebody can help me here.
-nrg
i think the backup batt runs for only a few minutes... but as you say both are topped of at 100% can you replicate this problem? If not it may have been a one time thing.
Yes i could reproduce it 3 times. I only took out the battery for a minute or so and then put it back again. When I put the battery back and I check the power again in settings it still says 2x100%. If this is not normal behavior I think I will have to return it for exchange or repair.
-nrg
yes this is not normal. well goodluck hope you get a better unit
Thx!
I hope I get a new one although i highly doubt it....

Same thing happend to me as well !!
I dropped my Qtek S100 on the floor and the main battery popped out. I inserted it again (it was out just for 30-40 seconds) and a hard reset occured!
Everything lost and still my backup battery was 100% charged.
Peter
maybe the drop had more to do with the hard reset than the battery popping off?
Hard Reset after removing battery for 10 secs
OMG.. This is happening to me too!.... has anyone found a solution for this?
im using 1.11WWE + Big Storage.
Can any brave mini users try removing their battery and reinserting it?.. just to check if you have the same problems.. i have searched the web and have found that many people are having this problem..
you might just want to check if you have this problem because you will never know when you might drop your mini and suddenly your data is lost!.. just like me.. argggg
I don't have this problem but my friend in HK does.

I have tried this solution.. i turned on flight mode.. waited about 3 minutes.. remove the battery, turned back on and the mini still hard resets thank god for sprite backup tho..
No need to test this as this is standard behavior for all pocket pcs (well wm5.0 says it will solve this with persistent storage) if you remove the battery and the backup battery is drained (i think the backup lasts a few minutes only)... YOUR DEVICE WILL HARD RESET. Again this is the same with all Pocket PCs may it be Phone Ed or Regular PPC. Power Drain (Main/Backup Batt) = Hard Reset. So keep your device juiced up always, and please do regular backups.
@benny: you said: "if you remove the battery and the backup battery is drained (i think the backup lasts a few minutes only)... YOUR DEVICE WILL HARD RESET"
but in my and Nutdhanai's case, both main n backup baterry ARE 100%. and we just take out the battery for 10secs (just to try) !!! anybody else can give explanation for our problem?? could it be the backup battery dead???
i made little experience last night. i let the MAIN battery till ONE (1) %, but BACKUP STILL 100%. then i went sleep for about 8 hours. in the morning, i CAN NOT turn my mini at all... pressed power and nothing. then i plug it to my desktop via usb. and it come suddently, without any hard reset!! i immediately straight away check the battery status, its said : MAIN: 0% (charging) and BACKUP: 100% !!!! how coudl it charged my backup battery back to 100% in only 2 seconds after i plug the usb cable?? its very strange!
what will happen normally when the main battery going down till 0% ?? i should use the backup batt, right?? please help us (me n nutdhannai). .
thanks all!!!
hard resets
Hi Guys I went through a phase of hard resets when changing the battery. I found out it was because I hadn't fully moved the locking tab into place. I don't know if this would be the case with your machine. good luck!
@ chop:
no, had try this long time ago, still got hard reset.. unlucky, i think we dont have someone who actually work as XDA technician in this forum to confirm this kind of problem

Hi guys!
I've no Magican, but an HTC Himalaia (QTEK2020). But i've got the same problem at my device, too.
Seemed to be an driver-bug?
I'm using Windows Mobile 2003 - ROM 1.72 - official edition (non "beta").
I know, that my problem is here in the false forum, but i want to give our these note, so that anybody could be found the solve in a softwaresoultion?
Sorry for my worst english!
Greetings from Germany,
Christopher
No more hard resets for me !
Hi guys,
FYI - my magician is an O2 Mini version.
When I had hard reset problems.. I was running QTEK 1.11 WWE and QTEK 1.12 WWE ROM, both which cause my magician to hard reset when I remove my battery.
Today I was going to send my magician to the service center so I decided to flash my magician with O2 ROM, I flashed my magician with O2 1.11 WWE ROM then I allow the ext rom to install all the applications that it was suppose to (I didnot soft reset to avoid ext rom installation)
Then i figured I should test whether the magician still hard resets or not... I took the battery out and then put it back in... turned it on.. expecting hard reset.. BUT NO!! my magician didNOT hard reset!!! OMG.. I am so happy..
so.. to summarise.. I am not too sure whether the QTEK ROMs are the cause for my magician hard reset or not.. because my girlfriends magician is also an O2 Mini and its running iMate or QTEK 1.11 WWE with Big Storage (definately not O2 ROM) and she doesnot get the hard reset problem.. BUT I can confirm that reflashing my O2 magician to O2 ROM solved my hard reset problem however, I cannot guarantee that this solution will work with other magicians but it might be worth a try..
So anyone having hard reset problems when battery is removed should try flashing their magician to the ROMs provided by your Make.. ie.. iMate Jam should flash with iMate ROM, O2 Mini should flash with O2 ROMs etc...ALSO you should let the extended rom install what ever applications it needs ok.
Let us know how you get on..
I will now try to upgrade my O2 Mini to JAM 1.12 WWE ROM and MKS Big Storage and see whether I will get hard reset again.

Qtek 2020 hard resets when I replace battery

I have a Qtek 2020 ROM ver. 1.72.00WWE, Radio ver. 1.14.00, Protocol ver. 1337.24 ExtRom ver. 1.72.750, when I remove the battery to replace it with a charged one the device performs hard reset and I have to re-install all my programs again!! (painful) Is this normal? What should I do?
This is not normal, but I don't know what you can do about it. I am sure glad mine doesn't hard reset when I change batteries...
...
Check your backup-battery. Probably is it discharged(from unknown reason coz it should be charged while the main battery is inserted)or broken. Visit a service place(or do it at your home)for replace the backup battery.
My XDA II has exactly the same problem, even though Windows reports the backup battery as having a full charge, if i remove the main battery, or the main battery dies, the backup battery fails to kick in and i loose everything.
Although this shouldnt be a problem now im using WM2005 it would still be nice to know how to replace the backup battery for my device and what battery i need to buy.
If anyone could write a quick guide or point me towards one that has been written before it would be really helpful!
...
Somewhere at the Wiki's page is the hardware overview and he has there some fotos of the mainboard with description. You'll fund the battery and replace that afterwards. But before try to downgrade OS. Maybe is it a bug of WM05.
Ahh sorry I guess I didn't explain that too well, my device was doing it before I upgraded to WM2005 on both WM2003 and WM2003SE it hasn't done it on 2005 yest although thats because ive not given it chance to lol
My backup battery shows 100% when I take the main off. Have you tried taking the main battery off whith WM2005?
Is it possible that the backup battery is bad and the status showing 100% ?
To old backup battery
You probably have to old backup battery (like BIOS battery in PC)
try this:

Battery indicator stuck on 100%

Hi all,
I've got this problem after upgrading my Rom and Ext Rom on my T-Mobile MDA Compact. First of all it's turned into an I-mate, but that's not a real problem. The only thing is that the battery indicator is stuck at 100% at all times. So now I use my MDA untill it has even used up the backup battery and goes dead. I'd like to restore my battery indicator. Can you someone help me on this one?
Thanks,
Steven.
That sounds very weird. If a hard reset can't fix it, I guess a ROM update is the only option left?

Zillion,
have you tried a 3rd party app like BattMon2k to see if the same problem occurs? If such an app will work properly, you can use that as a solution until your ROM problem is fixed.

thanks for the suggestions
I had the same problem. But after buyin a new akku, it works. Seems to be a problem of the akku.

but a little more wierd..
at first moment my batt was stuck on 100%
now it is stuck at 99%!!!
what sould i do?

Backup Battery

Hi all
This might be a silly question but I'll ask it anyways
I've had many different PDA's and on all of them I can remenber also seeing 2 batery indicators (main and backup battery).
On my Qtek 9000 I only see the main battery in my system.
Does this mean the Qtek 9000 does not have one or just that WM5 is not able to show it?
Just curious.
Thnx
Greetz to all
Djslash
WM 5 is designed to store OS and main applications in ROM rather than RAM, so a backup battery is not eneded as the memory is non-volatile. What that means is that if you leave the device for a week and the battery comlpetely dies, when you finally charge it up everything is still there. This is great!
Thanx that answers my question really well.

Deep Sleep!!

Hi all ,
As you guys are aware of the last POst on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315745
Now am facing a new issue ...
Even yesterday my phone was charged with more than 90% of Batt..
the phone did showed the GREEN SIGNAL LED but with the screen off..(power saving mode enabled to save batt)
but when i pressed the power button the PROPHET refused to wake up-
I had to reset, but than the same problem as earlier i had posted in thread..
The prophet dint power on at all!!!after removing batt and installing after some 10Min no solution...
Finally as earlier the prophet wokeup all by itself...
But to my surprise the batt was around only 80%
Also one weared thing is that the brightness will go to zero as i connect to USB or charger!!
My question :
Why this happens (have just hard reset my phone a couple of days back)
Why the batt drained by around 12% that too in a matter of just 20minutes when the prophet was not ON at all...
Note:have installed the BatteryStatus-Plugin the CPU is not overclocked by me its at 195Mhz...
sorry to start a new thread as i thought this can help others also..
Thanks
Chirag
