Next Steps to enable Phone calls on T-Mobile Tab? - Galaxy Tab General

Yes, I know...the subject has been beaten to death with a wet noodle, and then beaten again. However, I just can't find an answer for this scenario specifically in each of the threads I've read (eyes bleeding now...have read em all). So, I'd greatly appreciate a hand, and please don't bash me for reaching out for the help.
(NOT asking HOW to enable phone calling...I've seen all those posts...just asking if the following will work to do the same)
Here's my current dilemna....
I'm running Overcome v1.2.0 with the Overcome Kernel included (have converted to ext4). ((shows up as Model GT-P1000 / Baseband t849uvjjb / Kernel 2.6.32.9)) I DO have the phone dialer with this Rom (if that means anything in my progression)
1. So...can I now flash a modem to enable me to make calls using my T-Mobile SIM from my Galaxy S Vibrant?
2. OR...do I need to flash a Euro Rom specifically (roto jme v4 + roto 2g modem?), and not use the Overcome Rom?
2a. Is the roto JMI v2 an upgrade over the JMI v4 firmware?
Thanks in advance for you assistance...happy to buy you a beer for the help!

You need to download the european modem.
Download it here
http://db.tt/kM2Vbwa
Download heimdall. Just Google it and download it for your respective OS.
-put ur tab in download mode
-install the drivers
-choose the modem option
-pick the file u just downloaded
-click start
-restart the tab
You will get edge and voice
From the Tab.

That did the trick...very easy, thanks much!

(Q)...HOWTO......Upgrade Path

Please Help.
I have the US-Tmobile tab (SGH-T849). As you can see in the attached file, it has the JJB Firmware.
It is rooted with Clockwork Recovery installed and Sim-Unlocked.
Strangely, I cannot find this JJB rom on the Samsung website (USA latest "JJx" is JJ3) - so I guess mine is older than Oct 2010. Anyway, I want to flash the latest EURo ROM (JMC) that is available to make voice calls with this device.
Tell me what ROMS I need to flash to get from JJB >> JMC, Please?
What I could find in the forums so far is the examples to first flash JM6, and/or JMA and then higher. Is that the upgrade path I need to take and if not, what ROMS do I need to flash?
Thanks
I second this. I have the tmo tab, looking to go up to jma but so confused about all the pit files and such. I have read over and over but nothing its clear enough about the type of tab it works on and I have a feeling I cant just flash the whole jma.tar to my tab as is
I third that.

I fourth that.. Any expert here to help us?

Updating the Galaxy Tab to the latest firmware !

Hey guys
I'm running the P1000JXJJ1, FroYo JPJJ2 firmware on my Tab, and samfirmware states P1000JVJL1 is the latest one !
so I was advised NOT to use KIES, and ODIN was better !!
My tab is rooted with OCLF set, Just a quick question, Odin will delete all my data and also I believe that I'd have to re-ROOT the device right?
another question is since I didn't have market out of the box, the product sales code has been changed to XSG.
thanks a lot guys in advance
Cheers
Jackie
if u use oclf, undo oclf b4 update firmware, kies or odin works fine for me, i'll only use odin when i screw up with my tab
and will I have to re root the device and also will ODIN delete all my data?
Hi,
searching for something else I accidentily found this thread.
Maybe my experince might be of any interest: got the galaxy tab 3 days ago, installed KIES and instantly got a message to update the firmware to Froyo JK5. I followed the suggestion to save my data which I regret later, because it took very long (had already copied a lot of videos to the internal sd) and couldn´t stop it. To cut it short:
the update was successful and nothing deleted, just everything in place. Also synchronized Outlook contacts, though at 96% it got stuck - waited a few minutes, then broke up and all contacts had been transferred fine.
(don´t know, if firmware is different for other countries...)
Odin will not delete your data if you did not choose to repartition, no need to use pit file to repartition if you are just upgrading fw from the same region..safest is still via KIES
To correct some mis-information from above. Flashing with Odin can delete your data, it depends on what components are included in the image you flash. If you flash an official ROM with Kies you should not loose your data but there is always a risk of an issue occurring during any flash that could lead to data loss. Unless you flash a pre-rooted custom ROM you will loose root and SU during a flash. These can be re-applied easily to the SGT using the Super One-Click method.
Redardless of what flashing method you use, if you use RyanZA's OCLF you must undo the lag fix before you flash, otherwise you will certainly loose data and possibly end up with a corrupt system that won't boot (I had first hand experience of this early on in my flashing days with my SGS!). You shouldn't really need to apply a lagfix to the SGT as it doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the SGS.
Finally, flashing with Odin can lead to product code being changed, especially if the ROM you flash isn't intended for the normal product code of your device. There are various ways to restore your poduct code, look in the Samsung Galaxy S forums for suggestions on how to do this as the basic construction of the ROMs is very similar between the two devices from that point of view. Also, be aware that people with SGS devices have reported loosing their IMEI while flashing with Odin. If this happens you will end up with a WiFi only device unless you backed up your /efs folder before you flashed. There's lots of info in the SGS forums about this and it's worth a read if you are new to flashing. I haven't heard of anyone with a SGT loosing their IMEI yet but it's worth taking precautions.
Happy flashing folks!!
thanks a bunch guys, I'm now running the latest version !!
was just trying to install the latest gingerbread theme from the forums !! will let you all know how that went

Go to the Android Development section.
Look up Overcome and BOCA for the Galaxy Tab. Both a great however I prefer BOCA. The current release is 2.3.4 but 2.3.7 is in the works.
If you follow the instructions for BOCA you will have a GTab that feels like it was newly born again.

Yes. Follow the instructions on the magrathea site or overcome
Use overcome instructions to instal stock GB 5. It tells you the pit and modem to use for your tab.
Then install the overcome kernel and reboot. It will root the tab and format the storage.
Then you install the Boca zip over the overcome kernel.
If you just want overcomes Rom follow their instructions. They make it simple

Roto JME Firmware on AU OPTUS Tab?

Hi All,
Hope this is the right forum for this, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience on loading the ROTO JME Firmware onto an Optus Tab, and if so, what were the improvements and were there any traps to watch out for considering the carrier lock?
I had a quick look through the ROTO JME Forum, and can't see much specific.
Regards,
bvd81
I have roto jme on the opus tab. One of the first things i did was remove the carrier lock (now works with three and telstra sims) search on this forum for info
I went straight from stock to the jm series firmware and its much much faster now just write down your internet and mms apn details as mine were wiped when upgrading.
Also if you use the optus apps make sure you only use roto upgrade package or it will wipe them.

Hi Ghostwalker9
Can you pease tell me how you flashed that ROTO JME to the Optus Tab?
I tried using Odin, but I guess it only recognises the Samsung Tab, so do I need the full version of clockworkmod?
Also, did you solve your optus sim problem with the JRE ROM?
Thanks
Greg

Did you install the usb drivers for the tab, and were you in downloading mode?
it should recognize the tab regardless of whats on it
Hi
Yep, had usb drivers installed, can access with adb. Not sure what download mode is though. Will research that one.
So when its in download mode should I use odin to flash the firmware?
Also, just so I'm clear when I say Optus Tab I mean the ZTE V9 tab that Optus has branded, not the Optus version of the Samsung Galaxy tab.
Thanks
Hey does anyone have the stock Optus (current) ROM backed up with all apn, sms, settings, if so please PM me with a link.
Thanks heaps

I would also appreciate such a link, as some initial glitch with Titanium backup caused me to lose some standard Optus apps prior to a Roto or Nandroid backup.
PLEASE: Take care if you try the batch option to "Integrate updates of system apps into ROM".
While I have no problems with all the great ROMs here, it would be good to go back to stock if I felt the need. Especially to finish off my initial Australian app subscription as I cannot find this app anywhere else.
Much appreciated if possible.
BTW: I am currently on Overcome v1.4.0 and like it very much. The Roto ROMs were also very good.
I'm pretty sure I've done a backup via titanium, but havent tried to restore from that, also i removed overcome 1.4 as thought i had wifi issues which when restored from OEM backup that OC1.4 performed it bricked it, so I had to use a full roto conversion which changed my modem & i assume pit as well.

HELP! Rooted now no 3g!!

HELP PLEASE!
Just tryed to root my Samsung Galaxy TAB GT-P1000 (original 7" 3G Model)
ROM is Samsung 2.3.3 gingerbread.xwjp9 .. i realy need to find this download or the stock kernel to flash back to get 3g
i flashed CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar to it to get root etc not knowing that it was ment only for the GSM models which in terms means wifi only i guess as now my tab no longer has Market Place nor trys to connect to Mobile Network.
Any one got a download link or a rooted Kernel that will work PLZ!!
I don't know much about CF-Root method of rooting.
But.. "meant for GSM modem" does not mean wifi only.
It means not for CDMA or Wifi version.
You may want to grab the GB Stock Save v5 from Overcome website.
The thread is here

Follow the instruction guide but you really only need to do the very first step.
Unfortunately the guide page has broken pictures.
Edit:
See this post, phlooke has kindly posted a google cache copy of the original page that still has pictures.

So just follow the guide for Re-stocking and stop there if you don't want to switch to overcome ROM

So I wanna Root my phone, i need help!

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000M Model and I wanna root it so I can have the newest firmware and cool features etc...
I have Odin installed and I know how to make my phone is detected in ODIN via USB (in download mode)
Before going any further and destroying my phone I wanna know some step by step for rooting my phone.
Like , I know nothing of the process... Could someone provide some good recent tutorial with the newest (not Beta) firmware I can get ?
My phone is currently 100% Stock.
Let me know If you have any advices, or good links to provide me...
N/B. Obviously I did some researchs... All I found so far are tutorials that says like : Your phone must be already running X.XX version (which are not supported on the s1) and be Rooted. Nothing really helpful for my stock galaxy.
Thx in advance

Yeah for rooting I think its best to leave someone alone for that, if you can't figure out how to root the phone then you should prob not be messing with it in the first place.
Just read the sticky notes and they are pretty easy to explain how to do it.

yes,good luck.

I have a M version and i can tell you, it doesnt matter. All canadian models of phones are VERY close to international, so you can use all their guides.
So to root:
1. Download either devil kernel or semaphore .tar file from respective threads. Flash them under PDA in odin, no re-partition. Leave everything else.
2. Your phone will not boot, DONT WORRY. Since recoveries are packaged with the kernel on this phone, all we are after is the custom recovery. We dont need the phone to boot.
3. Download Cyanogenmod 9 nightly/rc2. They are virtually bug free and not beta.
4. Flash it from your custom recovery!
5. Now when you flash cm9, it will change your baseband. You will have horrid signal, so flash back to a KG3 modem. You can find it, there is a big thread. And if the modem says nexus s cm7/9, its okay, it will work.
6. Wipe Data/factory Reset from recovery.
7. Have fun with it
