(Q)...HOWTO......Upgrade Path - Galaxy Tab General

Please Help.
I have the US-Tmobile tab (SGH-T849). As you can see in the attached file, it has the JJB Firmware.
It is rooted with Clockwork Recovery installed and Sim-Unlocked.
Strangely, I cannot find this JJB rom on the Samsung website (USA latest "JJx" is JJ3) - so I guess mine is older than Oct 2010. Anyway, I want to flash the latest EURo ROM (JMC) that is available to make voice calls with this device.
Tell me what ROMS I need to flash to get from JJB >> JMC, Please?
What I could find in the forums so far is the examples to first flash JM6, and/or JMA and then higher. Is that the upgrade path I need to take and if not, what ROMS do I need to flash?
Thanks

I second this. I have the tmo tab, looking to go up to jma but so confused about all the pit files and such. I have read over and over but nothing its clear enough about the type of tab it works on and I have a feeling I cant just flash the whole jma.tar to my tab as is

I third that.

I fourth that.. Any expert here to help us?

Updating the Galaxy Tab to the latest firmware !

Hey guys
I'm running the P1000JXJJ1, FroYo JPJJ2 firmware on my Tab, and samfirmware states P1000JVJL1 is the latest one !
so I was advised NOT to use KIES, and ODIN was better !!
My tab is rooted with OCLF set, Just a quick question, Odin will delete all my data and also I believe that I'd have to re-ROOT the device right?
another question is since I didn't have market out of the box, the product sales code has been changed to XSG.
thanks a lot guys in advance
Cheers
Jackie
if u use oclf, undo oclf b4 update firmware, kies or odin works fine for me, i'll only use odin when i screw up with my tab
and will I have to re root the device and also will ODIN delete all my data?
Hi,
searching for something else I accidentily found this thread.
Maybe my experince might be of any interest: got the galaxy tab 3 days ago, installed KIES and instantly got a message to update the firmware to Froyo JK5. I followed the suggestion to save my data which I regret later, because it took very long (had already copied a lot of videos to the internal sd) and couldn´t stop it. To cut it short:
the update was successful and nothing deleted, just everything in place. Also synchronized Outlook contacts, though at 96% it got stuck - waited a few minutes, then broke up and all contacts had been transferred fine.
(don´t know, if firmware is different for other countries...)
Odin will not delete your data if you did not choose to repartition, no need to use pit file to repartition if you are just upgrading fw from the same region..safest is still via KIES
To correct some mis-information from above. Flashing with Odin can delete your data, it depends on what components are included in the image you flash. If you flash an official ROM with Kies you should not loose your data but there is always a risk of an issue occurring during any flash that could lead to data loss. Unless you flash a pre-rooted custom ROM you will loose root and SU during a flash. These can be re-applied easily to the SGT using the Super One-Click method.
Redardless of what flashing method you use, if you use RyanZA's OCLF you must undo the lag fix before you flash, otherwise you will certainly loose data and possibly end up with a corrupt system that won't boot (I had first hand experience of this early on in my flashing days with my SGS!). You shouldn't really need to apply a lagfix to the SGT as it doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the SGS.
Finally, flashing with Odin can lead to product code being changed, especially if the ROM you flash isn't intended for the normal product code of your device. There are various ways to restore your poduct code, look in the Samsung Galaxy S forums for suggestions on how to do this as the basic construction of the ROMs is very similar between the two devices from that point of view. Also, be aware that people with SGS devices have reported loosing their IMEI while flashing with Odin. If this happens you will end up with a WiFi only device unless you backed up your /efs folder before you flashed. There's lots of info in the SGS forums about this and it's worth a read if you are new to flashing. I haven't heard of anyone with a SGT loosing their IMEI yet but it's worth taking precautions.
Happy flashing folks!!
thanks a bunch guys, I'm now running the latest version !!
was just trying to install the latest gingerbread theme from the forums !! will let you all know how that went

Go to the Android Development section.
Look up Overcome and BOCA for the Galaxy Tab. Both a great however I prefer BOCA. The current release is 2.3.4 but 2.3.7 is in the works.
If you follow the instructions for BOCA you will have a GTab that feels like it was newly born again.

Yes. Follow the instructions on the magrathea site or overcome
Use overcome instructions to instal stock GB 5. It tells you the pit and modem to use for your tab.
Then install the overcome kernel and reboot. It will root the tab and format the storage.
Then you install the Boca zip over the overcome kernel.
If you just want overcomes Rom follow their instructions. They make it simple

so i dont need to flash stock rom like i always do with my SGS before installing any custom rom?

how do i install roms on galaxy tab 7 bell? help

can some body tell me how i can install custom rom on my galaxy tab from bell? i have rooted my galaxy tab but when i downloaded the rom manager, it doesnt have the correct flash for recovery, can some body help out please?
Please search first.
Having said that, are there any custom ROMS available for your specific Tab? Have you looked around the development fora?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
there are some custom roms for the tab, im having problem flashing cmw mod thats all, it doesnt have the galaxy tab bell version under the flash choices
CWM is not the only way to flash roms. There's also heimdall. Which Tab specifically do you have? A model number would help.
model#:gt-p1000m
You should be able to flash any gsm rom, other bell users might be able to verify, using ODIN, Heimdall or cwm. !st thing I'd do is read up on ODIN ver.1.7. Then read up on Heimdall. The more ways to flash you know the better chance, if something goes awry, you can fix it.
Being a gt-p1000 variant means you are a gsm tablet. Only flash gsm roms, wifi only and cdma roms WILL brick your tab.
Also be a good Idea to check you don't have locked bootloaders.. Check here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071 . look for bootloader patch.apk
Will check if bootloaders are locked and ask if you want to unlock or will say bootloaders are good to go.
Find the rom you want to install, read up on how to install - each chef generally has instructions.
Have fun....
Go to the overcome thread, doesn't matter which one for a tutorial on how to flash using ODIN, it has pictures for those that like visual stuff...

Please at least take 5 minutes to go read some threads instead of just jumping in and assuming you can just install CWM and be ready.

Flashed with Overcome need to go back to a Stock release

Hi!
I flashed my P1000 Tab to Firmware 2.3.3 from Overcome before I sold it to a friend. He now wants to resell it on so I want to reflash it back to a standard Samsung ROM so they in turn can do updates in Kies etc.
What is the easiest way to do it - go back to a factory ROM?
I have had a look on Overcome and they say to go to the samfirmware site but I'm not sure which one I want as I seem to be going around in circles.
The tablet is in Australia so it would need to be a ROM for Australia.
Can someone point me in the right direction of what I need to do and where I get the ROM I need etc?
Thanks

Not sure where you'd find one but there were Roto backups of the Telstra ROM floating around somewhere. I don't think theres any ROM dumps for Optus (I've been looking for one for ages) anywhere, but you might be able to try using one of the stock Euro ROMs and see what Kies will do with that.
Remember, however that neither Telstra nor Optus ever released a Gingerbread update and are unlikely to at this point, so Kies probably won't be all that useful.
Hi
So I downloaded this files called P1000NUBJP7_UUBJP7_UBJP3, but now dunno what to do.
Do I install it via Odin somehow, the file above contains a PIT file and also a .rfs file which I guess is the firmware as it is 250Mb.
When I try and add the item for CSC and PDA in Odin there are none in that archive!
Thanks
Ernie

Although there we talked about T-Mobile tab, it is exactly the same as p1000

I rooted and installed a custom ROM on the wife’s tab not long ago. Can't give you specifics as you build is different, and my way might be the best (still learning) but it worked.
Flash the latest firmware if you haven't got it already. Do this using Odin and the appropriate rom. Search the forums on how to do this. It's very important to understand how to flash with odin.
Root it. Do by searching for an appropriate root zip, boot into recovery and install. Or other option is to use the SuperOneClick root programme by ShortFuse. I think it works on the P1000. Again, search on forum for how to root. Good to search for “root” and the build number you have.
Find the rom you want and put a copy of it on the tablet somewhere. Reboot into recovery and install zip from location. Most custom rom's come with instructions on how to do this so read carefully.
I know it isn’t detailed but I hope it helps you.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Help (T-mobile) SGH-T779

OK, I walk into a client yesterday and hands me three of these. The desired end result is to get them all running on ICS becasue Jelly Bean isnt certified to use a piece of software that they need to run.
Well, he tried to this on his own and managed to soft brick it. I can get to Odin but any attempt at trying to push what I think is a valid ROM to it triggers a reboot as it should but then it just sits on the samsung screen.
The version of Odin I am using is 1.85
The ROM I am trying to push is: cwm_recovery_espresso10att_childofthehorn.tar(Only one i could find that I thought might work)I just want to get this one to boot.
Something that I have noticed and not sure if it is an issue is the drivers. Not all of them installed but Odin did see the device. I cant currently get the device to power up so I cant tell you the exact one.
As for the other two. Is there a tried and true method to downgrade these two devices? What ROM should i use? Is there a way to backup the current ROM as a recovery point. etc.
Sorry for all the questions. I spent most of the day yesterday plowing through google and this forum and it appears as though this is not a very popular device thus not a whole lot of information on it.
Also should this work on the two that curently boot up.

Thanks in advance for any insight and/or advice.
Why are you trying to install ATT ROMs on the t-mobile tablets? If you want ICS stock for the t779 then go to sammobile.com, hit the firmware tab, and select the ICS ROM for your tablets. You will need to register there to see the downloads. Use odin to install.

you can find official tmobile firmwares at sammobile and then use odin to install. If you need to root when you are done follow instructions here
there is an official ics rom there
