[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Help (T-mobile) SGH-T779 - Galaxy Tab 2 General

OK, I walk into a client yesterday and hands me three of these. The desired end result is to get them all running on ICS becasue Jelly Bean isnt certified to use a piece of software that they need to run.
Well, he tried to this on his own and managed to soft brick it. I can get to Odin but any attempt at trying to push what I think is a valid ROM to it triggers a reboot as it should but then it just sits on the samsung screen.
The version of Odin I am using is 1.85
The ROM I am trying to push is: cwm_recovery_espresso10att_childofthehorn.tar(Only one i could find that I thought might work)I just want to get this one to boot.
Something that I have noticed and not sure if it is an issue is the drivers. Not all of them installed but Odin did see the device. I cant currently get the device to power up so I cant tell you the exact one.
As for the other two. Is there a tried and true method to downgrade these two devices? What ROM should i use? Is there a way to backup the current ROM as a recovery point. etc.
Sorry for all the questions. I spent most of the day yesterday plowing through google and this forum and it appears as though this is not a very popular device thus not a whole lot of information on it.
Also should this work on the two that curently boot up.

Thanks in advance for any insight and/or advice.

Why are you trying to install ATT ROMs on the t-mobile tablets? If you want ICS stock for the t779 then go to sammobile.com, hit the firmware tab, and select the ICS ROM for your tablets. You will need to register there to see the downloads. Use odin to install.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I497 using xda premium

you can find official tmobile firmwares at sammobile and then use odin to install. If you need to root when you are done follow instructions here
there is an official ics rom there

Updating the Galaxy Tab to the latest firmware !

Hey guys
I'm running the P1000JXJJ1, FroYo JPJJ2 firmware on my Tab, and samfirmware states P1000JVJL1 is the latest one !
so I was advised NOT to use KIES, and ODIN was better !!
My tab is rooted with OCLF set, Just a quick question, Odin will delete all my data and also I believe that I'd have to re-ROOT the device right?
another question is since I didn't have market out of the box, the product sales code has been changed to XSG.
thanks a lot guys in advance
Cheers
Jackie
if u use oclf, undo oclf b4 update firmware, kies or odin works fine for me, i'll only use odin when i screw up with my tab
and will I have to re root the device and also will ODIN delete all my data?
Hi,
searching for something else I accidentily found this thread.
Maybe my experince might be of any interest: got the galaxy tab 3 days ago, installed KIES and instantly got a message to update the firmware to Froyo JK5. I followed the suggestion to save my data which I regret later, because it took very long (had already copied a lot of videos to the internal sd) and couldn´t stop it. To cut it short:
the update was successful and nothing deleted, just everything in place. Also synchronized Outlook contacts, though at 96% it got stuck - waited a few minutes, then broke up and all contacts had been transferred fine.
(don´t know, if firmware is different for other countries...)
Odin will not delete your data if you did not choose to repartition, no need to use pit file to repartition if you are just upgrading fw from the same region..safest is still via KIES
To correct some mis-information from above. Flashing with Odin can delete your data, it depends on what components are included in the image you flash. If you flash an official ROM with Kies you should not loose your data but there is always a risk of an issue occurring during any flash that could lead to data loss. Unless you flash a pre-rooted custom ROM you will loose root and SU during a flash. These can be re-applied easily to the SGT using the Super One-Click method.
Redardless of what flashing method you use, if you use RyanZA's OCLF you must undo the lag fix before you flash, otherwise you will certainly loose data and possibly end up with a corrupt system that won't boot (I had first hand experience of this early on in my flashing days with my SGS!). You shouldn't really need to apply a lagfix to the SGT as it doesn't seem to suffer from the same lag as the SGS.
Finally, flashing with Odin can lead to product code being changed, especially if the ROM you flash isn't intended for the normal product code of your device. There are various ways to restore your poduct code, look in the Samsung Galaxy S forums for suggestions on how to do this as the basic construction of the ROMs is very similar between the two devices from that point of view. Also, be aware that people with SGS devices have reported loosing their IMEI while flashing with Odin. If this happens you will end up with a WiFi only device unless you backed up your /efs folder before you flashed. There's lots of info in the SGS forums about this and it's worth a read if you are new to flashing. I haven't heard of anyone with a SGT loosing their IMEI yet but it's worth taking precautions.
Happy flashing folks!!
thanks a bunch guys, I'm now running the latest version !!
was just trying to install the latest gingerbread theme from the forums !! will let you all know how that went

Go to the Android Development section.
Look up Overcome and BOCA for the Galaxy Tab. Both a great however I prefer BOCA. The current release is 2.3.4 but 2.3.7 is in the works.
If you follow the instructions for BOCA you will have a GTab that feels like it was newly born again.

Yes. Follow the instructions on the magrathea site or overcome
Use overcome instructions to instal stock GB 5. It tells you the pit and modem to use for your tab.
Then install the overcome kernel and reboot. It will root the tab and format the storage.
Then you install the Boca zip over the overcome kernel.
If you just want overcomes Rom follow their instructions. They make it simple

so i dont need to flash stock rom like i always do with my SGS before installing any custom rom?

A few basic questions I am still confused about

Hi,
I am tasked with making a Friends Galaxy Apollo ( I5801) usable.
She bought it in Thailand and it is SIMlocked and currently running Eclair (2.1)
1) I first want to SIM Unlock it. I have seen multiple methods for this
This thread has a discussion :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339705
I will take a look at the youtube video first, but I am concerned that I will lose my IMEI. This seems to happen a lot. How do I back it up? I have seen instructions to backup the /efs folder and others that include a DD command. Which is the most reliable?
2) What is the easiest rooting method? Does SuperOneClick work? Do I even need to root to unlock only?
3) How do I then install a working 2.2? Is there such a thing as an Official 2.2 for the I5801? Otherwise, what is the best way to STABILITY?
4) Other Samsung phones offer packages ODIN or Heimdall ROMs that are pre-rooted in order to do a one operation (sometimes one-click) root/upgrade operation. Is there such a thing for the Apollo?
Thanks.
I tried running a search, and waaay too much confusing crap came back. I have owned several HTC, Mot and Samsung phones and am usually pretty good with this stuff...but I am just plain confused about this phone.
Any help would be appreciated
Caz

SuperOneClick is the works fine for me
For 3) www.sammobile.com/showthread.php?t=12 Scroll down to asuan firmware. Im using dxjpc as it is the latet 2.2 version for asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia etc other than India. Flash usin odin but do not flash the bootloader as there would be a possibility of a hardbrick.

1.I backup the /efs folder and also manually copy the files for additional safety.
2.if you are on 2.1, z4root works great. get the apk from here, install and root. thats it. you need to root at least to backup the /efs folder.
3.go to samfirmware.com and search i5800. install any of the latest ROMs.
4.Some "stock" ROMs themselves are pre rooted. Dunno how. Install them if you want. (eg. JPM)
Ok...my phone is now rooted and SIMunlocked. Pretty easy once you get over the fear of corrupting your IMEI data.
Now I have another question:
I REALLY want to make sure I don't brick this phone, but I think I want to upgrade it to
2.2...sooooo:
How can I be sure where the phone is from and therefore which firmware to flash?
I *know* the phone was purchased in Thailand, but I can't find the firmware currently on the phone referenced anywhere for the Apollo.
The firmware baseband is DXJG2 and the build number is DXJH2. A quick google search yields only hits for a "Galaxy Beam" ??
Am I asking for trouble flashing this puppy? My friend probably does not care that much about ECLAIR vs. FROYO...I just think that FROYO is a lot more modern.
I am just afraid that I have a freakish phone in my hands and that it won't react in a "nice" way.
Any pointers?
If you do not flash the bootloader it is not possible to hardbrick the phone. Only a softbrick is possible and a reflash will solve the problem. Android firmwares have been shifted to sammobile.com and samfirmware does not provide them anymore if im not wrong. In froyo you will have a bit more space for appilcations and since your friend in from Thailand(in asia) i suggest u flash an asian firmware. Dxjpc is working find for me
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
u neednt be afraid of bricking the phone. and it is not necessary that u flash only asian frimwares. look around the forum to see which f/w works best for the majority of people and flash it. before flashing, make sure u remove boot and sbl files from the downloaded f/w. then u have 0% chance of hardbricking the phone.
cheers

So I wanna Root my phone, i need help!

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000M Model and I wanna root it so I can have the newest firmware and cool features etc...
I have Odin installed and I know how to make my phone is detected in ODIN via USB (in download mode)
Before going any further and destroying my phone I wanna know some step by step for rooting my phone.
Like , I know nothing of the process... Could someone provide some good recent tutorial with the newest (not Beta) firmware I can get ?
My phone is currently 100% Stock.
Let me know If you have any advices, or good links to provide me...
N/B. Obviously I did some researchs... All I found so far are tutorials that says like : Your phone must be already running X.XX version (which are not supported on the s1) and be Rooted. Nothing really helpful for my stock galaxy.
Thx in advance

Yeah for rooting I think its best to leave someone alone for that, if you can't figure out how to root the phone then you should prob not be messing with it in the first place.
Just read the sticky notes and they are pretty easy to explain how to do it.

I have a M version and i can tell you, it doesnt matter. All canadian models of phones are VERY close to international, so you can use all their guides.
So to root:
1. Download either devil kernel or semaphore .tar file from respective threads. Flash them under PDA in odin, no re-partition. Leave everything else.
2. Your phone will not boot, DONT WORRY. Since recoveries are packaged with the kernel on this phone, all we are after is the custom recovery. We dont need the phone to boot.
3. Download Cyanogenmod 9 nightly/rc2. They are virtually bug free and not beta.
4. Flash it from your custom recovery!
5. Now when you flash cm9, it will change your baseband. You will have horrid signal, so flash back to a KG3 modem. You can find it, there is a big thread. And if the modem says nexus s cm7/9, its okay, it will work.
6. Wipe Data/factory Reset from recovery.
7. Have fun with it

Stock t580 ROM

I need one. Anyone?
If you need to reinstall the stock rom, you can do it from samsung kies, it will grab the latest rom for you.
You can also download it from samsung mobile website (do a search), but you will need to register
Kies would not work with my tablet, referred me to Smart Switch, which didn.t work either. Downloaded a stock ROM and tried to ODIN it, hung part way through. So, not having a ROM or as recovery, IreODINed TWRP and am flashing Ultra Lean ROM. Back where I started....

Is it then fair to say that there is no way to bring stock Android to a Tab A T580? I hope I am wrong, there is tons of bloatware in the T580, and it gets in the way of several applications, specially games.
Any suggestions on how to stock-ROM a Tab A T580 will be hugely appreciated. Cheers
I would be interested in a stock ROM for my sm-t580 as well. (USA version). I spent a good portion of today looking for one. I confirm also that Samsung's website was of no use! Unless I'm just missing something. But again spent most of the day lookong all over the net.
*Edit* - noob mistake. I got Samsung Kies to work this morning.... When it asks you to choose model number and serial number... Make sure you type it exactly. It's case sensitive. Give it a shot found my stock SM-T580 firmware and is downloading now.

Just to be clear... By "stock SM-T580 firmware" do you mean
1) The original firmware that comes with the tablet when you buy it? or
2) Clean, unadulterated Android (Stock Android)? ==> I am looking for this, anyone can help with that? TIA
The stock firmware is readily available at many firmware hosts.
UPDATO.COM, SAMSUNG-UPDATES.COM, SAMMOBILE etc.
All these have the firmware for the t580.

Help with a troubled Tab 4 7.0! (Downgrade & QA)

Hi community I just need help to figure out what to do with my Tab 4 7.0 the history begins this way:
I get this Tablet already used not brand new it looked to have Android Lollipop 5.1.1 when I got it and didn't appear suspicious and lend it to one of my kids, the problem begins after some time the Tablet didn't connect to the Play Store anymore proly because my kids was trying to root it via KingoRoot or other apps to mess with some games, so after that I decided to solve the problem doing a Hard Reset but it didn't work, the tablet still can't connect to the PlayStore via RH-01 error message.
So I decided to flash it with the official stockl rom from Samsung, my BIG surprise is that this Tablet never get Lollipop 5.1.1 it didn't ever get Lollipop at all accordingly to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-galaxy-tab-4-official-lollipop-5-t3102844
Because my tablet is the SM-T230NU (the model accordingly to the box is SM-T230NYKAXAR) model and that model never gets LL, so I figure it out this was a modified rom? Even in the Info about the device over settings it says the model of the device i "Nexus 5" instead of Tab 4 or whatever Samsung call this device but not Nexus 5 that is a phone from LG.
So I stopped here, because I've heard it can be dangerous to Downgrade Android versions? If not what should I do? Use Odin3 and flash the rom mentioned in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/links-stock-galaxy-tab-4-firmware-t3013128
For the T230NU USA variant? Hope u can advice me about what to do and give some tips because this will be my first flash on a device.
Thanks in advance! :laugh::good:
They probably flashed a custom rom with broken GAPPS, just restore with Odin and the official rom.

By restore u mean flash it with some of the roms provided in this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab...mware-t3013128
So there's no problem if I have 5.1.1 right now and get down to 4.2 as is the official one?
