Finally my day off!
This has been a busy week at work and a lot of changes happening so quickly I haven’t had a proper chance to use my Adam as I wanted, but now I can give you a proper review of my experience so far.
First of all I want to share some information about me just so you don’t think im a biased person or working for Notion Ink.
My name is Bruno Alexandre, im 27 years old and im from Portugal, I work in a ISP and in a daily base I deal with equipments of every kind and all kind of applications.
I’m a gadget lover, I simply adore every details that a manufacturer places on a equipment and im very picky about build quality and software design, I prefer a practical design to something with a “bling” effect.
I started following the Adam back on CES 2010, Rohan ideas and vision attracted me, his way of thinking was just what I was looking for, a project that isn’t thought to the “elites” and accessible to everyone, the concept he had back then of the Adam was simple but practical and the way he just showed Slashgear a working concept, instead of just a video or something has we've seen recently on others, shown me he wasn’t there to fool anyone and he believed in it and so did I and that’s how I started to follow Notion Ink. Every update afterwards and the open communication he had with the community was something I have never seen before and I always hoped for from other companies, the project started to get even better with the first sketches of the Adam and continuous information he kept revealing about the hardware and the design behind, to a point I could not stand any more not having it and offered to pay ahead for my Adam, even before the Pre-order was known to public. I think when a project has a future, even coming from a company we never heard before is worth investing it is worth to support, and help in anyway possible.
Hardware & Design
As you have all seen the Adam hardware is no big news, every person that likes gadgets have heard of Tegra 2, Pixel Qi and all the other features, the Adam doesn’t bring nothing new in terms of technological innovation but it does bring a innovation in design.
The way it was built is just great, it was thought to be used on a daily base in any situation imaginable, the golden ratio does make a difference! The past 2 days I have used the Adam as a console, media player, work support and as a organizer, it fulfilled every expectation I had, it felt great in any handling position, feels strong being handled in any situation I came to face during my work, there's no crackling sound or protection caps coming off easily, the fingerprints are as bad as in a smartphone, you even cant feel the real weight it has and balances perfectly even by holding with just one hand while typing with the other! Have you ever tried to use the IPAD like that ? It just wobbles on your hand unless you have a case.
My colleagues at work also tried it and they were astonished how a small company from India was able to produce such equipment, they never even heard of Notion Ink or Adam, and they just loved to work with it. One of the biggest praises was the responsiveness of the touch screen and how smooth it was on Canvas to draw a line compared with a smartphone, the processing power and the speed of opening apps, video playback and specially the sniffer, many of them were Android users and they loved it.
Everything looks too perfect doesn’t it, well now its time for the bad parts, the screen protector first of all was awful, as bad as HTC screen protectors for smart-phones all the glare and reflections plus washed out colours made me rage, so I took it off and it felt much better.
The viewing angles of Adam are not very good either, not when compared with my Asus 1005HA LED Backlit screen or the Ipad, but it wasn’t meant to be looked from the side but head-on to be able to read so I take this as a small drawback.
The screen calibration in terms of brightness to contrast ratio is very bad, you notice it more when using at dark environment like the video shows below, but this is something that I think it could be easily fixed if we had the proper tools to mess with it like a normal desktop monitor OSD. (if there’s such tool please tell me since im a android newbie)
Pixel Qi, well this really does feel great, even tho sun is lacking here in Portugal this past days, ive used the Adam on the outside a lot and I love how the pixel qi works, it feels amazing being able to read everything without any problems, unique experience. Indoors even with low light conditions for example in bed with the night stand lamp it was readable or ( you will lol ) in the toilet !
Sound quality was just .. man it was awesome, its louder than the Asus 1005HA and the bass is much better, connected to a sound system is just gives enough juice to make it worth, lacks some equalizer but I think there’s apps out there to do the job.
Camera is one of those things there’s not much to talk about, it's a 3.2 camera like many phones have, the swivel does make it good because you can just point it to what you want, using Google Goggles with it is very cool, the design here helps again, with one hand you can easily stabilize the Adam while the responsiveness of the screen helps out the shooting.
The battery when tested at work was empty after 8 hours of people messing with it, playing watching videos, testing VPN connections, downloading and navigating using the canvas, it was madness the number of fingerprints on the Adam, but it was still very readable. You could only notice the fingerprints on the borders.
Software
Well the software is another issue, the idea behind Eden is good and I love the leaves, but not every application seem to have gone under proper testing or QA, they don’t fit well with each other and don’t respond properly sometimes to the commands you give to it, one of the examples is facebook tool, the cramped look of it and the minimized information makes it really annoying to work with.
The lack of Android Market to be able to get some of the Google Apps made the experience even worst, if Genesis isn’t ready yet then the Android Market should still exist in the meanwhile.
Mail app is very good, I enjoy the UI and how simple it looks while having every feature you need, its also very useful in a job like mine where im constantly receiving emails.
QuickOffice is also great, I work a lot with excel, acrobat, word and having the Adam around is a excellent working tool, I can give support to my colleagues in real time without having to go from one side to the other getting the information they need and taking time which is essential in my job.
The browser, I was kinda of disappointed with the UI from the browser, it felt.. wrong.. hard to explain, but once I got to work with the tabs I just loved how it felt, the idea of placing them like that helps a lot when you are consulting online or trying to get updated with the latest news in the gadget world, it was a fast experience with flash always loading in the websites quickly and with no issues.
The Video Player, had some issues, as you may have noticed on the video above, the sound and video were de-sync, I was using .wmv tried also .mkv and other formats, thought it was a issue with the internal SD Card, used my external one Class 6 and had the same issue, must be codec wise.
In the end I just preferred on having the LauncherPRO as my main screen since I could customize with every widget I wanted, with no limitations whatsoever as you can see on the video below, at least until NI can deliver a better interface or Honeycomb is out.
Conclusion
I'm not an expert reviewer, nor I have experience in reviewing equipments, some of you may not agree with me on some aspects but in the end this was my experience, and I just wanted to share with you all. I enjoy every day with the Adam I have, and it will be my main support at home and works to organize my life.
Do I regret buying the Adam ? No I do not, the Adam is a great tablet.
Would I prefer the Xoom over the Adam ? I wont pay $700 for a barometer, but … I wouldn’t mind having the quality of its screen. Also I had Motorola equipments before and my experience was bad.. not with 1 but more than 4..
Hope you enjoyed.
Thanks for your review bro. I have been looking for a down to earth review for a while. I am probably waiting for the Asus transformer but I would love to try out an Adam and see if it would change my mind. I guess in the end the question is, will it get Honeycomb?

Rohan mentioned that they are working on honeycomb. If NI doesn;t bring it, the adam is pretty close to ASOP android, so I'm sure that the developers here will port it to the adam.
Thats what i hope also.
hmm..intresting review. Friend can you post some more of your experiences with Adam in detail. I would like to see how different application like
1) Rockplayer (for MKV,avi)
2) Laputa ebook reader
3) Google earth
and some good HD Games with motion sensors.
Video Playback
Do you think the video playback de-sync is because of the player?
Meaning that with another player this would not happen?
Good Review

Sure ill post tomorrow probably.
Thanks for this review man. Appreciated. Looking forward to updates on your ongoing use.
Very nice and honest review. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Have you already rooted and installed market with NIH/XDA root packs? Or just using the update released by NI?
Thanks for the review.
I have been using Eden UI on G-Tab for a few days now, and I agree that it takes a little getting used to...and some of the Apps like Mail'd are good. Browser is so-so...and the keyboard could have used "Autoprompts" for words.
Thanks LeviathanPT for the review. I'll wait to pre-order my NI 3G+Pixel QI for the "general public".
Its good to read e-books and Comics?
Thanks
@ zabaknilesh
1) Rockplayer (for MKV,avi) - Still has the same desync issue even with rockplayer
2) Laputa ebook reader - Very cool app, i like the flipping pages transition and its very smooth and accurate, the books can be read very well. Also the thick part of the adam is excelent to grab and makes the reading experience much higher.
3) Google earth - Doesnt launch just crashes
4) Some good HD Games with motion sensors. - Is there any free games i could try ?
@tokyobreeze
Yes i have rooted using NIH since genesis isnt out and i dont want a limited (by software) equipment .
@SimonCt
Yeah reading e-books is awsome, comics is something i havent tried as a appbut ive been at some comic websites and its very cool.
Try jjComics Viewer if you can, The main use for me is read e-books and comics....
For ebooks im using Aldiko, that can be conected with Calibre
Thanks for your review. Very informative!
thanks
Thanks for this usefull review!
Very good review!
Did you try to re-load google earth and still crash?
Edit:
I see they got it working on the Viewsonic over here.

Have you been able to use a browser as the Skyfire with flash on it??
Hey guys I have made a review from my new adam with pixel qi! I also added a lot of pictures and two videos (showing eden, hardware, pixel qi outside, also made a comparison from screens of galaxy s and macbook pro, ... pictures and videos are on the second page) The review is in german, but pictures and videos can say more than 1000 words

I've tried searching but haven't had much luck... some of the older (relatively) search results seem to indicate that the atrix should be capable or, at least, will be capable of doing 1080p video playback. I'm not really planning on going out of my way to find 1080 files to play on the phone, but there are a few that I already have and I'm sure I'll come across a few in the future as well.
So the questions is: Can it be done? Am I asking too much?
Thanks in advance
dude I can't even get it to play MP4's let alone any HD ****... This phone has **** for touch sensitivity too. I traded my captivate for this and I'm not too happy as of yet
I've had issues with some MP4's and others have worked. The only difference I can readily see is the video quality which is why I posted this thread. I've found a couple of programs that will actually play the files I'm having issues with but it's so laggy that it's unusable.
People need to stop commenting on the other phones they've had experience with unless it is actually useful to a thread. If it wasn't such a prevalent issue with posters, I wouldn't be an ass about it, but I really don't care how you feel about this phone compared to your captivate as that is not at all related to my original post. Even though it's completely unrelated to my thread: the touch sensitivity is fine on mine. It's amazingly responsive and better than most phones I've used.
Point of this thread: Provide any information you may have on how to play higher quality video files or any future potential to do so. If there is a reason this is not possible, please provide that information.
Again, thanks in advance to any useful information!
Before the phone was even for sale they made a statement about 1080p support, it will be added after release with a patch. Goolge atrix 1080p!
I searched but none of it seemed to be recent enough to be definitive.
Is the problem that the software doesn't make use of the capabilities of the Atrix? Some reason I hadn't thought of that when looking for an app earlier...
If rumor is true, Tegra 2 only supports a specific type of HD format or something... and its not the common type that most get ripped too.
This is a Xoom thread that is all hot about the same issue... HD video choppy, no audio, etc, etc... The Xoom uses Tegra 2 as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968640
I was able to get a 720p WMV running through RockPlayer, but I'm not sure if it's really the right quality. I haven't tried 1080p, due to the notice about the patch requirement.
I'd like to make a comparison in video playback before I preorder mine mine tomorrow.
I have one particular video in mind
Zenith Part 1 Sample mkv. It can be found via thepiratebay (official destributer, its free and legal, the video I mean, as well as the full version of it.) But you can find it elsewhere (their own website) if you have a problem with TPB.
The galaxy tab struggles to play the sample in VPlayer and refuses in the stock player to even try. I get screen glitching and slowness if it doesn't just crash.
Would someone be willing to download it (33MB) sample and comment?
Thanks.

playback is very slow. audio plays at a normal speed. used mobo for the video app.
Thanks for the test. I just tried mono on my grab plays slow but no screen glitching like my other player. I had to use soft decoding though. Unsupported by system player.
It seems video playback is no better than the gtab.
Hopefully its atleast similar I'm happy with that much.

I tried it, but because I'm using the Galaxy Tab as a comparison here, it's build in codecs don't support the sample video format and so can't play it.
You may want to wait for Samsung's upcoming GalaxyS tablets that are coming in June. Their GalaxyS phones are the only ones I know of with out-of-the-box great MP4, MKV, Xvid, and WMV support. My Xoom doesn't play a vast majority of videos that my GalaxyS Vibrant does. Presumably the GalaxyS tablets will have similar abilities.

Thanks for the info. So do we have solid dates and/or specs for hte GalaxyS tablets? I don't have the kind of patience to wait two more months unless i can clearly see £600 on the XOOM next week is wasted.

I really don't want another TouchWiz device, so I'm out as far as the Samsung's go. Any up-coming google devices? I want pure honeycomb, looks like the scales are tipping back in favour of the XOOM.

From the videos at CTIA, it's even lighter than TouchWiz3, but I can understand wanting a pure flavor of Honeycomb. That said, any pure Honeycomb ("with Google") very, very likely will not have direct, out of the box support for MKV (See: Nexus S vs Galaxy S).
That said, I know Acer and LG are coming out with some Honeycomb tablets, as well as Sony and HTC. Pretty much all "by Summer". The only one with a set date is the Sammy.
At this point, I think the Xoom is going to be the only customization-free tablet of the bunch. Until it gets a firmware update to fix the slow rendering and video playback though, it's *very* hard for me to recommend it though. I may well be returning my own in the coming days.

If it were the Nexus One of Tablets, I'd have no problem, at least we could count on the updates from Google and know it won't get dropped. But with Moto in the mix, I don't trust them to get us any updates let alone keep them going for a decent period.
I feeling now that I may end up getting one anyway and replacing it after the summer. Mainly because I'm impatient, and so far all my impatience costs me is money.
HC 3.x only supports MP4 natively. Given Samsung's strong multimedia support for its GalTab7 and GalPlayer, I'm curious if it has also added enhanced multimedia support (specifically MKV support) to the 10.1. How about AC3/DTS? Can any owner give an answer? TIA.
nope. had to install moboplayer. even then, 720p still kinda chugged. I can't find an app that has hardware accelerated playback.

I do not own any Android device... (so no access to those apps) but maybe it would be possible for you guys to actually write to people/companies behind all those players and ask them - what is the situation with this thing. Mkv/ High Profile Videos/ Tegra 2/ Honeycomb and hardware acceleration...
Do they work on it?
If not - why?
Can it be done?
And so on...
Maybe they (developers of this software) would be able to clarify situation with video playback and what can we expect in coming weeks/months.

It's a known fact that base Android does not support MKV (video players on the market address this fine for the most part, like Moboplayer) and Tegra 2 cannot hardware accelerate any high profile encoded h264 videos (either in the mp4 or mkv container) - unfortunately there is no way around that as it is a hardware limitation - stupid Nvidia.
Sucks that Samsung joined the Tegra 2 bandwagon for the Gtab 10.1. The original Gtab has better multimedia capabilities than the thanks to the Hummingbird SoC.

Problem with the Galaxy Tab 7 is that, even though it can play 720p MKV's perfectly, its only useful for TV shows. The 4GB file limit applies, and most full length movies will run 5 to 6 GB. I got around this by splitting the files but that's a pain for most people.
The XOOM doesn't have a 4GB limit on its internal storage, but I hear people claiming that the Galaxy tab 10.1 does have a 4GB limit (I kind of doubt this).
But if that were true, then even if the Galaxy tab 10.1 could play everything, a 4GB limit would prevent you from watching many downloaded full length movies. For that matter, if a 4GB file size limit is present, then even transcoded movies could be a problem - would force you to limit quality, bit rate etc.

Perhaps - dont know anything about it as with 7" screen it is to small (and uninteresting) for me.
Nevertheless I would expect it's younger brother to take all good stuff out of it and more goodies, etc..
For new 10.1 to be worse in stuff like than original GT is not even funny.

Was looking forward to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a long time. Was 100% certain it was my next tablet. Was the primary reason I held off so long on buying a XOOM. Only reason I bought the XOOM was because it was taking Samsung so long to get the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to market.
Figured I would finally have a tablet that would play videos AND do everthing else. I really liked the Tab 7 and thought the 10.1 would be a big improvement. Was rumored to have Exynos and would play everything. But when I heard it had a Tegra 2, I was really disappointed. I already have a XOOM, and see little point in buying another Tegra 2 device. They are all just basically clones of each other - same basic capabilities, with small differences here and there.
However, if I did not have another Tegra 2 based device, then the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is probably the best you can get at this time (small form factor and good screen) and would buy it without hesitation. Only other option is to wait for Kal El - Tegra 3, and hope NVIDIA doesn't screw that up as well.
Think how insanely funny that would be - a quad core powered tablet that can't play videos!

True indeed.
But what is very surprising for me is that all those big and small websites do keep very quiet about this issue. 99% of people I talk to are looking at me as a crazy person - how come??? It says in the ads it plays 1080p.! You must be wrong, etc.
I do think that ads are a bit false and that issue is BIG considering that cheaper tablets of previous generation had none of this problems for half of the price.

Than fair thin to do would be to put a "*" there and mention conditions.
You know what I am talking about.
iPad and Apple does not advertise stuff they do not do at home - and average Joe is happy.
Now, Mr Joe goes to the shop (he saw all those ads) he buys Xoom or any other Android tablet. Gets home and what? He says never again - they promised and not delivered, Android and (insert manufacturer name here) are sh..t.
I talk about ppl. who do not read to much, do not visit XDA... Apple-like users who android tablets manufacturers want to steal from apple.
Apple is even worse, they advertise "HD movie"

And the screen is not even 720p !
Oh and there is that iTunes which safeguards that Mr. Joe. He will say "My iPad can play all kind of video files, it's magical ..."
So, I believe, Android might not be for Mr. Joe ... That Mr. Joe
Because That Mr. Joe won't download movies via torrents or P2P, he will buy from iTunes hehehe ...

We've gone over this before. iPad2 can play HD movies downloaded from torrenting, in high profile 720p and MKV containter, with app store players like AVPlayerHD that doesn't need iTunes to transfer files. It's just that the screen isn't 1280x720, but it can indeed play the content and much better than any Tegra 2 tablet. I'm not a fanboy. I'm just pointing out facts when I had the Transformer and iPad 2.

You are wrong here. Many ppl. who do not know much about computers do not like apple.
Android tablets are cheaper and advertised.
All of my friends in UK who were unable to install Windows by themselves had no problems with downloads from the likes of rapidhshare...
And now most of the stuff published and downloaded are BR rips - 720p High Profile.
I could understand why Sony would be more than happy if their tablet would not support videos of that kind but Samsung...?
Yes, thats true. My point was exactly like that. IPad screen is not for HD, its a waste. And who knows, probably blitzing bitmap into that smaller resolution helps the performance.
Also Android still does not have decent MKV player. I am betting on CoreCodec t release their CorePlayer. That certainly will help MKV scene on Android.

You get what you paid for cheap Android tablets. It is not even widely advertised. When I was in Germany last week, i saw only iPad ads, no Android. No wonder here. Things like those cheapy Android tablets, let alone Xoom or Transformer. Ipad ads were everywhere.
You might have those savvy Joe friends, but there are a lot more other non savvy Joes out there. Who buy stuffs from itunes and use ipad for facebook alike
Who dont know how to unrar files from torrents, nor join split files from rapidshare.
Who dont know why the movie cannot be played because has ogg vorbis in it.
See? Those people are a lot more compare to your kind of Joe. Otherwise we will be very happy with our sociaty, because we have more savvy people around us!
Go around and ask people passing by, "do you know what MKV is?". then count who know from 100 samples.
Just to proove your point, for fun.

Yeah I look forward to CorePlayer as well. I'm just having mixed feelings how Samsung has provided info on this whole launch with all these conflicting specs. Heck even on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 microsite under the faq's it tells you to download Android File Transfer for Mac users and AFT doesn't even work with the 10.1 yet. One thing I really don't like is that one member here has reported that his Xvid avi file would not play with the stock player while it lists on the official samsung specs that Xvid and avi are supported natively. It could've been the audio was AC3 but usually the stock player will still play video, just with no sound, but his video wasn't even played at all I believe.
Either way, I'm not going to worry too much on MKV with tegra 2 tablets. I don't mind re-encoding for the next 6 or so months until Kal-el tabs start coming around... hopefully.
Gogol, you are right, nut remember that those ppl. are target. They make a volume sales, they got cash for devices and all other extra bits.
They are the ones who bought over 15 million devices last year and they are the ones android manufacturers want.
I am sorry but we here ale not that important.
And those ppl. above will get home and first time they will try to watch something they will say - android - never again.
BUT!: how would you understand this:

DivX support Yes (This feature is available in Q3 with a software update.)
Good Day
I have had the stock 101 from day one, installed all updates and find it to be a fairly good unit for a number of things except video playback. Not sure where the problem originates but this tab is useless for video playback. I am astounded on bad this tab operates. I consider it useless in its current state. I purchased the unit to read books surf and play videos nothing else. It can do the first two fairly well. I have tried just about everything that previous posts have recommended to no avail. Creating directories on the external SD card that disappear. It sometimes plays the video other times it will not. I have owned a few tabs and I consider this one to be the poorest one yet. I would not recommend the 101 to anyone that wants to watch videos without having to piss around to make the 101 operate as it should. This unit should be able to play most video types without having to resort to apps that trick it to work. I will now shut this thing down and not use it anymore. For me it is truly not worth the money I paid for it. This should never have been released to the public
I will fire up my Archos 101 and watch all of the same videos until I cannot stand it anymore. The 101 has no real video playback issues other than it does not support flash he last time I checked. It has its own flaws but it video playback is not one of them.
I really like the TF101 but I cannot overlook its clearly unstable, amazingly childish and poorly thought out video playback section. It is stock and I have not messed with it. I am not interested in spending countless hours conducting surgery on it to make it work. This tab should be able to play most videos out of the box.
My dislike for apple is slowly but surely being eroded with products such as the TF101.
ASUS or Android, you have a problem with your product. Fix it!
Not really a problem, and deffo not a "serious" one at that...
I have been playing flash videos on my TF101.
For the majority of other formats i use MX Video Player
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
Once installed it will prompt for a codec and direct you back to the market place to download it.
Good app, streams all my movies across my network when used with a cifs manager.
Funny, lots of us don't have any issues on ours.
If your rant is legit, go buy an iPad. If it isn't, go soak your head troll.
Which types of videos ?
Divx : try mx video player it's a good player and it's free
Mkv : diceplayer, paid app.
Btw : do you think you can play divx videos on the ipad out of the box ? The answer is no, so it's not better than the transformer for that purpose. And it doesn't have flash player.
Edit : the transformer can play wmv hd out of the box with honeycomb 3.2. What do you think about that ?
No troll here! Lighten up yank. Crawl back under your bankrupt rock. I enjoy my technology when it works. Just want it to work
Why do I read countless threads about such problems. They would not be there if they did not exist. I just want my unit to play stand alone on board videos without messing about. I down loaded the eight seasons of Red Dwarf. I would really like to watch on public transport.
Is that hard for you to just install an application ? If so it's also hard to transfer your videos on the tf. Then you shouldn't watch them.
Well, I hope you got that rant out of your system, because it wasn't really helpful to anyone but you. You could've summed it all up in one sentence: "Personally, I don't recommend the TF for playing videos."
I have an Archos 101 as well, and it does play video very well, because Archos is a media player company. They always have been. They paid extra for all those codecs, and skimped out on everything else. Asus made a tablet, Archos made a media player. Don't compare them.
And for the record, Diceplayer has played every file I've thrown at it. The AC3 codec pack for the Archos was $15, and it only enabled 2 or 3 new codecs. Diceplayer is $6 and it plays almost all codecs.
P.S. I still don't see how this relates to apple. Apple only supports MP4 and MOV. And if you use MOV, you probably still have an AOL account.
P.P.S. Also, what do you mean by "serious video problems"? It says in the specs what codecs it supports, and it plays them perfectly. I think you got spoiled by Archos, and thought every Android device had infinite codec support.

It obvious you have just come on, ranted and because you haven't heard what you wanted/expected you have refused to listen to any advice.
Thanks!
I was not knowingly ranting. I just lay it out on the line. I failed at diplomacy 101. Tell it like it is. But I do expect value for money. Can't say I got that with the TF101 for what I want it to do. I have 4 pc's at home. Just want to surf and watch video on a small form factor. I think many people buy a tab for just what I am doing otherwise just use your PC. I guess I really do not understand what a tab is used for.
I am aware the differences the between the two brands. I am not sure if skimped out is the right term. The Archos is 100 less. I a not expecting it to perform like the TF101. But for that 100 I should get a fully functional video player. For 400 it should work out of the box. Remember the price of a PC's is comparable. Maybe I should not expect much for 400.
I am not concerned how much a add on costs as long as it works. Convert and and it
will work.
Just trying to make a point. Apple makes a good product right out of the box. I just do not want to live in a prison cell. Ipad is still way down the list. Steve and I are not currently talking to each other.
I have tried, AVS4you, DVD fab, Handbrake. All converted as recommended. Also loaded Daroon, Mobo, Rockplayer, Rockplayer lite. I wonder how may I have to try before I get the right one. I have spent two days reading through posts and trying everyone's recommendations as stated in my post. lots of hard work. Thanks to everyone for for the countless help threads. Been there done that. Something is not right.
I stand corrected. Very serious problems was the wrong term to use. Maybe something like " 400 spent and it cannot play the most common video formats, go figure".
I still think it is a firmware problem that should never have been. Not sure if it is a hardware problem, too many inconsistencies with on again off again performance. There are too many posts out there regarding this problem for it to be a non issue or operator error.
Your right, I did get spoiled by a somewhat inferior product. It is not very often less gets more. They are meant to do the same thing, with different quality of bits.
Thanks to everyone for you help threads. I have tried about everything that is recommended. Maybe it is time to RMA it. Do not think that will fix it. I am looking for a good media player similar to the TF101 but plays common video formats. Hardware based of course. I already have a few PC's do not need another one. Any recommendations?
anyone know why I can't play .MP4 videos anymore they are from my helmet cam

What player are you using?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I think one big problem is a lot of the players are not using hardware decoding including the stock video player. Why?

You ***** and moan about having to use a program to watch video on your TF, but any of your "4" pc's are going to be the same. I find this highly entertaining. Also, you waste all this time trying things, and writing your snooty thread, that you could have spent doing a basic search to see which formats and programs work best.
Get your useless ass outta these forums, you obviously didn't watch the video or pay attention to the rules.
And instead of biting on your political jab, I'll just remind you, that without us, you'd not exist.
i have issues with mkv files in hardware decoding, it plays plays great but sound goes out after a min of playback on all players. But software decode they play fine. Give it time this tab is still a baby. It will keep growing, or so i hope

No need to convert your downloaded videos, if you REALLY have problem, then you are the only one. Like everybody said : mxplayer or the player you mention (except daroon because it doesn't use third party codecs I think) should just do fine for divx. Sure the transformer have flaws but playing divx is not one of them.
Like you said you should RMA it if you're not satisfied. I don't know why you bought a transformer if the only thing you want is a media player, you should have kept the archos. But of course you won't have the nice screen of the asus.
@Ellingsoc : do you have a sample ? I'll try it.
Sorry for my bad english.

They must not have google up there in the land of pancakes and hockey because I googled "video codecs for android" and it answered your question. It's even in french.
Please... Just box it up and return it, take the blue pill, and get an ipad before you hurt yourself.
