pros and cons for ext4 on stock eb13? - Epic 4G General

I am stock cept for genocide kernel

On the Epic it is like going from fat32 to NTFS in Windows. I finally made the jump this weekend to EXT4 and am never going back to rfs. Just faster and more responsive.

Is the bluetooth still broken? The how to article on android central says the conversion breaks bluetooth, is that true?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

I used it while I was on dk28. I noticed a huge jump in data processing. At least 300% uncrease. But what made me jump back to rfs was the random boot ups along with failing processes. But I'm back on it with eb13. Does anyone know if the random boots are gone? I'm on my 3rd day on ext and game not gotten any random boots.

Been rock solid for me.

Bluethooth works fine for me. I never had issues even with dk28

The conversion broke bluetooth for me. Had to clear data to fix it. Never had issues on CWM 3.0.0.5, but when I converted using CWM 3.0.0.6, Bluetooth FC .

more efficient means battery savings?

can i convert and restore with CWM?

The conversion will automatically backup your system and data before it converts to ext4, and restore it afterward. As long as you are using a ext4 compatible kernel, you should be good to go.

nice!!! while the rom itself is basically stock the kernel is genocide .3
good to go?
will i see battery savings?

Never had a problem with ext4 and eb13. I am using both with genocide kernal and data from dk28 nandroid of bonsai.

Don't think anyone knows for 100%. The theory is that Ext4 with journaling turned off (like CWM 3 will do) does less writes. Less writes means less power consumption so you should see better battery life. Don't think anyone has done any actual analysis of what the savings is though.

Would the conversion save everything cuz my rom is odexed ima use a deodexed eb13 Odin rom with ext 4

[DISCUSSION] Anyone try z4mod on their Fascinate?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797672
Tried to test this out on my fascinate but didn't get far. Only kernel i tried to patch was the stock ... keeping it simple ya'know. I would get all the way to where you run the zips in clockwork. Problem was is that it would complete in a second or two. Way too fast if its converting the data partition.
Someone in IRC was curious about trying it and IIRC was told by the dev that it wasn't currently working with the fascinate.
I tried it on the fascinate with no success. The only thing it did was remove root from my phone. However, I believe some devs are working on porting it.

I'm going to have to try this again. Did y'all use the Ext2, Ext3, or Ext4 version?
Worked on mine. At first it didn't but then I read that there shouldn't be apps running in the background, so I rebooted and tried it again and it worked like a charm.

you could re-flash the rom, I've never tried the camera hack so I'm not sure exactly what it entails or how to reverse it besides just starting over.

Yes it would unless you back them up somehow.
Are you running a custom rom right now?
No stock rooted why?

I found this:
"Be careful in Service Mode that you know what it is your changing. If you hork up your phone you can reset it by doing a Factory data reset in Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset."
from here
but be careful, you'll need to reinstall your apps if you do that, but if you flashed the rom again you'd have to do that anyways.
Thanks ill probably try a new rom any recommendations preferably one with good battery

I've had great battery with Macnut R13.
I've actualy never had below 24 hours unplugged.
but fair warning: some people say the opposite so I may have just got lucky.
It seems to be about 50/50 have good battery life or dont lol
Also I hear great things about Team Whiskeys roms.
as well as Auxura (Although the guy developing the rom recently stopped development on it)
if you want to stay with 2.1 you might try team whiskey
or if you like 2.2 then any of the above would be great roms
everyone has their own opinion though so you might try a few before you find one you like alot.
Okay one more question... let's say I flash a rom right now... then flash another tomorrow... will the one I did the day before be completely erased when I flash a new one I've heard of people experiencing bugs and this happened ..

Generaly yes you should not have a problem.
but if you do run into trouble you can use odin to start clean, in fact alot of people prefer to use odin to get back to stock before flashing any rom.
but its up to you, I generaly only use odin if things start acting weird (which is next to never)
Wait... isn't Odin how you flash new roms?
Also can u link me to a good tutorial on flashing roms I'm trying to search it from my phone using xda app but its taking forever

So how did you get the stock camera back? Mine keeps restarting my phone I want to restore it but there is no restore.txt
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Go to your files app.. then sgstools folder there should be a app called camera.apk
Get root explorer go to system > apps and delete camera.apk and the one under it is like camera.odex delete that too.
Now use root explorer to go to sgstools and move camera.API to system apps then go clear all data foe camera app reboot. Done.

Installed 2.3.3 but...

Hi all, encouraged by all the positive comments about JPK I decided to go on and install it.
All went well, rooted without trouble then went back to the stock kernel. I restored all the apps and system data with Titanium Backup and suddenly the process com.android.systemui (the top taskbar) crashed. I rebooted the phone but the error stayed.
I tried reflashing but this time I installed the apps from scratch and used Titanium to restore the apps data, after that the system responded very stable until an hour ago when the com.android.systemui error and crash appeared again.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any fixes?
I was on JPY before, I guess I'll try JS8 or go back to JPY
Thanks

never restore system data unless whatever ur running is the same thing you were running when you did the backup.

I've had the same issues with TB, i used it in the beginning. But now i just keep a list of have-to-have apps and i sync my calendar & contacts with google.
I'm also running on 2.3.3, it runs much faster and smoother than 2.2, some lags but a lot less then stock 2.2.

As far as i know, but i could be wrong, you can only sync calendar & contacts via Google. So settings of your phone won't be backed up.

Sadly my car home app from samsung for the vibrant car dock doesn't work anymore. It does trigger car mode but it won't play the music through the dock's line out nor keep the screen on. Anyone else experienced this?
Maybe wait for a Gingerbread supported version of the app?

SMS/MMS being weird

My wife has my old Epic 4G.
I put ACS ICS ROM on it, back when I had it, and she's been using it for a month or so.
Yesterday her phone stopped sending and receiving texts. I pulled the battery, waited a few minutes, then rebooted. it sent 2 text messages, then stopped again. It doesnt work today either.
I don't think ACS ICS ROM is even being worked on any more.
What should I do?
Flash back to stock then flash cm7.
Odin in EC05 tar, root then flash a GB ROM and then flash the EC05toEI22 modem delta.
Firmware version: 2.3.5
Baseband:S7000.5S.EI22
Kernel:2.6.35.7.nubernel_v0.0.2
Build number: ACS ICS
Hardware: D700.0.5
Also, I tried clearing data and dalvik. Didn't expect that to do anything. It didn't.
Should I downgrade EI22 to EC05 then back to EI22?
