I updated my software that Sprint pushed roughly 2 wks ago. Using the new Telanav with 2.3, I realize it's more buggy. It takes long to load, often drops gps signal, and restarts whenever I get an incoming call. Anybody having these issues?

Clear the data and cache for that app, then "uninstall the update" and then reopen it and reinstall when prompted...or freeze the app after you root and use Google Nav instead!

I've heard about the GPS Fix, but I can't find it. Any ideas where it is? The search didn't help me, I guess I haven't gotten the hang of the weird XDA search.

Thanks!

I used Root exp. Try rebooting your phone and see if that works. What way did you try installing the first time before root exp?
Thanks for your help but I can't seem to get it to work. I usually install directly from the download file in astro. I then tried using root explorer.

The new NBA Jam is just about as good i got it on the PS3
So I decided to root and install Bionix on my phone after the Kies 2.2 update pretty much destroyed my phone.
I've searched on the forum so far to no avail.... My GPS is far worse running the Bionix-V 1.2.1 rom... The rom is absolutely wonderful, but the GPS takes minutes to catch on, then when it finally does get signal, it either has me going in the wrong direction, or a street over or something... which doesn't help any.... but then after about a half hour it will finally work normally...
Does anyone have a fix for this as I sold my cars dashboard stupid garmin GPS cuz I had my awesome Google Nav... in which the GPS doesn't work... Yippeee... What a dumb mistake.
GPS really slow to fix on a signal on mine too. Sorry, I can't provide many details cuz i'm a noob.
try out,a,different modem. Personally I have, good results (gps) with jl5 and kb1 modems. Scrizz has a list of,them in,his, sig. Or check his, thread in,the development thread. On,a side note, I hate how the comma is placed next to the space bar in swype!

I recommend downloading SGS Tools from the Market and using that to get into LBSTestMode and deleting your GPS Data. If that doesn't work, flash a different modem.
I had the same problem you're describing. Deleting GPS Data cleared it up immediately.

My bad, come to think of it, it might have been pulled from the market. You can find the latest version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775154&page=37
I remember coming across an interesting thread about a month ago which provided instructions on how to physically modify the gps contacts on the circuit board so that it made a better contact with the gps antenna, thus improving the gps once and for all regardless which ROM you use. As one can expect, this is not for the faint of heart. Since I don't use my phone for its gps, I didn't have any reason to try the solution out. The only reason I remember it was because it was the first time I've read of a non-software solution for the gps issues that plague these phones.
If you were inclined to try it, I would imagine that you can locate the article easily by googleing it. If not, pm me and I'll see if I can find the article in my browsers history.

It's the link in my signature. Although if his GPS was working before flashing the new ROM it's most likely fixable without having to crack open his phone. You're right, it's not for the feint of heart, and sadly it appears to be a necessary thing for most SGS owners to undertake.
Oh my bad, didn't realize you already provided the link.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Well, I guess I technically did but I didn't mention it....plus it is kinda small in my signature. No worries
I have sgs tools installed already. I have the latest version. I hit gps fix but same results.
The gps on this phone has never worked correctly since i bought the phone in august.
What do you mean flash a new modem. Could u provide a newb guide.
Thank you guys, or if someone has another suggestion please list it.
Thanks!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Don't hit GPS Fix. Do this:
Secret Codes > GPS-Test and settings (LBSTestMode) > Delete GPS Data
You can flash a new modem the same way you flashed the ROM through ClockWork, but try deleting GPS data first. Personally, I prefer the KA7 or KB1 modem for GPS, but every device is different.

TW put KA5 in the ROM because it's the best balance of battery life and reception. For GPS, yeah, it definitely sucks. In my experience, on my phone, JL5, KA7 and KB1 provide the best GPS Reception

Give it some time (a day or so). Don't be afraid to try out different modems. I keep pretty much every modem and ever kernel in folders on internal SD just to play with.
Hi all, encouraged by all the positive comments about JPK I decided to go on and install it.
All went well, rooted without trouble then went back to the stock kernel. I restored all the apps and system data with Titanium Backup and suddenly the process com.android.systemui (the top taskbar) crashed. I rebooted the phone but the error stayed.
I tried reflashing but this time I installed the apps from scratch and used Titanium to restore the apps data, after that the system responded very stable until an hour ago when the com.android.systemui error and crash appeared again.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any fixes?
I was on JPY before, I guess I'll try JS8 or go back to JPY
Thanks

I've had the same issues with TB, i used it in the beginning. But now i just keep a list of have-to-have apps and i sync my calendar & contacts with google.
I'm also running on 2.3.3, it runs much faster and smoother than 2.2, some lags but a lot less then stock 2.2.

As far as i know, but i could be wrong, you can only sync calendar & contacts via Google. So settings of your phone won't be backed up.
Success!! Thank you all for your suggestions. Gingerbread works smoothly now. Working through the first battery depleting cycles now, time will tell.
Sadly my car home app from samsung for the vibrant car dock doesn't work anymore. It does trigger car mode but it won't play the music through the dock's line out nor keep the screen on. Anyone else experienced this?
Maybe wait for a Gingerbread supported version of the app?

look thru the forums for the 'lagfix', its the adb command yamahasensorcalibutil or something like that.. its just calibrating your sensors... works great on a good install of most eb13 or ec05 install...
Use terminal emulator, if you don't have it yet get it from the market. Open it and type /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha place the phone on a flat surface, and hit Enter. Reboot the phone and sensors will function at normal speed.
You ca use adb also. Good luck

You can either root it and fix it, or take it to Sprint, have them ODIN it which won't fix it and have them order a replacement which takes 3 days.

Try using faster fix to set your region, then use gps aids, clear agps in settings, go outside, request update agps, then go to main gps aids screen and wait for a good fix (can take a couple of minutes first time) then subsequently you should get a good fix pretty fast.....mine takes 15 seconds
