[Q] A little bricked - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi, well it looks like I may have messed up my phone real good this time.
I've had it rooted and oc’ed sense November with no problems. About a week ago I tried to undo it all to send it in for warranty replacement (bad speaker) and semi-bricked it.
Been trying too fix it myself for the last 8 days looks like I'm may need a hand.
S-OFF
HBOOT-0.82.0000
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.02.01.15_M2
I was running
Stock ROM
Kernel was the one in vision-baconbits-0.3
And my recovery was the CW one in ROM manger back in Nov
I used this method to un-root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971
When applying the PC10IMG.zip file, I got this error in step 4 system “fail-uz”
“image unzipping fail!”
Now I still have S-off
It will boot to HTC splash screen and hangs there.
I’m not sure what kernel I have now. I think it went back to stock like the recovery (but not sure)
I’m back on stock recovery and when it boots it displays “E:Can’t open /cache/command”
When trying an update.zip I when get to the “verifying current system…” step and it displays “assert faild: apply-path_check(“/system/app/AccountAndSyncSettings.odex” fallowd by three long strings of numbers and letters. And then “E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip”
Adb with phone in recovery tells me it’s “offline”
C:\Documents and Settings\Me And You\Desktop\root g2\adb tools>adb devices
List of devices attached
HT09MR213455 offline
Adb does even less with phone booted to splash screen.
I do have fastboot access
When I tried pushing a new CW recovery it fails with (remote: not allowed).
Same thing if I try flashing a system.img or boot.img
C:\Documents and Settings\Me And You\Desktop\root g2\adb tools>fastboot flash re

sending 'recovery' (4170 KB)... OKAY [ 0.811s]
writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.811s
I have re-downloaded both the update.zip and PC10IMG.zip files from the link above, And tried two different sd cards. Thank’s for taking the time to read all this and for any help you provide. Believe it or not, I’m having fun. lol
Here a few screen shots

Did you root using the rage/gfree method?

Yes

There is a method in the CWMod thread in Development that has a PC10IMG.zip file just for the sole purpose of installing CWMod. By any chance did you try flashing CWMod that way?

you are getting (remote: not allowed) error because you don't have ENGINEERING HBOOT installed .i looked at the screen shots too and just before s-off it said SHIP rather than ENG so as a result of that unfortunately you cant use fastboot commands to flash anything from there.

I will try the cw img when I get home tonight thanks.

Please, flame me not for I have read and read until I can read no more.
I am just confused and what to make sure I am following the right thread.
My Wife used Visionary r14 for some reason to permaroot her phone and it rebooted and is now stuck on the HTC Boot screen.
I go into Hboot and it shows S-on.
I do a factory reset to no avail.
From my understanding, there is still hope. Please what do I need to do to get her phone back working.
And attempting to flash back says that Main is older.
She is still stock with STOCK RECOVERY, everything.

Thanks EdKeys.
I tried that but unfortunately it just scans the file and then goes back, no option to flash or anything.
I have been told that I would need a ROM that has a version higher than my current Post OTA version.
How do I proceed? Do you know any modified Shipped ROM that could accomplish this?
Thanks

Thanks again

Regarding the leaked Gingerbread update and semi-bricks

Well for people who had a brick caused by VISIONary that was fixed by flashing the leaked Gingerbread update, I think I have an idea that might work on rooting it.
Why not replace the stock bootloader and recoveries that come in the PC10IMG.zip file with Clockworkmod recovery and the Engineering SPL. That way you can have S-OFF, which allows you to use to use Gingerbreak to root and CWM recovery which allows you to flash a different ROM on the G2.
Does this make sense, or did someone already try this and failed? I got the idea from the method I used to root my G1.

Best bet to find out if this would work or not is to ask the guys over at #G2ROOT irc.
And this doesn't really belong in the dev section, should be in Q&A
CRAP!!! I hit the wrong link! Sorry, moving my post.
And where's the link to the #G2ROOT IRC channel?
If I'm not mistaken, there's no way to get thoes items on the phone as the package won't pass signatue validation.
If we had thoes items, then we wouldn't need to root the leak rom, we could simply bypass it by flashing a new pre-rooted rom..
Perhaps you misunderstood how the process works?

perhaps i have, but what exactly is hindering the problem? did htc patch the hole in the firmware that allowed scotty2 to powercycle the eMMC chip?
Do u know what an md5 sum is? If anything is modified, even ONE BYTE, the sum changes. That is how u know if a file is corrupted/tampered. Signature verification is the same thing different name. The fact that you can't change the recovery because its not rooted means that you cannot bypass the sig verification. End of story. This idea will never work.

Signature verification is not the "same thing different name" -- look up public key cryptography for more information.

Pretty much yes. I don't remember the exact details....but it was the hole that allowed temp root, which than allowed us to modify the hboot. Giving us s-off, in turn allowing us full access...I think you get the picture.
Or someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Its been a long time since thoes days

MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP ANY USEFUL INFORMATION OR APPS FROM YOUR PHONE, BECAUSE YOUR ROM IS GOING TO BE WIPED.
First download the attachment. Remove the numbers from the name of the file so that it is renamed PC36IMG and place this on the root of your SD card. Power off the phone, then boot into your bootloader by holding the volume down and power buttons at the same time. Accept the update. If everything went OK, that should get rid of that Revolutionary at the top of your bootloader and flash the phone back to S-ON.
Next remove the file from your SD card by either rebooting your phone or going into your RECOVERY. I'm not going to give all the details for this.
Next, download this file.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VSFLE9CD
Rename it PC36IMG, place it on your SD card and follow the same steps as you did with the first PC36IMG file.
Let me know if that worked, because how to unroot the phone has seemed to be forgotten around here. Everyone is just happy to root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
That took me 5 seconds to find with a quick search.

That doesn't work completely for Gingerbread.
You can downgrade the ROM back to Froyo, but the S-ON tool will not work with the new bootloader, and the bootloader will not downgrade by running any of the PC36IMG Froyo files or RUUs if Revolutionary was used to turn S-OFF.
Assuming that you mean to unroot and regain S-OFF on an Evo 4G that was rooted using Revolutionary...
It seems that this has been worked out.
Check out this post.

Oh by the way, thanks for the S-ON solution Captain. I thought of your idea about a week ago with the bootloader, and have a hex editor, but did not think it all the way through at the time.
this worked great but one prob. now when i try to re root with revolutionary it says im already s off but on bootloader im not. wassup with that?

You need to flash an unrooted stock ROM to roll back your HBOOT to an upgradable version. I assume you used the modded 6.17 HBOOT to S-ON, but didn't flash a stock ROM to restore your HBOOT to stock?
Because the modded HBOOT is a higher version number than Revolutionary, most likely it believes you're already rooted.
I used RUU to update my phone to latest stock Rom and flashed the attachment on this thread

You essentially have two options:
- Run the RUU (ROM Update Utility) for the latest stock ROM on your PC
- Flash the latest stock ROM, in PC36IMG.zip format through FastBoot
Files for either/both of those can be found in my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17206283&postcount=5

First make sure it is indeed stock. Then call T-Mobile. Ask them to push the latest OTA.
you can also easily root it , and flash a custom sense rom or just flash the gingerbread update , which is lying around in the android development thread somewhere

and there is no way to get my s-off ?
No, because you're unlocked through HTCDev tool.
You need to relock and downgrade to have S-OFF.
And your problem is - since you're unlocked by HTCDev, you need to flash kernels manually, using fastboot. Google it.
And your other problem is posting questions in General section instead of Q&A, and giving your thread a crappy title to add to it.
You said unlocked bootloader? Is that via HTC?

And your other problem is posting questions in General section instead of Q&A, and giving your thread a crappy title to add to it.

OK thanks for the help, thought this is were you post for help .....sorry about that
and as far as my title well that's what i need so that's what i asked for sorry if it was to crappy
so if a Moderator could please move this to the Q&A section that would be great and sorry about the post in wrong place like i said im still new to this .
and i did downgrade to 2.2.1 from 2.3.4 unless i did something wrong there ?
Maybe go back to stock and re-root? Lots of info here
Yes, you did wrong. If you have HBOOT 0.89.0007 - means you have the most updated HBOOT, and if you'd downgrade properly - you'd have HBOOT 0.86.0000.
You can still attempt to run gfree, but I doubt it'll do you any good.
You have 2 choices:
1) Stick with current setup and flash kernels from fastboot each time, like I said.
2) Modify misc_version again, relock bootloader, run "dowgrade" again, temp-root with Visionary and perm-root with gfree, following one of the many guides.
Your ROM won't flash, because it assumes something being written in the special file that describes the device as Glacier, but this assumption fails (most likely because the build you flashed previously messes something up in this file).
The other ROMs don't work, because you're not flashing the kernel.
Do some reading, please.
I can tell you this from experience, but I don't suggest you do anything until you calm down, gather your thoughts, and read some posts on this until it makes sense to you.
I had unlocked my bootloader via HTC. Then I realized it wasn't the best way, so I started doing this & that and having all sorts of issues. Only when you are ready, you need to relock your bootloader and then follow the very detailed guides on here to root and install the engineering hboot. I couldn't get s-off or downgrade to 2.2.1 until I relocked my bootloader. I don't know if that is the case for everyone, I only know I failed at every attempt to downgrade, until I relocked it. But please, be patient and try to read and understand a little before you attempt anything further.

Touchscreen not working after aospx update!!!

Hey guys,
I updated my Desire HD to aospx BR7 but upon rebooting the touchscreen is not responding at all. I have tried rebooting the phone multiple times and have taken the battery out but its not working I have a nandroid backup for the BR6 but I have touch recovery so I cannot access that either. Is there a way to access that nandroid backup or flash a different rom without the recovery? I would really appreciate any help
Cheers
EDIT: I was able to use fastboot to flash the CWM recovery but upon restoring my aospx BR6 nandroid backup, the touchscreen is still not responsive. I tried a fresh install as well but its still not working. Any ideas?? Cheers
1:Reboot into bootloader
2:Connect your phone to your pc
3:select fastboot
4:run a RUU for your phone
See if this helps.

Thanks for the reply mate. I found this RUU ROM from the Desire hd development list....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
Is that ok to flash? Also the poster is giving instructions on flashing it through the recovery but how would I go about flashing it through fastboot? Like I know when flashing radio you just write fastboot flash radio radio.img. Are there multiple disc images that I have to flash?
Cheers
Go into fastboot and run this RUU from your computer:

Thanks for the tip Muikuman. I was able to successfully go through the steps but the touchscreen is still not responsive. I have lost the CWM recovery as well which I expected (I can just flash recovery though fastboot again right?) Any other possible solutions?? cheers
Hmm =\ yes you can flash the recovery from fastboot. But this seems to be a hardware issue. It's not responding at all?

yea not responding at all mate. Yea might be hardware issue but the problem came up as soon as the ROM was flashed so I was thinking it might be like a touch driver or something. I tried flashing recovery but I get this
writing 'recovery'....FAILED <remote:not allowed>
If i cant sort this out in the next week....I might as well send it for repair and hope that the service guys dont discover that the phone is rooted and I have voided the warranty. Appreciate your help Muikkuman :good:
Hehe no problem my friend. You are unrooted after the RUU only S-OFF so I don't think they notice. And you should got the right drivers with the ruu so...

Guess what....I tried a vodafone uk RUU...thinking that it might have the vodafone splashscreen at boot up so repair guys dont suspect anything weird. When i flashed it the touchscreen magically started working  Now in order to root, recovery and ENG S-off.....I know there is like the ace hack kit. While reading the instructions, it said that I shouldnt use the tool if I have S-off and i do. Should i bite the bullet and give it a shot?
Here is the info for the phone
Android version: 2.2
Software number: 1.32.405.3
baseband version: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.15_M3
In the bootloader it says: Ace pvt ship S-off
hboot- 0.85.007
Nope.
Check if you have a recovery. If not just flash one. I believe, not sure, that the hack kit will give you those options in the event you don't have a recocery.

Flash 4EXT recovery and root the device.

Nah I dont have one. when i try to flash recovery i get this.....
writing 'recovery'....FAILED <remote:not allowed>
Check to see what are the other options for the hack kit. I can't remember if it has one if you are already s-off. But do not run it again since you are already rooted, if you do it will mess things up.
I'll try to do a search in a few hours on how to fix your issue, if I don't fall asleep first. I can't remember the solution off the top of my head.
