This comment on twitter should be all you need to know to avoid buying the premium version of Rom Manager if you own a Samsung Fascinate
http://twitter.com/#!/clockworkmod/status/41727966463393792
Just posting a warning, if you are going to choose to support a Dev with an app purchase, there are other options.
I thought some devs here dont even care about rm due to the guy whos in charge never getting back to them. (hence the reason why i wont buy the premium)
The devs don't care. And the devs have fixed the recovery (multiple times).

"the guy in charge" is the guy that made the tweet. Our devs are right. Avoid RM.
Too bad i paid for this when i had my D1.

I hope someone develops a competing application to knock him out of the market. It shouldnt be too hard considering the terrible attitude that guy has towards support.
for all your fascinate flashing needs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
What a jackass. Snotty "I got my money" attitude combined with a totally ignorant attack on the guys who fixed his screwups months ago.
With the new CWM Red, you really don't need to use ROM Manager. It's just a pretty little interface. Everything you need can be DLed and Installed through CWM
Since, Someone has already started this on XDA. I guess i will just have to add to it so I don't make another thread that will be considered pointless and will go unread. This isn't intended to be trolling or anything, since I am giving positive reviews also. Also, if you have anything to say about it, you can either pm here or you can get on IRC and say something there, I am on there as "error"
This is in response to everyone over the whole Koush/Rom Manager issue going on right now. I am going to list some pros/cons of this whole thing going on.
Pros:
This App was easy to use and even noobs could figure it out, which was a great thing because you are new to a phone and you don't know where to go to get support over your phone(XDA, IRC, etc) then you are left there wondering what you can/can't do.
Different features that give you pretty much a full customization. You could go through everything and flash whatever you wanted, it was right there for you.
Users loved Rom Manager, they absolutely loved being able to do the things they could through it.
Starting out, there was a good amount of support behind the App. Which support will get you far with anyone, because you take the time out to help people.
Cons:
Lack of Support.
Lack of Updates.
Lack of Communication.
Lack of a Good Attitude towards those that have already paid out money to support the creator.
I gave 4 pros/cons...I am sure there are way more for each side of this, as I am sure there is also words that would need to be said, but could also probably get me in some trouble. But, everyone seems to be getting really frustrated at the lack of support now, maybe its just the Fascinate side of things. But, the way it is looking, he doesn't like some of the devs, so he could careless what is said/done with RM for our phone. Maybe I am not making a lick of sense at all and people are scratching their head and wondering why I am even putting this. But, I know some people will agree with some if not most of my points I have made.
Rom Manager is lacking a lot right now and when some of us do try to get support for the phone, we get the cold shoulder from the creator of the app. So either, stop supporting us period...or someone can make a new Manager for us and support us better. We have given our money and paid our dues, we just want our support is all.
i think folks should leave nasty grams on the market. hit that jackass where it hurts.

Well, I hate to say this but I have given up waiting for root as an early leak user. I feel I have the right to post this due to 1, helping wherever I could, 2, contacting paul to even get the ball rolling after jcase mentioned him 3, offered donation for a solution etc...
I love my eris but see all the neat things I am missing out on. When the evo comes out, I will be jumping from pageplus to sprint... i am sure that will be rooted and if not... im still better off.
Thank you to all who have tried their best.. I think this is one instance where the phone beat us. I am annoyed that we do not have root as it allows us to better use our own phone.
anyway, best of luck to all...

I dont blame you homie.. If I had not managed to get a second eris after I jumped on the leakv1, I would have gone nuts watching all the badass ROMS and hacks get released and have no way to use them.
Ok everyone can quit complaining about the 2.1 update! I just checked Verizon ERis Software Upgrade page and its announced that there is an update coming soon! I know theres no date but at least it is now finally up on their site. If you dont belive me check it out your self & for those who doubted it would ever come this just shows that paicence is a virtue.

Check out both pdf files. The Benifits of Software link states all the updates for 2.1. Enough said?
Good riddance.

Just short out the battery connection on the back of the phone with a small piece of aluminum foil, take it in to Verizon, explain how your phone just turned off and won't turn on and voila! You get a new phone the next day running stock 1.5, ready to be ROOTED!
That's what I did after installing the 2.1 leak and realized I couldn't get root. Let me tell you, my rooted Eris running Evil Eris v2.0 with the overclocked processor is far greater than my friends Moto Droid. I hope you make the right decision.
P.S. Don't be a bully.
There are always risks involved when upgrading a device, I learned that with the PSP and now other people are learning it with their Eris. Crying about it (in the wrong forum no less) is doing nothing to help.
A root will likely eventually be found, patience is the key. As soon as you just can't stand it anymore and upgrade/change device/etc you've potentially lost something forever.
One thing is for sure; I find it insulting that people feel they have a right to complain about being on leak, nobody held you down and forced you to flash anything.

It's not overclocked yet, it definitely doesnt do anything at the moment. And as far as shorting it out, I took mine into verizon complaining about the speakers all cutting out glitch and they didnt even look at the phone and swapped me out a new one in 10 minutes. It's not that hard really, just find someone in the store who looks like an idiot. All the smart people are in the back anyway.
Or You can not be a cheapskate and just Buy a new one..

Not everyone has lots of money and buying a new eris outright is about 500 or so, used on ebay they go for over 300. speaking for myself I know I'd rather have the 3-500 to spend on bills and things then buying a new phone.
Even though I am kicking myself for not waiting a bit longer, I don't regret upgrading to any of the leaks. It gave me 2.1 months before everyone else. A little more patience never hurt anyone.

Seconded. But this thread is useless. If you're tired of waiting on 2.1 leak root then get a new phone, try and get a replacement or just sit there and use the phone like it was meant to be. There's nothing wrong with 2.1 v3 in my opinion. Telling everyone you're leaving because of it is just asking to be trolled/flamed. I suggest a mod closes this thread or something.

Agree, 2.1 is so much better than 1.5. Plus, if you want to play with your phone and "customize it" a little there are home replacements in the market you can try. Helixlauncher is really good, and I just found one yesterday on android forums, real nice. It's called Zeam, http://www.mediafire.com/?jtzjyoklenk
Little to no lag and dialer is lightning fast.
So while you might not be rooted, it's nobody's fault that root hasn't been found yet or that you (op) flashed the leak. I want root too, but have the patience to wait for it to be found. There are some of the best devs on here working on it, only a matter of time.
~ happy 2.1 v3 leak user
my point wasnt i was unhappy with anyone here. I love 2.1v3 and yes, its leaps above 1.5
Just annoyed at what I am missing. I do not want this topic to be considered trollish..
Ok so I just got this phone (coming from a DInc), just wondering what ROM is the best one out there. I am already rooted and have clockwork installed, now itching to put a ROM on and get rid of Bing lol.
Did you flash Clockwork in Odin? You can't do it from ROM Manager on this phone.
JT's super clean is a safe bet. Blackhole is another popular one.
Correct you need to flash it through odin ie clockwork. I have used alot of roms so far but I like the black hole build you're own. Many options and the recent v1.4.1 is really nice. Sonsofskywalker is a great dev and keeps up on his stuff.

Honestly Ive seen absolutely no improvement in using a custom rom vs launcherpro over stock. Your better off keeping it stock for now untill 2.2 comes out.
But if your even smarter you return the phone. Dont throw away the box, you like me might not be happy with it and get stuck with it. I dont think its actually the phone im unhappy with....but more android. Android has become a disapointment to me. An OS is only as good as the applications it has.
I was a 3 time Iphone user....then switch from att to verizon in Nov 2009 and have gone through a bunch of droid phones. On Verizon its the best choice. But when Windows phone 7 or Iphone hits next year many will be gone.
I know many of you guys will chew me up over this. But I gotta speak the truth,

Also, is there anyway to get Bing completely off the phone? And what about when I hit the search button to be able to get directions like I could on my DInc.

Yes, there is a way to get Bing completely off. I will tell you if you just read the stickies at the top, you probably didn't need to post this.
If you have root access, which is easily done, you can then use install CWM. Once you do that, you can install jt's super clean rom. That'll take care of your issues.
If you don't like the way the current launcher you are using, install ADW or LauncherPro. I personally recommend ADW as it is open source and well developed.
But again, you should have posted this in the General forum. And you should have read the stickies before posting.
Can you imagine what this forum would be like if everyone who purchased a Fascinate posted saying exactly what you are saying???

My bad. I do have reading comprehension issues...
Anyways, depends on what you want, the good ones are already in ROM Manager to download when you feel like.
Sonofskywalker's ROM is neat in that it erases everything stock and leaves only what you want to leave in there.
JT's is simple and clean.
Deoxdexed is not bad, but it does come with a theme if you're into that.
I used "Super Dark" I really like the layout, but now all my haptic feeling in the phone is gone
Ok I got it working, I flashed the stock kernel to the phone... seems to be working properly right now

I have had the vibrant for a couple of months now, and I must say I am very dissapointed.
I had the chance to try my friends' evo and another friends mytouch 4g and I must say these phones are about 10 times better rhan the vibrant...
No lag, gps works amazingly fast and accurate 9.8 ft accurancy indoors on the evo with 8 sats locked. These phones just work right out of the box. The vibrant is a hyped up phone with very little usability because most times I need something really quick the phone decides to crawl and doesn't respond. Build quality is also better on the mentioned phones. Even my other friends htc aria performs faster and better in every aspect and that on 2.1...
Hopefully someone will solve these issues at some point cause it seems to me it is all software related cause on the spec sheet the vibrant looks to be a great device but in real life it is just a lot of frustration...
This is definitely my last Samsung phone and as soon as I get my hands on a used mytouch 4g I will gladly get rid of the vibrant.

Now lets be nice. We havent a reason to be rude. He is unhappy and has a right to be. We dont have to respond to the thread.
I am for one happy with my phone. Gps works! awesome software by teamwhiskey!
Great glasstopia them by mwbehr. Fantastic kernel by the man himself eugene373.
I already learned I dont need samsungs support. Maybe we can help him learn that also.
Well what a friendly community this is...
I felt like venting because using this phone is frustrating. I posted in the general section so if that was wrong let the mods take care of it but don't act like an idiot.
My vibrant is rooted and on official ka6. Rooting has nothing to do with the performance of the device.
Besides a phone should work the right way out of the box without any modification. If you say you are happy then good for you, but you might want to try using other phones and you will clearly see the difference...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I didnt mean to come off rude, I was giving you the solution man.
I have MANY phones. Rooting doesnt help the performance... but apps that need root access do. And yes, voodoo (converting the file system to EXT 4) WILL fix your complaint.
Hazzard99 thank you for the reply. You are absolutely right and that is why I said it must all be software related since the hardware seems like it is supposed to beat pretty much any device out there.
I am fine with rooting and I did it, I just do not feel comfortable to flash any custom firmware yet...
I am more frustrated with samsung than anything else. I think android is the future definitely and it is growing daily... but Samsung lost me as a customer, that is for sure.

I'm sorry, aren't a ton of the threads in this forum dedicated to people's complaints with sammy/tmo/vibrant? Not a whole lot of us are satisfied with the Vibrant stock. Maybe we can educate him just how simple it is to root this device and put it's fantastic hardware to use.

I understand that the stock version of the phone is truly laggy, and the gps is not that great. But they are many roms or "custom firmwares" that u can flash. They will make ur phone nearly 100x better. Flashing is defnitely worth it. If ur brave enough, you can even add on the ffc.
Dont be scared you dont have to do much but flash the rom of your choice and read up on it a bit.
One of the little pleasures of life Is taking pride in the things that we do for ourselves. I am very grateful for the community everytime I meet someone who has a certain phone and hates it. I let them know that the phone isnt that bad.
Oh and btw I run bionix v and I can underclock to 800mhz and be happy as a pig in poop.

I've seen your posts outlining what you think are bugs in the various SC versions. And I have never encountered any of the "bugs and issues" ever since I started using any of the versions of supah clean. Since you have issues others don't you should place blame on what you do after the rom flash.

Ever since installing v2.92 of super clean, I have had zero issues. The sleep of death also seems to be gone.
Instead of making general accusations, why not be part of the solution and list each issue you have so others can either validate or disprove your claims. Only then will your "tons of bugs" get any attention.
Are you really thinking *****ing about nonspecific bugs will make your device run better?
Also, get spellcheck or use an app like ShapeWriter which spells the words for you. It's just sad.

Are you serious? I have run nothing BUT Adrynalyne's ROM's since I even started with this stuff, and have NEVER had a problem directly related to/caused by his code. This dude puts in WORK, for FREE mind you, and does an AWESOME job at it to boot. Any bugs you have is honestly of your own doing, do some reading and search for solutions, not just bash Adrynalyne for stuff that isn't his fault.
Don't take it personal, but I'm glad the mods keep the threads on topic, or this place would end up like androidcentral. You can't find sh*t over there.

WOW can the dev's add minutes to your account?
**** I missed that update
Zero problems with superclean, especially since 2.9. I've been hammering the hell out of it trying to figure out why it seems we can't restore a themed nandroid backup without getting caught in a FCLOH at boot animation. I've been flashing all kinds of different themes, patches, and mods in different combinations without one single force close, glitch, bug, or issue until trying to restore a nandroid. But I think that has to do with cwm and not being able to fix permissions in cwm, not with superclean.
And to quote Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction - "English Mother Trucker, do you speak it?"

I know exactly what your talking about. Restore = Bootloop. Restore + Flashing the contents of system/framework from my own theme before boot = Happy restore. There is something about these new frameworks, they just don't like being backed up.

I am very thankful for the devs time and devotion they put into their roms. I am glad the source is out there, but am even more glad that we have great devs that can take advantage of this code.
Thanks

I know exactly what your talking about. Restore = Bootloop. Restore + Flashing the contents of system/framework from my own theme before boot = Happy restore. There is something about these new frameworks, they just don't like being backed up.
good day.

Been working on it for a while and only been able to consistently restore a nandroid of just the base ROM. Which is asinine because I can just flash the base ROM, reboot, boot back to cwm, flash theme, reboot, boot to cwm, flash patches and mods, and reboot in the same amount of time it takes to restore nandroid of just the base ROM. High poster over at Android Central Fascinate forum, just starting to post more here.
Have a good day yourself.
Why is it everyone thinks I'm *****ing or placing blame on adrenaline for the sc roms? The developers do great stuff. and the issues with the rom are well known and have filled the forum for months.. I have always put the blame on faulty or incomplete code from sammy. And those issues were probably the reason it took so long for release. So simply inquiring or prodding for an answer to the question "will source lead to a new sc rom is perfectly valid. I'm still not seeing why such a post is off topic, unless someone is not making the connection between the op and source. And being that the source is sammys official build. But if it will make the forum neater, when a question comes to mind when reading a thread I will make a new post instead of replying.

You didnt even state it is samsungs fault or anything in your first post. By only saying the ROM is full of bugs, you are essentially saying that it is Adrys fault. (Although the code may be from samsung, it is Adry who creates the rom).
It may be perfectly valid to say that a new source may lead to a better rom in the original thread, but it does not require you to create a brand new thread saying "Why the hell is my post deleted". You can always repost the same thing in the thread again, not create a brand new topic where you seem to be only complaining.

you can put lipstick on a pig, but...
Your work is great. And the question was never pointing at your work. You bring great things to this phone. But as you said yourself. You make changes and they may work great on your phone but then other people have issues, weather its the phone, flash method, or an installed app.. And I'm believe my original question stated " sense people have so many issues". Which Is what i gather from reading the forums. I had sod when I tried it so I reverted. I apologize if the way I worded it caused offense, I meant none.

I don't know if this is proper, so please forgive me if I erred. This sectioned seemed the most appropriate. So I just wanted to say hi.
Hi
I am a new owner of the Samsung Fascinate. 3 days now.
I looked around the different communities and this one seemed like the one with a lot of knowledge. I would like to thanks everyone for all the helpful post I have read lurking about now.
I plan on using custom roms in the future. But I plan on learning as much as I can before I jump into it deep.
I have rooted the phone so far. Now I am trying to learn what the best/most stable mod to install.
There are a lot of great post here and I have learned a lot so far. I do have some experience with rooting/install cyanmod on the old droid. But it was such an old phone by the time I got it, that modding was just a few clicks. There seems to be some meat still on the bone when it comes to modding the Fascinate. I just don't want to kill the phone by doing something ignorant.
Once again thanks for the future help I know I'll be asking. And if you have any tips or advice feel free to offer it.
Hmm there's a quite a bit to know. The next step would be to install clockwork recovery and do a nandroid backup of your current rom so you can flash back if something goes wrong (It is very hard to permanently brick this phone). After you do that then you would be able to flash roms and kernels by simply flashing in clockwork mod. Question, do you plan on using voodoo or nonvoodoo roms/kernels?
Yeah I read that it was hard to brick it.
From what I understand about vodoo is it's a more efficient file system, right? I like the sound of that.
So I would say yes to vodoo.
But I don't want to lose any functionality So I am hoping that is only bleeding edge mods, not stable ones like evil or community. I'm studying more one those 2 since they seem to be the go to ones.
I also wonder does modding open up the Fascinate to multiple corporate emails accounts. As it is now I'm locked to only one, freaking Verizon. I need one more.
The Voodoo lagfix involves speed, sound, and display improvements. It converts the file system to EXT4 from the slower RFS file system that Samsung put on it. The voodoo sound is a driver that uses the Galaxy S audiophile digital to analog converter to output a lot of power to high end headphones without using more power. The voodoo color fix involves getting rid of the bluish tint on most Galaxy S devices and making the colors more true and reducing the sharpness a little bit to be more easy on the eyes. You can read more about it here:
http://project-voodoo.org/
Comm rom and Evil Fascination both support the voodoo kernels. Once you get these roms up and running, you must install "Voodoo Control" from the market and that will allow you to use the audiophile DAC in the Fascinate and will make your music come to life if you have a good pair of high end headphones! Remember, never flash a nonvoodoo kernel over a voodoo kernel because you with get force close hell. Only flash voodoo over voodoo or if you feel the need to flash back to nonvoodoo you must disable the lagfix in clockwork mod recovery. If you need assistance on setting up voodoo, let me know!

Voodoo kernels are basically converting RFS to EXT4 (non native to native Android filesystem), making the phone much smoother. It also allows for special mods unique to the Galaxy S line, such as Voodoo Sound and Voodoo Color. Both are beneficial and have almost no harm in experimenting with. The general consensus about kernels is that it should be a Voodoo one.
EDIT: Oops, a little too late. He's right as well.

Thanks. Ill definately go with vodoo. Seems like a no brainer.
Pathetic, imho, that samsumg/verizon get all the money, yet don't put the effort into getting it right the first time. On the surface seems like laziness. There may be some issues that tie their hands. But it is no excuse. They should be thanking the heavens that the community picks up thier slack

I agree completely. They also use us as testing gerbils, I believe =/. That can be good for the average consumer in the long run though. Supercurio, the creator of project voodoo, I believe has been in talks with Samsung recently for some sort of job offer. I don't know the details.
