This was super handy. Closed current app and you knew it was closed.
I have a hard time navigating the menus just to stop running an app. This solved that problem but I guess Google killed an app that made life easier.
If you have CyanogenMod you can set it under Settings->Applications->Development->Stop on long press. The other way is to use a task manager, in froyo it can't kill every app, but it can free up memory (I use ES Taskmanager and it works well on CM 2.2.1)

is there an app list for the xperia. I have stopped all the apps I dare without knowing what they do.

you can pretty much safely kill all apps that are listed in the app killer, if your disabling startup apps then thats a bit of a different story. My personal advice is to forget app killers all together. They slow down the performance of your android device and android already manages your memory and apps for you. Just let it be.
Anyone els have a ton of apps that keep opening it bogs the phone down or if there is a fix for this or maybe an app to Auto kill all

"Advanced Task Killer" does the job for you! Download in Market, Free App works like a charm. One of the top favored apps!
Ok I been search all night last night but can't fine what I'm looking for. I have t-mobile us. And I have the new version of Android v3.1. I notice that every time I went in app killer I saw a bunch of apps that I didn't even run. I have nothing on my desktop not a widget besides massages and internet icon. Anyone know how to fix that ? Thanks
that's normal... many apps start when android boot up and continue running in the background.
Android 3.1? you must be very special.

thanks for quick answer. Now i can get it off my head.
Sorry I meant to say froyo version 3.1
Don't use app killer. Use autokiller. Much more effective on froyo.

Why task killers for android dont work
Here a good thing to read for all those that are using task killers.http://lifehacker.com/5650894/android-task-killers-explained-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
I used to have advanced app killer and used to manually kill apps like crazy, but then I read that they actually hurt daily battery life. Do you guys still use them? It sucks to manually go into settings to stop apps. Discuss.

They are counterproductive with the new versions of Android.
Use watch dog to monitor for "misbehaving apps"

I have used Watchdog since I got my phone. It has twice alerted me that the browser was using extra cpus. It gives an option to kill the app right there so I did and everything was cool. Nice app.
1+ watchdog task killers were needed back in the day with 2.0 and below but android handles it pretty well nowadays
I only use it after boot up, but after that I only use it if I start getting lag.
Agreed. Avanced task killer and similar apps are rubish now days. Watchdog is Great because it alerts you about apps using top many resources.
New users and sales people tend to assume android uses ram like a computer does; the more free ram the beter. Android keeps certain apps available in ram so that its faster to open it you when needed. If the system requires more ram to function it will remove unused apps from memory.

Thanks for the watchdog recommendation. I checked out the app in the market place and it looks pretty cool. So you guys use no app killers at all?

i've with and without task killer, i always get longer battery life with, and have never had any issue's with using it.
No app killers period for me.
I know this is contrary but there are certain apps I don't want killed ever by Samsung gs4...I have tried developer options to keep 4 processes open but still not what I'm looking for. .. anybody offer suggestions? Example would like to keep running mate apps open while running long periods. ..
