New Archos Brand ($200 10 inch 8 inch $150) - Gen8 General

Archos is launching a couple of new capacitive tablets under the new brand name "Arnova." They're available right now with awful specs but they're relaunching them in April worldwide I assume.
It has a different firmware compared to the Archos Gen 8 products, so it could be a different file system. It also features the ARM Cortex-A8 1Ghz RK2918 processor. HDMI output and USB plugs are there. No Kickstand, sadly.
The guy from Archosfans did a video of it with Eclair; it's a beta product. It's supposedly going to launch with Gingerbread then upgradable to Honeycomb possibly.

i will be receive the Arnova 10 the next week : tuesday

Much like I posted on Youtube (which will probably be deleted):
Cheaper doesn't mean much if it is more or less junk. I would rather pay $95 more to get a capacitive screen, HDMI, USB, and even the little kickstand. Seriously...don't even compare it to the Xoom. LOL

It has the soft keys on the status bar . Now hopefully someone can port it to the 70 and 101's .

would be nice since i want to buy the 8" when/if it gets capacitiv screen in april/may.
thx a lot

Is RK2918 processor a Rockchip CPU? So far their performance was not good enough to make me want a device with one but when it comes in a device that's half price, it makes me wonder...
Let the reviews come

You can do this with button savior and a build.prop tweak, can't you?

That has been done. Root your 70 or 101 using Archangel's root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928767
Follow this thread to create a local.prop that will enable the soft keys on status bar:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940198

yeah , i know it has , but this looks like proper implementation , not button saviour . Not really interested in rooting just to move the soft keys .

I tried the softkeys on the status bar.. very cool until an app hides the status bar and the app uses the back button.. I know you can get the softkeys by pressing the power button, but not convenient.. so moved them back to the side. Hopefully they keep the status bar from hiding with these new tablets or give the option anyway.

I received the Arnova 10 !

Check this video out at Mobile Crunch. I have to say Im not that impressed.

Interface looks pretty great on the video presentation I saw. I'm wondering if the 'stipes' will get a bit stale after a bit of usage? Looks pretty fluid and I'm all about that in my preferred interface. (whichever flavor I'm in to at the moment.) Will be interesting to see what comes out of it for our various devices.
now that i saw the iphone size comparison on msmobiles.com, i beginning to lose interest. this thing is HUGE!

But the Toshiba Stripes menu uses way to small buttons (especially for switching clock, calendar etc.)

I want, hope they release it in the US too. the top could a bit smaller but I still want one.
it's not a windows interface, it's just like TF2D and TF3D it's over the windows OS.

With that 1gb processor ps2 games should be doable as long as it has proper video and 3d drivers this time around.
what's the word on availability date?

it would be a really nice upgrade to my athena.

well if it is sold separate, i hope is isn't too much if i'm dropping alot on the phone. does anyone know anything about the gps mount for the phone? i'm guessing that's separate too. i really can't wait for this thing to come out. i hope t-mo news is right, july 21st can't come soon enough.
Love the idea of the cradle, turning the phone into a clock.
I already use my Samsung i900 as my alarm clock, this wil only make it even better

Singtel Singapore is giving this free in last PC fair in Suntec.
I wonder why they've gone for the overhang design. Maybe its cost, but cant help thinking a full width version might have looked better.
Probably gonna be hard to remove it if it's full width.
Yeah, possibly, so long as its not a rip-off will prolly still get one.

It's not sold in Singapore yet too.

Definately fugly. C'mon Samsung you can do better than this.
In a few clips Ive seen a bedside clock being shown, but I can't find a clock app on the phone to show a bedside clock ???? Weird.
Anyone got any info on that side ?
Be nice if the dock still worked even for the slight redesigned Captivate, but probably not. AT&T would probably make their own you have to buy.
Google these to find the oem car and desk mounts:
Desk mount: ECR-P968BEGSTD
Car mount: ECS-V968BEGSTD

http://1saleaday.com/wireless/ has the G-Tech Bluetooth Wireless Fabric Keyboard with Adjustable Key Sensitivity & ElekTex Flexible Technology
for ten bucks shipped. I just ordered it and won't have any idea about compatability or usefullness until I get it. But I imagine that it should be just fine.
Since it is a deal a day site. These deals are here one minute and gone the next.
I'll post a quickie review when it comes in.
EDIT; I just got back from reading the reviews at Amazon... Doesn't look good at all. Might work with the tablet, might not. Buy at your own risk. Next time I read the reviews first... DOH!
This would be really cool if it worked well!

Yeah, be nice if it works. I do not expect it too, but if I have any success I will post it here. The device actually requires an app installed on a pc or windows mobile phone(not the new windows phone) to work. There's like maybe a 2% chance that it will.
Sorry about cluttering the board with this...
At first I thought 'interesting' then I read the Amazon reviews, as you did, then I thought 'ouch'.
I thought I was the only only one to say meh its only ten dollars! Im still waiting and hoping it works at least twice.LOL
Im hoping this will work with the phone since the 10 amazon one wont because of outdated drivers. (works for HC though LOL)!
I bought this keyboard only to find out about it, after i got it home, that it does not work with android.
I do have a touchpad and it is suppose to work with palm OS so perhaps it will work on that tablet.
Anyone get it to work on android device or the touchPad running WebOS?
Gary
Hey guys, check this out:
[ok i'm not able to post external links, but search for blue piano]
This may work on the keyboard. Someone has tried it, but there are issues with the keyboard sending extraneous characters.

Found the app in the market... BluePiano.
It does seem to pick up the keystrokes. I've only tried the demo version. I think that those extra characters are a "feature" of the demo. Lol it is a 20 dollar app so the price of this cheap keyboard just went to the next level.
Thanks so much for the tip. I may get the app when I get paid.

http://phandroid.com/2011/10/04/leak-is-this-the-nexus-prime/
I know you’ve seen that thread title before. We’ve posed the question for at least two different renders now but later found those to be fake. So here it is again – is this the Nexus Prime As you can tell, it has a 720p HD display (it’s more like 1180×720, but who’s keeping score?) and has software buttons on the bottom, an optional feature in Ice Cream Sandwich for OEMs who don’t want to include hardware navigation buttons on their devices. DPI also sits at a cool 320 and unfortunately sources are hearing this may be a 4.3 inch device.
The Nexus Prime is rumored to be the first Ice Cream Sandwich device and will reportedly have a 4.5 inch – 5 inch display with the resolution mentioned above as well as a dual-core processor (we’re betting on the TI OMAP4 variety but wouldn’t be surprised – or mad – to see Exynos inside). We are awfully close to Samsung and Google’s October 11th event in San Diego so hopefully more of these leaks trickle out leading up to that. [GSMArena]

4.3" seems to be a typo that people are slowly correcting (first person to post this was GSMArena, they had it at 4.3" in the article, but 4.6" in the title, and it has since changed) Also, further speculation shows that the on screen buttons make up for the rest of the pixels (so it truly is 720p) . I believe it is real, and can't wait for it
Its basically 4.3" if you don't count the onscreen buttons as apart of the screen, 4.6" with.
Seems a little odd the button area is deep black and the background above is "greyish" The whole beauty of an AMOLED screen is the black should be pure black. When you look through the menus on the vibrant the text sits on a very deep black background. something is not right with this leaked picture

Well, If you take a closer look at the area below the buttons area. The area below buttons are in DEEPER BLACK.

Status bar is a little different also
In the middle of the screen the add/start button in the app is rounded as the material design.
Pic:
That could mean that maybe Sony has implemented some material design in their UI.

While the home button itself does not look bad in anyway, the misalignment and size difference makes it kind of odd. hope its not present when it finally lands on our phones
Looks good to me
uhgs.
first time i saw a picture of lolipop and material design i was like "but i do like my old navbar buttons"
Not having Xposed will make it even harder to change ~.~
But i fear the worst will be to find good looking alternatives. They do have to be at least a little modern / Material design.
Guess i'll have to create my own!
