What if I use the z4 root app? Do I get a recovery or is it just a simple root and that's it?

I used Z4Root about a week ago on a stock Evo, with the most recent software, at the bar and within 10 mins I had my friends Evo working as a hot spot. Now this is only a temporary root and doesn’t give you complete control of your phone. No recovery and other benefits of full root.
Now Z4oot is nice if all you want to do is tether, or maybe to use Titanium Backup. But it gets old quick and your time will be better spent using a permanent method of root. With all the great methods out their there isn’t a reason to use temporary root.
When I first rooted I used the temporary unrevoked method (pretty much the same as z4root). I have since moved on to full nand unlock I love the ability to take backups try some mod like a custom battery icon or a Rosie modification, or even a Rom with new sense (Warm Z Rocks!) and Know I can restore my phone back to a perfectly good working order.
I recommend using Unrevoked 3. Used that about 2 weeks ago to reroot my coworker’s evo after unrooting for warranty work.

Im new to Android coming from winmo, and this might be a noob question but is it possible to root the evo (with or without nand) without wiping / reseting the phone? If not is there a way to backup apps and settings before using something like simple root? I also already have both OTA's.

if you just want a basic root, definitely go with unrevoked. it doesn't require a wipe. if it were me, with a fresh phone, i would root with unrevoked, get titanium backup from the app store, backup my phone, then do a full root with nand unlock, update to the latest and greatest radio and OTA(it's built into most roms nowadays) and bam, enjoy the rooted freedom!
Thanks for the help. I had been using Unrevoked but after the last OTA it no longer works. So any other ideas?

Titanium Backup should take care of all your backup needs (you need to be rooted in order to use it)...

Will temp root work or do you have to perma root?
Do we have a guide for flashing custom ROMs yet? I see a guide on ROOT and S-OFF, but have no idea what these mean. Again, new to Android (from WM 6.5.5).
I never temprooted, did permroot immediately, but I would assume any type of root will do for TB.
You can always test it out, it's not like it's going to do any damage.
There's a billion guides outthere...every custom ROM so far I see comes with flashing instructions.
The only truly risky thing you can do is flash HBOOT with S-OFF.
For majority of your needs just rooting will do as it allows you to run programs with superuser priviledges, while flashing new HBOOT is for more advanced stuff (as it allows you to write to system partitions (S-OFF means Security OFF), and you can brick a phone very easily.
p.s.
New to Android since last week also, you just have to do some reading...it's all available on Google!
I just did a temporary root with z4. I did temporary cuz rooting I noticed made my phone slower & plus I'm not very entertained with the rooting thing. I have not came across anything super great yet. But what I want ask is since I'm TEMPORARY rooted, if I delete the 2 stock demo games then reboot, I know I'm not going be rooted anymore but will the phone be fine & will the stock apps still be gone?

As to whether or not the phone will be fine afterwards, i can't really answer. I've never done a temporary root, but i guess it's safe as they added the option.
And yes, whatever changes to make to your phone will stick after reboot, regardless of root status.
Since I purchased this phone I have had to Factory reset 3 times. Every time I lose all my save games. I have had to restart Zenonia every time. I am unsure I will ever finish this game. I discovered Visionary (for temp root until restart) and purchased Titanium Backup. It work great!
Now I see that we are going to be pushed Gingerbread. Have I wasted 6 bucks on Titanium backup? Is there an app that will provided the same functionality as Visionary on Gingerbread? I am happy with my stock phone. I just need the ability to backup my data. If I want to root my phone should I do it before the update? I read it will be more difficult with Gingerbread installed but I am also getting the impression that the Gingerbread update will not be pushed to my phone if I root it. Is this true?
No you will not get the OTA if you are rooted. If you do want to root your phone, you should do so before the update.
If its not 2.3.4 then gingerbreak MIGHT. Work

If I root my new Defy Plus using the one click root, how can I unroot it again, if I needed to send it back for example ?
Would a regular 'factory reset' take it back to unrooted state, or is there something else I'd need to do.
Try the unroot option in soc. If out don't work you can flash an avg anytime to restore the phone to 'just out of box' condition

Hi,
Not sure if Super one click will root the Defy plus. I tried it the first defy plus I got and it would not work.
Droid3 root did work though. I had to send it back due to it continually re booting. Used Pete's Root tools (think that's what it was called to un root it). Must have worked as I was sent a replacement phone with no problems.
Mind you the touch screen was faulty on that one. On my third defy plus and it is working fine after three days, fingers crossed!
Regards

Yes its the droid 3 root that works on the defy plus, I'll have to have a look for Pete's root tools if that's the way to unroot again.
does anyone know how can i be sure if my phone is unrooted or not? is that sure that pete's tools work?
Well, m8be a stupid question..
But what does it do ?
Can i put some other software on the root of this phone like i did on HTC ?
yes you can use new features on your phone like adblocker apps and for example you can delete apps that were installed on the device when you bought it.
Well i rooted my phone and somehow my camera (view from screen) ****ed up.
I tried a different android proggie from the market and did the same error.
So unroot did do the job and gave my camera and gave my view back.
Some1 got the same problem ?
I've never heard about such a problem before. but what program did you use to root and unroot the phone? cus we heard about a a few programs which work but let's make these things clear
DROID 3 easy root script v7
I also rooted my defy plus this afternoon, I used the newest version (2.3.1.0) of Super One Click and it worked. Both rooting and unrooting were finished and I also checked it with a few apps which need a rooted phone. Both rooting and unrooting were succesfull.
Because some apps works only on a rooted handy i tried again
with DROID 3 easy root script v7.
Superuser seems to work now.. also my camera
The only thing i didn't do is to go into boot section after the blue led thing.
