So, some semi-drunk iTard tonight was condescendingly dissing on my Evo when I was using it, dissing on its battery life and saying how his iPhone 4 was so much better blah blah blah.
First of all, it's just a f'n phone. It's not a status symbol.
But I had to put the guy in his place, so I replied:
"You're right. I wish I could buy a rubber bumper for my Evo but they don't make one. Actually, they don't make rubber bumpers for any phone. Just the iPhone, cuz it's so special"
Was he wearing skinny jeans by chance?
You could have been all.
"Do you know what else is square and lined with rubber?... a square wheel.. do you know who else makes a square wheel?.. nobody.. *look the guy dead in the face*..... because square wheels are ****ing retarded..."
Did you ask him if you could take a look at his battery?

I have my condescending thoughts about some iphone users but I've come to the conclusion that it wouldn't be very mature of me to verbally slam them. Better for me to just leave them alone in their own little la la land.
My opinion is that, besides not being able to play flash, it's decent hardware but ruined by the carrier it's on and how heavily the company that makes it censors apps.
ive only had a few iphone owners try to diss me lol and each time everyone else around me is just marvelling at it so the iphone person looks like an idiot.
most of the time when i bust my evo out even iphone owners just stare at the phone in jealousy

There's a simply remedy that is only 5 words long:
YOU'RE HOLDING IT WRONG!
"How does it feel having Steve Job's thumb up your ass?"
Always makes em mad lol.
Ehh the iPhone is okay, if I didn't already have my evo i might consider the iPhone 4. but what makes me mad is the everyday comment: "is that the iPhone?" while I'm on my evo. No you moron its the htc evo, and trying to convince older people android is pro as **** and the iphone is old news.
Hate it. lol

I love being out at coffee shops and other cafes people tend to use their phones to surf when my phone vibrates to let me know a device has connected to my tethering app. I can't tell y'all how many times it has said an iPhone is connected. My tether SSID is iPhone Sucks or iPhail(depending on the app). I wonder how many people have noticed it.
Also, if I am out I will always use the kickstand(hands down the most brilliant feature).
And I agree with how annoying it is when people ask if that is an iPhone. Just because it is a touchscreen doesn't make it an iPhone.
I love reading Evo/Android vs iPhone stories.

this...is easy to accomplish.
1.Pull out Phone.
2.Flip out Kickstand.

I'll recommend android to people and they like freak out and say apple is better...i think you all know how this goes haha, I just GTFO and let them think what they want.

Ditto on that. Another funny story, my coworkers and I were at Carl's Jr. a while back for lunch and some college kid is being all loud talking on his iPhone 4 and playing with his iPad at the same time while in line, while talking about how AWESOME his iPad is. *face palm*
Seriously, how much of a loser do you have to be to show off your gadgets for status?
Android users don't do that do we? Probably a VERY FEW. Most of us I think are just into our phones cuz we want to make them perfect (and unique) to ourselves. That's what's cool about Android, my perfect phone isn't your perfect phone. And if I'm showing another guy my phone, it's to show how mine's DIFFERENTLY set up than his and vice versa. Also, I'm always trying to convert normal Android users to power uses. Last week, I rooted my coworker's myTouch at work and put CyanogenMod on it. He was so stoked, he spent the next 3-4 days exploring all the new things his phone could do, suffice it to say, his wife hates me now. LOL
It seems rather ironic that these iPhone 4 users think they are so special just because their phone is "The iPhone" when there's a 17yr old girl right next to them with a phone that is THE EXACT SAME THING!
I have one friend who has an iPhone and whenever I pull my EVO out he always has to comment about what his iPhone does and how it does it better and yada yada yada. I think it's an inferiority complex cause it's like clockwork everytime.
I have no beef with the iPhone at all, I actually think it is a GREAT phone. I just like the EVO better. It pretty much does everything the iPhone does and more. Maybe it doesn't do it as smoothly as the iPhone but that isn't something I care about because if I did, I would have an iPhone just like all the other sheep out there with a pretty pink bumper, lol!

It just depedns on the user guys my friend has and iPhone (I had it too right next to the Evo but I cancel my contract) and I got the Evo so whenever we hang we actually don't care about the phone unless is some cool app that we haven't seen but sometimes people out there acts dumb when it comes to iPhone in general I know at least 4 of my friends don't want it no more and they don't want to pay ETF, and another 3 that there happy with the iPhone, one of cousin got Android cause recommended her and she came from iPhone and she is happy, but is just learning curve at first the die iPhone fans hate. No for nothing but iPhone is easy to use while Android it has it learning curve but with that you end up getting more

With the Iphone, it's all about the apps, they have a more mature app market so their apps will shine for now. But Android OS does so much more.
Does the iPhone 4 have Google Voice Actions?
Google should pull an Apple and remove all their software from the iPhone. What would the iPhone be w/o Google's apps?

whats so funny about it?
I'm shocked there is a Nexus One theme for the iPhone. Maybe I shouldn't be...
There was probably a Nexus One theme for them before the Nexus One was shipping.
Maybe this is what Steve Jobs is so mad about. He can't believe people want to make his device look like its something better than what it is
The only thing that makes me laugh is how ridiculously horrible the theme actually is. Most of the iphone themes look semi-decent.
I have a feeling he's going to get alot of prank phone calls

i actually find this hilarious lol...you got all these fanboys bumming off the iphone...and then you uncover that deep down in their hearts they wish they had the nexus. finally the time has come when instead of people saying 'oooo thats like the iphone'...the tide has now turned to 'no wayyyy...thats like the nexus!!' haha...classic
teehee. whose jealous now, *****es?
I find it humorous that people in these forums go out of there way to bash another phone os. I came from nextel i836-> i850-> i870-> htc wing-> g1-> mytouch-> N1. I have never owned an iphone but I have used them, and I find very simple things on it such as smooth as hell scrolling, and when jailbroken all the little customizations are indeed awesome. I would never own one, but to sit her and bash iphone users, owners etc... is just plain sad. My N1 is not soooo far superior to iphone that I should just laugh at iphone owners and say they are jealous of my "wonderful" "beautiful" "amazing" N1. I love my phone and I love using it, but seriously guys seems to me you are insecure over something lol

lol yeh u are right. i hope it stays that way too tho. i wouldn't want to get on the tube and everyone sitting next to me has the nexus. if i meet someone else with a nexus i wanna be able to ask them 'what kernel are u running' instead of 'what does your lock screen say?'
and i wouldnt say anyone is bashing. and if people are, i wouldnt say they are going out their way, iphone bashing is in quite a lot of peoples way lol
That looks hideous. I admit, though, I didn't realize a jailbroken iPhone was that customizable. But still ugly as sin. Ew, that resolution.

Quite a few people have recognised mine - "oh, is that the Google phone" - and shown a fair bit of interest.
I've always been a bit of a gadget freak (before the Nexus One I had Palm Pre, Htc Magic, G1, Nokia 6610....) but now I've found my personal ideal mix of currently available hardware & software I'm happy.
With the iPhone Apple hit the sweet spot for a lot of people. That and a strong brand identity let them sell a smartphone to a lot of consumers who wouldn't normally have looked for a "smartphone".
I suspect that this year will see a lot of mainstream consumers picking up Android devices - all it needs is some solid carrier backing.
One day, i noticed a kid on the subway staring at my phone while being with his friends. after 20 minutes he apparently loses it and he screams "OMG NEXUS ONE!"

The software is horrible, but the hardware is pretty good. The iPhone is popular because it's easy to learn and has more apps than any other OS. Oh, and guess what's in the iPhone. A Samsung processor.
No matter what Apple comes out with I will never get another one of their products. The thing that really sets Android from iOS and the iPhone is there is only 1 phone with iOS and there have been over 40 released android phones with atleast 12 more confirmed to be released and over 10 rumored phones.
I still believe that Android will out sale iPhone no matter where it goes.
Apple provides no freedom to its subscribers other than the reveled "App Store" that's about as varietal as it gets for them. No alternate phones to use, no alternate homescreen, GUI (unless jailbroken i suppose) just the same tried nd true iphone with a faeclift and some hardware changes from time to time some for the better, some for the worse lol. I love their PC's nd laptops but i will NEVER own an iphone.
If anyone here really has that big of a boner for the Iphone4 I'd be really suprised. It's not a bad phone but I just hate apple, and it doesn't do anything that the EVO or any other phone coming out can't do. I'd take an EVO over that any day. I'm android from here on out.
This video sums up this entire thread lol!!!
http://www.break.com/index/iphone-4-vs-htc-evo.html
Its still the same iPhone4 just a new radio. As the Android Phones continue to evolve it will still be what is out right now.
I work with a bunch of people who all have Iphone's and talk amongst each other and it kills me, I think it's safe to say I'm an android snob. One could say that I think I'm better for owning an android phone and having it rooted. I might argue at first, but honestly I can't help it. Apple to me is like owning a prius, and Android is like owning ****ing Optimus Prime.

But seriously, I too feel the same way, I'm a college student and everyone rich kid and their parents have an iphone and think that they are so cool. All i can think when i see them, is my phone is better than yours. And i have a hero! a phone that in the rapid pace phone world, is obsolete.

And yet, i agree with this. While i would never own an iphone willingly, i do have a macbook and i couldn't be happier with it. I can do anything i want on it and it never fails me. No crashes, no freezing, no viruses. Nothing. Its solid.
But at the same time, i don't carry it around with me everywhere so everyone can see my macbook. I don't go sit in coffee shops just to surf the internet. I chose a macbook not cause it's the cool thing to have, but because I believed it was the best choice i could make. So I'm not an apple hater, I just think that if I'm spending a considerable amount of money on a tech device, it better work to its complete and full potential.

i used to hate android when it first came out, that's when winmo was the hot seller back in 2007-2008. yes it is the most popular os out there "right now" but im sure something will trump android in the near future. what im waiting to see is the next webos device.
If the iPhone was available for Sprint.... I would buy it. The only reason I didn't get one in the first place is because AT&T makes you pay out the ass every month. The iPhone 4 is the best phone on the market right now. The only downside to iPhone is that you can't customize it as well as Android, but... you can put Android on the iPhone! Again, the iPhone is the best phone you can buy right now.
The way it looks now, HTC, Motorola, and maybe even Samsung and LG are going to all be putting out phones that will be directly competing with not only the iPhone, but each other also. That's cool that Apple busts out hardware that puts all these companies in there place for a minute, but on the software sides of things, I'll take Android any day. The nonstop onslaught of Android phones coming out makes me think the Iphone4 won't be on top hardware wise for very long. They seem to be up against almost every phone manufacturer now.

When I saw a picture of the Nexus S, I thought, what a ugly phone. Then, I saw that it's made by Samsung, nothing against Samsung but to me their phones are cheap The phone doesn't deserve the Nexus name. IMO HTC makes the best phones. I have three friends that have Galaxy S's, and their always asking me for my N1, to use my navigation, and make phone calls, because they're always losing their signal, and their GPS is screwy, plus they have ****ty battery life, so they live on their chargers. I keep telling them to root, but they want me to do it for them, I stopped rooting peoples phones who refuse to educate themselves about rooting, because they're always calling you with problems, because they don't understand. Another thing, I was thinking about buying the Evo, but my friend has it and the resolution is crap, the colors are dull, almost to the point of transparency, I think HTC focused too much on having the biggest screen, so I won't be buying that crap, I thought that all the high-end android devices after the N1 would blow us out, but have done nothing except confirm that I made the right choice with my Sexy Nexy, so we'll be together a little while longer. I thought the N2 would go in the direction of the Desire look, that's a classy phone, that has a professional look for older gents like myself, I'm very disappointed that Google gave Samsung the contract.

hmm yeah that will be it. so samsungs crappy build is no longer a concern.
the "ill never buy a samdung" brigade have scuttled back under there rocks.
Is it possible its something as simple as google wanting to continue use of a amoled screen capable phone for dev. phone purposes? I mean thats one of the main interest points ive noticed when anyone sees my N1. Everyone says "wow the screen is so crisp". Seeing how samsung took amoled away from everyone else just kind of makes sense on googles part if that be the case.
Nothing against HTC, they make great phones but i just wonder if use of amoled is more paramount than most give credit for. Look at it this way, all phone makers can more or less make the same kind of phones hardware wise. Only difference being is samsungs ability to use amoled. Just a thought , nothing more.
i read on here that HTC said the N1 would be thier first and last phone designed for a non carrier and that is why google had to go else where. I'd have prefered motorola, but samsung is an ok 2nd choice. HTC would obviously have been my first but they are out of the question. All i really care about is vanilla android with updates from google, a nice sized screen, good hardware, and a nice design.
the nexus S has all of the above minus the nice design...but it has helped me realize that the design weights a lot more in my purchasing decision than I had previously thought. I dont see myself buying a nexus s if it looks like the leaks orion processor or not
So any iPhone owners ditching Apple and coming to sexy Nexy Just curious to see what you think of the new Nexus-S compared to your old iPhone, specifically if any iPhone 4 users picked up a N-S, or have both ? What are your opinions ?
I bought the Nexus-S this morning, and loving it, the Super AMOLED screen is drool worthy, and it feels very snappy and fast. My Brother and Sister both have the iPhone 4, it is a cool little phone, even better, if jailbreaked and a custom theme and custom icons installed But my siblings not daring enough to attempt that, so in stock form I find the iPhone 4 super lame, with just rows of app icons and small 3.5" screen.
I think this Summer will be the biggest battle yet between the iPhone 5 and Android 3.0 Honeycomb phones. Should be pretty interesting to see what they both bring.
Well, I've been on T-Mobile since February. Got the Nexus One, Vibrant for like a week, then and unlocked iPhone 4 in July. Just got my Nexus S today, and I love it. The two OS's have their advantages and disadvantages. Customization is way better on Android, there's just more choice. The iOS is the most refined user experience, and is more consumer friendly. The two are about even when you average everything out, but Android has more choice in terms of hardware, software, carrier, so I believe it has the current advantage which has contributed to it's rapid growth.
Why do people have to always ask the iPhone user, the average iPhone user doesnt know jack about what a good phone is

The average Android user doesn't know much about Android either. The employee at Best Buy told me he was mad he got a crappy Android phone (the devour, idk why anyone would buy that) and how he wanted one with the "WiFis hots spot"

BBY sucks a crapload o' ass
Yea, I keep pretty cutting edge with phones... so when i go into my rogers store, apple store asking for accessories, phones etc.... most of the time they as what is that? lol....
no one even knew I could just cut my sim into a micro sim and walk out.... or if I ask for samsung focus accessories, or my favorite, when he tried to tell me not to get the galaxy tab because it cannot make voice calls.... and to buy an ipad....
either way, I enjoyed my iphone 4. It has a great ui, screen, speed, apps.. overall, a great phone.... however, after 3g, 3gs, 4... it gets a little boring..... my nexus one I thought was a great change of pace, then the 4, then the desire hd, samsung focus and nexus s....
it is smooth, fast and beautifully designed... I wish they stuck with htc... but that is another discussion... It is my first night playing with it though, my only downside is NO 3g on my carrier....

HTC doesn't make Super AMOLED screens, and all their phones look the same after a while. There are like 25 HTC HD2's now, the Desire/Nexus and those tiny 3" screen offsprings. They have no imagination, and throw their hideous Sense on all their crap.
The Nexus S on the other hand, I think the S is for Sexy. This phone is futuristic and slick, with its slight bend, screen looks infused into the phone, like they're one. Bottom headphone jack, bottom charging port, perfect spots. This phone looks like its a few years a head of the rest in design at least. I've gotten nothing but amazed/mesmerized reactions.

iPhone user: Could I High-noon on this funky curvy thing?
iPhone user: "Isn't Nexus like a thing from Star Trek? Huh, it's a phone? OMG like, whatever!"

My brother in law: "Wow, first android phone to make me really consider switching. I just cant take the app downgrade, but damn thats a cool phone. If I could justify two lines I would own it in an instant."

I agree on all your NS opinions, but IMO sense is easily the best OEM skin and I absolutely love HTC's hardware design ideas. My Evo is as gorgeous as a phone gets IMO. Better size screen than the NS; anyone that thinks its too big needs a fatter wallet or bigger undies, cause my Evo is definitely not the biggest thing in my pants Vanilla android, yes please. But personally, my experience with a grip of android phones tells me that HTC is far and away the best hardware quality OEM. If only they pushed the limit, ala Hummingbird 6 mo ago. Cant wait for the Scorpion, too bad my Verizon experiences have sucked like no other. Fortunately with this phone we get Samsungs amazing hardware with Google support. We all picked up the best single core phone, easy.
BBM store I picked up my Nexus at had 2-3 employees that I made good friends with just chatting about android and it's success and beautiful phones like the Nexus S (hey that rhymes lol) anyways, they knew I knew what I was talking about (more than they did) and, well, after all I had talked about I had them ALL considering very hard on switching to the Nexus S. 1 with an Iphone 4, 1 with a windows phone 7, and 1 with a blackberry. I got converts from all other competing platforms in 1 shot
Nice! All the BBM employees I interacted with had a iPhone4, and all of them knew nothing about Android. The sales douche even mentioned how awesome it was that the NS was running froyo. O wait.....

I would have to disagree and say the iPhone 4 is the best phone on the market. It has the best screen, best camera, best hd video, best app store, best music store, best video chat, best 3rd party accessories, and it's the thinnest. I would buy one if it were on T-Mobile (my mom has me on her family plan, can't beat free). So, instead I have an iPod 4G and a G2 (which ain't no slouch either).

Good point, iPhone4 is a fantastic phone. I use my brotherinlaws as much as he'll let me. But I like the NS's screen more than the iPhones IPS display. Apps honestly dont compare, but most Android fans (that arent living in Googles rectum) would concede that point unless theyre unfamilier with iOS. Qik works great so far for me. Talk to my sis in SLC all the time over it. iPhone is awesome, but the NS is more satisfying to my "must overclock/hack the crap out of" needs.
I overheard a dude at work who is looking to get his first smartphone (on AT&T)that he was probably going to give-in and get an iPhone.
I asked him why he wanted the iPhone and he said because no other phone out there can touch it from his impression.
I asked him what it had that other phones out there didn't have and he obviously didn't do his homework yet, though he still had already developed the "desire" to get the iPhone. I know it's because of advertising, but the real thing was I couldn't nail down exactly why an Android phone would be better, or even what phone would trump it on AT&T...
The Captivate doesn't have a front facing camera which I believe is kind of necessary to really stack up against Apple's phone.
Anyone have any simple advice I can give this guy to stay away from Apple? He is obviously not that smart on phones, so I know he is adverse to custom ROMS unless I can convince him otherwise. Thanks.
Let him get what he wants unless you wanna have to hear him complain when he can't figure this or that out or if this app is not available. Less stress for you down the line. To each his own.

True, android only better if you give it a chance and willing to play around.

If he really wants the iPhone, he should get the iPhone.
If he isn't really sure what he wants, I would suggest that he go to the store and try out different phones in person. Sometimes a phone isn't what you expect when you finally get to play with it.
Also, I think if you're going to upgrade, make sure there are at least 2 phones you're interested in. In case you hate your first choice, you can take it back during the return period and exchange it for your second choice.

Thanks, good advice.
I would only try and direct him away from locking in on a contract on an iPhone that's been out 6+ months when the next iPhone is right around the corner. May as well lock in on a brand new device to get the most out of it.
He should get the iPhone. It's a great phone and perfect for people who dont know how or dont care to modify their phone.
I prefer my Vibrant and wouldnt trade it for an iPhone 4G, but thats me, and I understand that for most people out there an iPhone is better, even if only because it makes them feel good to have the fashionable bling. To each his own.
-edit-
Agree with the poster above. Convince him to wait a few months for the next iPhone.

That is the best advise possible. My coworker fell in love with my vibrant and wanted the equivalent on verizon. Since then every day there is new questions. I like helping people, but not a single day goes by wiouth something new to ask me. Be prepared for that.
I would let him know about a little phone coming out next week-ish called the Motorola Atrix w/ its dual-core awesomeness. Otherwise let him follow the cult of jobs.
I think the op just really wants to show him that there are other phones out there just as good as the iphone.
I know a co-worker of mine felt the same way and after talking with him he has now decided to go with the htc thunderbolt.
I agree with everyone else its just insane to go with a old phone when I new one is just around the corner. I swear if the 2g was still out everyone would still buy that
Thunder bolt!

its very simple and others might not like my thought process but..
iphone is for simple minded sheep, android is for smart people.
if he has his heart set on an iphone, do not try and convince him, because if you make all these arguments of android being greater (and since he does not know his way around a phone), he is going to get a captivate, probably with android 2.1 + lag + gps problems + w/e other problems it came with, and i doubt he would know how to flash a new rom etc.
Then you will be 'that bastard that convinced me to throw away $200 plus my upgrade', and then one day he will climb up you window with a chainsaw (or machete if he is not that strong) and ....
Im not going to lie but the iphone is a pretty powerful machine. Dont hold me to this but i have heard that the processor is underclocked to 1 ghz to save battery..
But the os is so locked down which makes it better in some ways and worse in others.. if you havent noticed, the iphone sets the standard for smartphones, its always "well it compares to.the iphone this.... iphone that..." .
Apple does their research right and always sets the bar for smartphones. The reason it is not customizable is so that everything will work correctly. I personally don't prefer that I can't change anything (without jailbreaking of course, which is a pain in the ass) .
I kind of have the best of both worlds with an ipod touch 4g. Its very very fast and has excellent battery life but its just so boring..
So if he's not tech savvy then tell him to wait for the next iphone. However if he is lol tell him to wait for the samsung galaxy s 2.

Ios is so ugly compared to what we have with android. It is so busy. I never noticed until I got used to android, but now when I see someone using an iphone I can't help but think that the screen is annoyingly crammed full of icons. Who wants to look at all that junk?
Also the screen is noticably smaller
To me a 4" android screen is infinitely more plesant to use.
