Folders on home screen - Xoom General

Is there a way to create folders on the home screen like 2.X?

I have the same question. For the life of me I can't figure out how to make a folder. As a work around I downloaded "Group My Apps" from the Market as a work around until somebody tells me how to make a folder.

I am using folder organizer. Icons are still somewhat small for the screen but its a good alternative

Ultimate launch question.

Trying to create a button link to "settings" in my verizon ppc for UL, any ideas?
thank you very much.
Jon
"UltimateLaunchConfig.exe" is the app. What kind of "button link" do you want? In a UL button? or a hard button?
If you mean create a button to show the settings menu, this should work for you:
Go to Windows\Start Menu
Copy Settings
Paster a shortcut (for settings) anywhere.
create a new button using the shortcut you created

Much respect to all first and foremost. From my experience with UL, that may work for some applications located in the Windows folder, but not all. For instance, you cannot create a shortcut for the Today settings to switch up your themes, Power/Soft Reset , or even Remove Programs either. There's a slew of programs that can't be made into shortcuts within UL. It's perhaps a limitation of UL.
But there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. If one desperately wants to create /include such applications (Power, Resetting, Today, etc) with UL, one can install Mobile Shell because it create shortcuts in itself, which UL can then detect. Pocket Plus may be able do the same, but I'm uncertain.
Also, the word on the street, the next version will be 'better' and I don't have the slightest clue as to when that release will surface. I'm no expert, just a big fan like of UL. My two cents.
this answer is a little bit wrong:
1. you can make a Shortcut to ANY wm setting. example: command: ctlpnl, param: cplmain.cpl,10 (for uninstalling software) search in the other ul threads.
2. Daniel Who wrote UL made also some "smartutilities" for make calll, toggle wifi, softreset and many more, google for it. this are small .exe you can link to.
yes, i was attempting to have a button inside of UL access the settings area. I have the xv6700 which appears to have a problem with keeping UL on the today screen after a soft reset. so before I soft reset I need to change my today plugin to something else. otherwise when i reboot nothing shows up and will not load any other plug-ins. Makes it easy to have a quick link cause I'm not a stylus fan.
Thank you very much guys. would have never thought of making a short cut of it. thanks again!

Good information. This seems to be a hot topic at the moment and assume this info hasnt been highlighted before. Perhaps a brave soul will post some shortcut command params, directions/instructions in their spare time, and have them listed/located in one thread for easy like the icons. (And also some of those "smartultilities" as well).
How about game area ? my problem 's it's difficult to create all game in icons. so I would like to make a link to call all game folder as when we call it by startmenu

Well, I'm not very brave, but I knew this page existed on PPCSG.COM, so I thought I'd share it. It shows how you can create .LNK files to many of the Settings Applets. Hope it helps.

Here is a link to majority of the settings options:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=340974
Just find the one you want, open notepad on your PC copy the line into notepad, with only that text, and save as power.lnk, for example, then have the button set to that link.
Any Idea on how to add a folder shortcut? I want to have my different photo albums
Is there a way to specify the appropriate ICON in the .lnk file? I have the "cplmain.cpl,26" working but it just shows a generic icon.
Just change the icon in the display tab.

Did you ever get an answer on this? If so, how do you make a shortcut to a folder? I've tried using the context menu of creating a shortcut and then having UL point to the shortcut but it doesn't open it.
Thanks for any info!
would like to know this as well.

I hadn't used this yet, but resco explorer has an option (you have to edit the regsitry for it) that let's you load folders according to command line arguments (then you can use UL to load the folder in resco straight using a command line).
you should check it out.

Folder

The "add folder" feature is quite a useful way of grouping and tydying up apps onthe home screens but, whilst it is possible to cahnge the name to say "Games" is there any options to cahnge the look away from the plain folder. In the Market there a few apps that go beyond that but I am looking to keep it simple.
I know you want to keep it simple but Folder Organizer sounds like the EXACT thing you need. I couldn't live without it now!

yes you can, open the folder you want to rename and long press on the name. and there you go.
The downside of the default folders is that you cannot modify or change the layout of the stuff inside them like folderorganize
I think I have found the solution in Apps Organisers. Allows you to add new folded with a choice icons - not just the plain folder

can some directory be fobidden to show in the picture galery

Hi,
since i updated my DHD with the OTA update, i can see ALL pictures that are in the phone's memory in the picture galery app..
is there a way to told the picture galery to ignore some folders..
MOD edit: Moved to General
Cheers,
M_T_M
Yes. Add empty file called
.nomedia
In the folder
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
or when you load up gallery, click menu and show/hide folders then untick what folders you dont want to show
the main idea is to prevent friends/child or whatever to see pics that are not for them (like a sexy girlfriend for example)
the hide menu in galery is too easy ...
there is no password or something like that, so if you share your phone for 1 min to someone, he can found the hidden albums in 10 secs ....
I'll try the nomedia hopping that it will do the work...
One last question: how to remove the thumbnails without deleting the content ?
the .nomedia trick worked ...
but i needed to put this file on the parent directory, not the directory containing the pictures

hmm when i start gallery and klick on menu nothing happens, no menu is comming up. i wanna exclude some folders. how can i change that, is there any other way?
is the menu not coming up because its still loading/refreshing?
Update: wow its tricky to get this menu opened up...
i tried to put the .nomedia file in the parent folder, but it doesnt work....
i also cleared the cache of gallery, and after startup the same again.
i would like to uncheck some "system - pictures" wich i dont need in gallery
Question:
is there a programme, which actually shows the folder structure for pictures.
like my pictures -> test -> test1
-> test2
because gallery shows only
my pictures
test
test1
test2
I installed and application called hide it pro today (free) from market, it lets you hide anything with a password. Installs as 'audio manager' and there is a hidden button in that to get to the login screen. Pretty nice!

When I load gallery, if I hit menu nothing happen.
Then I select 'All photos' then hit menu and only 3 buttons appears: 'slide show', 'Define as', 'Select reader'.
So nothing about 'show/hide folders'. Where do you find that ??
Thanks
Other way to hide folder from gallery is to name it ".anyfoldername"
The dot in the beginning is the key. My windows computer would not let me create such folder, so I made one in my phone and then moved files to it from a computer.
By the way, in Gallery all photos are displayed 'flat' whatever the folder hierachy is.
In other word, I cannot browse photos by folder they belong to.
It was possible in my previous Magic with many different ROMs (stock 1.6, Cyanogen,...).
This is quite anoying because I have +400 photos stored in +10 folders.
Scroll down and there you should be able to see the folders...

I had to delete application data through Application settings for it to rescan.
It found my folders

[Q] create folder in menu

Is there a way to create a folder/s in the menu and put the applications on it ?
I want to put all of my games (icons) into 1 folder called games.
And some applications into another folder.
Im using CM7 btw..
Thanks.
There are a few apps that allow you to put apps into folders - normally for the homescreen, but actually having folders, a-la windows 6.5, i havent seen im afraid.
Yea, the folderes r not in the home screen.
In the menu, when window button pressed, there is Setup Group option, but when i choose it, it says "You can not setup this group"
Thanks for ur answer btw kinsago
You have to create a new group, then set it up. You can't edit the original group. After you make the new group you can exclude apps though. I still wish there was a way to put folders in the app drawer though, it's a mess with a ton of apps all just thrown in there alphabetically.

Exactly.
So no way to do this at all ?..
You can make a new group/catalog (let's call it "Games") using menu at app drawer. Then scroll right - you'll see empty screen. Now you can setup this group - by choosing which applications (games) should be visible on it. This way you've got main screen with all aplications, but by scrolling horizontal you can choose another groups with chosen apps (Games, Office and so on)
I also do not know any way to create folders at main App drawer screen
Yea, i got it.
The problem is the app icon not moved to the group, still in the main App drawer, just like copying instead of cut.

Home Screen Shortcut to SD card Folder?

Is there a way of creating a shortcut on my homescreen to a folder located on my SD card? I did a bit of research and the Astro File Manager solution does not seem to work for me. Is there another way?
"ES File Explorer" app will allow you to create a shortcut. Select the Dir and a sub menu will list several options, one being "shortcut"

Yes but unlike ES File Explorer you can not create a Shortcut, which is a shame as Solid Explorer has now become my favourite file manager over ESE.
