can some directory be fobidden to show in the picture galery - Desire HD General

Hi,
since i updated my DHD with the OTA update, i can see ALL pictures that are in the phone's memory in the picture galery app..
is there a way to told the picture galery to ignore some folders..
MOD edit: Moved to General
Cheers,
M_T_M

Yes. Add empty file called
.nomedia
In the folder
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

or when you load up gallery, click menu and show/hide folders then untick what folders you dont want to show

the main idea is to prevent friends/child or whatever to see pics that are not for them (like a sexy girlfriend for example)
the hide menu in galery is too easy ...
there is no password or something like that, so if you share your phone for 1 min to someone, he can found the hidden albums in 10 secs ....
I'll try the nomedia hopping that it will do the work...
One last question: how to remove the thumbnails without deleting the content ?

the .nomedia trick worked ...
but i needed to put this file on the parent directory, not the directory containing the pictures

hmm when i start gallery and klick on menu nothing happens, no menu is comming up. i wanna exclude some folders. how can i change that, is there any other way?
is the menu not coming up because its still loading/refreshing?
Update: wow its tricky to get this menu opened up...
i tried to put the .nomedia file in the parent folder, but it doesnt work....
i also cleared the cache of gallery, and after startup the same again.
i would like to uncheck some "system - pictures" wich i dont need in gallery
Question:
is there a programme, which actually shows the folder structure for pictures.
like my pictures -> test -> test1
-> test2
because gallery shows only
my pictures
test
test1
test2

I installed and application called hide it pro today (free) from market, it lets you hide anything with a password. Installs as 'audio manager' and there is a hidden button in that to get to the login screen. Pretty nice!

When I load gallery, if I hit menu nothing happen.
Then I select 'All photos' then hit menu and only 3 buttons appears: 'slide show', 'Define as', 'Select reader'.
So nothing about 'show/hide folders'. Where do you find that ??
Thanks

Other way to hide folder from gallery is to name it ".anyfoldername"
The dot in the beginning is the key. My windows computer would not let me create such folder, so I made one in my phone and then moved files to it from a computer.

By the way, in Gallery all photos are displayed 'flat' whatever the folder hierachy is.
In other word, I cannot browse photos by folder they belong to.
It was possible in my previous Magic with many different ROMs (stock 1.6, Cyanogen,...).
This is quite anoying because I have +400 photos stored in +10 folders.

Scroll down and there you should be able to see the folders...

I had to delete application data through Application settings for it to rescan.
It found my folders

Yeah, this sucks, on winmo htc sense this was possible... unfortunately HTC Sense for android in some aspects has taken a step back...

the files are accessible uncrypted in a .myVault folder ^^
i first througth the password was crypting the files (because it took some time)
but no the files are freely visible
ok at least there are not in the galery

Changing TF3D Photos and Videos album location

Hey
I want to store my photos and videos on my storage card. I have changed this setting in the advanced menu on the camera settings but now i can't see them when i flick through the photos on the TF3D photos and videos screen.
Is it possible to change the folder location settings so that it shows my photos on the TF3D screen?

Hi There,
You can store your photos on yoru storage card then go to TF3D photos and select Album - then select Albums - you should have the option to select your Storage Card now (sometimes you have to select Albums twice for the storage card - probably just read time).
Select the album you want to appear on TF3D and open it. Then click Menu and select Set Album as Favourite.
Your selected album now appears on TF3D - what i tend to do is make a compilation album of my favourite photos for TF3D and make that my favourite - then i have my normal albums on my storage card.
Hope this helps.
On a similar subject, is there anyway of storing more 'personal' photos elsewhere which are not viewed in TouchFlo 3D? Also, is it possible to password protect certain folders?
I have not used a WinMo device before
Thanks, that was great! I appreciate it...

On the Same note, I'd like to change where the Videos are stored. I don't like them placed into the same folder as the picutres.
Is it just a reg entry?

Use Total Commander, select the 'sensitive' pictures and set them to hidden on their properties. You could make a new directory, call it Dodgy Pics (or whatever). Paste your sensitive material into the new directory, select all and set them to hidden, then hide the directory too!
(will only visible using Total Commander or Resco, etc)

You could put 'em in an encrypted zip file.

use file explorer or sync from your computer and make a SD CARD VIDEOS folder or whatever you wish to name it. This folder and subfolders will show up in Album - Albums view

small start menu

Hey, some time ago i changed some things on my HTC HD and one of those things is my start menu. When i open the start menu i see a list of smaller icons than you see in the standard start menu. In the beginning you only see the 7 programs that you want your start menu to show. But somehow i've changed my start menu which shows the following now:
Agenda
Messages
Contacts
Internet Explorer
Notes
Telephone
-------------
//Recently opened apps
App1
App2
App3
...
-------------
Programs
Settings
Help
The problem is, is that i forgot how i did this... So i was hoping any of you could tell me how i did this.. If i get the chance all also try to add a picture of my menu and the default menu, so you get a better picture of what i mean.

Using a file explorer, you can add or delete new folders to your 'Start Menu' folder. Name them like: Web, Travel, Utilities, System and Media. Copy relevant shortcuts from you 'Programs' folder in your 'Start Menu' folder to each of these new folders. You will need to use a 3rd party file explorer to unhide system files and rom files to see the pre-installed icons to copy them to your folders. These icons are '.ink' shortcuts. Also copy the entire 'Games' folder and 'Office' folder from your 'Programs' folder direct to your 'Start Menu' folder. Finally uncheck all checked boxes in Menus in Settings page. This will allow all 9 folders to show in your Start menu on your home page, where you can access specific apps much quicker. Remember each time you install or remove a program/game, you have to either copy the new 'ink' icon to your category folder or delete it.
You can also use utility apps like HDTweak & Advanced Config to change size of Start Menu
If you go to Start/Settings/System/TouchFLO you also can change Start Menu size

Do either of you use microsoft my phone? If so it may have backed up your pictures then copied them back after rom upgrade creating 2 copies of them all? Only thing that springs to mind.
i think may be album cache is the reason after folder content changing. try reboot your device.
update:
touch albums. touch albums again. you will see 2 first options: "all" and "camera shots".
if you choose "camera shots", you will see duplicated photos.
if you choose "all", you will NOT see duplicated photos.
so, choose all for your comfort.
i do this i select all but when i exit album and i entering album again then i see all photos and videos twice again :S
sorry for my english
hi yeaks,
try this way:
after you select "all", touch "menu" then touch "set album as favorite". you will see an infor box appeared saying that "... has been set as your favorite album. you can go to the photos & videos tab on home to view the album". you have done.
you can choose another folder to be your favorite also, except "camera shots". seem duplicate issue appear only with this option.
so, choose everything you want BUT NOT "camera shots".
if this works for you, please confirm.
good luck.
thanx for your reply
i chose set album favorite, but, when i exit albums
and i entering albums again the problem is still going on...

See thread here, same problem there, no solution though. Someone there posted that this is happens when you change the language in manila, dunno if its true or not.
thanx bro im waiting for a fix
Hi ALL
Try to navigate to My Device\Application Data\HTC\HTC Album and delete cache files.than if you have Total commander or Resco Explorer in the folder which is showing you dual files delete Album Cache file.but it is hiden file that's why you need advanced browser to be able to see them.
as far as i can remember this has solved this kind of problem for me some time ago.
and maybe Soft Reset...
the solution is there

hmmm. it looks strange.
let's try again.
when you choose album folders the menu will display 3 parts like that:
part 1:
all (xxx)
camera shots (xxx)
part 2:
my device
graphics and sounds (xxx)
my wallpapers (xxx)
part 3:
storage card
100media (xxx) (this is folder storing photos shoted by your camera)
for example i choose 100media then i will see photos thumbnails. then i touch menu then "set album as favorite" then ok. then back to home today screen. now when i return to photos & videos tab touch albums i will see "100media" in the left top conner of the title bar. DO YOU SEE THE SAME ?
i have tried all folders. for me just only folder "camera shots" get wrong. even in the folder list the number of photos on this folder exaclty the same number of photos on "all" folder.
someone said about manila language. this may be an issue.
just my 2 cents.
I've the same problem
Is it possible to change the default folder "camera shots" every time that i'm opening the album?
"hi yeaks,

thanks mate .it works on my HD2

[Q] Folders with images.

I've put some icons on my Wildfire (Like 500), and I nicely organized them with 5 folders each containing 100, but when I go to the window to change the icon of an application it just shows all of the icons (500), and doesn't show any folders.
Does anyone know how to let my phone display the folders with icons in them instead of loading all of them in one time?

well, i am not much an expert but why dont you try downloading "picturen lite" from market. and then when you change an icon, select picturen lite to complete the action instead of gallery. see if it works....
Download quickpic from the market.
Also, I had another question.
When opening a folder it gave me the choice ''Open with Pictures/OI File Manager''.
I accidentally did ''Remember'' and I wan't to choose the other one now, what do I do?
Menu> settings> applications> manage applications, go to the app that is selected as default and tap clear defaults.
Go to Settings->Applications-> Manage apps-> choose the app you set as default and tap on 'Clear defaults'
Thanks, both of you !
