Odin froze on me looking for pit something. I'm going from rooted only di18 to the new eb13. So I can get into download mode still. Do I just need to keep trying to flash the tar in the pda or do I need to do the pit instead? Thanks
Or should I try the samsung utility, I have that too.

If you are using the full system tar, you do not need the pit. The pit is used for flashing kernels and modems.
Since you can still get into download mode, I'd just use the samsung flash tool. Worked great for me, and I came from a rooted DK28 build. It takes care of everything for you, completely wipes the phone, no need to mess around with Odin. I know Odin can be temperamental at times.

I agree. Odin is not meant for consumers.
Okay, thanks will try the samsung utility then. Thanks. Will advise on how things turn out....
I can still do this even tho the phone doesn't boot up right? I get that phone and monitor picture. But i can get to download.
The file you need for flashing now, being in the download mode, for updating to EB13, is this: http://www.multiupload.com/F0JFA0487M. This file was posted by Whosdaman, in the Development thread. You won't need the PIT file. Use Odin's PDA box to flash this ROM.

im not sure to update or not. people seem to be having alot of problems with this froyo update and some arent. i think its mainly due to not wiping. my main concern is ive seen some users not like the update and are having trouble going back to di18. anyone been able to use odin and go back to di18? if so did you use the older odin or newer and did you use the pit file? i dont want to update if i cant get back to di18. i have the older and newer odin on my computer. another question i know for the old version of odin you had to extract and thedirections for the newer one doesnt. anybody know why? thanks

I used the original ODIN w/ the original PIT file... works fine. ODIN doesn't care what version OS is on your phone, it wipes EVERYTHING out
You can also flash the stock di18 rom using clockwork. Just make sure you do a data wipe and use a rom that formats the system before it installs.

is this method okay to use too?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861259
I went back to DG27 from a Froyo rom using ODIN, which is 2 updates before DI18, so yea, ODIN doesn't care what you are flashing from and to.
so can i flash dk28 through odin if i already have dk28 installed

ODIN doesn't look, know, or care what OS version is on your phone. What ODIN does is wipe out your current install and flash whatever TAR/BIN you put in there. You can flash DI18 over DK28, DG27 over DK28, whatever...
im been reading mixed results about whether or not the pit is needed to be used when using odin. does anyone know if you need it or not?
the pit isnt needed...i went from dk28 back to di18 yesterday without the pit...i just used the di18 tar in the pda section.....one thing odin kept on saying md5 was invalid but i redownloaded the same di18 tar again and it worked.....this was on the most recent version of odin.
So i upgraded my phone with the leaked froyo update.zip and everything went well except for the gps. So i followed the how to "unbrick/bring back to stock" thread so i could downgrade my phone to the di18 firmware. I used odin, the s1_odin20100512.pit and the d700.zimage.stock file. I did not want to wipe out everything, i just wanted to downgrade the kernal back to stock.
When i tried flashing on odin, it failed. now when i try turning on my i get the phone icon with the exclamation mark in the triangle. I wanted to call my girlfriend after flashing my phone but now i cant . Please help me save my phone!
EDIT: Okay not bricked, but it wont load up android

Thanks for the tip!
Your gonna want to flash the di18.tar in "pda" with odin and only reboot checked, no pit needed. That gets the di18 firmware back, and the only way.. kernel has nothing to do with it..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I am about to do this too.. and dont want to wipe the data only get back to di18 to get the gps working.. so in that case:
1. I dont need pit file at all
2. which .tar to choose? not the255 mb file?
Mine failed the first time to. I followed the directions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
I tried it a second time but used the victory pit that came with odin 1.61 and it worked. I think in the instructions their using an older version of odin.
I'm not in anyway an expert and you may not even need to use a pit like another poster said. It worked for me though. When I got done the phone rebooted and it showed it having the eclair d07 build from there it updated itself to dI18.
I believe you still need the pit file. If you are going back to stock DI18, than use this:
Stock Files
The one you were trying to use was the kernel I believe.
Here is the pit file you need:
pit file
I have flashed back to stock about 14 times and I have used these two files successfully every time.
yeah ive done it te same wasy that swanysto has done it also a lot. it always works for me to. i know some sa you don't need the pit unless just doing a kernel but i always use it. just my 2 cents
pull the SD card out before you go into download mode (not just pull it out, make sure to push down and let it pop up to remove it).
so heres the deal, ive read the forum with all the instructions how to downgrade from dk28 back to di18. i even did it on my epic a month ago because i missed my gps. on my phone it worked the first try. no problems whatsoever. so now im trying to do the same with my girlfriends phone and its refusing to work. it either stops at initializing or geting pit. ive been at this for an hour now. any ideas?
Dont use the pit file. You don't need it for flashing tar files. Just put the tar file in PDA and make sure only reboot is checked and hit start.

Have you tried the three different versions of odin out there? 1.0 1.3 and 1.6 somethin? 1.6 has the highest success rate for me. Also you don't need the pit but it shouldn't affect it's ability to complete if you do use it. Also if you're trying to odin back to di18 don't use the di18 extended, it's very finnicky. Just try the pure stock di18 files from noobnl's post in dev section.
When I use ODIN with my phone I need to make sure the PDA file doesn't have the MD5 tag at the end of the zip file. So naturally when I went to flash my gf's Samsung Mesmerize I took the tag off her tar file also. Made Odin crash repeatedly across different versions. When I finally realized I needed MD5 at the end of the file ODIN flashed the phone on the first try.
Lesson of the story is that ODIN is finnicky. Try different things like: Different USB ports, restarting computer before using it, and playing with different PIT files (don't quote me on the PIT thing, I've used different ones with no ill effects). Try changing the zip file to just .zip or .zip.md5 just to make sure it isn't something simple like that.

Pit is specific to build. It tells the phone where to flash what... Following this advice *could* have very detrimental effects .....

Hello,
Do you know where I can get a PHONE file for Vibrant T959 to use with ODIN?? Please help...
A while back, in the process of installing a 2.3.3 ROM on my Vibrant T959, I used a Galaxy 9000 PHONE file (and PIT and PDA) via ODIN. Since then, at boot, splash says i9000 then 2nd splansh says Vibrant.
Phone works ok, but there are times when it thinks phone is an i9000 not an Vibrant - like using ROM Manager and downloading recovery.
I have looked everywhere but not found a stock PHONE file for Vibrant (only found 512 PIT and PDA files).
Please email or point me to one, if you have or know where.
Much appreciated

Hi eggnoodle,
I do not see PHONE file in the package..., only the PIT and PDA files.
Will this fix the GT i9000 splash screen and other issue? Let me know..
thx
Perhaps you misunderstood, but I was not looking for the TAR and PIT files. I am looking for the PHONE file.
Thx
If you're looking for stock rom then you can find it here

hopefully someone else with more experience can chime in...as I'm a newbie myself.
Thx anyway, but I am looking for the specific PHONE file to use with ODIN...

Hi seedofchaos,
I have flashed back to stock many a time, to install ROMS, etc. but this has not restored the Vibrant initial splashscreen. This first splash only changed after I used a GT i9000 PHONE file with ODIN.
If you can direct me to a PHONE file to use with ODIN, I would appreciate it.
I have read about the aoi toolbox but it is more than I was looking for at moment. I just need the PHONE file for the Vibrant T959, please.
Flashing the Samsung Vibrant to stock firmware does not require a PHONE file to be selected in Odin.
You might have heard that for some other phone, but for this phone all that is required is a .tar file and a .pit file which has already been linked to.
Edit: Seems like you might just have to flash a vibrant kernel. Look into flashing that.

No sir, I am not trying to flash back to stock. I am not trying to flash to stock. I know how to do that with TAR and PIT, but that is not what I am trying to do.
I need the PHONE file to restore the initial boot splash and to get the phone to stop identifying as a GT i9000 in some apps, which it does. This behavior started when I used a GT i9000 PHONE file in ODIN.
Sorry for the confusion this is causing, but if anyone has it, I need a PHONE file for Vibrant T959.
thanks

We understand what you are trying to do. You want to get the old boot splash back the only way to do that is to flash a stock rom. Jfd will do the trick. Otherwise you'll need to have a custom kernel like overstock flashed through clockworkmod.
+10char
Well, I have flashed JFD twice using ODIN, but no cigar.
I did so in the process of installing a new ROM.
Is there something I am missing? Current ROM is Simply Galaxy 3 rc2 based on 2.3.3
Thanks for all help
I think you need vibrant sbl.bin/boot.bin. Look here....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756832&page=2
You can ask Jellette for bootloader.
It sounds to me like you flashed the i900 sbl and boot.bin in other words your phone has the i900 boot loader. You'll need to find the files to flash the t959 boot loader however be VERY VERY careful doing so as you have about a 50/50 chance of hard bricking your phone when doing so. The files aren't available on xda for that reason. You're only shot is finding a dev who has said files and is willing to help you out. Good luck!

Here is the modem from EF02. Extract from zip and flash with odin. I am using it on Froyo. Use either odin version.
This allows you to do a firmware upgrade to EF10 also......again, I am using it on Froyo
Edit: I have added a zip file containing the exact files that I am successfully using to flash. Download the zip, extract the files, put the pit in the pit, the modem in the pda and flash.

Has this worked for anyone yet?
I just used it(I have flashed a few times to make sure it works) . It works. Im using the old odin.
Playing with both modems now. EF02 was eh ok in my area. 4g was 5.5d 1.6 u. GPS locked faster than i've ever seen. Just pushed to EF10 and rejected it's love of looking for random updates.
Flashed back to EF02 over a thought that they're sacrificing GPS for speed or can't figure out how or why to release them in a modem together. I believe the EF02 amazing modem might be true.
Final verdict: EF02 is the ****. Instant GPS lock and 6-7mbs d/1.6 mbs u on 4g avg. I don't know what went wrong in EF10
Btw, no one got me a pit in time and now I've learned my phone clearly doesn't care.

Please help. Did I just brick my phone? Here's what I did.
Saved and extracted the pit and the modem to the desktop
Booted phone to Download mode
Opened Odin and selected the PIT in the PIT area and the Modem in the Phone slot.
Click Start.
Odin went through ok.
Phone rebooted. But never came back on.
Only at that time did I realize that the Re-Partition box was also checked.
I know... 2 mistakes. Phone slot instead of PDA and Re-Partition was checked.
Is there anything I can do? I've tried booting normally. Booting to download mode. Booting to CWM. First night of rooting and it was going so well until I started to try different modems.

Sorry. Found out a way to fix.
(Take battery out. Hold 1 + Power. Put battery back in).
Was able to reload everything back to stock.
Thought the phone was a goner. Had no signs of life at all.
