I don't really post here much but this problem has me baffled beyond belief and I have yet to find a solution even after googling and trying their suggestions. Maybe I am not looking in the right places and someone could assist me.
The error I get is when I try to pull up my contacts, I immediately get the following message.
"android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. - Force close"
I have never had this problem (rooted or unrooted) until I flashed SuperClean 2.4. I flashed it and everything was OK for a few days. I couldn't fix it, so I reflashed SuperClean 2.4 he next day (which was this past Saturday) and the error happened today. As of right now, I am stock except for the EB01 Baseband.
Along with SuperClean, I did install LauncherPro, Facebook, Androzip and some games.
ANY help will be appreciated. Thank you!!!
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and find the Contacts program. Then clear data and try to open it again. Just be warned though that clearing the contacts data may remove any contacts stored on the phone (shouldn't touch your Gmail contacts).
Thanks for the reply.
I assume you mean "Contacts Storage"? I've tried that and it still gave me the message with Force Close.

For some odd reason, the rotation on my phone has stopped. It doesnt rotate in chomp, steel, it doesn't even rotate when i flip it up. I have droidsans, and it didn't work - before or after the update. I downloaded the new version of droidsans for the RC33 update, and it still doesn't work. I'm using the JF version of RC33 for an OS now, but it didn't work when i was using the JF version of RC30 either.
Also, everytime i try to add/edit a contact it gives me a pop-up stating "The process android.process.ascore had stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Then it forces close. I have no idea what is wrong with this. When I try to edit a contact, it gives me the same message - but after a couple of times, it changes (but the error pop-up remains to come up)
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me with these problems. Thank you in advance
try a wipeout and then install rc33..mayb it ll work..!!
i'm glad to say that that worked...for my rotation. my contacts are still screwed. i still can't add new contacts
i'd suggest wiping, and then reflashing the last firmware that worked correctly. once that is all working fine, wipe again, and try RC33. or, try the ADP firmware and see if that is any different.
I have the original Tmobile mytouch. Recently I thought of rooting it. I used universalandroot and rooted the phone. I then though of removing some stock apps which are not used by me. I used titanium app to remove amazon, IM and IMprovider. I was not aware that removal of the last 2 IM related apps causes issues. The mistake I did was I did not even back up these before uninstalling. After removing these I started getting messages which said com.android.process.gapps stopped unexpectedly. This happened each time I tried accessing gmail or any other google app and also while accessing market. I google the problem an read that this can be resolved by going to settings - applications and clearing data from each google related app and then ensuring sync is disabled and then late reenabling the sync. After I tried this, I was able to access gmail but gtalk and contacts still could not be accessed withthe same error. I therefore thought of doing a factoryreset which might bring the original apps back. I did a factory reset and cache wipe from android stock reboot options but when I rebooted the first message I got upon reboot is "com.android.process.gapps stopped unexpectedly". I tried to sign in into my google account to use the phone but am pretty sure the the factory reset has not resolved my problem. I am currently unable to sign in to the phone using the intial google account set up wizard. Everytime I press finish in the wizard, I get "The application Setup Wizard (process com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". Does this mean my phone has been rendered useles???
Can some expert help me resolve this issue? I am a noob and have committed mistakes and need some help fixing them. The phone current has donut android 1.6 on it.
Thanks in advance for your valuable help and time.
Update - Solved
I have resolved the problem. I flashed the phone with sappimg.nbh which took the phone back to the initial state (android 1.5) and this causes the rooting to be undone and also reinstalls the google apps. i dont see the failures due to gapps not found anymore and all is well.
My Vibrant is having some serious issues. I've only found one other person that seems to have my issues and that thread went out of control so I'm starting another.
Symptom:
Within 5ish (if that) minutes of a factory reset, the market will get stuck on Starting Download... for any application. Nothing fixes it. I can download 10ish applications but that's all.
Attempted Fixes:
Factory Reset
Various ROMs via Odin
Flash JFD ROM with "repartition" option selected, then flash another ROM over that without repartition
Factory Reset and different Gmail account to set up the phone
"Easy Fixes" like logging in to GTalk, resetting Market cache, switching networks and over to wifi in any combination and every other suggestion that doesn't work.
Notes:
Everything was working fine until that OTA update came in and I opted to install it without checking online to see if there were any issues. Of course, the update froze halfway through and I used Odin to install JI6, then all these issues started.
This is my first phone and it used to work perfectly well in any number of locations around where I live. Now it doesn't work anywhere.
I periodically get spammed with a lot of application downloads that I didn't initiate and they all turn up unsuccessful (since the problems started).
I tried using the Appbrain quick web installer feature which may or may not have caused the problem.
I am currently using Bionix 1.8 with VOODOO.
My wife's phone has the same set up and works. I tried her Gmail account on mine after a factory reset and I had the same issues.
Any suggestions?
When you flashed JI6 did you use the pit file?
are you restoring any backups after you flash?
I posted this in another thread. Someone did this with success and it worked for me too. The key thing "AND Uninstall updated"
I have managed to sort this now - here's what I did:
Go into settings - applications - manage applications- scroll down to market & long touch to open. Clear cache AND Uninstall updated. It will ask for confirmation and then uninstall. I then went back to market and Bluetooth file transfer downloaded and installed with no probs. Hope this helps anyone else with same problem.

Also have you ran a "Fix permissions" from RomManager? It seems to help with a lot of these strange errors ....
Sorry for not responding... work is keeping me busy.
Anyway, when I go Manage Applications, select Filter~>All and go down to Market there is nothing to do with Uninstall. I tried long clicking and that did nothing. When I click on Market, the only buttons are Clear Cache, Clear Defaults, and Force Stop. Am I missing something?
To answer other questions, both the JI6 and JFD .tar files I used (found on xda) came with their own .pit files and I did use the respective .pit files when flashing. After the flash, all I do is install Appbrain and start loading my applications again (no other restoration methods). I've run fix_permissions and that didn't help when I ran it though I've only done it once or twice in the whole process.
Note - I have Market 1714.
Cleared the download manager cache?
+1 on Fix Permissions in ROM Manager. This has fixed many market issues.
The TMo Android customer service folk had me try clearing the Download Manager's cache (and I tried again just for laughs) with no results. Tried fix permissions again with no luck. My replacement (refurbished? from TMo) should show up today.
Got the new phone (with JI6 on it and the new market that keeps applications up-to-date), flashed Bionix Fusion 1.1 and things look to be working pretty well. My signal is noticeably better than it was before (it used to be good then got worse for some reason so I guess it's back to what it used to be).
I paid $10 for 7-10 business day shipping or something like that but I got a text about it shipping on the 25th and it got here today (after being back-ordered) so I'm relatively satisfied. Sure would like to know what's wrong with the other phone and how to fix it if need be in the future but I'll just avoid accepting any OTA updates in the future.
So, this morning, I got a notification that my phone had failed to log into Google Talk, which I never even use. In addition, my Gmail application completely stopped working. It wouldn't send or receive emails, even when trying to manually refresh. Any ideas? SRF 1.2, EC05, Genocide 2.0.
Thanks!

Try booting into CWM and repair permissions. Seems to have helped a lot of people with google apps crashing and force closing.
...
I had actually created a backup in CWM about 10 minutes prior to messing with the UV settings in SetCPU, which is what seemed to cause the problem with Google. I restored that backup and everything is back to normal. Could some corruption have happened during the crashes as I was setting the undervolts?
Thanks,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I've looked everywhere for an answer and i cannot find one,
I have a rooted Nexus 4 with Franco Kernel and Xylon ROM on giffgaff
Whenever i receive a call i cannot answer it because this message shows up and i have to click 'OK' which hangs up, also at the end of outbound calls it shows this message.
This message only occurs when i call/ get called.
I have tried clearing the data from 'Phone' with no avail, also updated my ROM and Kernel. I have reset my Mobile Networks/Access Point Names to default but still this problem occurs. I will be grateful if anyone help and fixes this, Thanks
Hi, I had this problem too and searching around I found a solution that fixed this problem twice for me:
Go to settings -> applications -> all and go to Phone. Clear data & clear cache. Do the same thing with Phone/Messaging Storage apk. You will loose your contacts but it fixed it.
I have my phone contacts sync with my google account so in 10 secs my address book was back and no more "process" problem.
Apparently some kind of corrupted contact causes this, so every time the phone tries to access your contacts and match the phone number, the process crashes.
I hope this helps.
Best,
Ive cleared the Phone data but Phone/Messaging Storage is all blanked out so i cannot click on it? :/ Any ideas?

Were you able to clear your address book? In the end it seems that is what fixes it. Try to delete all your contacts and reboot. Than you can tell if it helps. As far as I know, the next option is to factory reset. That's what I did the first time I got the error, but later it came back because of some bad contact. And if you do that test it by calling yourself from another phone before adding contacts.

I have cleared all my contacts manually and rebooted the phone but still it comes up with the message, Im thinking that i need to clear the data from Phone/Message Storage but i probably clicked force stop on it before and i need to 'Start' it again.
I would just factory reset and flash the rom again.
Honestly i havent got a clue what happened but i did a factory reset and my custom Kernel and ROM were still there and i tried calling myself and it fixed it, somehow :/ Thanks guys

Redownload and reflash the ROM including Gapps, if it still doesn't work then try a different ROM. Make sure you re-download the ROM though, since you may be getting this error due to corruption that occurred when it was downloaded.
Edit:
Oh you fixed it. Never mind.
There's a chance my error started because I flashed the. 33 radio after the ROM and gapps. The correct way is first the radio, than RoM, than gapps. I don't know if that's your case, but be aware of that.
have this occasionally on cm10.1 flashing different nightlies.

This problem is mainly caused by corrupt or incompatible APN predefined settings. Try clearing all of them and just using the one you need.
To speed up the process, navigate closing the error as many times as required to the apn list, and once in the list, toggle airplane mode ON, that will stop the force close to show up, now delete all the entries, and toggle off airplane mode.

First thank you for the fast response.
I have just updating my rom (from cm 10 to cm 10.1) and when the system starts after the end of booting the error appears.
I have activated the airplane mode and no changes the error is continuing and when I go to settings --> the press on more in networks it says: "unfortunately the process com.android.settings has stopped".

Then it's one app that you got installed. Try removing any non essential apps.
