Galaxy 4g internet is much faster than Vibrant - Vibrant General

I just ran three side by side tests with my new Galaxy 4g and my old Vibrant (running Bionix 1.2.1 at 1.4ghz) and the 4G ran 5-6mb/s compared to my Vibrant running 2-3mb/s. Definatley brought a to my face! GPS is dead on out of the box too. 9 of 12 satelites locked in about 5 seconds which is where my Vibrant ended up after the latest ROM's.

In response to the AT&T comment...if I go in town I can get 10+mb/s. I was just commenting on how much faster the 4G model is with the same signal strength...MSNBC found the same type of results for those interested http://phandroid.com/2011/02/10/4g-speed-tests-show-samsung-galaxy-s-4g-as-winner/ . I can't wait untill Tmobile doubles their 4G speed again this year! Most Tmobile devices will bennefit while the 4g specific devices will be faster than my home comcast Xfinity...wow, and I thought that was fast!

yea I live in a 4g area and get around 5 or 6 at my house on my 3g. this makes me want to sell my vibrant on ebay for as much as I can and get one of these bad boys gahhhhhh

its not THAT much faster, I get a constant 4.5 mb/s with mine and a friend gets anout 5.5 mb/s in his G2

i get 5-6Mb here...... on my lowly Vibrant,,

Same here, those are low numbers for the 4G! Not sure what he's so happy about! Lol!

Hello... to answer your question no it does not drift at all.... in maps i have a consistent 5m accuracy with 5 second cold start locks. the GPS status app shows 11 sats in view and locks 9 with 40 feet accuracy (in my house), it performs better outside in maps so i will test GPSstatus again tomorrow (outside) and reply again.

I wish I could get to Hawaii faster, 2 days in ideal conditions.

Connection speed is usually measured by bps (or kbps or Mbps), means baud (bit) per second.
Other than bps, latency is also important (more responsive). T-Mobile wins on this part (less than 100ms) even with regular HSPA devices.

Haha, funny dude!

The only reason for your 4g to be faster when the phones are on the same data net are the ROM's, or to be more specific: the modems installed with the specific rom. Unless they both have comparable modems and the 4g is actually in the 4g range of the network, then it will be true win for the 4g.

3g speeds

I seem to be getting .6mbs up and down no matter where I am, and even worse with my wireless tether for root users if running speed test on my laptop. Is this normal? I work for Verizon, and realize speed depends on coverage. But like I said, these are very consistent results. It just seems like these numbers are super low

Most roms have the so-called "throttle" already patched out (I don't believe we know this is actually what Verizon uses). I'd be surprised if MIUI didn't also remove it.
It's the fascinate. It kinda suck with 3G compared with Motorola Droid. I have both and compared them in the same location. Motorola Droid performed better in all my test

Verizon throttles on the backend, so if you're being throttle, there is nothing you can do about it. Odds are, you are just in a high use area, are actually on 1x, or have a worse signal than you think.

.6 down and up is not bad. I just got 300-600 kbs in doors with 1 bar. Verizon's network is slow but stable, anyone know the Max download speed for cdma rev a? I think this throttle hack is useless if they are throttling their towers to a Max speed.
Just did a retest when I had 2 bars and I got. .9 mbs which isn't bad, rev a can only peak at 1.4 I found out.

The maximum download speed of EV-DO Rev. A is not 1.4Mbps, but 3.1. Verizon advertises average download speeds of 600Kbps to 1.4 Mbps, but some people commonly get more than that.

I feel it necessary to remind everyone that these same bandwidth speeds were seen with Wimax on Sprint with people's Evos as soon as it was released.
But we can't use facts and past knowledge in this forum.
I like Sprint....their 4G network is a crock. T-Mobile is faster most the time on 3G.
As much as I'm sold on Evo 3D....amazingly (to me) its balanced pretty evenly against this patchy unreliable network. (And I'd pay more in a heartbeat for the best combination of network and Device). Right now Sprint's been resting on their original 4G hype/bust...and there far back in the race.
Here's hoping they knew that ages ago and are ready for significant upgrades.

Verizon's 3g is faster than Sprint 4g WiMax. Therefore;
Verizon's 4g LTE is much faster than Sprints 4g WiMax.
The Thunderbolt is dominating the Evo, I've seen a screenshot of a 1.8 ghz oc of the Thunderbolt scoring 3k on quadrant.
Yes, the Evo 3D is the best phone on the face of the Earth hardware-wise so far, but once Verizon gets enough people on they're LTE they're gonna be releasing they're own HTC Pyramid. Besides, personal experience, I'm not happy with my Sprint Service. At all.

Internation Note and AT&T: speed comparisions

I'm looking at buying a galaxy note, but the international Galaxy Note is really the one I want. Unfortunately, I need data speeds. Not the 40mbps of LTE, but I need more than my 1.4/0.9 mpbs that I get now on my Samsung Captivate. What speeds do you guys get on your notes? What did you get on your non-HSPA+ devices? I think this GNote is HSPA+. My results from Speedtest in Atlanta, GA...(see below/attached).
I wondered the same before so scoured around a bunch and saw that ATT speeds can vary between 1mpbs - 7mpbs down, and .5-1.5mbps up depending on various factors.
It really depends on where you are. Most importantly, how many other AT&T customers share the same tower as you. Typically, in a big crowded metropolitan area, speeds are lower. My HSPA+ speed rarely exceeds 1mbps. Often in low 100kbps range.
That's why if you want speed, LTE is the only way to go. Even without counting on future proof, the fact that very few ppl are using the separate LTE network (no, it doesn't share the same network as HSPA+) at this time.

Well, I had 6.7 down and 3.1 up; i guess it really depends on the career and the server u make the test. And also about how busy is the closest relay and how busy is it...there are many variables here.

I know but what I want to know is if it's possible to get more than 10mbits or if it's just not possible.
@prking07
Thanks, that is good to know.
By the way, do you guys know if there is any real world noticeable difference between browsing at 10mbits in hspa+ and 50mbits LTE?
I also want to know that, so i can't hardly wait to get 4G in my country soon

With mine i get often 10mbits down and 2.5 up
I would love to get some more speed, but I'm uncertain if it's a limitation of the phone or a cap of the service provider.
Perhaps someone can shed some light on the radio in the I9300 and what it's capable of.

S3 i9300 is capable of 21.6 Mbps
But most people will never reach that speed as it depends on carrier/relay/...
i got 19.11mbs the other day!
average i get 14/15
lowest is around 2mbs

No speed difference but for downloads/4k ultra high definition video etc I would suspect.
Not sure if 'latency' is improved or not (doubt it) Like ADSL1 has a lower latency than ADSL2. I suspect it's in a similar situation, damn physics...

Really?! I thought 21mbits was merely theoretical and that no one was capable of getting more than15mbits or something like that.
It was with the i9300 international version?

yep, gti 9300 s3. my area has amazing hspa+ speeds but at that speed, you burn through data like a rocket.
mine is never more than 4Mb/s
I only get around 1.4mbps H+ download on Orange UK in my area. Absolutely rubbish. Maximum I have seen is about 2.5mpbs

Screenshot or it never happened...
On HSPA+ my top score was just over 10Mbps in London.... My mate is on Vodafone and never got even close to 10Mbps so I don't believe you..
Now I'm using Three on DC-HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps) and best so far was over 18Mbps.... (screenshot)
I've seen ppl getting up to 20Mbps on Three DC... but never as fast on normal HSPA+...

On the 3 UK network, I normally get 6-7Mbs downloads and occassionally I get up to 13Mbs.

6.91 mbit/s down, 3 mbit/s up.
what would be the benefits of having download rate of 3mbps or higher on a mobile phone? other than to tether. if latency was low like LAN internet i would never subscribe to LAN type internet.
sent.
