So with rumours of streak 2 floating around, have you had a good enough experience to get the second incarnation?
I think I would buy the streak 2 so long as its the only 5" phone. Im sure they will address some of the build issues and if they could refine the form ever so slightly and improve the rear speaker it could be perfect.
Its worth addidng this was my first android phone and I found the streak a great platform for the android os, I would only consider an android phone next time.

I feel the same way. I went from an N97 to a htc hero, which hooked me on Androids openness, and now with the Streak, im hooked on the 5 inch screen. I had a play with a friends desire(sounds bad lol) yesterday, and its just ....SO small. I dont think I could comfortably go back to such a small screen.
I would definitely buy the streak 2, with the improvements youve mentioned. My only hope, and this is nothing against Steve(I think 1.7 is fab), is that I hope that there would be one or two more rom devs for it.
The only other thing that vaguely interests me is the samsung Tab, but the fact that its Samsung puts me off. Lack of official updates, etc.
needs 4g
much better cameras
working video chat program
better battery cover door
kickstand
a touchwiz feature of having extended controls in the notification area to easily disable wifi, bluetooth, etc
separate video chip.
Agree with all the above statements...would gladly buy this form factor again but if htc made one it would be hard to pass up and I would probably say bye to dell

Yup...yup...yup
Best phone I've ever owned. I'm not saying it's perfect but it is the best. I want a 7" screen with 3G phone function, without having to hack it. As long as this is the largest screen I can get with a phone, I will keep buying them. It's well worth the money.
I'll buy the streak 2 if it has..
A simple LED notification light would be awesome...
microUSB instead of PDMI would be nice (but probably will loose HDMI out? I don't use that anyways)
Better front camera (something that works better with low light scenarios as I go out at night a lot )
Yeah everything mentioned here are much needed improvements. Ill be in the o2 shop the day the streak 2 is out, but ill give it more of an inspection before I make the purchase.

Support their product much more...
Streak - Worst advertised and promoted.
yes, I think I want another tabletphone about 6-7", has to have better resolution, maybe 1080, better FFC, dual core, and more than 512MB RAM.
if streak 5 ver.2 is anywhere close to this, I will def. consider it, but might wait for a tab2 with phone support hack.
the 5 seems to be getting smaller everday but overall happy with it
4.25 stars from me....

I dont understand why I camt just videocall straight from the dialer like I could with my last 4 phones. Whats the point in removing an already established feature? Is this an amdroid flaw?

I would if the streak 2 had a dual core processor and they where able to cut the size a lil but keep the five inch screen oh and android 3.0 and better camera.... but all in all I think dell did an ok job on this first streak except for the fact that it came with 1.6
I've got my streak a week ago and I will feel bad if there will be new version . Lol.

OoVoo works so much better and u dont have to deal with reregistering.
Mobile2mobile and mobile2pc. Front camera support. And make voice calls over data. Free is th best part.
I would love a streak 2 with a dualcore tegra, higher res screen and dell to learn to make builds that dont suck. This is by far the absolute best phone i have owned and i have had a lot of them. 3 in the last month. X10 (sony os support is terrible) Hd7 (great but needs some updates) and then this streak. Everyones jaw drops when they see it!

Hey Guys-
Picked up my Atrix yesterday (coming FROM A Galaxy S) ... noticed some battery drainage right off the bat...
anyways, wanted to get feedback from the community. Should I keep this phone (reliability) or am I better off trading it back for a streak?
Thank you!
Alex
u are going to get bias opinion on an Atrix forum
Definetly do not go to the streak. I actually returned the streak for the atrix. Even paid and extra 100 bucks. Although I loved the form factor, and it was pretty fast. It is extremly fragile, broke twice in a month once just by walking with it in my pocket in a otterbox! It has much worse battery life, and dell ****in sucks. The only thing I really miss is the screen, but the atrix is definitely a better phone. (I just hope the bootloader will get unlocked because the steak has a pretty good streakdroid rom)
*Not biased I really wanted to keep the streak.
Sent from my Atrix.
Heres a quick comparison...
http://www.esato.com/phones/compare.php?phone=719&cp=759
I'd go atrix despite the problems. It's newer, better hardware, higher resolution, better camera etc etc..
Also, we ended up with about 60 streaks at my company. Within a few months of distribution we started hearing about cracked screens (LCD+Glass) So evidently they can be a bit delicate

I had no idea that Moto was still boot locking their devices... ! WTF!!
I gotta do some research now... It was a toss up between this phone or the inspire or streak... I think I have my question answered now between the streak...but now this locked boot loader kind of has me frazzled.
Thank you!
I had the dell streak and it was great. But at time its to big. Trying to text was a pain. Went to the atrix everything is good but the speeds suck. I was getting better speeds with the dell streak. I really hope Att does fix it quick or else I'm jumping ship.

As a follow up to this i ended up with a Dell Streak through work and have bleeding/cracked lcd in 1 corner within 5 hrs of taking it out of the box. No drops, no mashing on it, nothing...

IF you need a phone, Id say go with Atrix, Streak is just too big for the phone. Also it is older hardware.
Returned my Streak for an Atrix.
The phone may not be too great right now but..... The updates coming soon will full unleash what It can do.
If I were you, Its personal preference.
The speed is GREAT on the Atrix. Change your launcher and I've heard the update helps too. I'm using SPB 3D launcher and the performance is amazing even with 5+ apps open.
Battery life is great on the Atrix. Resolution is higher than the Streak (or Captivate which I was used to). The extra resolution is quite useful for web browsing, etc. The locked bootloader is a bummer but there are already quasi-ROM's out there that take care of the important issues, WiFi hotspot, Themes, bloatware, etc.
All you are losing is the bigger screen, which I must say I would prefer, but you get a LOT for the trade-off.
Just got an update today that claimed to fix battery issues on the atrix. So that may not be an issue

I would see how Dell does in the Android market before i take the plunge. They have no track record, and are notorious for dropping complete product lines on a whim.
Not sour grapes, I have had good luck with servers and worstations - and I used to work there. But they need to prove to me they can make a phone and can support it before i even look at one.

So what system version & build # do you have now?
I had both phones. I came from a Streak to this. My brother owned the Streak, bought it in August.. i used it until i bought the Atrix and I have had the Atrix for about a month.
The Streak was nice. The Froyo update made it worthwhile. It is definitely not for everybody.
I had good battery life. Lasted me a full day no problems(captivate couldn't do nearly as good as the streak or atrix for me)
Streak is alot closer to Stock Android out of the box. Has a little bit of development going for it, but who knows if that will continue.
Bootloader isn't locked lol.
I really liked the Streak. Hated to see it go honestly.
My upgrade came up and I decided to grab an Atrix, my brother wanted me to sell the Streak for him.. they really are not comparable directly, but the atrix is going to get carrier supported updates for a while longer while the Streak will get killed off and not supported soon.

Atrix all the way
Can anyone recommend a worthy successor to this awesome phone? I'm going to miss it's big screen.
Dell really didn't market this phone the way they should have.
I think everyone is missing the boat.
A phone this size with a smooth fast ROM with the latest Android OS would sell like hot cakes.
This phone is the reason I hardly use my iPad. Dell nailed it with the size.
I'm a Dell Streak 5 user too and I agree with you that Dell should invest on advertisements and support for Streak.
As a replacement , most of the new high-end coming devices ( HTC Sensation , Samsung Galaxy S2 , ...etc ) are 4.3 inch screens. they should do a good job
I am waiting for the 4.5-inch HTC Holiday.

I like TOTALLY feel your pain.... If my Streak ever breaks, I'll be forced into "pocket-tablet rehab" LOL... As you know, other devices look SO small now... even the HTC Sensation, which I had very high hopes for, is significantly more narrow (screen size), than an HD2 or Evo.... To me, it's basically a narrow strip of glass.... Same goes for the Acer Iconia..... it has something like a 21:9 aspect ratio, meaning it's an even longer "strip of glass" than even the Sensation. I did read that Samsung is coming out with a "Q" model, that's supposedly 5.3" (bigger than our Streaks even)..... Unfortunately, it will probably have worse LCD-fracturing problems because it's surrounding frame will constitute the most lightweight/cheap plastic available.... I think I'll need Streak methadone to get mine out of my hands :-o...... Good luck, and tell us what you end up with
Ill wait and see what dell comes out with next. I'm in no rush for a new device. This streak is keeping me very satisfied!
Can't go to a smaller screen. The Q with the folding display looks like an intriguing device.

Michael Dell OWNS MY SOUL, because, I cannot kick this habit! This monkey on my back called the Dell Streak has is the BEST phone ive ever owned. I was considering an alternative to my streak, until I figured out what was causing the FC's & lag. Once I uninstalled launcher pro, and installed go launcher, geez, my streak flies now. I think I'll skip an upgrade this fall, unless something in a 5" range is released and has no hiccups.
Lol, Hilderbrandt, its TRUE

Hey I just read a couple of positive (sort of), reviews on the Viewsonic ViewPad 7.... I see the price for one is down to $299 at CompUSA...... But I don't think anything bigger than 5" will classify as phone too. They would simply be tablets.

Sad for a Streak 5 owner, like me.
Such a shame the device was poorly marketed, people I know who have seen mine, 50% say its too big, but the other 50% say they would love a larger screen but just hadnt heard about the streak. Shame on dells marketing department.

what a shame, i own this device for over 3 months and i'm more than glad to own it...
but let's look on the bright side, not too many people will have such a great smartphone...and a big one too
I've still got mine, coming up on a year old (where does the time go?)
Came with 1.6, which was better than the previous windows mobile device I had
out of the box, 1.6 was better, I didn't have to change a crap load of settings like I did with WM to get it to function. I waited on 2.2 until December, being a noob on android, I didn't want to brick it. Now that I'm a little more familiar with android, I've customized mine to my liking, and 2.2.2 is rock stable.
Since this is a 75% work 25% personal device, I've held off on 2.3x for now.
It's a shame that Dell has no clue what a little gem they have on their hands.
They've killed it because the bean counters only look at how many they sold, and not the lack of promotion.
When time comes to get a newer device, I'll have to give a serious look before I get another 5" dell, if they even have one, and that's a shame. Over the past 10+ years, I've owned nothing but Dell laptops, and have had excellent results, and only a time or two, had to have them repaired, but Dell dropped the ball on the Streak.
I just read it a couple of minutes ago. Its such a shame. I hope they do release the drivers now, so devs can port Gingerbread/IceCream to it. Oh wait. It's Dell. Ah crap, there won't be ANY drivers.
So sad to see it go. Also looks like there will be no replacement for it either. While my Dell Streak has always had its share of quirks I've never liked a phone more. Most people who saw my phone had never heard of it. Even a few people who work in the AT&T store didn't know what it was. I'm also running 2.2.2 right now and it is really stable and very nice IMO.
That being said, I have had my share of issues. Both of the batteries that I've gotten from Dell had to be replaced and the third one in my phone is beginning to show signs of being either bad or getting there (not sure how that works as I only have Dell chargers for the phone). The phone tends to over heat when running GPS and anything else ie. I get a call or play music in the car. Despite my best efforts to keep it nice, the paint is chipping off of the battery cover and the Dell logo has completely come off.
After all of that I still love this phone and will be very sad when I do have to trade it in. Though I won't miss carrying around a charger in my pocket .
My conclusion is that this phone's failure was pretty much 100% Dell's fault. If they had just gotten the freakin' thing into an AT&T store instead of only selling it online and in BestBuy this wouldn't be happening right now.
lol XD

Honeycomb not good for streak
Honeycomb was designed for tablets with hires screens without hardware home/menu/back buttons. The streak is not really a tablet but a phone with a big screen. I'd hate to lose the use of the hardware buttons and have to use on screen buttons in honeycomb.
Hell, a lot of android apps don't run well in honeycomb and need different versions.
The streak doesn't really benefit from running honeycomb.
I agree that if you are using the streak as a phone first device then yes HC does not sound practical. but once the streak has run its course for any cunsumer, which is soon, for me. I would love to turn this bad boy into a HC mini-tablet.

Not to pile on here, but I have to agree. I literally just picked up a Galaxy SII and the only redeeming quality of the Streak is the screen size advantage.
The Streak is a great device, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the Galaxy SII at this point in time. I loved my short stint with the Streak, really. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I want to share my experience.
My main complaints:
The speed. It actually feels slower than I ever imagined by comparison, but that's not a knock, really. After all, it's an older device
But....
The sound quality is absolutely abhorrent in comparison to the Galaxy SII or any other smartphone I've ever used, including the HD2, Vibrant, several Nokia devices, etc.
There is a constant and definitely audible signal noise in the Streak that really bugged me. As a recording engineer, I can definitely hear the difference between the audio systems on the two devices. When the playback system kicks in, you can literally hear the hiss in the background. When the playback stops, the hiss vanishes. Upon further investigation, it seems that this is a known issue that found its way into several reviews. If I hadn't heard it for myself, I'd have not believed how terrible it actually sounded, and frankly, it's SO bad that I find it inexcusable on such a high-end device.
I sold my iPod and bought a larger MicroSD to use my phone as my main portable media device, and the Streak really let me down.
I was able to sell it to a friend, since my boss agreed to subsidize my upgrade cost by 50%, so I came out about $100 ahead. I couldn't pass that up.
In my area at least, the Galaxy SII has a waiting list with at least 200 people's names on it.
Again, I don't want to sound ungrateful, because I liked a lot of aspects of the Streak, as it is a groundbreaking device in its class, but the killer was the audio system. It's really painfully bad.
I'm not sure if it was just MY device and those of the reviewers in isolation, but I doubt it. Maybe others just don't pay attention to it, but for me the hiss was disturbing.
I just got a new job and was issued a Dell Venue Pro with windows phone 7 on it.... started plugging around with that and it is now my primary phone. Can't believe how fluid it is and all the integration with mango. Using my streak primarily as a gps for the car now... :-(
just about had it with the streak being slow, clunky.. I don't blame Dell, I blame Android. After a few days with WM7... I can see that Android is not ready for prime time... it might be after whatever comes out after ice cream sandwich..
like usual though the camera is subpar on the dvp, just like the streak.
if google came out with navigation for wm7, it would be ditched already.
I never own a venue pro.must be good.do you think it's too thick or too heavy?

This is sad! You 2 guys are like celebrities in the Streak world...
I still love mine, but have not tried any newer phones. May have to look into the SGS II, as I don't see the Note being a viable alternative for the near future in the US.
Krad, what do you like about Winmo 7? I have had nothing but Windows phones since smart phones were invented (Streak is my first Android), but I heard Winmo 7 was just kind of a simplified (although pretty) UI. Is there lots of development?
I am positive that Android is the wave of the (foreseeable) future, and have really enjoyed it.
