So with rumours of streak 2 floating around, have you had a good enough experience to get the second incarnation?
I think I would buy the streak 2 so long as its the only 5" phone. Im sure they will address some of the build issues and if they could refine the form ever so slightly and improve the rear speaker it could be perfect.
Its worth addidng this was my first android phone and I found the streak a great platform for the android os, I would only consider an android phone next time.

I feel the same way. I went from an N97 to a htc hero, which hooked me on Androids openness, and now with the Streak, im hooked on the 5 inch screen. I had a play with a friends desire(sounds bad lol) yesterday, and its just ....SO small. I dont think I could comfortably go back to such a small screen.
I would definitely buy the streak 2, with the improvements youve mentioned. My only hope, and this is nothing against Steve(I think 1.7 is fab), is that I hope that there would be one or two more rom devs for it.
The only other thing that vaguely interests me is the samsung Tab, but the fact that its Samsung puts me off. Lack of official updates, etc.
needs 4g
much better cameras
working video chat program
better battery cover door
kickstand
a touchwiz feature of having extended controls in the notification area to easily disable wifi, bluetooth, etc
separate video chip.
Agree with all the above statements...would gladly buy this form factor again but if htc made one it would be hard to pass up and I would probably say bye to dell

Yup...yup...yup
Best phone I've ever owned. I'm not saying it's perfect but it is the best. I want a 7" screen with 3G phone function, without having to hack it. As long as this is the largest screen I can get with a phone, I will keep buying them. It's well worth the money.
I'll buy the streak 2 if it has..
A simple LED notification light would be awesome...
microUSB instead of PDMI would be nice (but probably will loose HDMI out? I don't use that anyways)
Better front camera (something that works better with low light scenarios as I go out at night a lot )
Yeah everything mentioned here are much needed improvements. Ill be in the o2 shop the day the streak 2 is out, but ill give it more of an inspection before I make the purchase.

Support their product much more...
Streak - Worst advertised and promoted.
yes, I think I want another tabletphone about 6-7", has to have better resolution, maybe 1080, better FFC, dual core, and more than 512MB RAM.
if streak 5 ver.2 is anywhere close to this, I will def. consider it, but might wait for a tab2 with phone support hack.
the 5 seems to be getting smaller everday but overall happy with it
4.25 stars from me....

I dont understand why I camt just videocall straight from the dialer like I could with my last 4 phones. Whats the point in removing an already established feature? Is this an amdroid flaw?

I would if the streak 2 had a dual core processor and they where able to cut the size a lil but keep the five inch screen oh and android 3.0 and better camera.... but all in all I think dell did an ok job on this first streak except for the fact that it came with 1.6
I've got my streak a week ago and I will feel bad if there will be new version . Lol.

OoVoo works so much better and u dont have to deal with reregistering.
Mobile2mobile and mobile2pc. Front camera support. And make voice calls over data. Free is th best part.
I would love a streak 2 with a dualcore tegra, higher res screen and dell to learn to make builds that dont suck. This is by far the absolute best phone i have owned and i have had a lot of them. 3 in the last month. X10 (sony os support is terrible) Hd7 (great but needs some updates) and then this streak. Everyones jaw drops when they see it!

How good is the dell streak in comparison to the x10. From what i saw in youtube and various reviews, it's look and sound like a great device with MT and very fast plus 5in screen.

But its still a five inch tablet... a five inch phone in your pocket?

@jonevan - Hi.. It was always marketed as a tablet, but recently they've removed virtually all reference to that as I think they (Dell) have realised that it's probably too small to be considered a proper tablet..
But unfortunately, it's also too big to be considered as a smartphone.. it's sitting in some kind of nowhere land middle ground..
Compare the dimensions..
X10 - 119.0 x 63.0 x 13.0 mm
Streak - 152.9 x 79.1 x 9.98 mm
The streak is 34mm longer and 16mm wider (3mm thinner).. Just feels too big to be a phone to me.. but maybe you've got big hands?!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT BY A STREAK,
I fix upwards of 7 a week, we didnt even sell 7 a week!!! They are riddled with Bugs, if you are in the UK chances are you will buy it on O2, ask the staff in the store about if there are any issues with the 2.1 update and it loosing features that just no longer work, Of also ask them about the charger port, Or the PC Suit, And thats just to start. Honestly Stear clear of the Streak its crap.
It is to big for me, so there is nothing to compare.

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a while.. Imagine holding up a 7 inch slab next to your face (with both hands obviously) Lets face it, when it comes to design, Samsung(atleast with their phones/tablets) lead the way in epic fails

Hi folks,
I have a month left on my contract and looking at the streak or the DHD and it would be great if you guys who have the streak can leave your thoughts on why you chose it and what you like about it. The 'issue' I have at the moment is the way of charging it, not by USB. Ok its a small issue but I tend to have a charger connection at work and home just in case so would need to purchase another one (more expense lol)
The other thing is development as there only seems to be the one custom rom for it (please tell me if I am wrong).
So, benefits, nice massive screen is always good (coming from a Hero) and from what I have read its quite nippy too (has it the newer snapdragon or the older one?)
It either this or the DHD
Do a search mate there are lots of threads on people asking the same question and as far as development only Steve is doing it right now and he does a dam good job, one of the problems with development is Dell have not released the Source code until they do Steve can only do so much but he has done a lot better than dell.

Yeh I did a search but nowt. So, Dell are not releasing the source code? I thought this was against Googles rules?
I like HTC because theyre pretty good with updates and support and what not. What I don't like about their products is that theyre all nearly identical. As soon as they release a "ground breaking" product, they release another one that slightly tops it a month later.
I like the streak because theres no hardware (the screen) out there like it. Pair that with front cam, snapdragon, nice battery, and you have specs that rival the top of the game. Although the 1.6 os (for AT&T) is a joke, and theres only streakdroid as a custom rom, I find the streak community very supportive.
Streak is the best! Its only gonna get better as development increases. Get one, you should be able to return it within a month if you don't like it. Once you get used to the size, you can't go back. I never use my netbook anymore...
How many times in a day do you streak owners hear "Wow! Is that your phone!? Can i see it?"

Lemme summerize what ppl have been sayiing and how I feel about the streak. Amazing phone, obivously biggest advantage is the big screen, and trust me when I tell u this, when you go soooo big u won't be able to go back to 3.7 inches.
The biggest problem with the phone, the camera. If you are a camera person, do not get this phone. this is not to say the camera is crap, but its pretty bad for 5mp.
People have been telling me that they drop their phone and it wasn't a high drop and the screen broke, I drop my phone really hard on the bare ground from 4 feet high and nothing happened (alittle scartch on the back, nothing on the screen) regardless of what happens I have also heard dell will replace it without a big hassel.
I used an iPhone before this phone, and I like this phone better. I have many requests to trade phones from random strangers on the street when they see me using the phone, iPhone 4 users too. So if for some reason you don't like the phone I am sure it wont be hard to trade it up.

Get one man. I went from the iPhone 3g,S,4, HD2, Desire, EVO, and now this. I'm loving this bad boy. It puts the web and everything else in motion man. This screen is the biz. Couldn't wait so using BestBuy/ att locked version until my Dell unlocked comes in. My 30 days will be up on Feb 6 but phone supposed to be here by the 3rd! If not, will be returning this armed then buying it again to start a new 30 days. So wrong, but am I gonna do? Use my wifes Craptivate or the 3.5 iPhone sitting in my drawer? Nope. Can't wait for some Froyo goodness. I digressed some.

Thanks for the replies folks, I am hearing good things from both sides (my other option is the DHD) so if my provider will offer a test run then I will give both of them a whirl and judge that way. I am loving the screen size though. Its ideal. Just worried about development for it. Seems only one guy on the case?
Yeah but he's amazing we already have better that stock version of 2.2 running no problems. When I had stock my quadrant score was 800s now its 1500s and no overclocking.

As other have said on here the Streak IMHO is probably the best device out there.
DJ_Steve may be the only person cooking a ROM for this thing but if he quit tomorrow i know that the 1.6.1 ROM that i'm running will be better than anything Dell ever puts out for this phone.
That being said if i had to choose another device i would probably got for the HTC Infuse on AT&T, which is the Desire HD for you. Same device, just different name.
Although, i'm biased, go with a Streak. You won't be sorry!

I love the Streak. It is insane how great it is and how much I love showing it off.
The only thing in the pipeline now that I would consider instead of the Streak would be the new Motorola ATRIX. A seriously high-end dual-core processor phone would be a step up, I think. But other than that, there isn't much out there to get excited about.

but I prefer to wait iphone 5. I used to have iphone, not only i need bigger screen for browsing. But also can put in my pocket.
so I buy dell streaks. Im expecting the iphone 5 with 4.3" will enough for me instead of 4" which evry people were talking around
I'm waiting for the iPhone 7, it'll be a piece of crap like all the others but at least I won't have to waste my money for a couple more years.
im waiting for the samsung infuse, closest thing to the streak, yet so different
Apparently the screen size on the infuse is going to be 4.3 rather than the originally announced 4.5"... There was concerns they couldn't get enough 4.5" screens to meet demand. That's the story atleast. It's not really a huge difference though.

I am waiting for the iPhone 10 they say it will come with a file explorer and some kind of hyper-mega advance app that will allow me to download files from any website (without having to do any workaround or purchasing a downloader or ifiles),but in the meantime and after selling my iPhone 3GS 2 weeks ago I will keep enjoying my monster phone/tablet....on top of this the battery is lasting longer and I could afford to remove iTunes.

Hey Guys,
I'm so intrigued by the dell steak i've been wanting to get one for myself since January of this year. Back in March I almost got one when looking for a replacement for my Samsung Captivate, but I ended up getting the HTC Inspire instead. Now it's been quite a few months and I'm bored of this phone again so i'm thinking about looking for anyone that's willing to trade, or I might just sell this phone and buy the streak. However, I'm worried that things that I really love about my Inspire I won't find in the streak:
- The camera and flash. I think the camera on this phone is great and I always find myself taking pictures at family events and the like.
- The speed. This phone is FAST. At least for me. And I really don't want to downgrade to a slower phone.
- The physical feel. It feels solid and heavy in my hand. I love that feeling. I know that it can take some beating and i won't have to worry about it breaking.
- the ability to play games. The inspire is powerful enough to play most all games smoothly these days.
So guys, if I decide to get a streak will I be losing any or all of the things that I enjoy about?

Hey Aaron.....
I understand your dilemma...... I found myself in a similar situation about a month ago.....
Having had my Streak for a month, I have absolutely NO regrets whatsoever. Prior to that, I had a Nexus S, and before that, an HTC G2. I'd used wife's iPhone 4, but really wanted to stick with Android. The MINUTE I saw the Streak, I had to have it. The camera is not the greatest, but for quick shots, it's more than adequate for me. The overall design of the Streak, coupled with it's unequalled screen size, far, FAR outweigh any perceived negatives others may have (notice I said "others", because I haven't found any real problems with the Streak WHATSOEVER).
Good luck with your decision, and let us know what you end up with.....
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
1-more thing...... I do have a single, significant issue after using my Streak for only a month... and that is this.... I absolutely CANNOT go back to a smaller-screen device even if it wanted to (seriously).
We were at Disney a few weeks back, and got into a debate that required a quick Wikipedia lookup to settle... Having left my Streak in the hotel room, I attempted to use wife's iPhone to prove I was right . I swear, within 20-minutes I developed a severe headache after trying to scroll, pinch, zoom and squint to read that postage stamp-sized "retina" display (really).
Just giving you ALL of the facts
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Ahh thanks for your response. The main reason I want it is the huge screen!! Thanks I'm looking for one now and am very excited =-].
Aaron.... Good luck with your search and let me know what you end up with (if you don't mind)... THANKS!
Another question. How is the processor speed on the streak? My phone is powerful enough to run the latest apps and games. I assume the dell would be a little weaker? Thanks in advance.
I have not found anything that is taxing to the streak. Only things that will be significantly faster are the new dual core phones.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
Aaron.....
The only phone I've had that's faster than the Streak was my previous Nexus S..... and it was not significantly faster, only marginally faster IMO.
There are custom ROMS you can install that can probably overclock the Streak. Mine is a plain Jane, factory-unlocked Froyo version. Only modding I've done was to delete Dell's "Stage" widgets and installed "Launcher Pro", so I could increase the number of icons and give home screens the "rotating cube" effect.
I can tell you that I can run TurboFly on it without ANY screen redraw pixelization or slow down.
Hope this helps

I like your posts and feedback above very much. Kindly solve my problem as well.
Ever since streak was out, I have always desired to possess this. An year back I had Samsung Spica and currently I have an LG Optimus One. CM 7 runs amazingly fast on it and we have crossed 75fps in neocore. And above all I have just fallen in love with the GB audio effects and cannot think of anything without the gb audio effects.
But I seriously wish to update to a larger screen. And if we talk of large screen, nothing can beat streak. So what do you suggest in my case?

hey aaron i used to have the htc inspire and its a great phone but i got bored with it really quick and after playing with the dell streak a few times i fell in love with it . as a heads up the dell streak is not perfect but because its not it makes the phone more fun that you are really able to mess with it and really make it your own . i sold my HTC real quick . just remember some apps will run and look better on the streak and some will look better on the htc but there is always a fix for the streak . oh one more thing once you go 5inch screen there is no going back .
thanks for your responses guys. =-]. i really want it but i'm having trouble finding anyone looking for a trade =-/
Best of all the android version is almost a vanilla version,it gets better once you root it and remove the bloatware. After installing all the stock versions I decided to stick with version 318 one of the oldest but the less laggy when it comes to DELL Stage.

what a shame, i own this device for over 3 months and i'm more than glad to own it...
but let's look on the bright side, not too many people will have such a great smartphone...and a big one too
I've still got mine, coming up on a year old (where does the time go?)
Came with 1.6, which was better than the previous windows mobile device I had
out of the box, 1.6 was better, I didn't have to change a crap load of settings like I did with WM to get it to function. I waited on 2.2 until December, being a noob on android, I didn't want to brick it. Now that I'm a little more familiar with android, I've customized mine to my liking, and 2.2.2 is rock stable.
Since this is a 75% work 25% personal device, I've held off on 2.3x for now.
It's a shame that Dell has no clue what a little gem they have on their hands.
They've killed it because the bean counters only look at how many they sold, and not the lack of promotion.
When time comes to get a newer device, I'll have to give a serious look before I get another 5" dell, if they even have one, and that's a shame. Over the past 10+ years, I've owned nothing but Dell laptops, and have had excellent results, and only a time or two, had to have them repaired, but Dell dropped the ball on the Streak.
I just read it a couple of minutes ago. Its such a shame. I hope they do release the drivers now, so devs can port Gingerbread/IceCream to it. Oh wait. It's Dell. Ah crap, there won't be ANY drivers.
So sad to see it go. Also looks like there will be no replacement for it either. While my Dell Streak has always had its share of quirks I've never liked a phone more. Most people who saw my phone had never heard of it. Even a few people who work in the AT&T store didn't know what it was. I'm also running 2.2.2 right now and it is really stable and very nice IMO.
That being said, I have had my share of issues. Both of the batteries that I've gotten from Dell had to be replaced and the third one in my phone is beginning to show signs of being either bad or getting there (not sure how that works as I only have Dell chargers for the phone). The phone tends to over heat when running GPS and anything else ie. I get a call or play music in the car. Despite my best efforts to keep it nice, the paint is chipping off of the battery cover and the Dell logo has completely come off.
After all of that I still love this phone and will be very sad when I do have to trade it in. Though I won't miss carrying around a charger in my pocket .
My conclusion is that this phone's failure was pretty much 100% Dell's fault. If they had just gotten the freakin' thing into an AT&T store instead of only selling it online and in BestBuy this wouldn't be happening right now.
lol XD
i bought my streak 2 weeks ago ( though my brother has yet to bring it to me from far off place -.-)
I don't know if i should be worried or feel proud.
I used brother's streak and it works wonders really.
So i think they won't update phone any further ? i wanted honeycomb for my mobile because that OS is made just for tablets. Any chance for updates for OS ?

Anyways. i have heard a lot about Steve on this forums. looks like he is a streak freak XD
Honeycomb not good for streak
Honeycomb was designed for tablets with hires screens without hardware home/menu/back buttons. The streak is not really a tablet but a phone with a big screen. I'd hate to lose the use of the hardware buttons and have to use on screen buttons in honeycomb.
Hell, a lot of android apps don't run well in honeycomb and need different versions.
The streak doesn't really benefit from running honeycomb.
I agree that if you are using the streak as a phone first device then yes HC does not sound practical. but once the streak has run its course for any cunsumer, which is soon, for me. I would love to turn this bad boy into a HC mini-tablet.

Not to pile on here, but I have to agree. I literally just picked up a Galaxy SII and the only redeeming quality of the Streak is the screen size advantage.
The Streak is a great device, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the Galaxy SII at this point in time. I loved my short stint with the Streak, really. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I want to share my experience.
My main complaints:
The speed. It actually feels slower than I ever imagined by comparison, but that's not a knock, really. After all, it's an older device
But....
The sound quality is absolutely abhorrent in comparison to the Galaxy SII or any other smartphone I've ever used, including the HD2, Vibrant, several Nokia devices, etc.
There is a constant and definitely audible signal noise in the Streak that really bugged me. As a recording engineer, I can definitely hear the difference between the audio systems on the two devices. When the playback system kicks in, you can literally hear the hiss in the background. When the playback stops, the hiss vanishes. Upon further investigation, it seems that this is a known issue that found its way into several reviews. If I hadn't heard it for myself, I'd have not believed how terrible it actually sounded, and frankly, it's SO bad that I find it inexcusable on such a high-end device.
I sold my iPod and bought a larger MicroSD to use my phone as my main portable media device, and the Streak really let me down.
I was able to sell it to a friend, since my boss agreed to subsidize my upgrade cost by 50%, so I came out about $100 ahead. I couldn't pass that up.
In my area at least, the Galaxy SII has a waiting list with at least 200 people's names on it.
Again, I don't want to sound ungrateful, because I liked a lot of aspects of the Streak, as it is a groundbreaking device in its class, but the killer was the audio system. It's really painfully bad.
I'm not sure if it was just MY device and those of the reviewers in isolation, but I doubt it. Maybe others just don't pay attention to it, but for me the hiss was disturbing.
I just got a new job and was issued a Dell Venue Pro with windows phone 7 on it.... started plugging around with that and it is now my primary phone. Can't believe how fluid it is and all the integration with mango. Using my streak primarily as a gps for the car now... :-(
just about had it with the streak being slow, clunky.. I don't blame Dell, I blame Android. After a few days with WM7... I can see that Android is not ready for prime time... it might be after whatever comes out after ice cream sandwich..
like usual though the camera is subpar on the dvp, just like the streak.
if google came out with navigation for wm7, it would be ditched already.
I never own a venue pro.must be good.do you think it's too thick or too heavy?

This is sad! You 2 guys are like celebrities in the Streak world...
I still love mine, but have not tried any newer phones. May have to look into the SGS II, as I don't see the Note being a viable alternative for the near future in the US.
Krad, what do you like about Winmo 7? I have had nothing but Windows phones since smart phones were invented (Streak is my first Android), but I heard Winmo 7 was just kind of a simplified (although pretty) UI. Is there lots of development?
I am positive that Android is the wave of the (foreseeable) future, and have really enjoyed it.

The new HTC titan looks nice,.4.7" screen. Note also looks good but I believe titan will come out sooner.
