Sad for a Streak 5 owner, like me.
Such a shame the device was poorly marketed, people I know who have seen mine, 50% say its too big, but the other 50% say they would love a larger screen but just hadnt heard about the streak. Shame on dells marketing department.
Only 3 months till I need to upgrade, and no sign of the opus one, looks like all my hopes are pinned on the rumors of a 5.3" galaxy 2......

what a shame, i own this device for over 3 months and i'm more than glad to own it...
but let's look on the bright side, not too many people will have such a great smartphone...and a big one too
I've still got mine, coming up on a year old (where does the time go?)
Came with 1.6, which was better than the previous windows mobile device I had
out of the box, 1.6 was better, I didn't have to change a crap load of settings like I did with WM to get it to function. I waited on 2.2 until December, being a noob on android, I didn't want to brick it. Now that I'm a little more familiar with android, I've customized mine to my liking, and 2.2.2 is rock stable.
Since this is a 75% work 25% personal device, I've held off on 2.3x for now.
It's a shame that Dell has no clue what a little gem they have on their hands.
They've killed it because the bean counters only look at how many they sold, and not the lack of promotion.
When time comes to get a newer device, I'll have to give a serious look before I get another 5" dell, if they even have one, and that's a shame. Over the past 10+ years, I've owned nothing but Dell laptops, and have had excellent results, and only a time or two, had to have them repaired, but Dell dropped the ball on the Streak.
I just read it a couple of minutes ago. Its such a shame. I hope they do release the drivers now, so devs can port Gingerbread/IceCream to it. Oh wait. It's Dell. Ah crap, there won't be ANY drivers.
So sad to see it go. Also looks like there will be no replacement for it either. While my Dell Streak has always had its share of quirks I've never liked a phone more. Most people who saw my phone had never heard of it. Even a few people who work in the AT&T store didn't know what it was. I'm also running 2.2.2 right now and it is really stable and very nice IMO.
That being said, I have had my share of issues. Both of the batteries that I've gotten from Dell had to be replaced and the third one in my phone is beginning to show signs of being either bad or getting there (not sure how that works as I only have Dell chargers for the phone). The phone tends to over heat when running GPS and anything else ie. I get a call or play music in the car. Despite my best efforts to keep it nice, the paint is chipping off of the battery cover and the Dell logo has completely come off.
After all of that I still love this phone and will be very sad when I do have to trade it in. Though I won't miss carrying around a charger in my pocket .
My conclusion is that this phone's failure was pretty much 100% Dell's fault. If they had just gotten the freakin' thing into an AT&T store instead of only selling it online and in BestBuy this wouldn't be happening right now.
lol XD
i bought my streak 2 weeks ago ( though my brother has yet to bring it to me from far off place -.-)
I don't know if i should be worried or feel proud.
I used brother's streak and it works wonders really.
So i think they won't update phone any further ? i wanted honeycomb for my mobile because that OS is made just for tablets. Any chance for updates for OS ?

Oh yeah ! thank you for this great news ^^
new to forums. will be active when i receive my phone. it's currently 300 km away and i refused courier -.- So i will go pick it up whenever i go delhi XD
Anyways. i have heard a lot about Steve on this forums. looks like he is a streak freak XD
Honeycomb not good for streak
Honeycomb was designed for tablets with hires screens without hardware home/menu/back buttons. The streak is not really a tablet but a phone with a big screen. I'd hate to lose the use of the hardware buttons and have to use on screen buttons in honeycomb.
Hell, a lot of android apps don't run well in honeycomb and need different versions.
The streak doesn't really benefit from running honeycomb.
I agree that if you are using the streak as a phone first device then yes HC does not sound practical. but once the streak has run its course for any cunsumer, which is soon, for me. I would love to turn this bad boy into a HC mini-tablet.

Not to pile on here, but I have to agree. I literally just picked up a Galaxy SII and the only redeeming quality of the Streak is the screen size advantage.
The Streak is a great device, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the Galaxy SII at this point in time. I loved my short stint with the Streak, really. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I want to share my experience.
My main complaints:
The speed. It actually feels slower than I ever imagined by comparison, but that's not a knock, really. After all, it's an older device
But....
The sound quality is absolutely abhorrent in comparison to the Galaxy SII or any other smartphone I've ever used, including the HD2, Vibrant, several Nokia devices, etc.
There is a constant and definitely audible signal noise in the Streak that really bugged me. As a recording engineer, I can definitely hear the difference between the audio systems on the two devices. When the playback system kicks in, you can literally hear the hiss in the background. When the playback stops, the hiss vanishes. Upon further investigation, it seems that this is a known issue that found its way into several reviews. If I hadn't heard it for myself, I'd have not believed how terrible it actually sounded, and frankly, it's SO bad that I find it inexcusable on such a high-end device.
I sold my iPod and bought a larger MicroSD to use my phone as my main portable media device, and the Streak really let me down.
I was able to sell it to a friend, since my boss agreed to subsidize my upgrade cost by 50%, so I came out about $100 ahead. I couldn't pass that up.
In my area at least, the Galaxy SII has a waiting list with at least 200 people's names on it.
Again, I don't want to sound ungrateful, because I liked a lot of aspects of the Streak, as it is a groundbreaking device in its class, but the killer was the audio system. It's really painfully bad.
I'm not sure if it was just MY device and those of the reviewers in isolation, but I doubt it. Maybe others just don't pay attention to it, but for me the hiss was disturbing.
I just got a new job and was issued a Dell Venue Pro with windows phone 7 on it.... started plugging around with that and it is now my primary phone. Can't believe how fluid it is and all the integration with mango. Using my streak primarily as a gps for the car now... :-(
just about had it with the streak being slow, clunky.. I don't blame Dell, I blame Android. After a few days with WM7... I can see that Android is not ready for prime time... it might be after whatever comes out after ice cream sandwich..
like usual though the camera is subpar on the dvp, just like the streak.
if google came out with navigation for wm7, it would be ditched already.
I never own a venue pro.must be good.do you think it's too thick or too heavy?

This is sad! You 2 guys are like celebrities in the Streak world...
I still love mine, but have not tried any newer phones. May have to look into the SGS II, as I don't see the Note being a viable alternative for the near future in the US.
Krad, what do you like about Winmo 7? I have had nothing but Windows phones since smart phones were invented (Streak is my first Android), but I heard Winmo 7 was just kind of a simplified (although pretty) UI. Is there lots of development?
I am positive that Android is the wave of the (foreseeable) future, and have really enjoyed it.

Ok well bgr is reporting Dell will release it's streak 7 this coming month. So bow I'm wondering if I should cancel or keep my order for the streak 5 I jis bought. Especially since according to shipping I won't get till the 18th of January anyways. What do you guys think? Anyone else who just bought a streak feel the same way? Or should I just suck it up an know I'll be happy with my streak 5.
The streak is simply the best phone I have ever had and believe me, if there was anything else better I would have one. Even after having it for a few months now I'm still very happy with it. I bought myself and otterbox case and that transformed it from being a fragile device to something I worry much less about dropping. I also use launcher pro because the dell home launcher is not so great IMO.
Don't buy the 7"
;-)

I wouldn't trade my 5 inch streak in for any 7 in one. Reduces its mobility. I use the streak as my primary phone so I need the smaller form factor.

The solution to your quandary is fairly simple:
Run in to your nearest Best Buy or some other electronics store, shoot even most of the carriers are stocking the Galaxy Tab at this point, pick up one of the 7" tablets, and hold it to your head as if you were talking on a phone call. Ask the person closest to you if you look silly (or use the word "stupid" if you like)...base your decision on their answer.
just kidding. Stick with the 5" model. You can do everything you will want to do on the 5" screen and still utilize it as a phone, eliminating the need for a second device--I have pretty much stopped using my laptop, too.
All I need. In my pocket.

I absolutely love my phone. The first day I was having doubts thinking "OMG, It's HUGE" but then after 3 days of use, I needed to use something on my iphone and I went back to it and I couldn't... I just couldn't stand such a small screen. Android 2.2 on the streak is just awesome, I love the OS. I have only had one lock up, and since then, everything has been as smooth as silk. Great phone. I wouldn't go back on it! Right now I'm thinking about accessories.
There will be some times in your life when an extra 2 inches would make you very popular but you'll find that the ability to keep it in your back pocket wins every time...
7" is too much unless you will be using it strickly as a tablet, the 5" is a perfect phone. Come to think of it, will the 7" have phone capabilites?
Furthermore if Dell is said to be releasing the 7" next month it HONESTLY will not be released until the end of the summer as the nitemare of the 5" slowly starts to come to mind all over again...
Something else to consider besides the size of the device is the fact that everything I have seen points to the fact that the 7" Streak will be released for Tmobile...I'm not saying that is a negative, just that it is something to consider.
Does Tmo work well where you live/work? I'm assuming the draw to this device is Tmo's claims to have the "fastest 4g network", which we all know is crap (but that's another thread). Yes, the device can be unlocked, but then the speed will be altered...
Bottom line, to answer the original question, I have no buyer's remorse with my 5" Streak, my Captivate with the 2.2 Axura rom is just sitting on my desk, and my wife inherited my iPhone 3GS. And, sometimes she even asks to borrow my phone to get online, cuz the screen is so much bigger than hers...
If I were going to get a 7", I'd just go ahead and get a 10" tablet.
The 5" sits well on my belt, pocket. I use BT, so holding it to my head isn't
an issue.

I've been saying this from the day I bought my Streak. I wanted portability. The Streak is perfect in that regard.

i cant imagine a phone id like more yet than my streak. when it came down to getting a new phone, i really wanted something with a large screen and android and on att. if any phone was going to convince me i needed a hardware keyboard, it would have been my touch pro 2, but with its larger screen size and more intuitive on screen keyboard, it convinced me what i needed was a thin keyboard-less large capacitive screen device. while looking at options like an australian imported hd2, i came across the streak and havent looked back. the other options i briefly looked at where the samsung captivate and sony x10. i just couldnt love to have the samsung and my brother has an x10 and well... if you think dell let down some good phone hardware, go play with an x10, its truly awful.

Hilarious!!! Its true. The seven is would be like holding a galaxy tab to your ear.
I bought my streak when it came out in august. I have owned many phones including the iphone 3g and iphone 4. The dell streak is by far the best phone I have ever owned to date. The only thing I give the ipbone 4 is the camera. The speed on the streaks camera is much improvded on froyo but still lacks behind the iphone. Other than that I love the streak! No remorse here!!!!

The 5" is perfect. It is definitely large, and it can look a bit weird held up to your face, but it puts the ear-piece and microphone in the perfect location. No more talking to the air, you talk directly into the phone.
The 7" would be nice as a tablet which can also make calls. But, I think a 7" tablet is probably too small. I hate to say it but the 10" iPad seems like the perfect sized device for a tablet. It is more like a netbook / laptop sized screen so webpages would display correctly. A 7" tablet seems like you lose a lot of capability without gaining a lot of mobility. Both are going to have to go in a bag or a bckpack or a satchel of some kind, so why not get the equally cumbersom yet larger real-estate of a full-sized tablet?
If the 7" can make calls then it gives you a great option for the back-pack tablet with a bluetooth headset. I don't know of a 10" tablet that can do that, yet, out of the box.
I'm in love with my Streak. The lady at the store even said ... "If it isn't convenient for you, you can always bring it back within 30 days." I even considered it .. you know, thought about whether or not I'd return it. I'm only 10 days into using my Streak, and I can't imagine going to anything else. The iPhone's I'm surrounded by seem so small in comparison.
I don't think I'd like a 7" primary phone. That's just too big. The Streak is about as large as I'd go to fit in my pocket for daily use. It fits in my pocket, front or back, and it rides comfortably in the center console slot of my car. It really is sized to take full advantage of the spaces in the real-world.
tl/dr :: I love the Streak and I wouldn't switch.
Well I would stick with the streak 5.. I had one and decided to switch to a windows phone, and that was a huge mistake! I now went and got another streak form BestBuy they had a white one in stock that is pretty awesome looking.. My point is, that I have had a lot of phone and the Streak is by far the best one I have had. Even running an outdated version of Android. I'm sure the 7 will be great as well, but i wold not want to carry that around as my primary device. Good luck with your purchase.
Streak 7 is still in testing phase, it will be out only by mid 2011. Galaxy tab doesn't have a earpiece built in. So conversations only through bluetooth headset or speaker. Galaxy or Streak 7 cannot be used as primary device.

I used to love you but you had to go back. Community support was awesome, hardware was good, Dell software was awful, and no light at the end of the tunnel. My 30-day trial of the Streak is over. I have been convinced that Android is better than iOS. I'm going to go back to my 3g for now, at least until the new Motorola shiny comes out.
Best Buy took my phone back and didn't charge me the restocking fee. They also didn't check the version on my phone or even open the box. I did take it back complete with charger and headphones, tho, just in case.
I will have a Slacker G2 dock for sale soon. Thanks everyone for your information, and especially to DJ_Steve for his incredible ROMs.
That sucks but which/what dell software are you talking about?
And how much do you want for the G2 dock?
Wow.. loving the streak after coming from a Samsung galaxy s. This android phone works 100%. Wonder what else it needed for you

Same boat here. Just sold mine on eBay. As nice as the hardware may be I do not see myself buying another Dell mobile product. DJ Steve's rom is the only reason I kept the Streak as long as I did. I look forward to more vanilla android options as consumers become increasingly frustrated with custom handset skins and upgrade delays.

gave mine up this past Friday... too much trouble for such a cool device. Sold it, bought myself another HD2 (had one before). Loved the HD2 but the Windows OS sucked on it. Heard that they successfully ported the Android ROMS with everything working, so I researched, and sure enough, the cooked ROMs are way better than anything Dell put out. Got the HD2, flashed it in 10 mins, and it's beautimous. I will miss the size of the streak for a while, but I missed 3G more (was using it on TMO). Edge was just too slow.
Hmm?
I could understand leaving if one was still waiting for 2.2... or had hardware problems... or didn't like the size...
But this device smokes on Steve's builds and the official 318.

The only official build available to me was the AT&T 1.6, which was a No Can Do right there. I was waiting for an 'official' build from Dell, which is why I gave them 30 days. I had some random issues like the pocket time thing and the camera would FC on me about 30% of the time when shooting video, and the best I ever got from it was 6.77 fps at 720p when it didn't FC. The unresponsive screen was the biggest problem to me, since the policy my company requires for (sux0r) outlook access will wipe the device after 10 failed attempts in a row.
I agree the device on Steve's builds smokes pretty much anything available today. The 318 was pretty good, but wasn't an 'official' build for me either. So I would have preferred to use an official build, but Dell has completely stopped talking about when it is coming out since mid-December. I loved the size. I also ordered a cable and a car dock for it on Dec 23, and Dell's ship date was the 19th of Jan. A month lead time for a cable and a dock for a product that they launched 6mo+ ago is hopeless, IMO.
Add all those little issues up, throw in the Samsung and the Motorola (both Tegra 2's) that were announced for AT&T at CES, and I think I can wait until March for a phone that is pretty much guaranteed to run Gingerbread. Hell, I've lived this long with an iPhone 3g, a couple of extra months isn't going to kill me.
I could not go back to any other phone since I had my Streak. I had been an iphone user since its release as well as with many other smartphones that I have used, cant even compare to my Streak. I cant put this baby down. Yeah I understand it's horrible with stock 1.6 but as soon as I upgraded ROM's, Jesus Christ.. this phone is totally wicked in every way.
After being used to the streak it doesnt feel as big in the hand anymore, and I had help my sister out with her iphone and I must say the iphone now looks so tiny to me...lol
But sad to see a Streak user unhappy.....

Lol dude anything on EDGE is crap, had to live with a moto milestone no 3G band for my country, I felt like I had a Ferrari Enzo in Cuba if you know what I mean.
Can totally understand the frustrations of the art locked version but coming from a Samsung galaxy s, this phone does smoke and doesn't need a custom rom.
I am actually shocked how fast and stable this prepossessing froyo unit is.
I guess it doesn't matter what phone it is... people will always love it or hate it.
I personally will never buy another Samsung phone again.

Yep, and it helped, but didn't completely fix the problem. I was trying to get all the bugs worked out in the 30-day window, and it didn't happen. It could be that some update will fix it in the future.
i too sold my streak yesterday as it was getting extremely frustrating with having to install so many tweaks just to keep it running. 2 days ago did a factory a reset and it got stuck at boot logo. no matter what i did it just wouldnt boot. after nearly 2 days of trying everything, i just sold it and bought a hd7 and loving it!
Almost wonder how much they are selling for, if I were to sell mine it would be to buy another unlocked one. At some point I will toy with getting the Moto Atrix because its so DAMN powerful! Anyone whos seen the videos know, but I really can't see how I could get used to a smaller screen after 3 months of the streak.
Still on the fence
I have alos just got a streak and i love it. I went from a 3gs to the streak. I wasnt even looking to uograde. I was just tooling around best buy and it caught my eye. I asked a slaesperson about it and he tried to talk me out of it. He kept telling me it was a tablet phone and not really functional as a phone. But i saw the potential this hardware could have. long story short i bought one.
I do love this phone. But there have a been a few issues which may force me to return it be fore my 30 days are up.
I seems to randomly start applications and use up memory after i upgraded it to the 2.2 software. The screen is while pretty good is not as responsive as my iphone. sometimes totally unresponsive. the phone occaisionally crashes and reboots and hangs at the dell logo requiring me to remove the battery and replace it to get it to reboot. a few other stupid things that i dont like is that my pictures are filled with album covers and other crap from apps. which is somthing that my palm pre did.
another big deal breaker for me is that the sync software is complete and total garbage. rarley connects and when it does it doesnt work. i had to resort to maually loading my media to the sd card. which is ok. but i would prefer a good functional syncing software. (although i have no love for itunes either, which is my biggest gripe about iphone).
also i had the unlimited iphone data plan and lost it when i upgraded to the streak. but thats just at&t being cheap ass'es.
I really like this phone and i admit that i am new to android software. although i am enjoying learning it and having a new toy to tinker with. i have 5 more days to decide. if i do return this phone i will just wait a few months till they update it or come out with a next gen or another company maufactures something similar.
Just an FYI: I was an Iphone user since first launched so I have the Unlimited iphone data plan that they dont offer no more. I then went to a Streak and I had asked them about my Grandfathered in Unlimited Data plan if I would loose it and they guaranteed me I wouldnt as long as I stayed with any smartphone. ( ie.. Apple, Blackberry and Android ) To make a long story short I still retain my original unlimited data plan.
So far I havent had any problems on my locked ATT Streak running on the official 2.2 305 via QDL. Hopfully it would stay that way.

I had a 3GS Then bought a captivate in July...and the streak in november. Love the streak. No way I'd go back to a smaller screen. Captivate was fine with a custom rom. But with the stock rom it was AWFUL! I was surprised how fast the streak was on stock froyo.
But speaking of the unlimited data. Call AT&T and get them to put it back on your account. I too am grandfathered in. That's total bull**** they made you change plans at best buy.
Hi folks,
I have a month left on my contract and looking at the streak or the DHD and it would be great if you guys who have the streak can leave your thoughts on why you chose it and what you like about it. The 'issue' I have at the moment is the way of charging it, not by USB. Ok its a small issue but I tend to have a charger connection at work and home just in case so would need to purchase another one (more expense lol)
The other thing is development as there only seems to be the one custom rom for it (please tell me if I am wrong).
So, benefits, nice massive screen is always good (coming from a Hero) and from what I have read its quite nippy too (has it the newer snapdragon or the older one?)
It either this or the DHD
Do a search mate there are lots of threads on people asking the same question and as far as development only Steve is doing it right now and he does a dam good job, one of the problems with development is Dell have not released the Source code until they do Steve can only do so much but he has done a lot better than dell.

Yeh I did a search but nowt. So, Dell are not releasing the source code? I thought this was against Googles rules?
I like HTC because theyre pretty good with updates and support and what not. What I don't like about their products is that theyre all nearly identical. As soon as they release a "ground breaking" product, they release another one that slightly tops it a month later.
I like the streak because theres no hardware (the screen) out there like it. Pair that with front cam, snapdragon, nice battery, and you have specs that rival the top of the game. Although the 1.6 os (for AT&T) is a joke, and theres only streakdroid as a custom rom, I find the streak community very supportive.
Streak is the best! Its only gonna get better as development increases. Get one, you should be able to return it within a month if you don't like it. Once you get used to the size, you can't go back. I never use my netbook anymore...
How many times in a day do you streak owners hear "Wow! Is that your phone!? Can i see it?"

Lemme summerize what ppl have been sayiing and how I feel about the streak. Amazing phone, obivously biggest advantage is the big screen, and trust me when I tell u this, when you go soooo big u won't be able to go back to 3.7 inches.
The biggest problem with the phone, the camera. If you are a camera person, do not get this phone. this is not to say the camera is crap, but its pretty bad for 5mp.
People have been telling me that they drop their phone and it wasn't a high drop and the screen broke, I drop my phone really hard on the bare ground from 4 feet high and nothing happened (alittle scartch on the back, nothing on the screen) regardless of what happens I have also heard dell will replace it without a big hassel.
I used an iPhone before this phone, and I like this phone better. I have many requests to trade phones from random strangers on the street when they see me using the phone, iPhone 4 users too. So if for some reason you don't like the phone I am sure it wont be hard to trade it up.

Get one man. I went from the iPhone 3g,S,4, HD2, Desire, EVO, and now this. I'm loving this bad boy. It puts the web and everything else in motion man. This screen is the biz. Couldn't wait so using BestBuy/ att locked version until my Dell unlocked comes in. My 30 days will be up on Feb 6 but phone supposed to be here by the 3rd! If not, will be returning this armed then buying it again to start a new 30 days. So wrong, but am I gonna do? Use my wifes Craptivate or the 3.5 iPhone sitting in my drawer? Nope. Can't wait for some Froyo goodness. I digressed some.
Sent from my freakn Dell Streakn! 3.5 retina? Get outta heh!
Thanks for the replies folks, I am hearing good things from both sides (my other option is the DHD) so if my provider will offer a test run then I will give both of them a whirl and judge that way. I am loving the screen size though. Its ideal. Just worried about development for it. Seems only one guy on the case?
Yeah but he's amazing we already have better that stock version of 2.2 running no problems. When I had stock my quadrant score was 800s now its 1500s and no overclocking.
So even its only one guy he is doing better work than 20 guys.

Well yes that seems to be the case but how long into the future will development go for the Dell. I dont want to have a phone that is going to be redundant in 6 months time. Ok thats probably selfish on my point seeing as someone else is doing all the hardwork but we do get spolit you know lol
He already said he is skipping 2.3 if u were wondeing.about but he did also say he will working on 3.0 when it comes out.

Check out the Samsung Infuse 4G, for AT&T. It may be a viable alternative for you Haizum74.

Cheers dude, I'm in England though
As other have said on here the Streak IMHO is probably the best device out there.
DJ_Steve may be the only person cooking a ROM for this thing but if he quit tomorrow i know that the 1.6.1 ROM that i'm running will be better than anything Dell ever puts out for this phone.
That being said if i had to choose another device i would probably got for the HTC Infuse on AT&T, which is the Desire HD for you. Same device, just different name.
Although, i'm biased, go with a Streak. You won't be sorry!
+1 for crappy camm...other than that, I luv my streak...only wish I could get dlna to work..would luv to stream my video library while on the crapper

I love the Streak. It is insane how great it is and how much I love showing it off.
The only thing in the pipeline now that I would consider instead of the Streak would be the new Motorola ATRIX. A seriously high-end dual-core processor phone would be a step up, I think. But other than that, there isn't much out there to get excited about.
Well my contract renewal is on the horizon, I feel I cant go back to a screen smaller than 5 inches after using my streak for so long, but with no updates about the opus1 in over 6 months, what other 5 inch devices will be available in the coming months?
If any?

I think Acer has one that is or is about 5". Its not out yet tho. Google "Acer iconia smart". I think I'm gonna get the HTC holiday if it ever comes out. It's only 4.5" tho.

light and plastic, feel like a toy
made to look like a iphone
running smooth,perf is good
scr is over saturate,unreal
the touch is not as smooth as Streak
5" Addiction
I like TOTALLY feel your pain.... If my Streak ever breaks, I'll be forced into "pocket-tablet rehab" LOL... As you know, other devices look SO small now... even the HTC Sensation, which I had very high hopes for, is significantly more narrow (screen size), than an HD2 or Evo.... To me, it's basically a narrow strip of glass.... Same goes for the Acer Iconia..... it has something like a 21:9 aspect ratio, meaning it's an even longer "strip of glass" than even the Sensation. I did read that Samsung is coming out with a "Q" model, that's supposedly 5.3" (bigger than our Streaks even)..... Unfortunately, it will probably have worse LCD-fracturing problems because it's surrounding frame will constitute the most lightweight/cheap plastic available.... I think I'll need Streak methadone to get mine out of my hands :-o...... Good luck, and tell us what you end up with
Ill wait and see what dell comes out with next. I'm in no rush for a new device. This streak is keeping me very satisfied!
Can't go to a smaller screen. The Q with the folding display looks like an intriguing device.

I was ROFL x2 after reading your rehab post too, because what you've said regarding moving from the Dell 5" screen to anything smaller would slap me so far into pocket-tablet-rehab, I dont think I would EVER recover..
As torn up as Winehouse was, its still a sad moment when someone dies , even so young.

You would trust Dell again? Seriously? They used to have a crime called "non-support" that you could get arrested for. They should round up all the Dell executives and lock them away.
They'll be playing hockey in Hell before I buy another Dell product.
Okay, I might chance a computer...

My screen has had a crack in it for months now and dirt has started working its way inside. I have serious reservations about what that seam will look like after a while, but I really like the concept.
Too true..... Having been on the receiving end of an intervention many, MANY moons ago, I can still see the humor in comments above..... It's too bad no one could get through to her in time...
Anywho, comments overheard at a recent Streak intervention: "We all love you so much.... can't you see what this Streak is doing to your life"?..... "You have it up..... I mean on your arm from morning to night"..... "You give all your money to Michael Dell..... can't you see what that does to people who love you"?.... "Please for your own good, pick up a Sensation or a Galaxy"

Yep, she was really one of the uniquely talented singers today who would have made a legendary mark in music like other greats. Sorry to see her go.
Michael Dell OWNS MY SOUL, because, I cannot kick this habit! This monkey on my back called the Dell Streak has is the BEST phone ive ever owned. I know I will have serious withdrawals EVERY time I look at a phone with smaller screens. And totally come unhinged when using a constantly sticky/choppy winmo device. Yup, I dont think theres an intervention that can cure me of my Dell Streak Fix
Ditto, RicoDude ! (as I pass Rico the Streakpipe)
I was considering an alternative to my streak, until I figured out what was causing the FC's & lag. Once I uninstalled launcher pro, and installed go launcher, geez, my streak flies now. I think I'll skip an upgrade this fall, unless something in a 5" range is released and has no hiccups.
Lol, Hilderbrandt, its TRUE
check this pantech vega no. 5, it is better than the streak. The only problem is we don't know when it will be available in the UK/US
Hey I just read a couple of positive (sort of), reviews on the Viewsonic ViewPad 7.... I see the price for one is down to $299 at CompUSA...... Comes with slower processor (but not hideously slow), and has out-of-the-box, unlocked GSM phone capabilities.... Maybe someone here could buy one and tell me how it turns out LOL

If viewsonic 7, then why not dell streak 7?
But I don't think anything bigger than 5" will classify as phone too. They would simply be tablets.

Another Streak would be my first guess. Then I would maybe think about the EVO 3D(don't care for 3D just want dual core)
Atrix ftw. And see what samsung announces soon.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
This has been on my mind as well. I had a close call this weekend myself. My Streak went into an endless reboot loop and would not stop. FINALLY I got it to boot and immediately did a factory reset. So far so good but I'm getting nervous about this thing in general. I went back to my WinMo phone over the weekend and I'm still liking it but there's too much crap like Words With Friends, etc that I can't live without now. And I'm not wild about Android either but I had to have it with the Streak.
Bottom-line for me ... Probably will switch to the iPhone 5 when it comes out. Mooooooooo!

Ouch!!
I actually have a second backup streak but if I couldn't use it for some reason then I would probably go back to my winmo phone. I have an old Tilt.
It'd either be that or my old BB curve duct-tapped onto my laptop. Then I would just wait for hopefully the next 5" streak, or another 5" Android phone.
No i-anything for me. Flash is a must.
I would have to hunt down another premium-condition Streak, even if I had to may more for it (sad to say)... I've owned virtually every "premium" phone available.... Nexus S, iPhone 4 (w/Gevey SIM), G2 and a G2x.... None can compare (even though the Nexus S and the G2x were faster)..... What good is it if you can load a full web page in 2-seconds if you have to spend another 3-seconds scrolling and zooming in order to see it
That new 4.5" Samsung sounds good on paper, but their products are so cheaply constructed (Nexus S good example of that), that I'll Streak til I die LOL

Atrix or any other phone with webtop would be a viable alternative.

Definitely the GSII
another streak i think
New boxers? Sorry. Had to.

Winmo? God I have the HTC Advantage and I can barely live with Winmo.. and thats the BADEST Winmo phone ever made.

I don't think "cheaply constructed" is a good argument since our phone is primarily held together by glue!!. =-X.
I'm using a Motorola Atrix currently. I still keep my streak, but I use it as my alarm clock on my nightstand, e-reader, web surfer / all of the above while I'm at home.
I love my streak and will never get rid of it, but unfortunately I cannot get my work email on my streak because of security limitations. Otherwise, i'd still be using my streak.

isn't is the same OS? I don't understand how the atrix could do it and the streak couldn't not..?

Aaron 89..... you're absolutely right about our Streaks being held together by glue (not to mention a shoddy battery door/locking mechanism) However; My Samsung-made Nexus S was left in the car (not in direct sunlight), for about 5-hours and the heat caused the screen to separate from the case... That's why, in my experience, I am convinced Samsung phones are made of the cheapest/thinnest plastics available.... They did replace it, but I sold the replacement phone IMMEDIATELY and bought myself a Streak and have never looked back
Speaking of Windows Mobile, oops, I mean "Windows Phone",.... my cousin has a Dell Venue Pro, and that phone is a true piece of engineering.... it's absolutely beautiful and it's so heavily constructed I believe you could drive nails with it.... I almost bought one and probably would have, but I just can't stomach Microsoft's phone OS (compared to Android)... it's intuitive enough, but just so damned boring to look at, not to mention lacking in capabilities (no threaded conversations in email, no call filtering (or app), for contacts, "cut & paste" VERY limited across their platform, etc..

The atrix has official gingerbreak on it. I"m not sure what security protocols are being followed, but everytime I tried to connect via my Streak, I was given the message "Your hardware does not meet the requirements" or " Unable to something or other regarding the security requirements set forth by my network administrator".

I love the windows mobile 7 OS! I used my streak 5" for a personal phone, and used a Dell Venue Pro as my work phone and it's quite an amazing phone. IT's very simple... Much more so than an iPhone, but it's the perfect OS for non-techie types... (i.e. my mom, my grandmother, my wife...)
