Everytime I hard reset my phone, my applications redownload on their own. I do not want this. I uncheck the back up my data option under privacy and it still happens. How can I stop this?
Uncheck under privacy, force a sync, and try again.
If that doesnt work, then when you hard reset and after you do the INITIAL login to your account, you should see an option that says "backup my apps" or whatever........uncheck that. It wont download them but I'm not sure if you will see all of your apps in the market list.

I have done both of those and still. I get the same results. I am pretty sure I have tried to do this every way possible.
Skip your gmail account log in until you turn off mobile data, then turn off sync and uncheck it in privacy setting then go log in. See if that works
Get a new gmail account or simply don't log in

I skipped the setup process then went in and did it, that seemed to work. Thanks guys
Another way is when you click set up Google account and are at the page where you type in your email and password just press the menu button and hit disable restore.

I decided I wanted to turn off the auto-restore as I'm going to be using titanium backup from now on and I came around the same problem as the OP. Every way I tried to leave it off, didn't work. I used all different ways of wiping, factory reset and such.
^^^that is THE ONLY way it seems to work. The only apps you will see in the market are the ones you purchased, and those will not download. Thanks for the tip

I am so surprised that I have never seen this. Thanks
Also it seems that if you skip the process, add your account and disable the auto-restore, and then you re-wipe and and still uncheck backup data, it will restore your apps again. So you have to skip everytime.

I guess that would make sense. I thought that because I enabled the undo feature, one would need to wait for a spell to sync up....but your answer makes more sense. LOL
Tried what was started above an it didn't help what can be causing this should I uninstall and then reinstall market gmail?
Try actually going into applications and deleting the data on Gmail then force sync it.

Whenever I change android builds, my apps magically automatically reinstall from market.
I hate this and want this to stop.
I thought maybe it had to do with Titanium backup, but after going through all the settings there I couldn't find it there.
Is this some Android setting I need to take care of? If so, which?
Thank you

That'll do it, thanks.
Is there any way to retroactively disable it without running the entire setup again?

you dont need to run the set up again, check your settings, scroll down to privacy & if "Back up my settings" has a tick, untick it & ur done.
p.s. or just un check the auto restore below it.
My apps I want to backup gets into internal memory on the phone. Whats up with that?
Now I got 10mb free...
For some reason, even though I have 'backup' AND 'restore' disabled, suddenly when I reflash builds my old apps reinstall (and only those that existed back when I had this option set on).
Any way to disable/delete those retroactively?
Do not sign into your google account when you're setting up the build at first, after its all set up, go into market and do it from there, or go to Accounts & Sync, and add your google account. It's because google's backed up most of your apps list onto their server.

That makes sense, as only recently I discovered how to set the wireless settings while installing the build, so that could be the X factor.
Thanks for helping me shed light on this

Check the sync settings for that account. Not sure about gummyJar, but some of the other gmail installs I've seen set the auto refresh off by default.
I've had problems with this in multiple ROMs as of late. I fix it each time by going to settings>applications>manage applications>gmail. I then clear the data and the cache for that app, go back to the app and hit refresh and it's no longer a problem.
A lot of the problem is that the apps aren't built in anymore. So you end up having to check your sync settings after installing gmail.
Please go into settings>applications>Manage applications>all
select gmail (or whatever other program you are running.
Under "Data" select "Clear data"
That should do it. Let us know.
yeah I went to settings>applications>Manage applications>all and cleared cache/data and still my phone is not syncing emails unless I manually press the refresh button. strange. all my settings are correct . Maybe I should remove my gmail account and see what happens?? Thanks for all the replies.
In Settings/System/Backup there is only the message "Backup service isn't active".
Same thing shows in Drive app settings under Backup and Reset
When I go to Settings/Google Account/Backup to try and turn it on, it just turns back off as soon as I leave the page.
New 6T running 9.0.11, no root, primary google a/c is a g suite manage a/c.
Any suggestions/help will be appreciated
Backup doesn't work on G Suite accounts. You need a normal @gmail.com-account for backup.
The phone also has other non gsuite should. Can I somehow turn it on using them?
I am pretty sure it worked on my lg v20 using the same accounts

Yes, if you choose that account for backup. That's how I do it using both G Suite and non-G-Suite accounts.
Thanks, but I can't seem to set it to backup into the non-gsuite account.
I tried from Drive (set to that account) and from Google accounts - no go.
How do I go about turning backup on for the non-gsuite account please ?

In Settings -> Google -> Backup. Click account and select your gmail.com]-account.
That's how I do it and it works as it should.
My primary account is also a G Suite-account.

That's what I thought, I have changed to a standard @gmail.com account, but the backup switch still goes off. There must be another factor or switch that is related. The switch goes blue and turns on, but when I hit the back and then look again, it is switched off. I am attaching two screenshots just in case there is something I am missing . Clearing Drive storage and cache didn't help, same with Backup Transport.
Second screenshot shows Drive message, and what happens when I try to change account
But I didn't get to this until late in the setup process, and I really really don't want to do a hard reset without even a backup.
Thanks for helping any other ideas?
That's a bummer. Try clearing cache/data of all Google apps, like Play Store, Services etc. hopefully something will resort the issue.

Thanks, I did that before I posted originally. If I delete the corporate account or the user account temporarily - what will be the effect on the apps/phone?
I am willing to try that even though the settings will all have to be redone.

Can't see anything bad happen. I would try it. Then just re-add it.
This is insane!
I go to playstore to check updates. It says "Error checking updates". I repeat the process and get frustrated. I clear data on playstore and go to add my account again only it brings up the side menu and when I move that out of the way, it says "try again". I hit that button and the menu slides back out! And I repeat this process and get frustrated.
So I did all the cache clearing, data clearing stuff for play, play services. I have no download manager. And still this problem.
I did not and will not remove and try to add my google account again because then I might lose access to my contacts. In fact, I haven't even checked if they still sync. If they don't, I suppose I could do that.
Other than that, what can I do?
This is the craziest thing I've ever seen.

Lol hello again sir
Go to www.gooogle.com/contacts
From any web browser, are your contacts in place?
Guessing you haven't but reboot your phone, cycle your WiFi and see if anything prompts you to sign in or sync.
Then go to settings/ accounts / Google and make sure it's allowed and syncing, check both sync and Google
Re-open Google play and see if it's working.
Oh and perhaps change WiFi to another or test on mobile data if you don't have a second signal to use.
=) Thanx for your help. I can get contacts in a browser. I rebooted a couple times, did wifi and mobile, and nothing. It syncs everything in the account as well. I just can't use play store. I cleared data and cache on playstore and services. And I can access play from a browser; so I didn't get banned or something. It's specific to this phone, it occurred sometime after the update to the latest firmware. I'm not sure if it's related.

Only thing I can think of would be to wipe all play services, store then reinstall.
This has happened before?
First time.... What is the best way to restore this stuff on the stock ROM w/o factory reset?

So you can usually clear data on all Google services.
But if that doesn't work then boot to recovery and just wipe system, not the whole phone.
This will mean you have to set up your phone again but your storage will remain unaffected. So images, files, music won't be touched
