Hello , I instaled eb13 via samsungs downloadable exe and the first time it was really laggy and buggy so I thn went into basic system recovery and iped data and such and then did it again and now I have an awesome smooth runnign froyo aside from the browser checkerboard and the video camera. Tghe browser I can deal with but what gives witgh the video camera? It is horrible when your moving quick its extremely blurry. This was not the case before and there is no real logical reason for the downgrade. I don't get it since I'm on a bug free froyo now. Anyone found a fix?
I have the same issue
Same here with the camera. Dunno about the browser as I use Dolphin HD.
The camera only presents the lag in low-light conditions it seems. It did not do that with DK28 or DI18.
Some users report not having this issue but do not mention low-light vs. high-light.
Ran update through Samsung's exe.
i've noticed this as well
Damn this sucks.....I lways braged to my girl that the recording was better vs her evo shift lol. Now its eaxctly the same. What a crock. I doubt they'll reease an update to fix it with there laz asses. I'm rlly just wondering if its an issue with the method of installing or eb13 in general and or if devs can fix it.
Yup, I didn't know I had this issue until coming across this thread. The video is fine in good light conditions but recording in low light produces blurry and bad video

YES, its all because of low lighting. I took a video today and the quality is AMAZING, I love my epic
except for the fact that now we can't saves picture messages. Once they fix that and the checker boarding on the browser--this phone is perfect.
I'm trying to remember if it was Sprint who released an update shortly after the Moment's camera fiasco (same thing..updated to 2.1 and camera went laggy) or if it was a developer who fixed it and released it on SDX.
Anyone else remember that?

to save picture messages, long press on the message and select "attached items." you can then check the item and hit save button to copy to sd
Same here in low light on highest res setting.

This an absolutley tragic problem ,lol. I have recorded outside and its still blury when moving so idk.
Would like to get this looked at asap....just switched from evo to epic for the camera and froyo......actually mostly for the keyboard I'm loving it..

Yeah, video recording is totally screwed up. The framerate drops along with the lighting/increased ISO. My room is dimly lit right now, and I can point it at my monitor and it records at a nice smooth framerate, but as soon as I pan over to a dimly lit area of the room, the framerate tanks to like no higher than 5 fps. I didn't expect EB13 to be much if any better than DK28, but so far it's worse. How can Samsung drops the ball every time, and they spent how many months working on this update?
Im really having no problems after wiping data and cache and all that and then flashing besides this problem with the camera. It seems to be a problem for 95% of us. How did the other 5% not get this problem lol.

Here's what I think is going on with the video problems:
I've looked at videos I shot on Eclair, and in low light it just didn't have any sensitivity at all. Anything below an average room lighting was just pitch black. But, the video stayed smooth.
On Froyo the camera app appears to try to reduce the frame rate to increase the sensitivity of the camera. You can see images in VERY dark environments, but with only a few frames a second.
Neither option is very good but I think I like dark video over 4 frames a second.
I'm guessing there is a hidden parameter somewhere that controls this. Something like a mimimum ISO setting.
Yea its a pain in the ass because of what it considers low light. I live in an old house so evenwith the lights on where I can see everything with my eyes the camera decides that its low ligt. So basically to have reg freamerates I have to be in a warehouse or outside in the sun? This is not acceptable lol. I like to take videos out and about at night and at concerts wich is usually dark.....as well as at m home of my daughter and now I can't. Hopefully your right and it meanss someone can go in there and change it back.

The camcorder lags in low light because the shutter rate of the camera has to slow down in order to capture the image. The shutter rate is how many times the shutter has to open and close in order to take in light to make an image. On a nice sunny day outdoors, the light sensor can easily take in the light. Hence, you get a high shutter rate. Sometimes up to 1/5000 depending on the camera.
When you're shooting in low light situations, the sensor has to be open long enough in order to take in enough light to make an image. Thus, the shutter rate decreases to about 1/10 or so. When the shutter rate decreases, your camera can make a nice low light picture... but you get blur, grain, and what looks like a slower frame rate.
So, this camcorder "lag" you speak of in low light is NORMAL. It's inherent to all video cameras in low light. If you want a better image... get some lights!
If the low light performance on the camcorder was better with a different build, like in DI18, they probably locked the shutter rate at about 1/30 in order to keep a good framerate, but the low light performance wouldn't be as good as you have now.
TL/DR: It's normal. They just reduced the shutter speed so you can get a BETTER image in low light. Want a better image? Film in better lighting!
Edit: What Samsung should do to fix this is to lock the shutter rate at about 1/30. You won't get a good low light image, but the motion will be consistent. Seems to me you guys want good motion and not a good image. You can't have both in low light situations. You have to choose one or the other.
Thanks for your expert advice.....but we'll wait to hear back from someone that actually writes code

Wrong. You failed to understand the issue. This eb13 has either flawed drivers or the wrong ones. The dk28 froyo beta works flawlessly. I personally tested both builds. This is a programmers error that should be patched soon. When the patch is given, it should work as good as eclair or dk28.

It appears that on the older builds the camera gained up to deal with lower light situations. On the current build it slows the frame rate (not the shutter rate) even normal indoor lighting. You shouldn't do that with video. This would be fine on a still camera but totally unacceptable in video, even amateur video taken with a cell phone.

Theres nothing wrong about what he said. He said that the programmers did it. They locked the shutter rate in DI18, to prevent lag. It just causes a lower quality video. The videos in low light were darker in DI18, but faster. Which is what he is saying.

The shutter rate slows down the GOP, but the frame rate remains constant.
It's not "normal". If you're really a video editor, you'd know that. Being able to explain an effect doesn't make it "normal".
That's like saying "I can explain your cancer. Cancer is just when cells mutate and crowd out other cells. It happens to a lot of people. It's perfectly normal!"
Phone sensors are smaller and therefore not as sensitive to light as sensors in professional or even semi-professional cameras. (Larger sensors can capture more light; just the laws of physics.) So image quality on phones is always a compromise.
However, the solution to this lack of light-gathering ability should not be to hold the shutter open for such a long time that it ruins the frame rate. That's cutting off your nose to spite your face. And no one should accept it.
I think we are all fine with a little graininess in the artificially boosted low-light images from our Epic camcorders as long as it means we have a stable frame rate. This is the way every other low-end camera works and it's the way this phone used to work, and should still work.

Fine, I figure everyone is aware of the bug. Go to a very dark room and launch the camcorder. Maybe turn on the tv so that's the only light source. Now pan around the room. You see that god awful blur? That's because the camera is barely pushing 5 fps. Compare that to eclair or dk28, in which keeps a steady healthy 30 fps with absolutely no frame drops.

correct. Being a pro photographer should hint him that its not normal. But we ask make mistakes. Just like samsung or sprint made resulting in what we are experiencing. Btw, sprint acknowledges the camera bug aswell.
It would be nice if they could just make options like the gain user adjustable so that we could tailer that setting to whatever lighting environment we're in....like the iso on a still cam.
I know that before when I had DK28, my videos would not capture past 3 seconds, I would get a message saying Recording Failed. With the new build this doesnt happen.

There's an option to free record and to limit for MMS. However, I've had recording fail a few times on DK28 when I was on free record. I figured I had too many programs running in the background.
I've recorded a few times at varying lengths in EB13 and haven't had any problems so far.
The point is, something that worked fine before, (smooth video recording indoors) doesn't work now. It's not normal, anyone who has seen it can tell it's not normal.

Samsung probably wanted you to get the best picture out of your camera and lowered the shutter speed to not add any artificial gain.
It's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Add gain and people complain about grain and artifacts. Slow down the shutter rate and get slower playback. Don't shoot the messenger here!

Here is a video I shot of one of my DJ friends in low light using only the camera flash as the light source on my phone (along with the various disco/club lights). Even in low light, the frame rate was very smooth.
After the EB13 update, the fps is horrible and I would never be able to shoot this same video in the phone's current state.

From my experience, the pictures look quite bad when viewing them on the Xoom (via the gallery app), but once you offload them and look at them on the computer they look quite good. Do you have auto-focus turned on in the camera settings, and are you holding down the shutter long enough to let it focus? You may accidentally have the camera set to not focus or be in macro mode, which would lead to quite the blurry picture.
Offload some of ur pics onto a computer and see if they still seem blurry.
FWIW it seems like macro shots are the only ones that actually look half-decent on the Xoom itself.

Thanks for the suggestion. This actually shows the pictures clearly. Wonder whatsup with the stock Gallery app?
also keep in mind that a tablet is not the optimal platform for taking pics. Image stabilization, while good, cannot work miracles and the tablet form factor is not the easiest to hold steady while taking a pic....
Quality is just OK, my phone is far better for taking pictures.. I didn't expect much from a tablet anyways..

I love everything about the Nexus 4 except the camera. The autofocus is having serious trouble unless you have a LOT of light. Compared to other smartphones, it seems to be broken. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, I've used 2 Nexus 4's, so I'm sure this is a software issue. Have any past Nexus devices had similar issues and been fixed?
Thanks!
I don't have that problem. Both with normal and HDR mode. In HDR mode it can be blurry, but not because out-of-focus but rather because my hands move while the phone still taking the picture (it takes more than one picture to create a HDR picture)
Also, I do notice that even in normal mode the camera actually takes longer to take the picture than one would expect, so usually holds your hand steady for a few extra seconds do the trick.
I hope that helps.

+1. My N4 16GB refuses to take any macro shots. The auto focus keeps engaging and is extremely annoying. The video recording seems ok, but the picture taking is atrocious.
I think I'm getting the same thing... but then, I started to think maybe it was psychological. You know, the circle showing you constant auto focusing? It moves so much, it makes you feel the "focus bouncing" much more than it would do if all you saw was the picture being focused only.
Well, that's my theory, anyways.
Any 'fix' for this?

I was trying to take a picture of my old Sensation XE to put on ebay but the N4 just wont focus well enough, it constantly focuses and refocuses. Its hugely frustrating and disappointing for a phone this powerful. Has anybody had any success perhaps with different software? There doesnt seem to be any kind of 'macro mode' built into the JB app?
Yes, I find the camera to be bad too, especially the autofocus that fails to focus on objects that are further away.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Unless you are using tap to focus... if the camera is refocusing it is because your hands are not steady, which most likely is also the reason your shots are blurry.
I have noticed that the default program tends to set shutter speeds low to get the ISO down, but anything under 1/60th is going to take steady hands or a tripod. Consider using action mode to tell the camera you want it to use higher shutter speeds (but be aware this will cause more noise in low light due to higher ISO settings).
I've noticed this alot, when I try and take a close up photo, say of a phone, with the flash on, I use touch to focus and the flash turns on for a split second, and the green circle comes up saying it's focused, when it's badly out of focus, it seems to be a bit better with the flash off, but I've noticed the best improvement, whilst still not great, is pressing the shutter button before it focuses, so no ring on the screen, then it seems to have more luck focusing.
I honestly haven't had any problem with this. I have noticed the flash turning on briefly when focusing in low-light conditions, but the resulting pictures turn out fine.
Dunno if this will help, but someone on another thread suggested holding down (basically long-pressing) the capture button, waiting for the camera to focus, then releasing when you actually want to take the picture.
I don't have this issue either. Sorry to go a little off-topic but what is 'HDR'?

High dynamic range. The camera uses multiple exposures of the same image to generate more levels from shadows to hilights.
I think the problem lies in the new Camera app in 4.2. I had this same problem with my Galaxy Nexus when I updated to 4.2 so I reverted back to 4.1.
Now with Nexus 4 the problem seems to presist, but only when trying to focus very close.
the issue I have is with PA (so maybe not hardware related), but videos don't focus, only the camera function (unless I've not worked out how).

Very helpful, was having same issue (no autofocus) with the wonderful PA ROM on the (so far) fun Nexus 4.
Only real issue I've had with it so far, good to be past it (hard to know where to look).
Clearly I have no idea what radio even means, time to read.

Must be software related...I have the same issue with my nexus 3. Completely unable to take photos at certain distances...
Or is mine bad?!? Seriously, is no one else getting this problem with blown highlights and over-exposure, or are y'all accepting it? I bought this phone for its "superior camera" and while yes it can take pictures in low light I was not willing to give up taking good pictures in good lighting >8(
I installed Android Revolution 8, then 9, to get the "updated" camera- stock kernel, Dev. Ed.
Attached photo taken with stock camera with auto settings, no custom settings, no hdr (though that has been disappointing as well). Oh and white balance was about 5-800 Kelvin too yellow as well... (sigh)
So do I send it back to get cameras as good as everyone else's or start watching the Sony rumors again? Because my 18 month old Galaxy Note could get this picture right...

If you want realy good pictures you need to buy a good standalone camera..
The time isnt still there (and will be for along time) before phone cameras can compete with good standalone cameras...
I also find the camera disappointing. I love the software features like Zoe, but I personally can't rely on this camera to quickly capture a good picture. And I don't think the low light performance is very good either.

Those pictures do not look nearly as good as pictures I have taken with mine, using stock settings. Here's a couple for example. The pictures look a lot better in original format as well in full resolution.

I love this camera, it lacks the raw specs but it manages to capture those special moments very well, better than even a camera.
The camera has impressed me so far, especially the speed and the amazing colours.

What were u expecting from a phone camera?
If you want realy good pictures you need to buy a good standalone camera..
The time isnt still there (and will be for along time) before phone cameras can compete with good standalone cameras...

John, my expectations are to not move BACKWARD in quality. Trust me I carry my X100 half the time, but the other half this phone was supposed to fill in and it doesn't cut it.
It's your phone also blowing highlights and having white balance problems? I'm trying to understand if this behavior is typical or not.

The overexposure thing is a little annoying it's true. HDR mode seems to recover lost shadow detail but doesn't seem to help with blown-out highlights.
Setting contrast to +1 is definitely *not* going to help it.
When you know there will be difficult highlights, setting exposure to -1 in normal non-HDR mode seems like the only response. Not ideal I know. Especially when making such a simple, temporary adjustment requires a lot of fiddling around with menus.
Yep, been playin with my camera all day, had no work in. Found the adjustment settings werent fine enough - swung too much one way or the other on +/- 1.
And indoor pictures where theres any daylight showing (doors/windows etc) caused the images to be washed out, even when focused on the lightest part first.
I think the hardware is fine, just some software improvements are needed. So its not all bad.

Hello yes it have the white balance problems sometimes..
I think they need to finetune the software better..
But it can also make some nice pictures too...
But a fine tuned software would be great..

By the way this was a simple picture i took out of my window..
Here i like the shadow detail and the natural look of it..
The camera does over expose yes. If you want an easy to use camera. Get the S4/iPhone 5.
Can you control, ISO, shutter speed, Exposure compensation?
Turn ISO off automatic and set it to like 50

ISO & exposure yes, you can, and even better if you want to monkey with settings for every shot I recommend FV-5 which I use frequently
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5mbGF2aW9uZXQuYW5kcm9pZC5jYW1lcmEucHJvIl0.
The point of my post though is not to find workarounds but to see if this is COMMON, or my camera chip has issues.
I'm puzzled by the lack of complaints out there and feel like the photo I posted was a good example of average sunny day conditions, done badly. Indoors, low light, we're fine, it's the sunny days that are the issue.
Everyone quiet means either
a) everyone is accepting poor quality sunny day photos
b) my camera has issues and everyone else's is fine
c) everyone is feeling a little bit bad that the camera they were promised would offer 'a great leap in the quality of point-and-shoot photos and video' (http://www.htc.com/www/zoe/) frankly isn't, and reluctant to say so, or
d) other?
So everyone shooting sunny day pics please chime, in I appreciate your input- if your pics are coming out great without clipping I'll start the RMA process, or if yours are getting blown I'll fire up the angry fan-boi machine and pester every HTC channel I can hit with requests for a camera update.
Cheers,
Dave
The latter option.
I second, go for the latter

I have posted few times in this forum about disappointing camera or my expectation is too high. Maybe the next HTC software update would fix them. I like the speakers though which is undeniable to be the best.
Camera is superb.
But it's not all things to all men. If you prepared to fanny around with lighting, settings, angles etc for a photo, and expect a high res masterpiece, this isn't your bag. If you want a point and shoot camera which takes nr unbeatable pictures quickly, then this is it.
Mega bright lights will screw any photo up. Your picture is remarkable given the phone was able to cope at all.

First of all I would like to say I LOVE this phone, its the best Android phone I have used thus far and I came from the HTC one, S4, and note 2.
Now here is whats making me insane, lg imposes this extreme low light processing which causes the image to become brighter at night, now thats completely fine with images I don't mind it, but with video seeing as we can't disable it, it makes videos taken during lowlight/indoor lighting horrid, any movement introduced causes blur and ghosting (even under the 1080p 60fps mode). I also have an iphone 5s and while the video is definitely darker, there is no issue with blur or ghosting.
This is not a bug, it is not a malfunction, its a feature that LG imposes on the camera, I was just wondering if there was some way to disable it from activating. If you guys don't understand what I mean I can make videos to show you the difference.

There is a modded camera you can use in order to fix the video low light (low frames) issues.Must have root tho and recovery in order to do so.

I hope lg eventually decided to give us the option to choose, basically decrease exposure to get better fps in low light. I prefer to keep my devices unrooted so I don't loose OTA updates but I'm glad that someone actually fixed it. If it gets too annoying I might eventually root
