Ok, guys...you heard me right!!! George Hotz (aka Geohot) has said in his blog (http://geohot.com/) that he has every intention to get his hands on the Xperia Play so we all have a jailbroken PSP phone!! I hope this means that with the help from Geohot we will have what we need to get out X10's bootloader cracked.
Here's the quote:
I will be the first person in line on the launch date of the Xperia Play, and itching to get my hands on the Next GEOHOT Project.
You mean root, not jailbreak
He doesn't even mean rooting he means cracking the bootloader... Lol this site makes me laugh fairly frequently.
I do mean root, but Geohot always calls his work "jailbreak" so that's what it will be called....and from what I can tell, he will not stop at rooting when the bootloader also needs cracking. So really, this would go beyond just root access if he's also cracking the bootloader.
He also rooted the PS3, but search for 'PS3 root' and 'PS2 jailbreak' and see which returns more results.
Awesome.! But wait..... oh yeah... x10 is just old and im getting a new phone next month...
lol i suggested he do this.....have the email in my sentbox and everything (a few weeks ago)

Less than a year for a phone is old? Maybe for consumer sheep.. No wonder the world is in the state it is, we allow ourselves to be raped and pillaged by capitalist greed, and instead of focusing on what is really going on, we worry about getting a new model phone every 8 or 9 months..

Back to the topic... Those are good news. And when Geohot says "jailbreaking" I think he means to actually crack the bootloader.

Any news if he will crack the x10 bootloader?

You know, I have been wondering this for a little bit. How do you think Sony will implement the playstation integration into the play? If it is just an app, like a psp emulator (seems too simple to be the case) then would there be a chance to port and mod it (to accept touchscreen input instead of hardware input)?
It may be possible to get playstation open to all android devices, I would love to see that.
I sort of expected to find an android app that would allow you to connect to ps3 in SOME way, but I haven't seen anything other than the crappy PSN app...no unofficial apps even (except for ps3brew)
Geohot is a freaking loser.
hmmm well cause of his "help" ps3 owners (like me) can be banned from PSN just like 360 users (again like me xD)
remember he's being sued by Sony so maybe telling I will do this will alert Sony

Hey genius, he's in the middle of a lawsuit with Sony and he posted that on his blog that's got over 300,000 followers. I think they already know
And if you don't want to get banned, don't install CFW or don't cry when you get banned. Why are people just crybabies about online?? "oh noes!!!!!! I can't play video games all day with my loser 'friends' online....I'm gonna cry about it some more"
This part is for everyone:
Sony is also being sued for removing otherOS from the console because it was originally marketed as a stock feature. People paid for the console with the expectations of being able to use linux, then were threatened with the loss of other features (like the ability to watch bluray movies) if they didn't update, which removed the option to install linux, then took the partition on the hard drive dedicated to linux and wiped it clean. The worst part is this: 40gb consoles, for example, were sold with a 20gb ps3 partition, and a 20gb linux partition....when otherOS was removed, it rendered the linux partition completely useless. The partition was not added to the PS3 partition, but rather lost....so if you bought a 40gb console, after the v3.21 update you owned a 20gb console. All I have to say is "what the ****, sony????"
sorry, double post

Oh yeah, I didn't know this, but good, they deserve it, this was a big feature for me.
It was ether update... or have a pretty useless system...
Yeah, this counter-suit was brought on by geohot himself as a civil suit (The People vs Sony Computer Entertainment) and he's gone into amazing detail on specifically what grounds he is suing them on in his blog. It's a very interesting read if you have about a half hour to kill.

I don't think it would be as easy as porting over the OS and then being free to download games onto an unsupported tablet - sure its HC but I'm fairly confident Sony will have something in place to check the hardware.
If that's the case then it would be pointless to port it over if you can't actually get legit games for it. It would then mean the only purpose it would serve would be to play pirated games (whether you own a legitimate Sony game or not).
Will it happen? Maybe... if Sony doesn't put major hardware checks in place. Would it be worth it? Only to pirates.

Even if Sony puts hardware checks in place, I'm sure it'll be bypassed quickly, I mean its Sony. Lol. Anyhow, if you actually own the discs, their plasystation emu was recently hacked to play ISO images of PS games, so you can just copy your CD to your computer. No piracy involved.

Dude, what-are-you-talking-about? Nobody gives a rats ass about old PS1 emulator that was finally release somewhere nears the end of its lifecycle. The PS1 was built and released at a time when this kind of things was nowhere nears as prevalent.
Now you're talking about a state of the art tablet from Sony (who btw are notorious for hardware checks) and you say "I means it's Sony. lol" like you know what you're talking about?

...and your point is?
Obviously people give a rats ass about Sony's PS emulator, otherwise they wouldnt care about putting it on their new phones and making a PlayStation branded phone. The OP obviously cares and I care too! Sure Android games might look a little better than PS games, but there's nowhere near as much depth to any game on the android market. I wanna play me some final fantasy 7!
Sony is retarded, and the devs and hackers here are genius. If you can't see that after what's happened this year alone, then you've been blinded by your Sony fanaticism. The devs will rip apart any "state of the art" tablet from Sony and make it their ***** within a week of getting it.
Pirates are not people.
Even if it could be ported (which I'm sure it won't be) If you couldn't play legit games on the port, whats the point in overwriting your tablets supported ROM with a ROM that has no legit use?
I'm pretty confident it would be a pointless affair.
and there is already playstation android.... emulator.
Sony will have an android rom ????

@[email protected] nice idea
i am waiting for the announcement of pre-order Sony S1...............
Just a quick note,
I ported the S tablet rom to iconia a500 yesterday, and everything initially looked fine, it was really simple. BUT!
the part which is used for Sony Store and PS compatibility of PS1 games, was protected with a bootloader check, when this fails everything else gets disabled somehow.
so i doubt we will see this port, unless someone start cracking the S rom, which is kinda very much illegal since you start modifying alot and sony's binaries needs changing?
anyways, i tried and i happily failed i do not want to crack it.
I've played with the S1, it's actually pretty slick, and I wish I would have waited. I love my Acer, but the Sony is just, reallllly cool. The built in IR remote that gets it's programming over the air, is a pretty slick idea as well.
Minecraft Pocket Edition was just released on the Android Market and is only available for the Xperia Play. I for one can't wait for the game, so if you are going to buy it can you please extract the .apk for other handset users? I'd really appreciate it and I'm sure others will too!
Problem is, if someone extracts the APK and shares it here, it would be considered as warez and shot down. No go there.
you should just wait for it to become available for your device.. it will soon..
Damn I forgot about that Oh well, I guess I can wait. I wish it was free since I bought the full game for PC. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for the up that it have been released!

Yes, people who buy old games which have been amorticized more times than man can count should not be forced to pay YET ANOTHER TIME for the same content. It's what we call added-value. If you wish to pay time and time again for the same game, you're free to write a cheque to the company you want.
If it were for people like you, we'd have to pay for a song everytime we wish to listen to it in a different place: In the car, in the stereo player, In the MP3 player... Again, write cheques to those guys if you want, but let us consumers look for the best value, and demand the best conditions for our money.

The people who don't make the emulators for Sony Ericsson do it for free (desktop emulators like EPSXE or PCSX) or for little cash (FPSE, which costs the same as ONE game by Sony Ericsson). Plus, the content, as I said, is amorticized from dozens to millions of times. If the world works with Sony screwing up consumers it's because of consumers like you who like to be screwed. Sony will only do as much as we let them get away with. If consumers like you start to educate themselves (a hardly possible task) and/or get replaced with conscious consumers, we'll get no more killing OtherOS, no more killing retrocompatibility, and no more multiple-cash-ins for the same content. However, as long as people like you say that it rains when they're pissing on us, certainly Sony will keep malarkeying us.

No Sony will open the pandoras box... they will defend their own stuff. Lock the Bootloader for sure, and introduce encryption. Why?
We all know that Sony for years didn't give to its child SE one thing... Playstation Sources... nobody in the world can emulate PS2/PSP as good as their own creator... we all know that theoretically wise todays phones are PS2 capable if PSP Vita is PS3 graphics capable at the moment... imagine, if your stock Android could run all PSP/PS2 legacy just with proper efficient recompiler? SE experimented with Xperia Play and stepped on Sony's foot, and seems Sony didn't like it, as it can ruin their business with PSP line(inner competition).
Style? Yeah for sure... it was and it will be... SONY has the best design by default... nobody can touch them in that department...

You're spouting a lot of rumor and opinion as truth.
From what I hear ericsson was the dead weight in that relationship, holding up development and making poor choices.
I think we will in the end see this as a very positive move.
I really think Sony knows better than to bury themselves like you are implying.
Soon, someone is going to make a misinformed post about the whole Sony/PS3/GeoHot thing and how that relates to this situation...
EDIT:
Which it doesn't, of course.
U know no means to connect PS3 to android its completely different sony made PS3 and its firmware and they want to sell games and keep away piracy from PS3 to earn money...
In android I think its a rule to atleast release the kernel sources...
And they don't want to loose money they are here to earn money and they see every means and techniques to earn money and they will definitely not lock their devices down to loose their money by losing their costumers...
The prices I think will definitely raise

I think they will improve their product as they can in order to compete in the market. And Sony's software policy is the same on each platform. Android is not an excuse.
And... We are not objective mates... we are just a bunch of geeks, and mere customers doesn't care about locked/unlocked bootloaders. We are nothing more than a mere minority of the market... definitely not the one on whom money could be made!(except of the habit bricking phones)
No matter what Ericsson is dead again... it is the second time Although its original Semiconductor part is doing great... its next gen CPU is present even on Chinas HTC Sensation(Due TD-SCDMA) and new NovaTHOR platform sounds very good, so we wont forget the name so soon.
The Biggest looser in the market is that old rubber boot maker... SE because the plain redesign using faster CPU, minimized the costs for R/D and etc development to establish new generation of phones for fall season... instead of NOKIA throwing out endless rubbish...

To not forget that they sued George Hotz, also called GeoHot.
And then the reason why they took OtherOS-function away, they stated that it was a "security risk to not have a anti virus" and that everyone perhaps wasn't "aware" of that and yeah, everything is just lies when it comes to Sony, no wonder they have to cut down on their TV-selling and produce less number of TVs and more on.
And they don't have any nice support at all.
And what is ridiculous is that they took the most bad hardware-specs they could have found for an 2011-device for Xperia Play and the fact that Xperia Play has the most limited RAM in the 2011 Xperia-line is laughable for sure.
And they have never been that nice to us customers, and I believe this is the last nail in the coffin for me with Sony and me, it's not just working to have sale arguments that hang loose and playing with customers.
And to not forget the Playstation SDK that was in beta-stage for a long time ago that isn't stable yet, it disturbs me, the community for Playstation-certified devices was dead before it even was born as it seems according to how Sony are threating their customers as we are just a playground for their market and nothing that they see as that important.
And I have give up on Sony about that they are making improvements in their relation to the market that they are selling their products to, since I still feel that it was a bad move for Sony and their lawyers to totally turn the hacking-scene for PS3 upside down since I never had as an intention to get games for free, but I liked the feature of not have to run signed code and that you was free to do other stuff as well, and you could run Linux on it and have XBMC on it and have own themes, have a backup-manager and load the games without an ISO if you have a bunch of games for the console and everything I wanted and was given from Sony, they just took it away just like that, assuming that everybody's intention was to get everything for free.
And it's much more that I dislike about Sony, just look at this sound-curve
(From Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray compared with iPhone 3GS):
http://st.gsmarena.com/vv/reviewsimg/se-c901/gsmarena_a001.png
And it's just so many faults that Sony has done that I dislike them for, and I won't contribute with buying something more from them as a customer, since they give us products that has potential, but instead of working with that potential and take benefit of those potentials, then they instead take the potentials away and kill their own creations, time after time, and I have really liked them, and I liked their PS1, I have PLENTY of games for it, and I liked their PS2 as well and I have even more games to that, and I really liked them and was sure for having the PS2 when it was released, but then the PS3 came, my thoughts went like "It's so expensive, should I buy it or should I go for an XBOX 360" and I thought that I had to buy the PS3 since I used to like Sony's Playstation-concept, but it turned out that my bet was on the wrong machine, I should had go for the XBOX 360.
And after giving Sony their 2nd try now with a product that I thought would fall between the chairs, it turned out that I was right, and after those experiences with the whole Playstation-certification, overpriced hardware-specs and the very to late Playstation Suite SDK, that will make me not to choose Sony ever again, the focus on the customers seems to be equal with zero.
And this is just another sad chapter in Sony's history according to me.
To not forget that all the Xperia Play development-devices that Sony had at shows had an HDMI-port that could mirror the display to the TV, and was later on removed duo to, according to Sony/Sony Ericsson themselves it was laggy, well, I don't think they spooked the whole truth, since the device had the ports at other positions compared to todays devices that we have, those development devices must had another SoC, GPU, amount of RAM and more with way higher specs and I think Sony took lower performing parts with an meaning and for reasons.
Like one reason about the fact that it would had been to expensive to produce in larger scales with a good profit as well per sold device.
And yeah, I could go on like this forever, but I think it's 'nuff said, I'm no longer loyal to Sony as they have spitted me among many other customers in our faces too many times before, and yeah, I see this as an end of an book called "my life with Sony"
Dont forget what they did to graf, they went gang busters on him

It's just sad to see a company this lost, they don't even know how to stand up on their own, and they have never knew.
And this time I bet that they are going to fail even more with the PS-certification-idea and the concept of a smart-phone with gaming performance.
Perhaps we will maybe see the same shell of the Xperia Play but with the other equipment that the Sony-engineers had with the HDMI-output or MHL-capable USB, but it depends on how lost Sony feel I believe.
And one thing I know for sure is that, even if it stands HTC on the device, I won't buy it and let Sony make a profit out of me again, hope they just don't spread their dirt to HTC.
And may I ask for the source so I can read some more around the news perhaps?
Thanks in advance.
Friendly regards RazerBlader
I should have never switched from HTC to Sony Ericson at the first place.
Damn. Gamepad.
But, seriously I hope HTC decides to release a phone with a dedicated gamepad with this shiny new PS certificate.

I like how there was no mention of the Play when they talk about bringing gaming to Android. It's like the shameful bastard child that lives in the attic . If you watch the conference, the HTC announcement pretty much kills any possibility of a Play2 so now we can finally lay those to rest.

I don't see it happening. They released the phone+gamepad and it didn't go so well. It doesn't seem cost effective anymore to add a gamepad which we know has issues with ICS. HTC will probably keep the handset thin and lightweight using on-screen controls.

oh sony
you should be hones from firs and tell us that you can't support your products ...
i wish samsung or HTc had game expedience like sony , i'm sure they support was better than sony-liar
I highly doubt Sony will allow HTC to create a phone with a dedicated game pad. I believe they will want to keep that idea in house, the playstation certification is just allowing ps store and ps pocket for their new devices, similar to the Xperia s
Not that it matters, everything announced from last years e3 concerning phones turned out to be vapourware
I have never cared for HTC or its sense UI. I realize there are probably more fans of HTC's sense UI then any other UI overlay. That aside I would love it if every manufacturer made at least 1 phone a year with stock vanilla android. And a for HTC with the Play mobile. I dont see them making a gamepad phone anytime soon. Remember HTC announce some months ago that people preferred thin phones over phones with big batteries. Personally I like the slight chubbiness of the PLAY, yeah its thicker then most phones but then with the gamepad I think its just right. So I really do not see a gamepad+phone from HTC if they are sticking to the "thin is in" routine.
What will happen to our beloved Xperia Play ?

THIS gamepad has issues with ICS, and the original programming and setup of the phone. Doesn't mean it can't be done with a new pad designed for ICS from the ground up.
Not holding my breath though

Will continue to kick ass! HTC with PlayStation is like the NXT Xperia phones. PlayStation experiences on non-PlayStation devices.

Sony has already resigned it to the dustbin. In hindsight, it was foolish to believe that Sony could make a device which was equally good at gaming and being a smartphone.
I'm going to keep the PLAY as a decent handheld emulator and buy a phone which sole purpose is to be a great smartphone (HTC One X?).

At around 1:44 in that clip you can hear how he says "and we are going to leave that feature", so don't dream to much about something more like this.
But then I see more why they change their name from PS suite to PS Mobile so that it will fit in even more into their new thinking, and as a positive effect to see them deliver this PS pocket for every brand is that they don't have to develop everything on their own.
And you can practically say that they are giving away their own trademark (Playstation) for free (with a cost for the certification of course) and throw it like a bone at the community so they maybe get some development for free(?)
And get their trademark even more respectable, and perhaps you will see more real game-pads in the future, but not from Sony themselves perhaps, at least as I somehow manage to turn the facts around xP
And (the last and ) if it someday comes out an HTC with a real physical game-pad, PS certificate and real potential hardware added to the receipt, then I wouldn't doubt to get it since HTC seems to be more aware of how they wanna delight their customers with development and updates, so maybe that could be Sonys rescue in the long race, to let every other manufacturer have a taste of the Playstation-trademark in their devices
