[HOw To] I have rooted my Legend 2.2 by these steps - Legend General

Hi all,
first of all i would like to thk this forum for a complete guidance.
i had a legend running 2.2 HBoot 1.01 and tried several days for a one click root.found that it was not possible.
so i downgraded to 2.1 and followed theses steps:
1. http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/13/how-to-downgrade-the-htc-legend-to-1-31-so-it-can-be-rooted/
2.http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-legend/
3.http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-legend/
in all the steps above my Hboot remained 1.01 and even now im in 1.01 with S-ON.
i have loaded many custom roms available in the market and as you know all custom roms are rooted. but, to make the system rw, i have loaded custom kernel and used aufs_no kernel [a system overlay tool] which you can see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773278
so, finally you will be in HBoot 1.01 with S-ON and rooted, system r/w partition.[sounds funny, but im using it and njoying]. Im using font changer, root uninstaller, can delete stock apps etc..
Always REMEMBER to use FRESH GENERATED GOLDCARD.Goldcard generation tool attached.

Wow, thanks! This will be useful when my friend needs help with rooting his Legend.

i have 2.2 and HBOOT 1.01.0 and the (http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/13/how-to-downgrade-the-htc-legend-to-1-31-so-it-can-be-rooted/)
didn't work at all to me ...

the only prob you could face is with goldcard. try formatting ur sd card afresh and make a clean new gold card with the tool attached.

Can I ask, what is a gold card for?

how to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1
plzzz help

go to this link and read carefully and create a fresh goldcard with atachment provided.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/13/how-to-downgrade-the-htc-legend-to-1-31-so-it-can-be-rooted/
Be patient and do the steps one by one.
you will succeed.

Partitioning and applying Radio/SPL/SuperD

Hi.. I've spent alot of hours researching, rooting and installing SenseHero 1.6 onto my unbranded 32A HTC Hero, and now i want to change the ROM to something else.
I want to use Super D ROM with the Elegance theme.
Super D:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613809
Elegance Theme:
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633043
-
I stumbled onto an error when trying to apply the Radio spl thingy (Failure at line 2...) and from what i read i think it's because my sd card isn't partitioned correctly.
I also got the same error when trying to apply Damage Control ROM, what does it mean ?
? Just to be sure i've rooted it.. When i open up the recovery menu with Home+Power button and it says "AmonRa 1.5.2", and i've been able to apply SenseHero ROM does that mean it's rooted?
? Do i need to partition my SD card, and how would i go about that?
This is what im doing:
1. Boot to AmonRa 1.5.2 Recovery
2. Apply ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip (renamed to update.zip) <-- Stuck here
3. Reboot to Recovery
4. Apply spl-signed.zip (renamed to SPL.zip)
5. Reboot to Recovery
6. Apply SuperD-ROM.zip (renamed to ROM.zip)
...
7. Install EleganceDesign.zip (??? How do i install this ???)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, is Super D the right ROM for me ? I'm mainly choosing it because of the Elegance Theme.. I need an allround nice ROM.. SenseHero seems ok, but i can't help but think other ROM's have more to offer.. Tho speed is most important!
Pardon my nubby questions, im still learning
Many thanks
-Mojo_69
duhh.. I've just realized that 2.1 is out.. But my question remains.. Which is the best ROM, with 2.1...?

There is no such thing as a "32A" Hero! Presumably you have a Magic/Sapphire, so I suggest you post in those forums - flashing a ROM that you find in this forums is probably a very quick way of bricking your device.
Regards,
Dave
I think there is a way to allow a 32A magic to act like a hero but have no idea how it works.
Post on the correct forum and you will get a better answer.

[REQUEST] Can anyone write a guide for Unrooting

Its only going to be a matter of time before people will need to send phones back under warranty for whatever reasons so a guide for unrooting will be needed.
Any takers?
G2 already has one, but obviously we will need different rom/hboot etc to go back to our stock.
Not just unrooting, but going completely back to stock, i.e. S-ON and stock ROM.
As you say, we should be able to base it on this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971
Although we have several different stock ROMs, e.g. European, Asian, Vodafone UK, etc.
this is already covered in the FAQ (easy tutorial @ dev forum)

That just says to use Visionary to turn off rooting. Or did I miss something ?
As I said, I think we need to cover how to return a phone completely to stock, and I don't think it includes all that you'd really need to do, or if you didn't use Visionary in the first place, e.g. the kind of stuff in the G2 post that I linked.

It does say to flash an RUU to S-ON which in the past I would have said would work, but seeing how the G2 forums are not suggesting that its that simple my guess would be that its not that simple.
I had to flash the PC10img thing taken from the stock ROM to restore root and s-on. But no idea how to extract that PC10img thing, not that I have looked into it either.
That info was from one of the guides in the dev section I'm sure.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
What might work now will probably not work once an OTA update comes out for the DZ though, as per the problem on the G2 they've had which has led to quite a few semi-bricks (possibly full bricks in some cases ?).
Done some research, it would seem that flashing an RUU would work fine for those of us already rooted, if an OTA were to come out those who rooted after the OTA would have issues unless an RUU for the same OTA was released as well. (this is basically because the RUU's currently available will be older than the software the phone is on so the RUU would fail leaving you with a semi-bricked phone as described above, basically it would flash stock hboot and recovery then fail to flash the /system so you would be left with no root or recovery and no rom.
Flashing the ruu would give rise to accepting the OTA too, if you really wanted to do that, but it might block root.
you just need the RUU for your correct original phone version
OR use a gold card
eg. I have debranded mine from bell NAM 1.34.666.5 to euro generic 1.34.405.5
To go back to stock, I can:
1.- grab the bell 1.34.666.1 RUU (its slightly previous, but is the correct original version for my phone)
OR
2.- run the euro generic 1.34.405.5 with a golcard inserted

Yes thats what I was getting at in my post above, any RUU you flash needs to be of the same or newer version of what your previously flashing. You cannot GoldCard to flash an RUU to S-ON or you get left with the semi-brick where you have stock recovery and hboot, but no rom installed.
So if an OTA comes out, you can't accept it, s-off then use an older RUU to s-on again. You would have to flash an RUU of that OTA version (if one is released).
Basically its best to not accept any OTA if you can avoid it and just wait for a custom rom of the same, that way we can always use the older RUU's to s-on if we need it.
I successfully downgraded my rooted/S-OFF'd phone to an earlier ROM last night. I simply followed this method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503
I'm of the firm belief that this is the onyl way to do it if you are at S-OFF. If you have S-OFF, then flashing an older RUU will probably brick your phone.
Well yesterday I perm root and s-off my european Desire Z with World/Euro generic 1.34.405.5. Somehow everything went bad after flashing recovery mode, so I decided to unroot it and bring it back to original settings.
I found there are 2 methods, one is to run the original ruu, and the other one was to copy the exact World/Euro generic 1.34.405.5 PC10img.zip to the root of my sd card.
Then entered to bootloader, and the phone recognize the archive, I simply apply it, and now I am back again to original stock.
However now I tried again and I am happily root, and S-Off following the amazing gtrab guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835777)

That's the thing I keep saying though, flashing the original RUU worked for you because you weren't trying to downgrade the ROM, it was the same version that you already had on (just S-OFF etc). If you had a later version on your phone (e.g. via an OTA update) and were trying to flash to an earlier one, you would have bricked it trying the straight RUU method.
So what should be done is download and install an RUU - say 1.234.987, so you're on 1.234.987 - then root / S-OFF / custom ROM the phone. If anything goes wrong, reinstall the 1.234.987 RUU.
By the way - that's a fake RUU

During that process, if the stock HBOOT/recovery that is installed by that RUU decides that what you're trying to flash is "older" than your custom ROM, you're screwed though. That's why the "debranding" guide has extra steps in it, i.e. gold card and editing the misc partition.

I hate HTC.
Love the phones, love the Sense, hate the security.
Why not give us a command like the N1? WHY!?
So you should backup the system partition before S-OFF and so on? Like so a dd? (Following on from previous post)

The system partition isn't changed in S-OFF, that's the boot partition (just allows writing to the system partition).
The gold card and editing of the misc partition should work fine, as per this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503
It worked for me last night to flash to an older stock ROM (which also gave me S-ON again, removing my S-OFF).

Following that guide that I linked worked for me. Yes, I turned my SD card into a gold card and edited the misc partition. Then it is fooled into thinking you're restoring a ROM of the same version that it already is running, so it lets you do it.
Actually, I do wonder whether both steps are necessary (i.e. gold card *and* editing misc), because I thought the whole point of the gold card was that it avoided those checks, so perhaps you can do one or the other ? I am only thinking out loud here, and may well be missing something, so I don't suggest trying it other than as in that guide.

What I did was flash a stock froyo build onto the phone, this is possible as you have s-off. This can be rooted, do that then install clockwork mod. Then on the HTC Vision XDA wiki follow the steps to unroot the phone. Make sure it's for the desire z not the T-Mobile G2.
hmmm... how to flash stock froyo, and where is it m8?
thanks for reply!!
btw, when try recovery in botloader, coming back with red triangle...
No unrooting was necessary for me
I just sent in a g2 to tmobile for a warranty replacement because my screen stopped working. I was rooted and running CM6.1. I got my new phone in 24 hours and returned the old one weeks ago. It was accepted and I was only charged for the rush shipping I requested to get my replacement phone faster.
It's possible you don't need to unroot. I'm not saying it's a guarantee that they don't hassle you, but on tmobile they didn't check. Obviously it may differ given that you have a desire z and are probably with a different carrier.
i bought it for cash, so have to send it direct to htc, and they prob know what they doing, as t mob and other providers not always looking at this things and they sending 1000 back so not all get checked for this sort of things..
SORTED
repeated rooting process, phone didnt load os and stuck on htc logo, rebooted in to recovery and as cwm rom manager was back , restored image of cm7.. now will try not to brick it...

Noob Qustions about Rooting

I'm new at this so i got all these noob qustions
First my DHD have built 2.42 with Arabic Regional Support ?
so
Do i need A Gold card ?
How do i know if my phone is S-Off or Not ??
What the best way to S-Off , Radio S-Off or Eng S-Off ?
When i downgrade will i loss my stock ROM ?
or i'll lose it at S-Off or rooting ?
Can i backup my stock ROM before i start rooting?
Rooting can mean radio off or/and eng off. Refer to desire HD development for rooting. Different build requires different ways to root.
Gold card, you will need one if your downgrading a branded phone. Branded phone includes any network locked phones and also unlocked phones. Even if you buy your phone out right from somewhere, there's still a big chance that it was locked previously. You will know when it says incorrect CID when your downgrade in bootloader.
Either radio or eng off allows you to flash any custom ROM, for beginners its recommended to have radio as its easier, while enthusiast have eng off, but most of the time, both. However to flash a radio, the recommended way is to have both off
The question about backing up your current ROM. After you root, go download a recovery app namely ROM manager which lets you back up your current ROM, meaning you can restore your stock ROM anytime you want. Hope that clears up a bit.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
You only need a goldcard if your dhd is network branded.
If you havent done anything to it yet it will have S-on
All the information you need is in the first post of this thread Link
If you downgrade it you will get a clean stock rom, losing all the data you havent backed up eg contacts, apps, app data. Anything on your sd card will be unaffected and you can use mybackup (30 Day Trial/Full Version/Root Version) to backup you data (but not app data because you dont have root).
Root your phone and use the root version (also free) to restore the backup. It restores with one click but the non-root versions need you to confirm each app installation.
First i'd like to thank u for ur reply , its very helpful
So i got this facts now, Correct me if i'm wrong
1- The best is to have both Radio and Eng S-off
2- I only need Gold Card if get incorrect CID
3- Downgrade , S-off and Rooting , wont replace my Stock ROM and i can back it up
Using ROM manager
4- I can backup my Info Using mybackup
Is this information correct ?

i think downgrading does replace your stock rom, just with another stock rom. but it'll be like a brand new phone out of the box after you downgrade, everything will be wiped.
i did the downgrade using the link posted above, and i didn't realise it would do that. I thought i could downgrade, root, back up, flash rom, restore. turns out i should've backed up before downgrade.

If your radio off, no, you don't have to root again. Radio off is one of the most permanent thing you can do to your phone. However you can still radio off anytime you want.
However, if your only eng off, you might have to, depending on what version of bootloader you upgraded to.

Comments on your steps.
1. i havent actually personally tried mybackup. but you do realise restoring apps and data from your stock to a custom ROM is different than restoring it onto a stock RUU, simply because custom ROMs might run slightly different. but by all means, try it. i am sure thats not enough to break your phone. you might have to redownload some of the apps tho.
another interesting thing to add is, gmail syncs your contact your email. after a fresh flash, all you have to do is resync. it doesnt give back your msges tho.
3. format your sdcard to fat32. this is important because larger sd cards default format cant be read by bootloader.
6. rooting can be divided into 2 types, eng-off and radio-off. what your doing here is an eng off procedure. skip step 9 all together.
7. make sure you radio off since you will be updating to OTA. some OTA breaks eng off, but radio off would still remain.
10. you might have to eng off (radio off would remain) again if you do an OTA update. i suggest moving step 6 after step 11
keep us posted on your status. good luck.

1. i havent actually personally tried mybackup. but you do realise restoring apps and data from your stock to a custom ROM is different than restoring it onto a stock RUU, simply because custom ROMs might run slightly different. but by all means, try it. i am sure thats not enough to break your phone. you might have to redownload some of the apps tho.
another interesting thing to add is, gmail syncs your contact your email. after a fresh flash, all you have to do is resync. it doesnt give back your msges tho.
3. format your sdcard to fat32. this is important because larger sd cards default format cant be read by bootloader.
6. rooting can be divided into 2 types, eng-off and radio-off. what your doing here is an eng off procedure. skip step 9 all together.
7. make sure you radio off since you will be updating to OTA. some OTA breaks eng off, but radio off would still remain.
10. you might have to eng off (radio off would remain) again if you do an OTA update. i suggest moving step 6 after step 11
keep us posted on your status. good luck.

6. yup, that guide gives you eng off and proceed to step 7 to radio off. skip 9 since its the same as step 6
10. oops, sorry my bad, i meant move it after 10. but it doesnt matter really, since you have radio off (the permanent one), you can even backup stock ROM before you try to eng off. remember, radio off is also one kind of rooting and its 'permanent'

thanks a lot u have been very helpful
i'v found a much much simpler guide here
it's mostly automated and very organized
what do u think ?
Looks good. But I can't personally vouch for it since i never use his frevo toolkit before. But from what I can guess it's just automated script to run adb commands. So it should be safe. I say go ahead and enjoy rooting and flashing and tweaking and so on.

Depois de ROOT
Staff follow procedures for downgrade, I performed the root, did s-off, has to generate the GoldCard and applied correctly, now I have 2.2 Froyo routed everything right. Room Manager installed, I tried to install many more roms on the device restarts q always falls on a screen with a red exclamation warning. What remains to be done? What went wrong? I have to update the Froyo 2.2 for Ginger? if so? how? help! Thank you!

Backuping before changing system to 2.3.3

Hi there,
Im new with Wildfire, so I want to change my system to 2.3.3. But before that I would like to make a backup to not loose everything on my phone in the system 2.2.1. Can U please give me a link how can I do that?
Thx.
When your phone is rooted, install clockworkmod recovery. You can there make a nandroid backup of your current ROM (which you can later restore in case something goes wrong).
Apps can be backupped by a program called titanium backup, but again requires root (but works very well!)
Link for s-off and root in case you have not done this yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035
Thx for the link but as I see there All procedures were done under WINDOWS 7, 32-bit. And me I have win 7 64bit, should not be a problem?
No, the procedure remains the same.
I have indeed done everything on windows7 64bit and am succesfully running CM7
Is the wifi working on this 2.3.3?
you are probably talking about installing a custom ROM right? Then if wifi works depends on which custom ROM you are installing, and there is probably a thread about each custom rom in the dev section, so you can check there
Yes but Im a little bit confuse here. U gave me a link and there I read that CM7 is stable. But what should I do before install it?
I know that first I need to back up my phone and my old 2.2.1 android.
Please tell me what should I do first? step by step. I will apreciate so much. And in this CM7 is everything working fine? I mean wifi - blutooth etc?
Thx
The general steps:
S-off or root your phone (most easy is S-off with the alpharevx tool right now, root is easy then)
Flash clockworkmod recovery
Acess clockworkmod recovery by holding volume down when the phone is off and pressing the power button once
Make nandroid backup with clockworkmod recovery
Wipe cache, dalvik cache, reset to factory settings (in clockworkmod recovery)
Put the .zip file for the custom ROM on your sd card (root of the sd card)
Flash the ROM using clockworkmod recovery
Install google apps (market, youtube, ...) the same way you flashed your ROM. You can do this step afterwards though if you like
Reboot into your new ROM
The details should be in the thread I linked to. I did it myself using another thread (something called "after alpharevx...") but I have looked for it and I cannot find it back anymore sorry... But look at the one I linked to above, I'm sure it holds all the info needed
The first time took a few hours for me aswel and some reflashing because i got bootloops (no worries, you can fix that, the phone will not be bricked ! ), but afterwards it's all very easy
And I'm not sure if everything works perfect. There is a common problem with the GPS which can be solved by reflashing the radio. Wifi works, bluetooth I have no idea as I have never used it yet... I read there are problems but I don't know if there are problems in the current stable version... But trust me, the hours you put in it the first time, and the few flaws there still are are totally worth the result I cannot believe I have been on stock ROM more than a year before finally flashing custom ROMs...
So let me show U what my phone shown when I reboot it by using the volume DOWN and the power:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.01.0001
RADIO-3.35.20.10

So do I need the Revolutionary to S-OFF it? because I dont need to downgrade my version anymore right?
Right. Go to AlphaRev.nl/x/
Download there the tool to making phone s-off and root it after that.

I want also to know when do I need to format my SD Card to FAT32? I just read somewhere that I need to format it in order to make a nandroid or something like that??
And please tell me also what is the difference between sense ROM and CM7 ?? I want to be sure to do the right thing because I dont want to destroy my treasure xD.
So after S-Offing my phone I need to root it and then format my SD Card?? Please tell me the step I need to do.
Thx.
No one helps?
Just read the guide!! EVERYTHING is stated there. Your SDCard should be FAT32 already before you start it.
To get an idea of CM7, read a review somewhere of the Nexus S, and most importantly ,check the software review of it. That is, in a nutshell, what CM7 is. Also, the official site should tell you a bit about it:
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
Sense ROM is what you see at the moment on your Wildfire. All apps, like the camera, dialer, contacts, messages etc. are different in AOSP ROMs like CM7 and Sense ROMs like the stock one.
Dude but I dont need a goldcard but S-OFFing my phone. I have the HBOOT 1.01.0001 already so as I read the goldcard is for the ones who want to downgrade their HBOOT.
So tell me how do I format my sdcard and make a partition for it? I need to format before S-OFFing? So where will be my backup (nandroid?) and where do I put my new and old ROM?
Its quite a little bit confuse for me so can U put me on the right path and help me?

Just go through this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
No, you need not do anything with your SDcard, if getting S-OFF is all you need.
I'll post the outline for you:
- Download Revolutionary
- Run it, it will S-OFF your phone
- After S-OFF'ing it, it will ask you whether you want to install a Custom Recovery. Select YES.
- This will install Clockworkmod 4.0.1.4
That's it. Once Clockworkmod is installed, you can then take a nandroid backup and then flash custom ROMs. You can read this post for all details for taking Nandroid backups and flashing custom stuff:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8926457&postcount=4
Hope this clears up your doubts
Ok, but if I need to put my new ROM in order to have CM7 in my phone do I need to format my sdcard before do nandroid?
How about the partition of my sdcard? What can U suggest for me? Thx
No. Not necessary. Flashing a ROM is independent of the contents of the SDCard. You can take a Nandroid also without formatting or doing anything to your SDCard, as long as you have sufficient space. (1 Nandroid backup is ~300-350MB)
SDCard partitioning can be done after you S-OFF and root your phone. Then, install an app called ROM Manager, you will have an option within it to partition your SDCard. But, here, make sure you backup your SDCard before partitioning because partitioning will automatically format it.
Ok is ROM manager is an independent program? where can I get it? from android market? or I will get it automaticly after s-offing my device?

- Yes, it is an independent program.
- No, you will not automatically get it after S-OFF
- Yes, it's available on the market (Both free and premium)
- If you decide to install CM7 ROM after S-OFF and installing a Custom recovery, it includes it by default.
Just to get one thing out of the way - We are referring to create an EXT partition on the SDCard after S-OFF'ing/rooting to enable Apps2SD. Not a FAT32 or any other partition.
