Ok, so stock Vibrant "lag". What does this mean, precisely? I'm a rooted but otherwise stock JI6, and I don't see any lag anywhere on the phone.
If I were to be experiencing this lag, what would it look like?

Get Xscope V5 (V6 is buggy) browser for free x-labs.net and use it for a day or two. Notice how slow it loads webpages sometimes. Or try Miui Browser (not in market) GUI lags a little too
The LAG that most people are talking about is when you switch windows or open a new app. Sometimes when doing this, the phone will seem to freeze for a moment before going to the new app or page.
With Voodoo lagfix, I have not seen this happen once, where with stock it happened all the time.
If you have rooted your phone and gone down the mod rabbit hole, lagfix is well worth it.
I installed a LagFix recently like I did months ago and saw no huge change in performance (barely any change really) This "lag" problem is about as overblown as it could be. Firefox runs as smoothly as it can (it's not that smooth, beta and needs 40MB of ram on my phone. JFD firmware was did have some lag issues though that we're a problem. Some serious lag was solved by a factory reset or by reloading the OS. The lagfix isn't worth the reduced app space or lesser reliability. If you have no problems with how your phone is running, don't bother with any hacks like that.
Some people randomly got major lag when updating from JFD to JI6. A data wipe solves it.. and they couldn't be happier.
The 'lag' that you see people complaining about does not happen on all phones, all the time.
And I need to remind you to be careful about installing any lagfix. Read up on what it does and how it may affect your phone BEFORE installing it.

Agreed, you might think the phone is fast now but when you install the lag fix you'll definately notice a difference.
It amazed me when I had to go back to stock (after soft bricking my phone) and I had to install rom manager from the market while everything was stock and it was crazy how slow it was.

Am interested in seeing said video.
Here is a video I took a while back. I'd be interested in seeing the lag. I know someone with a DROID X, behavior is exactly the same when opening apps. It was the same when I installed the lag fix.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl1Q2qlRNwE
I'm on stock JI6, non-rooted.
I think what I'm experiencing is considered lag.
It doesn't happen all the time but it is annoying when it does.
Sometimes it'll take 10 seconds for an app to launch.
It's especially bad if I have more than a couple of apps going at the same time.
Some of this can be worked around, keeping as few apps going as possible. I don't use a task killer, I just back out of apps instead of switching home and keeping the app in memory.
There are certain apps where it seems to be worse in.
The Facebook app is horrible to the point where I don't use it but I'm not sure if that's the app or the phone. I can't scroll a page without the phone locking up for 3-4 seconds. Clicking on anything takes about 3-5 seconds for it to register.
I'm pretty disappointed in Samsung in general with their software. The hardware is great, the software just sucks.
One of these days I'll get around to installing another ROM.

You obviously have something else going on here.. Facebook runs with no problems on my phone. If you flash another rom everything will be wiped, just the same as what I said above. The FB app taking 10 seconds to load and locking up the phone is NOT normal behavior.

I think you're right. It doesn't make sense that facebook would be so bad.
Everything else is pretty much okay.
I think I'm going to try one of the other ROMs. Just need to find some time.
Also, I'm dreading having to go through the whole process of reinstalling and reconfiguring everything. I might have to try titanium backup so that I don't have to do that.
I've tried most of the Froyo ROMs out there (except Eugene's, but I assume it isn't much different... I could be wrong). Anyways, everyone says it's stupid fast, but I just don't see it. Even with a lag fix.
Also whenever I scroll, most notable in LauncherPro or maybe scrolling through the picture stream at the bottom of the facebook app, it seems to studder. Which bugs me to no end for some reason.
I want to make the jump to Froyo, I really do. I tried using Froyo roms as my daily driver but I couldn't do it, I always come back to JI6 for some reason.
As a side note, I'm not really sure why, but I keep going back to stock JI6 instead of Fusion for some reason, ODIN seems easier to me hahaha.
Anyhow is anyone else seeing any similar problems? Also is this due to the kernel?
Dude, there is an issue on your end. My froyo FLIES.

I've always had the lag on facebook because my 3G connection couldn't keep up. I've never had LauncherPro lag... its insanely fast IMO. Try ODIN repartition to JFD and then flash a ROM on top of it. I'm using Team Whiskey's Onyx R4 btw.

Also it's not due to internet. It is when you scroll the pictures on the selection screen (profile, friends, etc)
It's not lag, it's subtle studders. It'll start scrolling smoothly, then all the sudden it will jump back up for a second and keep scrolling down.
Fail.
I also tried some of existing JK2-based roms. I suspect even the eugene's odin rom be not a pure JK2 rom. I'd appreciate the thankful efforts by devs, though. Anyways, I also always kept coming back to JI6 for some issues. That some don't suffer from issues doesn't mean that others don't either. In my case, there were intermittent force closes randomly, FYI.

This happens on JI6 when using the Friends widget. It may simply be the way the data is loaded into the control, and drawing the pictures can perhaps be somewhat of a reason. I haven't really troubleshooted it much, so I can't say for sure.
I just stopped using the widget. When I had an HTC phone the sense widget did not have this issue, and it was the same base OS (Android 2.1). I'm having a hard time blaming this on the OS itself.
Lag... Stutters... I say semantics.
I did some searches and didn't really come up with an answer on this one so forgive me if it has been asked and answered already.
After jumping to DK28 my gallery app loads extremely slowly. It literally drops 1 picture at a time in the folders on the screen. This combined with the very slow screen response is driving me nuts. Is there anything to fix this or should I just go back to DI18?
thanks for the help.
Yes it does. Froyo DK28 has been such a disappointment.
To add to this so do the:
App list
Web browsers
song list (which is ridiculous since I only reloaded three songs back to the card)
And i'm getting like 2 hours on the battery when all i'm doing is reading a kindle book
Stock DI18 to Stock DK28
I have not had this issue with DK28. The gallery loads up as fast as DI18.
I definately agree. The gallery app is hella slow with Dk28

I agree on the gallery, it is really slow. However, I am not seeing issues with any of the other things you listed.
same here. ver slow loading...
Glad to see I'm not the only one. I tried an app suggested on this forum called "Large Image Viewer". Its a decent app but you can't delete from it or move files or anything like that as in the Gallery. But it is fast and it does a decent job for viewing.
I am still thinking about going back to DI18.
How many pictures do you all have in your gallery, because the gallery is fast for me. I have about 300 total in a few different folders, with one folder having 207, and the rest spread out in 3 or 4 other folders.
Agreed...that's why i wish some devs would stick with 2.1 roms...2.2 only adds flash....but is slow as molasses.
I thought DK28 felt really slow too. The notification bar was noticeably slower, but so were SMS threads, app drawer, and gallery.
I ended up flashing back to DI18 stock for the GPS.... Mine was toast in DK28 and I really didn't feel like screwing around getting it to work. I'd rather sit it out and get the official Froyo update when it rolls
Everything was slower in DK28. The gallery was especially bad. I am back to DI18 as well.

I hope you folks realize that the DK28 was a leak and as such is not a finished 2.2 version. So you can't compare an unfinished 2.2 to a stock 2.1. For what the DK28 leak brought even in its unfinished state, i like it a lot, especially if you're running any of the customized DK28 (like Nebula ROM !!).
So if you don't like the performance of the leaked DK28, find a custom ROM and see the difference.

I am fairly certain we all understand that. Or at least I hope so. I was using Nebula ROM 1.0.5 and it was very good for being DK28, but I still had horrible gallery lag, lousy multi-tasking, and other minor issues (none of which I attributed to Nebula). Yeah, for a leaked version it isn't bad...there have been much worse. But for me the performance hits were more than enough to justify going back to DI18 and waiting for something better. I look at it as though I would rather my car have an old engine that does everything quite well rather than a new engine that does more, but doesn't do it as well.
I agree it is super slow, my co-workers were ragging on me about the speed and how slow it was.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I went back to DI18 as well. DK28 didn't show any of the expected speed increase for 2.2. Keyboard response felt a bit better long as there wasn't a lot of programs in the background. Wifi kept flaking out with dropped connections and giving me errors when I tried to turn it on through the notification bar.
I hope they optimize it soon and release cause I miss the youtube application. That thing was sweet.

+1. The gallery is slow. It seems there are those that do not take into consideration that this is a leak. Issues will come about when you deal with something that isnt intended as a RC.
That said, I originally went back to 2.1 after some of the issues with 2.2 that I was experiencing were getting to me. However, I tried 2.2 again the other day, and after letting my phone "adjust" for a few days the gallery seems improved slightly. Not as great as 2.1, but better, for me at least.

I do agree with this.
I am trying a 2.2 rom with ext4 and my gallery is still very slow too. However it is worse than it seems. Quite often I would try to watch a standard defenition tv show, which should be no problem, and the phone chokes on it and cant do it. I downloaded an app called watchdog and everytime it happened it said the gallery was using significant processor in the background, even though i never even opened the gallery. I could confirm this by force closing the gallery and videos would play again. I have never heard anybody here say anything like this happens to them but it has happened to me for every custom 2.2 rom I have tried. It happens for video of all types and every video player. I can only hope that if an official 2.2 rom ever comes out I will be able to watch video on it.
Also while I was trying to monitor this to figure out what was happening I downloaded system panel and it show my cpu activity as always having something they refer to as Nice, (in addition to System and User activity) and when they videos won't play that Nice activity is always going high keeping the total cpu usage maxed out so that it sits at around 1000 MHz.
tl;dr My gallery is very slow as well and if you watch a lot of video on a froyo rom and it gives you no trouble please help me.
I don´t think im the only one who experienced that problem. If i install a new rom, the rom is smooth as butter. But if i use it a few days, it starts to lag. I tried the most Launcher (ADW, ADW EX, Stock, Launcher Pro, and so on) I got only google services running in Background. I´ve also experienced it without installing any new apps on my DZ. I think, if is spend so much money for a device, it has to run fast without any lag (i´m not talking about games, only the gui). I tried with and without overclocking, I tried Sense and AOSP Roms...
At the beginning everything runs like hell, and 4-5 days later its not that snappy as it should be. I always did a full wipe before installing a new rom and dont even restored my apps and settings with titanium backup.
If someone suggest my things i could try to speed my device up it would so great. And no, i dont use a tast-killer.
Thank you

Unusual... I'm running stock with LauncherPro, and the only time I get any real lag is when I'm using a 3D live wallpaper. Switching to a static image fixes that instantly. And that's with Twidroyd, Trillian and Touchdown running in the background. No task killer, they seem to do more harm than good aside from getting rid of outright hung processes.
I know exactly what you mean, man. I will try a ROM and be in love with it then like a week later it starts lagging like a sunuvabitch. Launcher pro has helped a bit.

I just bought a G2 and still really fast with Virtuous ROM. Before i use Samsung i5700 (Spica), and almost the same thing, phone became laggy every 2 weeks. What i did is the following:
1. boot into recovery mode (CWM)
2. advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
3. restart
and viola phone start to be fast again. However i read somewhere in this forum that wiping dalvik is not recommended tough.. but hey..it works for me, so why not
Thanks for your Replys
If the rom starts lagging, i wiped dalvik cache alread to see if it helps and it doesn´t
Miui is a Problem for me cause i only can use the old miui from q´n´d cause its the only miui rom i got my german language pack & keyboard working and im not a big fan of miui. I would love to run the stock g2 rom, but it also has no german language built in and the only stock g2 rom wich works w/o problems on dz is the rooted one where my german keychars on hw keyboard doens´t work...
Also i got no process running in background wich uses more than 2-3% cpu at all. my logcat also doesn´t show something that could cause the lagging. I´m not using a live wallpaper, a taskkiller or something that way.

How often are you guys rebooting your phones? I had a similar issue, started rebooting my phone every night, and wa-la, it works awesome with no lag.
I use an app called CT Scheduler. It was free on the market, but I don't think it's there anymore. I'm sure there are others, this one lets me specify a time for the phone to reboot. I chose 2am (while I'm sleeping).

Now i found my problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-950250.html
That means android take a lil while to know whether the screen is touched or swiped, this produces a noticable "lag" when swipe between homescreens. Now i have to find a way to reduce the time for android to notice that.
If someone could tell my the path or the variable where this is stored.
Thanks

Please be kind and give me a hint.
Where can I find the apk? (Path?)
I picked up the Xoom on launch day and I've been pretty content with it so far, but I won't hide the fact that the device has a lot of random laggy moments, stutters, and glitches. Opening the app drawer looked like it was at 10fps, scrolling through the home screens would lag quite often, etc.
I don't know what happened, but after I just went into the android market to update my applications I swear my Xoom got a speed increase. Going through homescreens is super snappy now, it was never this smooth before. The app drawer looks great when you open/close it now, and everything just seems so snappy now. I was getting a little annoyed by all the home screen lag and random stutters, especially with a dual core processor that just shouldn't happen. I know other users have reported lag as well, has anyone else recently noticed a speed increase?

Since its that then im willing to bet that you had an app that was (before update) making your xoom seem slower than it should. Now that the app was updated, Xoom runs smoother. Thats my guess.

One application can hijack your Xoom and hose it up. All it takes is one....
I also noticed the lag, and mine is gone now too. When I added my google account, all the apps from my phone were loaded onto my Xoom, plus it was downloading all of my picasa web pics. It was cool, but way too much going on and it installed way too many apps that were probably not cool with honeycomb.
I removed all of the apps and rebooted, and things run perfectly now.
I agree with horsexd. I haven't really felt much lag...well besides in the accelerometer which I think was intended.
I noticed a drop in lag after restarting after initial boot.

I have found that once I got more comfortable with the xoom, I was going straight to what I needed. Not clicking too many things and going back because I meant to open something else.
I have the same experience on my phone.
Hmm. I've been in the market for the past 30 minutes and nothing has changed for me.
Rebooting my XOOM.
The honeycomb boot screen seems to be a bit faster.
[edit] I call shenanigans. The app screen is still choppy when I hit the apps drawer button.
Seems the same to me. Aside from pulling up the app drawer, it's been pretty snappy since I got it.
whenever mine gets turned on, the little honeycomb looking animation is usually choppy. I think once it ran smooth, but it was uber choppy on this first turn on.
I haven`t restarted my xoom but once since I got it and its blazing fast all the time.
